I've been here multiple times. I even tried them again this past weekend. The dine in service is fine but trying your luck at the bar to dine is truly a hit or miss. My last review was flagged by the owner because I complained about their stale beer and a flat coke; and the service was slow (even on a non crowded day). If you need an area to have a quick lunch and a meeting with someone; it's quiet enough. If you're looking for quality, well. I'd say they need to come up a bit. The Cajun Chicken Pasta dish was a volcano of flavor! IT was perfect after a good workout (at the Life Time Fitness right behind it) and I enjoyed it! I'm surprised that the workers didn't pay much attention to the restroom. It was horrid! There was a toilet where it seemed someone was too sick to flush and left havoc in their wake. I flushed it, but there still a mess in the stall. What makes me think that the workers weren't attentive is that the waste can, which is attached to the bottom of the sink, was overflowing with paper towels. If you have a problem with cleaning up paper towels, I suggest investing in the air dryers. The four stars is purely for the food. read more

It's brunch Sunday. The place is crowded but it is moving nicely. First time here so I didn't realize I needed to place my order at the counter and that no one was coming to the table. I order tortilla soup, chicken tenders, put roast grilled cheese, pot stickers, breakfast croissant, yougart bowl, and mimosa flight. The soups weren't hot and there was an hair on my plate with my garlic bread. The waiter took it back to replate it but I never got my bread. No problem. The grilled cheese pot roast was eaten by my 12 year old son he said it was just ok. My 13 year old daughter enjoyed the breakfast croissant and the yogart bowl. I had the best first time experience this weekend for brunch. I entered not knowing it was order and pick up kinda of place but I adapted really well. I sat at the bar in front of a complimentary computer. Watched FIFA on the flat screen and had great conversation. Now to the main event. The FOOD!!!! So I ordered the Steak Benadict and the french toast just to get a feel of the place. Since they both come in two's I thought the second of each would be the same. The Steak was an easy fix, and the so I sent it back. The manager gave me an entire new plate of food. I was surprised. They insisted that I have it and brought me a take home box. That was very kind of them and they didn't know it was my first time there. I wasn't a big fan of the syrup on for the french toast. Overall it was delicious. We came in here last minute after a mishap with an online food order from another restaurant. We are so glad we did. The service and food were spot on. If you are in the mood for a big hearty salad the Cobb is so good and they don't skimp on the chicken eggs and bacon. My son had the coconut shrimp, he said it was delicious. Celebrated my daughter's 25th birthday on Sunday, August 28th with an amazing brunch. Their mimosas are freaking awesome and so was the breakfast croissant. The overall experience at Black Walnut Café was good. You order upon entering and seat yourself, which I enjoyed because it gave me some time to look over the menu. The downfall to that is, they were out of the Shrimp Zucchini dish I wanted to try and felt pressured to find something else on the menu, being that there was a line starting behind me. We were able to order beer and were given tickets at the register to take to the bar. I had the ancient grain bowl which had a bit of a sweet taste as well as some crunch from the walnuts. The chicken was nice and tender, it was good but not something I would order when I return. The bar was not busy and we were able to order our beers very quickly. The service from all employees was great and we were greeted by the manager to check on how our meal had been. Utensils, beverage machines, to go boxes and all other items needed are easily accessible. The atmosphere is nice and I enjoyed the dimmed lighting, and chill vibe. I invited my friend to my favourite coffee spot, but this time the experience was different. The gentleman at the register was great and welcoming. I got my good in good time, we ordered additional cake from the desert bar. 15 minutes later a young server brought us 2 plates of the same cake. We told her that we only paid for one. She left to check if that was accurate and meantime both plates where at our table. Over 5 minutes has passed and she returns to tells us that " yes you only paid for one and I'll go ahead and take the other plate" my friend of course Told her if she will throw it away we will just take it just so they don't need to dispose of a good piece of cake. She then said " oh no I'll put it back on the desert display" Well we all looked at each other and one of us was developing a cold and said.. let's see if she actually put it back to serve the same plate that we talked and coughed over for 5 minutes.. and she did.. so we decided we will not be coming back again specially now and how after so much health violations have been violated just in this short example of putting the cake back for other people to get.. i would not want to be that next person to get that life of cake. read more

I came with a group of 6 for a friend's birthday brunch, Saturday around 10am. We got there right before a rush and managed to snag a big enough table. Others coming in were having difficulty finding a seat. Having a seat yourself restaurant for brunch is probably not the most efficient thing. The coffee of the month, Nutcracker, was absolutely fantastic. I loved my pancakes, eggs, bacon and potatoes. However I was the only one out of the group that liked them, no one else finished theirs. I enjoyed the food but the way this place is set up is exhausting. You have to wait in line to order your food, go back to pick it up, get your own everything. The water/soda/coffee are on the opposite side of any seating that accommodates more than a few people. I spent half of brunch just fetching things. Not sure why there was a tip option when I paid when no one did anything for us at all. I would come back but in a small enough group to sit near where all the items are grouped so I can enjoy my meal more and walk around less. read more

Less than impressed. Empty when we got there which was an excuse for the staff to lack with their service. Attentive only if asked for help. They were too focused placing gelato into a stainless container and using a towel to maneuver it, unsure why you do this when you're wearing gloves. Ordered the Spinach Artichoke Dip which was served hard and cold and drove us to the conclusion to finish our drink and leave. Needless to say. I was disappointed that they recently changed how they make the tomato basil soup. Instead of the noodles and cheese they used prior. They replaced it was croutons and it was not great at all. Sauce still tastes the same but I will not order that again. Other than that, ambiance is nice. Especially on a sunny day you can dine outside. Customer service has always been fine. Cute spot for brunch. Is it clean? Yes. Occasionally there are plates left about on tables outside but nothing that makes me grossed out. Food taste? It's ok not my favorite spot to eat but it hits the spot for an early lunch. Again, no longer a fan of the soup. I really enjoyed this place. Plenty of parking, and the people were very nice. I ordered a burger and the patty was much larger than the gluten free bun! It was quite tasty too! This is a great place to eat when you don't want to be rushed. Plenty of seating inside and your choice of inside or outside. I love this place. I would give it five stars but I have a pretty major, easily fixed, issue with this place. The food is delicious. I've been many times and never had a problem with the quality or taste. The atmosphere is pleasant. The restaurant is clean and well decorated. I love the variety of food. If I want lobster Mac and cheese or crab stuffed sea bass or simply a turkey club they have it. The coffee, the sweets, the cocktails... they can cater to any mood I'm in. This place has it all and the prices reflect it. Its quite expensive but totally worth it. Wonderful food and friendly staff. Including managers! Despite my brothers scary look they happily greeted us and asked about the food. I have so much to say about the amazing breakfast that I received so quickly at the Black Walnut... so I'll go in order. Line went quickly and the register man was very cooperative. Coffee was hot and satisfactory. The tomato egg Benedict... oh my I would order it a million times again. The egg was perfect, the potatoes were yummy with the egg, the sauce was wonderful, and the tomato was a little thick; it almost took over the whole dish. But I'll let that slide because the food was so great. I'd honestly let it speak for itself. I sat in a corner with artificial plants hanging above me and if I looked up I could see the cob webs that collect on them, and the insects trapped in them. If I were any where else in the restaurant I would've missed it but it was just unfortunate that I looked around and spotted that before my meal. So this was my second time to visit this restaurant. Though the food is decent. It's nothing to rave about. But today I had two experiences happen and I now will probably never go back. Today was a Sunday so I was prepared for it to be busy and we were a large party of 10. We called ahead to see if they took reservations, they did not. But still told them we were coming and they recommended someone come early to get a table.A person from our group came 45 minutes early to get a table for our group. We still waited over an hour for a table for us to sit at. Then we stood in line to order our food. Once in line the very sweet young woman took my order. All of that was fine, however I went to pay in cash and couldn't. I'm someone trying to use cash as often as I can to manage my spending. The girl said the owner doesn't want to do it. That's disappointing for me and for the staff. I hope he's tipping his staff properly. That is minor but still a personal opinion that many won't agree with me and I'm ok with that. But the final bit today was the older male who brought some of our food today. I think he was even the manager. He was so rude and off putting. When we asked for more napkins he actually rolled his eyes. Some of my groups orders were wrong and when this was addressed he just grabbed the plates without a word or apology. He seemed irritated all around. Disappointed is all I can say. Not with the food but mainly with atmosphere around the service once seated. I work retail, I've worked restaurants and I know how very hard it is. Many restaurants right now are hurting for staff. This one today was not. But due to my experience today. The chicken taquitos were really good, just a tad too crunchy. The fiesta-pasta was okay, it was a little bland and had more veggies than pasta. We ordered take out tonight and I must say we were surprisingly satisfied. I'll admit I was a bit put off by the 3.5 star review but after looking at the menu we decided to give it a try. They have a broad menu to choose from. My girlfriend had eaten here before and suggested the Black Walnut Lemon Chicken Pasta for our entrees. It was spot on delisous, the portions were good sized and for under $11.00 you really cant do any better! For desert we ordered cannolis, they were flaky and crisp, the filling was smooth and flavorful the chocolate chips were a added bonus. If your looking for good food at a decent price I would recommend giving them a try, we will definitely be going back to try other menu items. Been to many Black Walnut Cafe locations, however this one was disgusting! There was mold in and around, the water and drink station. Luckily we brought our own coffee. The food came out fast, and the girls at the front were nice. But the food was rancid. It tasted rotten, moldy? I'm left with an awful taste in my mouth. I'm not sure the place has ever been cleaned. I love the toasted ravioli ( even though they always serve you too much bread with it). The beer/ wine is kind of over priced and don't order a draft beer. They will give it to you in a 4ounce glass. I ordered The Salmon Omelette with Grapefruit juice and picked out a nice little table to sit at and in less than 15 minutes my food was out. Doug the General Manager came by my table to make sure I was ok and asked if I needed anything. The Salmon Omelette was really good and the customer service was great just as well, I would definitely recommend dining in.I will put the Black Walnut Café on my list as a great restaurant to eat at. read more
