For years I always wanted to visit Black Tap & I finally visited the one located in SoHo on January 23rd. Unfortunately, my experience was not a good one. First, this place is located in what looks like a basement. You have to go downstairs to enter the place. As for the food & drinks, I ordered the All American Burger which came with arrived & for the drinks, I ordered a Jolly Rancher drink which was recommended by the waiter, Vaughn. I wish I never asked for a recommendation because the Jolly Rancher drink was awful. So awful that it took me nearly an hour to finish it. I winded up ordering a coke which was the only good drink. The All American Burger was the most horrible burger I ever had from any place. The fact that Black Tap makes awful burgers was definitely a surprise because that's one of the main things they're known for aside from their milkshakes. The burger tasted like it was in the freezer for months. The fries were the only good thing I ate from there. While I don't like to leave bad reviews without giving a place a second chance, I felt like leaving one for this place was necessary & I'll elaborate why. The day that I came here, my waiter was Vaughn. Before I came in, there was only one other customer in there. After me, I realized that more customers started to come in. I was there to just order some food & drinks. As if the awful burger & drink wasn't bad enough, the waiter's service is what really made it such a disappointing experience for me. The waiter continuously kept coming to my table to talk to me. Compliments given to me are appreciated, but honestly never ever needed or wanted. The waiter complimented my looks which was ok. However, it was further conversations & inappropriate things he said which made me beyond uncomfortable to the point where I wasn't even able to enjoy my food or drink. There was plenty of other customers who came in after me & they were barely attended to while I was continuously bothered. Coming to my table to make sure everything is good is cool. However, coming around my table to make unnecessary conversations is super unprofessional lol. Who does s h * t like that? Those who know me on a personal level KNOWS what I'm capable of doing in order to stand up & defend myself but because he was the only waiter there, I just didn't say anything because I don't need my drinks or food to be spit in. There were a few things said that was absolutely unprofessional & unacceptable. The constant conversation was annoying enough, but giving me a piece of paper to write my name & number crossed the line. There were other things said that others would agree is highly unacceptable & unprofessional. I called to make a complaint & spoke with Ciara. She informed me she was going to relay this message to Matthew who's the manager of the place. I was told that he would call me, but he never did. So here is this very well deserved & honest feedback. Oh & if proof is ever needed, my friend who I was on the phone with could definitely confirm to most of what was said to me. I highly recommend for the owner to review the cameras & hopefully it's audio enabled so they can hear the entire conversation of my uncomfortable visit. That's the best evidence in terms of confirming my review. I really hope the owner & manager will reconsider the staff they currently have working here. Perhaps, retraining them on how to attend to a customer professionally & respectfully would be ideal. Otherwise, I highly recommend you guys to fire the current ones & hire some new staff.

Our server was excellent, with a nice approachable attitude, and our food arrived relatively quickly. The restaurant was clean and spacious, underground at their original Soho location. My boyfriend got the Tennessee burger, which he liked, and my wagyu steakhouse burger was alright, but I kind of wished in retrospect that I'd ordered a BBQ burger. That's just a personal preference though, there was nothing wrong with it. They're priced pretty typically for a Manhattan sit-down burger joint (ie. average of $23/burger).

We love blacktap. The shakes are a bit overrated for the price but I love their burgers and fries.

Black Tap - SoHo is a must visit. Burgers? Legendary. The 1/2-lb Champ wagyu was flavorful perfection, fries were spot-on, and every dish at our table was a hit. Perhaps shining brightest was the Brooklyn Blackout Crazy Shake... a towering chocolate beast that took three of us to finish. (So, that's less guilt... right?) Matt (the owner) and his team treated us like family. Thanks again, Matt. There was just one problem: we ate it all so fast that we couldn't take a decent pic. So, just look at all the posted photos after you read this!

Great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food!! Also loved the music playing. If I could give more than 5 Stars I would!! Got the Pesto chicken sandwich and my daughter got the Crispy chicken sandwich. We split them and they were both amazing. The fries were perfect. Not soggy. Also got 2 crazy shakes. The cookies n cream one and strawberry shortcake. So damn good!! Would totally come back and recommend to anyone visiting or lives here.

This restaurant was recommended by friends of ours that are locals. The shakes didn't disappoint! They food was equally delicious and we will return next visit to NYC

We were lucky to get in for dinner at 7pm on Friday after being at Coney Island all day. The crazyshakes are still crazy (see photo). The coffee shake was great as well. Not really known for the food but the Mozzarella with Chipotle sauce was very good. The chicken sandwich with coleslaw in it was great as well. The burger chopped salad was pretty good as well. Food was a little expensive but we were really there for the shakes not the food.

I normally pop in to Black tap after work or when Im in the area on the weekends. Its a cool spot to have a milk shake, burger or wings. They have two levels, upstairs and downstair. The downstairs has more room and gives a cheerful vibe. On this day I stopped by after an appt and got the chicken sandwich and an arnold palmer. The chicken sandwich was crispy and not oily and the korean bbq sauce on the side was a great additional. The portion was huge, which i love because i love leftovers and everything was fresh.

I've been here a few times before, mostly to celebrate occasions, holidays, or if we need a later dinner option. Although there is a bit of a longer wait at times, the service has improved since before the pandemic. The restaurant itself is well decorated. The burgers, the main focus of the restaurant are all pretty good. They live up to the hype. The shakes are also very good and arguably their most popular items. Without the long wait times, everything would be perfect, but it makes sense that popular restaurants have longer waits.

Do they really still require a vaccine card to eat there?

When I went in July they did not ask for me for my vaccination card. So I would say no

Do I need a reservation with covid and everything my birthday is on the 23rd and I really just want to get some luck but I am confused?

I don't think this place ever takes reservations, but if you're at all concerned about COVID this isn't the place for you. I live in the 'hood & pass it frequently & there are always multiple staffers--including cooks--not wearing masks. Also,…

Do they offer a kids menu?

    no no kids menu

Do I have to make a reservation if I would like to have a birthday lunch on a Saturday? More than 5 people.

I am fairly certain they do not take reservations. We tried to make one for dinner and they didn't take it. If there is a wait, they take your name when you show up and text you when the table is ready.

Do they have a children's menu?

I do not remember them having one. My kids all ordered a burger and, of course, some of their awesome sundaes.

I'm planning to go with a group of friends and I just want to know beforehand will we be able to pay separately?

i think you should pay for your friends...

    Can you make a reservation?

I'm not sure, but when we showed up around lunch time we were seated almost immediately.

    How's the parking looking?

Hmm not bad. Typical restrictions..parking after 7p for most of the block

I love to black tap craft burgers & beer?

I don´t know, do you? Not all heroes wear capes you know.

How long would the wait be on a Saturday mid afternoon, around 4? Is one location less crowded than the other? Tried 3 times to eat here, no luck yet. Fingers crossed ?? Thank you

I'm guessing about an hour wait

Typically on a Friday night how crowded is black tap? And how long is a wait like around 7:30/8

Same thing for Friday, all the way around the corner, long wait!

Can you get the crazy shakes to go?

Yes, but it won't nearly be the same effect. You might want to go on a day where you have more time so you can stay, snap pics, and enjoy.

However, recently I came in and this isn't normal service and I hope it changes. Maybe I met a fluke new bartender that knows nothing about pouring a proper pint. But I bought a specialty can for myself and a pint for my boyfriend. Initially, I asked if they had any red ales or ambers, brown ales and he said we have a lot of nice stouts and porters. My boyfriend is definitely not into dark beers (i wish) but any moron would know an Amber or red ale anything what I mentioned isn't pitch black and sweet as syrup. So I looked at beers on tap for him. He poured me a Czech beer and the foam head was 4 inches at least thick. I was told it's an "experience". And when my boyfriend was also considerably upset he said "it's an experience". I paid $9-11 for an experience of missing half his drink in a smaller sized pour of a normal 14-16 oz mug. He gave back the drink because he was so unhappy with it and he did nothing to remedy the situation. I get you let drinks settle but that's not how your pour a pint at least not in the USA. He asked if it could be filled the remained and he said absolutely not. lol. Ridiculous. When I was finally able to get her attention again, I went with the Carlifree, which is hibiscus tea, mint, yuzu juice, and club soda. I don't think I ever had anything yuzu-based before in my life, but it works here. The hibiscus visually dominates in a pretty shade of red, while the mint is the alternative refresher. I probably drank this a little too quickly, but I enjoyed what I had. Restroom in the very back is similar to being on an airplane. Even I felt it was a tight fit, and I'm small. Service could have been a little more attentive, especially for one person behind the bar, but she was friendly when you had her attention.
