I will say we started with the best Bloody Mary's, I have had in a long time. A must have. Then we have 3 appetizers. The cheese curds, white cheese curds were really good, then we had the Full Tilt Fries, also a must try. Last appetizer was the artichoke and spinach dip. It was still good, but more spinach then cheese, and the pita chips, some a little too fried. We finished the night with steak sliders. Those were awesome too. The staff was awesome and super nice. We were so psyched to get the Friday fish fry after reading the other reviews, but it wasn't quite as good as we had read. We have been back to avoiding eating in (thanks, Omicron), so we called and asked if they could still do fish fry curbside, and they said yes. I said I know it won't be all-you-can-eat, but is it a good portion? And the guy I talked to said "yeah, we load you up". So we called when we were on our way, and they said it would be ready in 10 minutes, which it was, freshly fried and hot! Everything was tasty, and we really liked the coleslaw and cornbread that came with it, but we only got 3 medium sized pieces of fish, definitely not what we would consider "loading you up". We also thought the fish coating was a bit undercooked, it wasn't quite golden brown. And they didn't give us any ketchup for the fries, butter for the corn bread, forks or napkins, so we had to scrounge when we got back to our motel. BUT there really aren't a lot of choices in the area, and as you can see on Yelp, a lot of them get pretty terrible reviews. So I would say this is among the better restaurants in town, and we would definitely try it again when we can eat in, or when the weather is better and we can eat outside. read more

Big Beef was terrible. Very dry. Liters did not eat it. When waitress asked how it was, and it had one bite out of it, I replied not good. She took it and walked away. There was eight of us. Ambiance was good. May have a drink thee but won't eat there again due to fact that nothing was done to correct problem. I own several restaurants. read more

Fantastic food, fantastic staff! Came here and had some amazing burgers. And it sounds silly, but their pickles absolutely blew us away. The friendly chef was making the rounds, asking how everything was, and we couldn't help but geek out about how amazing we thought their pickles were. The guy was so friendly he even offered to send us home with extra pickles! How cool is that? Such a great addition to the Hayward food scene, and really great to see people who clearly have a passion for their business. It shows in the amazing food! read more

Great service even thru the Covid pandemic! Got the Fish fry!! We got the fires and roasted potatoes both delicious. I think next time I would stick to the fries. Came with slaw and corn bread. Given you couldn't dine in for all you could eat they still gave you a good amount of fish. Cool little bar and restaurant on the side of the road. Outside and inside are new and nice looking! Very clean inside, a good amount of seating available and they have WiFi since you probably don't have service there other than that. Cold beer - no complaints there! We've been going here for years! The owner is super nice and so is the rest of the staff. Food is flipping fantastic; my personal favorite is the "monster burger." Service is always relatively quick and the environment is always warm and lively. Not to mention, the entire restaurant is always pristine and so are the bathrooms. We were famished but late getting to eat. The "locals" recommended the Blackiron. We called ahead to see if they were still serving. We were told they only had the pizza oven going so we headed on over. When we walked in the door they told us that we could order off the menu because they turned everything back on!!! We visited here several times over a weekend trip to Hayward. The fish fry on Friday was so delicious that we came back the next night for dinner. I tried the bbq bacon burger and have been craving it ever since! Also it was my first experience trying poutine and I couldn't imagine anyone doing better. The cheese curds are a must have. We were looking for a place for lunch with the family and decided to give the Blackiron a try. So glad we did! We were able to sit outside, which was great. Seemed to be only one guy running the bar and waiting tables, but even still the service was great. Food and drinks were fantastic. I had the burger with bleu cheese and onions. SO GOOD! This restaurant is our favorite near Hayward. I've vacationed in Hayward for over 50 years so I've sampled most eating establishments. We used to go to a different restaurant every night. But now we have a favorite and only visited one other, and wished we hadn't. The food selection and portions are great. The menu is varied enough so you have a good choice and it is prepared with care. Service was great and personable. Prices were inline too. Owner was very uninviting and almost seemed upset we came in, the food was mediocre at best. they didn't even toast the buns for any meal that required a bun the food was warm but not hot keep in mind we were the only customers in the restaurant that (if that's what you call this disaster) so the food should have been hot. My wife and I really enjoyed this restaurant. The decor and surroundings are pleasant and rustic in tune with the area. We really enjoy their chicken dinner entrée. We've been there a handful of times and have always had a good meal. Not your usual bar food. Not a big menu but a nice one with good healthy choices. I've been coming to Hayward for several years, and was always looking for (and not finding) a great laid back restaurant that still had amazing food. Hidden little gem in northern Wisconsin. Stopped in a bit late on Saturday night. Service was great. Very friendly and accommodating even though they were winding down for the night. Four off us had a combination of burgers, chicken sandwiches, chicken pasta dish, and a salad. Came out quickly and was piping hot and delicious.
