I've been going to this restaurant for a few years now which has the absolute best French onion soup and can not be beat. However, upon going there for lunch today I ordered the blackened swordfish. Let me get this off my chest.....too many bad review of this place and if I believed them, then I'm the fool. We booked a resy via opentable and were welcomed with open arms. Our hostess told us it would take a few minutes and soon we would be sitting. Very pleasant, friendly and explained whatever was needed. While the place gets busy and has an extensive menu.....you start wondering about the quality. Shoot it's very rare to get a ribeye or porterhouse for $40. We ordered steaks, Seabass and the Swordfish ( DO NOT GET THIS)......this was the only sour note of the night.!Overall will visit again! read more

First time posting a review but spent $100 takeout on 2 steaks and a fish. Advertised as 16oz NY strip steaks. One was 14oz (solid) and the other was 9oz end cut and overcooked. My own fault for not asking over the phone if there were options other then what was listed online, but when I arrived and noticed the current menu I was told the online menu wasn't updated due to the owner being out of town. Unfortunately Black Rock is one of those restaurants where you have a bad meal, wait a year or two and then go back hoping it will be better. Well, this was not the case when we went on 3/1/25. I ordered the house salad with bleu cheese dressing. The dressing was watery and had no flavor except for a very few miniscule pieces of actual bleu cheese. I couldn't even finish it because the dressing was so bad. Then they brought the popovers, which were greasy and served with some kind of sweetened whipped butter, could not identify what the sweet flavor was supposed to be, my husband didn't eat his, he said it was like a greasy donut. I ate most of mine only because I was so hungry! I ordered fried scallops, which were pretty good except I don't think they had been freshly hand-breaded. I also didn't get enough tartar sauce. I got a baked potato which was the most pathetic little potato I've ever seen, I didn't even try to eat it. My husband ordered the blackened salmon with rice pilaf, the waitress told him that green beans were the veggie of the day. His salmon was actually raw in the thickest part and the rest was mushy. He said the rice pilaf tasted like Spanish rice and he even double checked with the waitress that it was supposed to be rice pilaf. The veggie of the day actually turned out to be broccoli that was brought out separately and was what I can only describe as broccoli trees. Not florets, just 2 large pieces of broccoli with the stems attached. He didn't eat any of the broccoli, and just a very little bit of salmon and rice as it was pretty much inedible. So out of 2 complete meals, the only thing was was edible were my scallops that I don't think were fresh. The waitress took $5 off my husband's meal. This time we really won't go back. read more

My strip steak arrived cooked past the ordered medium rare and it was lukewarm at best. The side order of grilled shrimp was tasty but had already cooled off. The potato was piping hot but not done throughout. Unsure but I'd guess it had been microwaved versus oven baked. The fat in the center wasn't even rendered, it was still white. Okay, no big deal, mistakes happen. Wasn't gonna complain, it's Father's Day. Bill came out to $148.57. Left a tip of $30 CASH, because I don't believe in taxing tips. Service workers are entitled to full tips. Just checked my balance with my bank, and they CHARGED ME $30 EXTRA ON MY CARD ON TOP OF THE CASH TIP. That's theft. Never going there again. Wow. This is an update for Black Rock Steakhouse. We had lunch this time. 100% different experience than our last time. Gone were the tables squished together to be replaced by booths. A Much quieter and intimate experience and added to the great food and good lunchtime prices it was no surprise why we had a hard time finding a parking space. Delicious and a more timely service so I'm sure lunching employees of the local businesses would be able to have lunch and get back to work on time. We'll add this restaurant to our new favorite places. Good job to all the staff and management on a huge improvement. read more

What an EXCELLENT lunch today! Our server was Sam, she was attentive, knowledgeable about the menu and just sweet which added to our amazing experience! Lunch specials were inexpensive, and delicious! - $10.00 for maple glazed salmon and 2 sides and (salmon was huge and fresh!), my husband had the broiled trio of haddock/scallops/shrimp with 2 sides ($13.00! what?), which was in a light butter sauce with so much flavor going on. Yesterday my husband, grandson, and I had lunch at Black Rock. I ordered the Goat Cheese/Arugula Salad. When I was almost done with my salad, I was chewing what I thought was an arugula stem, but it was especially "tough" so I pulled it from my mouth. It looked like one of those long fish bones, and I thought, "Why would there be a fish bone in my salad?" I then realized it was a piece of plastic. I placed it next to my dish until our server returned. I handed it to her and said, "I found this in my salad." She looked at it, then showed it to another server. The second server glanced at my plate and said, "Oh, you had arugula." I said, "Yeah...but that's plastic." She said, "Well, arugula is packaged in plastic." End of story. When our server eventually returned with our bill, she said, "Sorry for the plastic in your salad." I didn't pursue it, but after talking with my daughter, who is in the hospitality industry, she told me this is certainly not acceptable! Another thing...we ordered from the kids' menu for our almost-two-year-old grandson. $10 for a kids' burger and fries. Most kids' meals include a drink. Nope...not here. Another $2.49 for a "kids' milk." I've been to Black Rock several times and have always liked it, but these experiences yesterday have turned me off to it. read more

We heard a lot about this steakhouse over the years and finally decided to try it. I will only say I will talk about our experience because we've heard so many good things about it. We went over last Friday night and I can tell you that parking was not an issue, the atmosphere was fine, and the waitress was wonderful as well. Our problem came with actually the food. When you order a baked potato and the cheese is like a crust and the butter doesn't melt that's an issue. A calamari that we ordered was not only overcooked, but that was cold. I like my steak medium, but it was closer to raw as was my wife's and she likes hers closer to well. Again this was just our experience but it's one that when you spend over $200 for dinner you expect a little more in return. I've been to steakhouses all over the country to include Lowery, Webber, Ditkas, Schulas, and Ruth Chris, all roughly about the same price, but the quality was nowhere near what I expected or heard about at this restaurant. Of course they will make the slides new; but your main is there and hot--the time it takes to remake the sides- your main is consumed and this late remade sides decrease the overall selection. I have been here several time either lunch or supper. Quality of the sides "hot" Sides never change. 3pm the baked potato was awful, and it seemed as if it was reheated from the previous night. 3/4" of rock hard potato. The lobster is very good. Stay away from the crab legs unless you like salt soaked tough flavorless crab legs. Chicken Corden Bleu is dry and no cheese inside. The waitresses are an amazing group of people!!! read more

The garlic mashed potatoes had little garlic in them and were just not tasty.. The asparagus was very tough(either undercooked or old). The chicken alfredo? Where is the chicken? Awesome spot I highly recommend if you're in the area. This is a diamond in the rough. The food was not expensive at all but was plentiful and very very tasty. The serviced was great, very friendly and knowledgeable. I had the bourbon burger and it was so good I forgot to take a picture. Juicy and cooked to perfection. Steak was delicious and soft. You cook your own steak on the hot rock. It's a fun experience. We waited around an hour and a half to get in. Not sure it was worth the wait. The waitress was non existent once she took our order. There was a mandatory 20% tip so I guess it didn't matter if the service was good or not. It was alright. I liked the rock. My wife didn't cause you have to wait for it to cook. Also by the time you're halfway done the rock is cool so you have to be ok with medium steak. read more

Ok, I waited several days to post this to see if managment will respond to my call to them, they chose not to so heres me review: My son and I went for the first time last week and ordered the Hanger steak and I had the maple salmon, with an appetizer of stuffed mushroom caps. The caps were ok for that sort of thing, the salads were just ok, dressing was forgotten for my son, mine was just ok. His hanger steak arrived along with my salmon, he took one bite and looked and me and said, Dad, this doesnt take good. So I cut a small piece, and had to spit it out! The meat was actually ROTTEN! it smelled bad and tasted like I imagin road kill would taste! Ok, so I called over the waitress, who BTW, was very nice and no problems with staff! Anyway, we told her the problem, she appoligized and agreed it wasnt good, the kicker was that she said other customers have been complaining about the meat being bad as well and the cook just decided to throw the meat out! No manager came to apologize , I had to call the next day and she said never heard of my complain nor the other guests, maybe she said, the waitress was trying to make me feel better!! No nice crust, no grill marks so I guess it's not cooked in a broiler without enough heat! My filet and lazy man lobster wasn't very good either. Filet was tough and ordered medium and was mostly well done with a slight pink in the middle. I mean how do you make a filet tough!!!The lobster was knuckles and legs only. which might be sweet but it wasn't - overcooked as well. Salad was fine, husband liked the creamed corn but I never got my mashed potatoes-I was so over the meal... Great experience and atmosphere! Only problem with our visit - the rock oven was broken so our steaks cooked a bit slower than normal. Otherwise the service was great, drinks yummy, salad bar was well stocked, and the steaks delicious! We got 4 different variations of potatoes for our sides and all were enjoyed. Lastly, we tried their two different options for sauces (peppercorn and béarnaise); both were almost licked clean by the time we left. We went to celebrate a birthday and were treated to a free birthday cake!
