The service was absolutely top-notch and the food was delicious. We kicked things off with the Matcha Dumplings and Dragon Filet Pot Stickers (so good!). We met friends for dinner here the other night, for the first time. The inside is super cute - the building itself is from 1923 (hence the name), and has a cozy old cabin feel, with a giant, wood burning fireplace at the center of the room. The tables are thoughtfully spaced around the restaurant, and while quiet when we arrived, slowly filled in (but didn't feel crowded). We decided to start with the two appetizer specials - the arinchini, and the ravioli, both of which were good (of the two, the ravioli was more of a standout dish, with more flavors in it). For a main course, I had the duck. I'm not sure I would order it again. The first piece I cut into, I had a hard time cutting, thinking there may be a bone, I realized it was just overcooked/tough. The bites that I had that were cooked properly, were very tasty. The yellow dollops of sauce on the plate were saffron flavored, and added an interesting dynamic/flavor to the duck. The winter vegetables were good, and it notes a cauliflower purée on the menu, but tasted a bit more like parsnip purée (either way, good depth of flavor, very tasty). The duck itself was also a bit on the salty side. The overall presentation of the dish was thoughtful, and looked beautiful. Others at the table ordered the scallops (great dish, served in a fun bowl), and the elk loin, which looked like it was cooked perfectly (medium rare/nice red center). We also had dirty martinis, with blue cheese olives, that were delicious. Overall, good meal, but the duck was a bit disappointing. I would for sure order something else. read more

Valentine's Night to Remember at Evoke (Evergreen, CO) Evoke 1923 absolutely nailed the Valentine's Day magic. The romantic vibe was perfection -- warm fireplace glow, live music in the background, and in one of those serendipitous moments, the musician even played our song. It felt intimate, intentional, and effortlessly special. The food? Truly exceptional. Think NYC-level, "haughty" fine dining in both presentation and quality, but with a much more relaxed, welcoming, mountain-town vibe. We had the filet with rosemary, which was beautifully cooked and deeply flavorful. The focaccia bread dipped into the spicy curry broth from the mussels was a moment. I may have actually wept. That broth deserves its own standing ovation. Dessert sealed the deal. The crème brûlée was outstanding -- perfect crack, silky custard, not overly sweet. And the cocktail? Embers and Velvet. Smoky, purple, dramatic, and delicious -- equal parts art and indulgence. Service was superb from start to finish--warm, friendly, and genuinely knowledgeable. The recommendations were spot-on, and we felt cared for without ever feeling rushed. Wow. Celebrated our 55th Wedding Anniversary at Evoke on Friday. 1st time here since it was the Bistro. Jauhna was our server. What a wonderful person. She made us feel right at home. We had some nice wine then started off with the Caprese Salad. Probably the best we have ever had. My wife got the seabass and I had the Bluefin Tuna. Both were amazing. I never mind paying for a good meal, which is why I'm especially disappointed. Caesar salad - ok. Focaccia - toasted in an attempt to mask the fact that it was stale. My sea bass - small, overcooked and oversalted. Watercress side - undercooked beets over watercress stems. My husband's salmon - decent with a meh side. Dessert - good. All that plus a nice atmosphere and good service summarizes my reason for the 2 stars. read more

We loved our first visit to Evoke 1923. We were lucky enough to sit at the bar for Happy Hour, and the bartender (I think his name was Scott...I'm terrible with names) made our experience phenomenal. His food recommendations were terrific and we could not have had a more enjoyable date night. I don't know where to begin. Our staff is very professional and over-the-top friendly. They had a couple younger people working that really cared and went out of their way to make sure you were happy. The food was out of this world amazing! The prices were reasonable, and I can't rent and rave enough about how good the food was. We had a wonderful experience at Evoke this week. Every bite was delicious and the staff was helpful, friendly, and welcoming. The duck was full of flavor and crispy in all the right spots (special thank you to the waiter for recommending the temperature for the duck breast; it was perfect). We also shared the spicy shrimp and it was heaven. The kimchi was so crunchy and bright. I could have eaten just a bowl of the shrimp for my meal. The foaccia was on point. And the chocolate mousse was everything you want chocolate mousse to be. Also devoured at our table: the Oaxacan lamb shank, the elk, the antelope, the pork chop, the creme brulee, and the chocolate souffle. * The menu is seasonal. Very creative menu with a seasonal rotation. They had a menu with some Japanese influence last time I was there. Great service as well.

We had a party of six family members for Sunday night dinner and every single item each of us ordered was delicious. The staff was attentive and informative - we hadn't had elk or antelope before, and our waiter gave us recommendations about the best preparation of each, which turned out to be exactly right. After the meal, the staff even picked up and moved a table out of the way just so our family could get a photo in front of the fireplace. It was a memory-making meal. read more

Had an AMAZING date night here with my husband! Had multiple appetizers (all fantastic) but the filet tartar was unreal. My husband got one of the specials, rib eye, which he said was one of the best he's had and he's a steak guy from a ranching family. The drinks were amazing, they even had N/A cocktails which is so great as my husband doesn't drink. Service was great, all the staff were friendly. We saw the chef taking time to come out and personally serve and talk to guests. Even ended with dessert both the tiramisu and blood orange tart were such a great end to a fabulous meal. While more expensive than the local pub, the prices were fair for the quality of food, i would say on par or even less than you would find at a similar caliber restaurant in Denver. Evergreen is such a great area and the restaurant itself is so cool and rustic, it's over 100 years old and the architecture and feel of it captures its traditional roots with only light touches of modern. We had an amazing dinner at Evoke 1923. The restaurant looks great inside, it is clean and the new floors look great. They also updated the stairs and railing coming into the restaurant which looks really nice. The food and drinks were excellent, very unique and delicious flavors. The service was 5 stars - our server Cat was really personable and fun. Chef Rand also stopped by a few times to check on the food and chat with us. Went to Evoke to celebrate my birthday on Nov 29. To start, our first server excused herself and handed us off to another server before we could order. The "special" appetizer, of which we ordered 2, was a plate of 5 burned "filet" dumplings that were barely warm and somewhat tasteless. Of the 5 different entrees we ordered, two, the pork chop and the tuna were under cooked and barely warm. They were out of desert we wanted so we settled on a creme brulee and coffee. The creme brulee had obviously been in the refrigerator for awhile. The coffee was cold. It was like the chef was absent versus our prior positive experience at Evoke. EVOKE turned out to be a good choice for my wife's birthday celebration. Service and food were above average. Prices are elevated but worth it.....I would avoid baked oyster appetizer, so small, hard to find. LOL Baked shrimp appetizer very good. Sea bass and filet mignon were both excellent. Nothing special for your birthday except 2 teeny weeny truffle candies. My recommendation to management would be, at least, a free desert. We will return! read more

There were just a few misses that made it so I couldn't give 5's across the board. Evoke 1923 is located on the outskirts of beautiful downtown Evergreen in a very cozy cabin. On the evening we were there they had a fire crackling away in the oversized fireplace which was amazing...the smell, the sound, the visual...all fantastic. As soon as we sat down, our server Paige, brought over a table hook for my wife's purse which is a great touch. Drink menu was solid, I had a tasty draft beer and my wife have a dirty Martini with bleu cheese olives. There were four of us and we split two appetizers. We had the Arancini Special and Ragu Ravioli, both were good but we put the Ragu Ravioli as the winner. For entree's we had the Elk Loin which was done to perfection and had amazing flavor. Raw and Dynamite Oysters which were very good. Here is where we feel they missed the mark. I had the Hokkaido Seared Sea Scallops & Mushroom Ravioli, the ravioli were excellent, the miss for me were the scallops. There were 5, the dish probably only needs 4 but hey, who minds an extra scallop!? My issue was they were over cooked, they weren't seared, they were cooked for so long they were crusty, crunched when I ate them. The last dish was my wife's and she had the Herb Roasted Duck Breast & Leg Confit. She absolutely loves duck and gets it whenever it is on the menu and she found it to be over cooked as well. There were parts she could hardly cut through with her knife but there were other parts that were cooked perfectly. It looked to me that the leg and thigh were the over cooked parts and the breast was a little crusty but once you got through the skin it was excellent. We did not have room for dessert but the menu looked wonderful with several options. Bottom line, Paige was amazing and we will be back to try a few more items on the menu...and get dessert!. For me it will be the Preserved A L'orange Croute Bison Short Ribs for sure...if its still on the menu. read more

From the beginning, things seemed off when we walked in on a Friday evening and only a quarter of the tables had patrons. Ordered Shrimp Appetizer along with other entrees and proceeded to wait for an hour. Finally flagged down waiter and asked where app might be. He went into kitchen and immediately came right out with shrimp that were not only overcooked, but at that point cold having apparently sat for a while. They were sent back. As for entrees later, Chinese Pork Chop came out dry and inedible. Vegetables on the other entrée were cooked to a char and also inedible. We have had three wonderful experiences and will go back for more. The portions are very generous, so we always get to take some home. There was even a man playing wonderful songs on the piano (Friday night). The place is very relaxing, with real fireplace and candles, very attentive service, beautiful presentation of every dish, and wonderful flavors. We have been going to this restaurant site for decades when it was The Bristro at Marshdale. We had many good meals there but have gone less in the past few years. This new version of this restaurant site is a complete remake and huge improvement! The menu is very inventive and varied. It brings new fine dining to Evergreen. Here's a breakdown of some of the dishes we like: Beef & Aged Gorgonzola Cantonese Style Sui Mai: A surprising and delightful fusion of East and West, these delicate dumplings were packed with savory beef and the deep, tangy bite of aged Gorgonzola. The wrapper had the perfect balance of tenderness and bite, while the rich umami filling was beautifully complemented by the light soy-based sauce. A sophisticated and unique take on a classic. Caesar Salad: Crisp, fresh romaine and dressing with just the right amount of garlic and anchovy. The Parmesan shavings add a salty contrast, croutons provided crunch, and whole white anchovies gave it extra flavor. Wild Mushroom Pan-Seared Chicken Lasagna: The lasagna was layered with pan-seared chicken and wild mushrooms in a rich, creamy sauce. The pasta was cooked perfectly, absorbing all the flavors and still al dente. Herb-Roasted Duck Confit: The duck breast was seared, giving it a crispy, golden skin while juicy inside. The leg confit fell off the bone, rich and deeply flavorful. Paired with a subtle yet complementary sauce, this dish showcased the chef's ability to balance bold, gamey flavors with a refined, aromatic herb finish. Five-Spice Grilled Pork Chop: This was referred to as their signature dish. It was juicy, tender, with bold, complex flavors and subtle smokiness from the five-spice rub. Cooked just right--moist and slightly pink in the center (I ordered it medium rare). Bread: They charge for the bread, a large loaf, freshly toasted with side of marinara sauce for dipping. Well worth the extra charge. Beverages: The wine list is excellent and we enjoyed the Stag's Leap Merlot, which went perfectly with the meat dishes that we ordered. There are plenty of choices and prices are typical of a good restaurant. I love dark beers in the winter and enjoyed a very rich and flavorful Boulevard Whiskey Barrel Stout. Probably the best stout I have ever had. There were also a nice selection of other ales, lagers, and IPAs. Summary Evoke 1923 is our new "special occasions" restaurant. It delivers an experience that is both inventive and deeply satisfying. The attention to detail in every dish, from texture to seasoning, was evident throughout the meal. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and the ambiance was warm and inviting--a perfect spot for a special evening out in Evergreen. It is worth the drive from the Denver area to get a true mountain experience of fine dining. While this location has been many failed attempts at being a high end restaurant before, this time is now exudes it! While the building is what it is, don't let that fool you! The rustic look mask what I believe to be a genius that resides in the kitchen! The flavors were complex, and layered one on top of another! My mouth was awestruck by the very sublime complexity!
