As you walk in you note the feel of it being a converted diner made to look like a country place. You grab your own menu, seat yourself, and walk up to the bar/register when ready to order. If the first time, you need a minute to get your bearings. Food ordered (3% fee is not using the cash "discount" FYI, pretty common around here and absurd given these OBX prices). Drinks are self serve. Some coke products and excellent tea. This was the end of breakfast around 10:30/11, so it was empty. Service was pretty quick. (they bring it to the table). I thought the breakfast pricing was fair. Shrimp and grits for $12, etc. Especially for the portion sizes. Two things I didn't care for. -The ceilling tiles were crazy dirty and stained and the flor light bulbs were uncovered. -The shrimp and grits needs a re-do. It's huge, with a base of grits, ladels of bacon gravy, and about 5 shrimp and cheddar cheese. It's more like a shrimp, grits, gravy, cheese casserole. I would have much rather had a base of grits, the gravy scooped in the middle with shrimp stuck in it, and topped with cheese. Even with all that you'd think there would be flavor. It was kind of bland minus the occasionally greasy/burnt bacon piece. Also, the shrimp were flavorful but over-cooked and tail on, which is traditional--but in the casserole were a pain in the butt to get the tail off/cut. I know they can do good flavors and plates. My spouse's chicken biscut...omg the hand-breaded chicken was fantastic! My son's baked apples were to die for. You Philly visitors will be happy to see scrapples on the menu - yuck. All in, I would repeat and stick to chicken and the chicken coop.

After reading the…read morereviews and looking over the craft bagel menu, I knew we had to make a brunch stop to see how the locals live! Barrier Island Bagels offers a variety of bagel sandwich options, build your own bagels with different spreads, and there are cocktails available, too! Fancy! On our visit we were seated pretty fast even though the place was full. Our server was friendly and attentive. My husband and I really enjoyed the two toasted bagel sandwiches we ordered and shared. One was sweet and the other savory. There were several customers picking up orders and the counter stayed busy with walk-ins, too. This is definitely a popular, fun, and cozy option for locals and tourists alike.

This year we had: The Jersey: Lox (can come with a surcharge) on a rosemary bagel with dill and onion cream cheese. Hangover: bacon, egg, and cheese on an egg bagel with cheddar. To go bag: red velvet, Asiago jalapeño, egg, cinnamon burst, and French toast. All red velvet was the top pick but all were good. Staff is friendly. The space isn't large but has several 4/5 seater tables. Pro Tip: There is parking around back.

You grab one tray per group, grab beverages and order your actual entrée at the end of counter. You can hit a QR Code while in-line to view menu or look at giant board along the counter. So many choices and only so much even I can eat. The line outside is misleading as it moves fast, once you order you grab a table. There never seemed to not be a table available so no worries and no need to send someone in to hold. Helpful Hint - Use the restroom when passing in-line as getting back to it requires going back past hungry customers waiting to order. Super friendly Staff and the Owner (Wife) is on the cash register. Super nice and very pleasant. Good Prices, Great Food, Great Service & for sure some of the best pancakes that I have had !!!

There's also plenty of seating indoors, good for big groups. The ambiance can be described as casual and rustic. They take tap to pay, but there's a % charge for all credit transactions. The service was unique to accommodate the busy flow. All parties grab one tray to pick their drinks and if they'd like to get anything from the grab-n-go section (granola, cereal, juice). Then, you order from the waitress in the front. She was so kind and asked everyone what they had going on for the day. We did stand in line for about 20 minutes but it went by quickly as we watched the cooks in the open kitchen. They have a relatively simple breakfast menu that can be customized to add sides or toppings. Everything is reasonably priced for the portion size. We got a berry berry waffle, which had the blueberries in the batter and strawberries on top & the chocolate monkey pancakes with bacon which had the chocolate chips in the batter and banana on top. The food was fresh made and delicious. I'd recommend coming here if you're looking for a good, hearty breakfast while in OBX with great customer service!

Our service was great. But the food, sub par. Soft drinks were "odd" for lack of better word. So I returned it for a beer cause, why not. Sweet tea was so sweet that we had to dilute it with water. We can handle that. The food would have been great, had they used ANY SEASONING at all. Everything tasted as tho the kitchen lost all S&P privileges. I had the prime rib w/ au jus. Meat was tender and onions cooked nicely. But it definitely didn't match the description which was something like "on a hoagie bun topped with garlic and butter." It was not. Which would have really helped carry the no seasoning deal. Au jus, had great potential, just no flavor. I ended up eating the meat alone and left the bread. Wife got the Reuben. Which was overall ok. Much more flavor than mine. But only bc of the sauerkraut. Oldest daughter got the BYO burger, with cheese and pickle. The burger was clearly a frozen patty from the store. As clearly defined by the shape of the patty. She ate half and the other half sits in the fridge as I type, from 2 nights ago. (I usually eat all the leftovers) I leave this review in hopes that the management and kitchen staff will start to properly season their food. Arts has great potential. But not without seasoning!
