A Disappointing Decline: Disgusting! Sick, Overpriced, and Unacceptable! After visiting the Blackbird Cafe over the last 10 years with fond memories, my visit today was the worst dining experience I can recall. The restaurant seems to have lost its way completely, offering poor hygiene, terrible service, and food that made me physically lose what little I did eat on the drive home. Service & Atmosphere: The venue was eerily empty with water on the floor. The staff was sparse and the one that was present was sitting at a table on their phone when we entered. It appeared much like they were disinterested; we were seated by someone who took our drink order she never returned, Another server brought our drink order. The shift to a "Mexican" menu felt rushed and unpolished. The Food Quality: NONE - ZERO STARS!!!! * Burrito Supreme: Lacked any authentic flavor. The meat tasted like burnt, canned Hormel chili. The tortilla was chewy, and the guacamole tasted like cheap mayonnaise. The flavor profile was so poor I became nauseous and had to stop eating. * Quesadillas: These were essentially folded flour tortillas with dry, chewy chicken chunks and bland cheese. There was zero seasoning. The portions were laughably small (approx. 1/4 cup of chicken per quesadilla), and the cheese didn't even hold the filling together. Value for Money: POOR! We WASTED $52 for a burrito/2 half quesadillas (without sides), two sodas, and a negative health experience. The food quality was worse than low end fast food Mexican Food Chains. Outcome: POOR!!!!!! The meal was so bad that I ended up throwing up on the way home. Recommendation: If you value your money, your taste buds, and your stomach, DO NOT GO HERE. I cannot recommend this restaurant in any capacity. read more

Please bring the old menu and food back! I was so disappointed this was our go to place and now it is likely we will not go back. I am not sure if there is new owner or management but it is not so good. I thought it was just one time but our second visit confirmed the change. So sad! Giving it a 3 for great service. read more

We stopped down for a late lunch/early dinner after a high get the local state park. I found this place on yelp and it is definitely a gem with cute, rustic decor. The food and service were excellent. I had the buffalo chicken salad and my husband had a "build a burger." It is actually two restaurants in one the Blackbird and a Mexican Cantina. You can sit on either side and order from both restaurants. Prices were good; however, there's a 4% fee to use a credit card. read more

The customer service is great, the waitresses are extremely nice, they move at a steady pace and I am never waiting long even when it's super busy! The food is AMAZING!! We stopped in to give the Blackbird Cafe a try for our 35th Anniversary. We we were greeted with a smile by Maggie our server for this celebration and she was a rock star. We started off with chips and cheese dip that was the perfect start. Then we ordered our meal. I choose one of the specials that happened to be hamburger steak and onion gravy with french fries Yes it was delicious. My wife went for the Deep South BLT with the jalapeño ranch sauce. My wife was concerned about the jalapeño ranch sauce and on Maggies suggestion she went for it and she loved it. Then to close it out the brownie and ice cream with the chocolate sauce capped off a great experience. We highly recommend you stop in and give them a try. PS we loved the decor. read more

I was here about 3 years ago and food was really good. Not the same now. I ordered Ribeye (medium) with grilled vegetables. The steak came out and was overcooked and like chewing jerky, very tough. The vegetables were undercooked and burnt from the grill. I asked for my check 2 minutes after food was delivered and the server asked if I wanted a to-go box. Um, NO. Absolutely LOVE visiting this small town and cafe. The first time I ate here was with my boyfriend who has a large appetite and we both left full and happy. The second time was for a girls trip and once again, we all left full and happy, and even had leftovers to take with us. It's close to other shops and just overall great service. When you're the only gig in town, things can go either way! We found this gem in an obscure town on a late winter week night. I think this area pops on the weekends, and certainly in the spring and summer. Tourist-friendly themes abound ~ antique stores, ice cream shops, all closed when we were there. Thankfully, the Blackbird Cafe is open on a Monday night! The menu is American extensive (not to be mistaken for expensive!) This family-friendly spot can serve up steak, salad, quesadillas, wings, fish, and burgers. Our party ordered the fish, wings, and a pimiento cheese burger. The burger was perfect ~ with a bonus of being able to taste the flavorful pimiento cheese. Fries are served separately from the burger, but the fish plate had plenty to share. All plates were cleaned at this visit! Staff were local friendly and efficient. Food was served hot hot! Street parking is free. The full-service bar adjoins the dining room. If you're in this neck of the woods in the evening, this is likely your only choice for dinner out. Thankfully, you'll eat hearty and won't be disappointed. read more

Went to eat there with my family, we chose the Mexican food this time. Their tamales were excellent! Their birria tacos, oh so good!!! Oh yes, they have Birria tacos!!!! We also got the Asada tacos and the chicken Quesadilla, which were both great as well. The chicken quesadilla was super packed with chicken. My friend Melissa and I just had lunch here. The service is excellent. All of the servers were super sweet especially Maggie and Ethan. THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!!! They had a party of 30 walk in with no reservation on Labor Day Weekend, which may I say is a complete a**hole thing to do. This was a child's birthday party, so not exactly an unexpected event. It threw a major wrench into the cogs of progress. You overwhelmed the kitchen, you overwhelmed the wait staff. Decided to take a little trip to blackbird cafe while in town visiting sister as her son and daughter in law told us how they go down and eat once a week. My sister and I went down to eat and antique. We went into blackbird cafe, was told to have a seat anywhere which was great. We sat for about 10 minutes with other people coming into restaurant sitting down after us getting menus and drinks and some even their food. So finally I walked over and asked for a menu, was shown where they are kept and pick two menus went back to sit down. More people kept showing up as it was around noon. After looking over menu and deciding what we would like to try, we sat for another 10 minutes with no help, servers walking around getting drinks, food for other customers that came in after us, but still not even a notice of us sitting with no drinks no food nothing...like we where invisible, have never been passed so much with not one of the wait staff saying has anyone helped you yet. Finally I got up again, went to the one lady that told us to sit anywhere and asked who was supposed to be helping us. She apologized and after taking 3 other orders of people that came in after us, we got her to come over, we ordered drinks and food and sat again for about 10-15 more minutes no drinks nothing...finally we both got up after 30 minutes of sitting and waiting for anything and left. This was our first time visiting Blackbird Cafe. I would only give it 1 star, but the reason I rated 2 stars is because we had an excellent and attentive waitress and the fried mushrooms were very good. Two of us ordered chicken dishes, one was a chicken sandwich the other buffalo chicken salad. Acceptable, but nothing to write home about. Another party ordered smothered chicken; it couldn't be cut with a fork because it was it was horribly dry and tough. I suggested sending it back, but he said did not want to do that. So he cut into the other side, thinking that the thicker part might be better tasting or more tender but it wasn't. I asked him to let me sample it so he cut another piece off and I swear it tasted like sawdust. He was not going to say anything but I went ahead and told the waitress that his chicken was in edible. She took it back to the kitchen then came back and stated that they would give us half off the $18 dollar cost of the dish. He told her he was not asking for a discount off the cost but could they please just replace it and we would take it with us. She said that they could not do that because half of it had been eaten. Seriously?? He paid full price for a non edible dish which he should NOT have done but they did not care enough to make this right. We went shopping at some stores after and relayed our experience. We were told they have a relatively new owner. To her I say " good luck" because your customer service leaves a lot to be desired. We won't be back. read more

Don't even know where to start. We ordered cheese curds with marinara sauce. What came out was regular tomato sauce. Now, our meals were sitting in the window under the heat lamp before she even noticed that our appetizer wasn't even out. Our nachos were cold and had to send them back. My son's nachos had like 6 pieces of steak that was like shoe leather. My bun was hard from sitting in the window. The burger wasn't cooked well done. The server never came and checked on us. Love this place. Friendly Cheers type atmosphere. They may not know your name but they remember your Drink Order. Mostly simple menu, burgers, sandwiches, salads etc. but always well done and efficiently served. They do a surprisingly good job with Quesadillas too! Busy enough at dinner time but never enough to slow down service. We go once or twice a week and have not been disappointed yet. Please patronize. The manager of this restaurant only cares about the new Mexican side of the restaurant. My wife and I used to eat there once a week. She did away with the fresh cut fries, started buying lower quality beef, and started cooking the burgers on the same grill with the Mexican food. The burger is bad - very bad. The ribeye special was great and make sure you split it with someone because it's a big cut. Service was absolutely flawless and the staff really makes you feel like family.
