Stesk, seafood and sandwhiches. Seperate bar and Dining areas both with hightops, low tops and booth seating. There is an outdoor patio area too. Interesting method of HOT ROCK COOKING™ where they bring your steak (or seafood) on a 755-degree volcanic sizzling rock and you cook it to your desired temperture. Entres come with side salad or soup and a vegatable or starch side. We had wanted to try Black Rock for sometime and we finally did for my birthday. I have to say we were not disappointed. It was a very fun experience for my entire family. The place was not cheap, but you get what you pay for here. The steak and sides were very good. The baked potato was huge. In fact, we ended up taking it home and I ate it the next day. My son enjoyed his shrimp although they cooked very fast. Overall, we had a great experience with this restaurant. We will definitely be back. read more

I felt like our server tried to rush us thru our meal, dropping the check when I have half a steak & scallops yet to eat with a full glass of wine. Great food, atmosphere, and service. The only reason why I didn't take a picture of my ribeye and shrimp is because that hot rock was cooking my steak too fast. There was so much smoke in my face that I wasn't expecting. Then they give you these tiny plates that you can hardly do anything with. By the time I got into the flow and figured out what I needed to do, my steak was well done! Besides all of my challenges on my first visit, I would definitely return. We were looking more for a bbq/smokehouse place, but Yelp led us here: it's more of a steakhouse. I read one reviewer say that they include an 18% gratuity. I hope not because I left a 20% tip. Yeesh. Nothing we can do now. I usually am pretty good about spotting that, so maybe he's wrong. Baby Back Ribs: A They were very good and fall off the bone. Cooked extremely well. BBQ Sauce was good, but somewhat generic. Bacon Cheddar Burger: A Cook very well and very Angusy: nice beefy flavor. Despite asking for medium rare and getting medium, we enjoyed it immensely. Loaded potato: B- Needed more topping for the potato size they gave us. Came here while in town doing a college basketball game. This had been on my list for awhile and we finally were able to get here. Usually this place is a madhouse and very busy - but we came around 3:45 due to some middle time between lunch and dinner and being too hungry to wait for a tradition dinner time. We were sat immediately. I understand the concept of the restaurant, order a steak and sides and the steak comes raw on a 700° slab rock that cooks it. You control the amount it's cooked etc. We ordered the appetizers of the pretzels with cheese and sour cream dips, as well as the soup 3 wayz. Problem with the soup - they were out of two of the options so we got 2 of the French onion and 1 chili. Issue with the appetizers? They weren't hot. The soups don't come on the hot rock thing and they were lukewarm at best. The pretzel dips were also cool and they were on the hot rock. The pretzels themselves were good - I liked the amount they provided but the dips were huge and could use a closer correlation to the amount of dip. For my meal I went with the 6'er and coconut shrimp. The steak was fine - I really liked the horseradish dipping sauces. Went with the beans and mashed as well. It reminded me of a an Applebees or traditional American sit down with a bar and the usual sounds and sights you'd see with any other atmosphere at those places. Waitress was aloof though - drinks begged to be refilled and weren't. We skipped on dessert. I left wishing I just went with a bigger cut of steak and not played with coconut shrimps. So where do I start...we were on a anniversary date and the waitress came to the table a few times and called my fiance BAE!!! The first few times I ignored it until my fiance said something to me .. after I asked her not to say that anymore, she got an attitude. The steak that I ordered was supposed to be a medium. Celebrated a belated Valentine's Day with lunch at Black Rock. We have been there several times and always enjoy the novelty of cooking our own steak on the 750 degree rock! Today it was very quiet and not busy at all! We alway get the same meal... black rock special with the 8oz filet and bubbling shrimp! Excellent size filet and the shrimp are soo good! They remind me of Nee Orleans bbq shrimp (Worcester sauce based). Get a side of garlic toast to dip!! Their casino butter is amazing with the steak and huge loaded baked potato! Food was 5/5!! Ambiance is so-so.... We were Sat in the bar area and it's just nothing special. There were empty dirty dishes on a cart near us so didn't love looking at that . They were out of ribs so we proceeded with our entree order. We decided on steaks - I elected shrimp with mine. The waitress took our orders and we remembered that we did not inform her how we wanted our steaks cooked. She smiled and told us that we cooked our own steaks at our table via a black top. So I have been to 2 locations so far. When I went to the one in Tampa, they did not put the steak on the stone and I could control how I wanted my steak cook. At this location they brought the steak out on the stone already. I like a medium rare steak and by the time I tried to save it, the steak was way past medium. Honestly this is a gimmick that I see other places do. It's cool to do it once, after that either go to a steak house or make one yourself. This place was clean, no reservation needed at 6pm on a Wednesday before a holiday . Our server was nice. 2 dinners, 3 cocktails, 1 Pepsi . Tip included 20% (don't be cheap people ), we were over $152 out the door. I would've included a picture, but my meal honestly did not look that great . I ended up having to get more food later elsewhere because this just didn't cut it. Fantastic experience to be able to get a big chunk of Sirloin that you cook yourself on a 755 Deg F square Black Lava Rock. They have the very best sweet potato fries, steak cut and several dipping sauces to choose from. I suggest placing half your special butter on the rock under the Steak before cooking, as it prevents the steak from sticking to the rock. I'm not much of a griller, but a Black Rock, you can choose any Steak Cut and it will have the texture of filet minion. So I suggest the Sirloin of the 3 sizes of 6oz., 9oz, or 12oz, with the 12oz being the very best value by far. We drive an hour to take guests there. read more

Positive aspects first: Always happy to see Guinness on tap, and the large option provided just over an imperial pint's worth of the black stuff. One of the bartenders knew how to properly serve Guinness as well. The meat I ordered was of very good quality. This was my first time at one of these cook-your-own-meal-on-a-hot-stone places, and the staff did a reasonably good job of providing direction. Interesting experience, cooking that way. Casino butter is delicious. There were also some less than stellar elements to my visit: The primary bartender serving me apparently didn't know how to serve Guinness; that person had to ask for help. Said bartender was also not very cordial, and seemed to resent serving guests they didn't know. I never got offered a second pint, for instance. No clam chowder was available. It felt as though I had twelve plates in front of me, which did not make for a convenient space to cook and eat my dinner. My entree was a combination of sirloin and andouille sausage. Both were delicious, but the bad thing about having such an overwhelming flavor in the sausage meant that I couldn't taste much else after eating it. No bread before or accompanying the meal. The space felt very boring and flat, almost industrial. It lacked a welcoming or interesting vibe. === In conclusion, the concept of the restaurant isn't bad, but the service was iffy and the finer points of the meal (and the experience) just didn't seem very well thought out or polished. I absolutely LOVE this restaurant! I have been going here since they first opened their location in Hagerstown MD. I always ordered the ahi tuna and I cooked it myself on the hot rock. The most recent time I went, I ordered a sirloin... which I also cooked myself. It was the best sirloin I have ever had! Especially when cooked with the casino (garlic) butter. It is the BEST!! As far as appetizers go, you have to try the crispy brussels sprouts and the pretzel bites with cheese. If you like martinis- they have an AMAZING drink called Magic Potion. Service was the high point of the evening. The bartenders were great while we waited to be seated. The server for our table was great. She was very informative and took care of problems the best she could. The atmosphere was not relaxed or fun due to the nature of the dishes going back and forth to the kitchen they use carts and consistently run into things, including people who are eating. The food was sub-par. If your business model is a rocket hot stone to cook a raw steak on your steak, it had better be the star of the show. Unfortunately, it was not. My first steak required a chainsaw to cut due to the amazing amount of grissel in it. Our server quickly replaced it with a new one when I pointed it out. The second one, while better, was still full of grissel and very tough chewy bits. It's was not a quality steak. The ribs must have come from a pig with an eating disorder as they had no meat on them. The salad looked like it had been plated on Tuesday. Unfortunately, we were eating dinner on a Saturday. Overall I would not recommend. It is a shame because Hagerstown could really use a decent restaurant. read more
