Went in to grab a snack and the man working behind the counter tracked me through the store, asked me if I needed help finding something, then upon saying I was looking for snacks was told "we don't have any. Go to 7-Eleven down the street." Seemingly helpful at a glance until you're in my shoes and can clearly see the multiple shelves with candy and snacks haphazardly thrown up around the store. Extremely unprofessional. I purchased two kegs for my dual keg fridge. Only one fit inside. So I called the store to let them know I had to return one of them. I didn't tap one glass of beer out of it. He agreed to issue a refund over the phone. I brought it back, and in cheap taste, instead of honoring what he said, he accused me of trying to return a half-consumed keg!! I had not poured one glass from it. I was shocked. I asked if he would at least refund my deposit he charged me for the keg. He refused. The store manager or owner is a liar and a cheat. Do not support his business. read more

Sold me a bottle of fake blantons. I bought the bottle in the box and gifted to my father. Upon opening, the seal was damaged and we tried the whiskey. It is absolutely not blantons, you can really tell by the color as well. I would not buy expensive liquor from this store. Or if you do triple check the product because once you leave "all sales are final". I will be notifying Blanton's so they can be aware of this in the future for this location. WOW. What happened here? I will NEVER go to Kings Liquor again. This used to be my go-to liquor store. I had never bought a lottery ticket before, and a friend had told me that they cost $1. So I went in and the man behind the counter (Owner?) and said, Hey I've never done this before, can you help explain to me how it works. I want to get one of those tickets where the numbers are generated automatically. Guy behind the counter had ZERO patience, barely answered me, says, "What do you mean generated? You mean the computer picks the numbers" and I said, yes, that's what I mean. Then when I asked how much the ticket costs, he said "$2" and I replied, oh I was told they were $1. Acting if I had insulted him, he was totally prickly with me and said, "Well you were told wrong," and he proceeded to get nastier when I said, I'm just trying to ask you how to do this, and he says "Well I'm telling you and you don't want to listen to me!" At which point I said, Wow, what happened here? You used to be very nice and I used to be a regular here but obviously I'm not buying this from you." And when I left, he followed me out, like I'm some criminal. NEVER going here again. read more

There is a variety of wines and drink mixes and have lots of candy and snacks too. The last few wines I got there I was very happy with and can't find anywhere else. I usually get pretty bummed out at liquor stores. So even though there was a weird lady sitting outside with her dog getting offended that people thought she was homeless, I think this place is quite the exception. They have a great beer and wine selection and they properly cover up their dirty magazines. The selection was just ok, not any better than Ralphs and more expensive than Ralphs. These guys appeared to be all friendly and nice, they were quick to serve me and packaged my bottles up. It wasnt until I was walking out that I realized that they charged me double for my Tanqueray! Double--they charged me $28 for what is usually $16 and they didnt give me an itemized reciept. Was looking for a Fat Tire to go with dinner. Took some looking in the beer fridge and finally found one that said Fat Tire on it. Got it home and opened it. It tasted funny. Looked at the expiry date that was feb 14. Took it back to the same guy I paid 15 minutes before the return, told my story and was told they don't sell beer after the expiry date and that the beer still had fizz???? Best liquor store in the area by far. Overall wide selection especially the beers (lot's of craft IPA's). It's more spacious than your average liquor store, about double the size. But the best thing about the store is the owner Fred. He knows all the usual customers by name and is always in a good mood that will brighten your day. Easy parking (they have their own lot and there is plenty on the street), huge selection, and they deliver quickly on their own or via Postmates. Store owners have been there for years and still run the business to this very day. I like coming here for basic necessities. Sometimes you find a place that just makes sense. King's is that place for me. They are within walking distance so I go often. I can get pretty much anything I need at King's. Out of paper towels? Toilet paper? Dish soap? Pretty much anything you can run out of that you buy from a supermarket, you can buy at King's to tide you over until you re stock. I've even seen them help people out with their bags when they are too heavy. Best keg selection (full size and pony kegs) on the west side with the best prices to go with them. Fred, the owner, is very knowledgable about wines. They have a pretty decent collection with some great prices (better than Ralphs). If you tell him what you are looking for and at what price and he'll know what to pick out for you. Check out there beer selection. Fred is constantly adding new brews from the top microbrews. This is a true neighborhood store. When I'm in there, I usually end up running into someone I know and we stop and chat. Fred is so friendly with everyone. With so much of Santa Monica constantly changing, it's nice to have a consistent place like King's. King's truly is a fabric of the community here in Santa Monica. read more

I went into King's liquor on the evening of 8/12/2017, to pick up a soda prior to a long drive home to a southern part of the state. I noticed one of the proprietors, an older woman, eating a plate of food. Curious, I asked what it was. One of the other proprietors told me it was rice, chicken and potatoes, and apparently thinking I was hungry, offered to feed me. DON'T BUY KEGS HERE!!!!! The owner became extremely rude once I asked about the "born on date" of the keg. Told me they didnt have one. I explained that they do and he should know where to find it. He then told me that ALL his kegs are 6 months old and if I wanted a fresh keg I should go to BEVMO. That surprised me. I always try and support local mom & pop stores but when Pop is rude and admits his products are no good then ill gladly go to BEVMO.
