the UNCLE TIGER (bacon, avocado, cheddar, arugula, pickled onions, and chipotle crema on toasted seeded sourdough bread)
    Scott T.

I was jonesing for Dutch Crunch Bread, and when I did a Yelp search, this place popped up. weird that I've eaten more than a couple of times next door (Tanner's Prime Burger) and across the street (Corner Pizza) and never thought to stroll inside for a quick look around. the young lady at the register was delightful and the display cases we browsed while waiting for our sandwiches were brimming with tempting goodies. my eighteen-year-old got the UNCLE TIGER (bacon, avocado, cheddar, arugula, pickled onions, and chipotle crema on toasted seeded sourdough bread) and gave it two enthusiastic thumbs up. I had the RANCH HAND (bacon, turkey, cheddar, arugula, red onion, chipotle honey crema, and ranch dressing on toasted Dutch Crunch bread) and it also got two enthusiastic thumbs up. we shared (as much as you can share desert with a teenager armed with a spoon he can wield like a broadsword) a CREME BRULEE TART (dark chocolate ganache, vanilla custard, sponge cake, and torched sugar crust). he's been busy mastering the fine art of brûlée making and clearly expressed his opinion that theirs is pretty good but his are better. BLACKMARKET BAKERY is different sort of place. if you're expecting something old-school sandwich-wise, rethink your choice. but if you're flexible enough to enjoy something out of the ordinary, this is a ways down a road less traveled lunch experience.

What a cute little bakery! Phenomenal almond croissant! I get a lot of almond croissants and this is one of the best. So much filling and topping with tons of flavor. Will definitely come back.

This spot was close to HomeState and my girlfriend felt like an iced coffee to enjoy for the remainder of the drive home. I got one of their butter croissants and it was fluffy and perfect. I would love to come back and try more of their stuff and take home bread to make things with later on. I hope this place continues to thrive on.

Black Market Bakery is finally open in South Oceanside! But this gem of a spot is more than just bakery, it's a great pastry shop that I feel many will enjoy. Located on Vista Way in South Oceanside and part of the Freeman Collective (just next to HomeState), Black Market Bakery has a parking lot in front of it. There's a little bit of patio seating available and plenty of seating inside. Because of the setup, small groups can also enjoy sitting in both settings. The decor is very modern, trendy and still simple. There was alternative rock & pop playing on their playlist and fit the mood. There restroom is small, simple & clean. They've got cookies, cakes, shortbreads, brownies, brittles, tarts, dessert bars, buns, croissants, sandwiches , a delicious breakfast burrito and even cheesecakes. They also carry vegetarian options. There's also fresh bread baked daily. I'm personally happy that Black Market Bakery is now open and I think it's a benefit to our community.

12 out of 10 - everything was perfect. I am so excited that Blackmarket Bakery is finally open in North County!! We've been long going to the Costa Mesa and North Park locations and knew this location would be amazing and it certainly didn't disappoint! We went opening day and 10/10 on ambiance and environment - it was so cute and there was ample seating indoor and outdoor. Loved all of the little details like the curved coffee bar, toaster display stands and ample seating w/ plugs. The staff were absolutely wonderful and everyone was bustling at 8:00 am with fresh bread, cookies and items already out on display with more coming out while we were in line (which was dangerous as we kept adding to our list). I got the fresh Dutch Crunch bread loaf, Berry Poppins, Brioche Cinnamon Roll, a sugar cookie, a gingerbread cookie, an oat milk latte and a 70% chocolate bar. Every item was incredible. Everything was tasty, fresh and shockingly well priced. My husband and I have already agreed to get our fresh bread here weekly because it was absolutely delicious. The Berry Poppins was like the best homemade pop tart you've ever had, the brioche cinnamon roll was so tasty and sweet but not too sweet. And the latte was perfect - not bitter or too acidic, just perfect. Also LOVE the heat sleeve on the coffee - we got a good laugh out of it. Truly 12/10

Black Market - Oceanside, CA Perfect stop after Legoland! Great coffee, tasty food, and chill vibes. Their breakfast sandwich is on point--just what we needed before heading back to Ontario. Highly recommend for a quick, satisfying break.

Stopped by Blackmarket Bakery and really liked the vibe. It's got an artsy, relaxed atmosphere that makes you want to hang out for a bit. We ordered the breakfast burrito, churro croissants, piña colada matcha, blackberry matcha, and a loaf of lemon rosemary bread. The burrito was the highlight for me. It was super flavorful and easily one of the best I've had in a while. The churro croissants were good but tasted more like a cinnamon pastry than a churro or a croissant. The piña colada matcha wasn't really my thing, but it was interesting and worth trying. The blackberry matcha was great and something I'd definitely order again. I haven't tried the bread yet, but it looks solid. Service was excellent. Everyone working there was friendly and made the experience even better. I'll definitely be back.

Went on a Sunday morning and service was slow for breakfast burritos but it was worth it ! Staff members were really nice. Also, the BEST cinnamon rolls I've ever had in my life ... I still dream about them. Lol

I had to search many bakeries to find one with cinnamon rolls, so we chose black market. They didn't have them, but the awesome baker, Jericho, said he had used the same ingredients to make some monkey bread to replace it. It did not disappoint! Perfectly gooey caramel, just the right texture of dough...so delicious! The chocolate hazelnut twist was my personal favorite! The croissant dough was held the perfect crunch outside and tenderness inside which accompanied the perfect filling. I keep saying perfect because they were! So worth the drive! And the service was fast and friendly!

REALLY cute bakery in the Freeman Collective. Lots of small cafe tables to enjoy a coffee and a pastry, and the entire bakery is really cute overall. Good luck trying to go home with just one thing!

I was soooo excited about the Philly connection, as I'm very familiar with cheesesteaks having lived near Philly in a past life. Well, I was sorely disappointed. We were told that the bread is flown in daily from Philly. Well, I don't know where it's coming from because it's definitely not the same bread as what they normally use there. The sandwich and meat were dry and flavorless. Totally underwhelming unfortunately. So then we saw that they made key lime pie there too! Again, I was SUPER excited because key lime pie is my favorite dessert of all time. And again...disappointment. I took one glance and saw that it was light green in color and knew I was gonna be mad. Yall, Key lime pie is yellow. You should NEVER add food coloring. That's just gross and inaccurate. The texture and flavor were also off. Texturally it was way too thick and dense, which would have been fine if it actually tasted like key lime. But it was severely lacking in that tart key lime flavor that it's known for. I'd definitely go back because of the service and vibe. But I'll maybe try a burger and the cheesecake instead.

Really? Or even more depending where you go. Frankly I don't know how anyone can afford it any longer but that's a different story. The new owners still don't even seem to know what they are doing after I would say 3yrs now, maybe even more since taking over this place. I used to love going here, now I go maybe once every 3 months if even that and I know why. The service is not the same, the owners are clueless and the food doesn't taste the same at all. The atmosphere of feeling like you are at home when most everyone but mostly the owner remembered you, would come talk to you, helped you and knew what she was taking about, is all gone. I was there yesterday for one of my favorite sandwiches, meatball sandwich. I like that the meatballs are small, not a size of a baseball or even larger, just perfect size, tasty etc. I go up to the register and instead of his clueless wife when you ask her a question and she looks at you as if you're from another planet then has to go and ask one of her employees which that in itself looks totally bad, this time was her husband who looks to me for now the 4th time through the year I visited, that should just stick to staying in the gym since he looks like someone that takes care of himself that way, quite fit, and although nothing at all with that, perhaps leave the deli part of it to someone else and go back to working out instead, it seems his forte. When I told him the sandwich I wanted, he clearly said to me "what would you like with the sandwich" a question I was never asked before because it simply came with a small bag of chips or pasta salad, so I asked what did the sandwich come with, "it comes" the word that he used "it comes with", not "extra charge" and he mentioned French fries, bag of chips while he pointed where the chips were, pasta salad. I said, "I'll try the French fries". Not ONE TIME he said to me that none of the items he mentioned to me were extra charge, I even told him, "oh they come with all that you just told me"? He said yes. When I paid the total came to $24 dollars, the sandwich itself was $13.65 and a coke that I ordered was $3, how did it get to $24? Well, the French fries were extra cost. Had I chosen a bag of chips, the once he pointed at were also extra charge just like if I ordered pasta salad, I found out about the extra charge from the lady that brought me the sandwich and I asked why my bill was $24 dollars, SHE, not the owner told me about the extra charges. After I said to her, "why didn't or doesn't the owner tell you so instead of saying that these extras come with the sandwich" she looked at me and said "I don't know". She didn't even know however any of the prices of the sandwich they sell. These are the new employees now. I know you are going to think why I didn't ask right away why my bill was $24 dollars. I didn't even think about it immediately, I was hungry at this point, the place was quite busy and I wanted to find a place to sit, no excuse, but didn't think about it right away. Not until I set down and then started thinking about why my bill was higher. That was my fault. I should have immediately asked and actually I should have gone to the owner afterwards and mentioned to him that he should tell the customers correctly, meaning do NOT SAY "IT COMES WITH" that means IS NOT EXTRA CHARGE. He needs to say that wherever we want with it, there is an extra, then up to the customer if he/she wants it or not. The sandwich did not taste like the way it used to taste, meatballs still small but they were very salty, and the fries although I will say cooked pretty nice, crispy and all, a very small portion and also very salty. Overall and sadly for me because I truly liked this place a lot with the previous owner, it's not a place I would go back to. The prices are as high and now higher than any other place nowadays, nothing spectacular, their bakery department is now very limited, used to be huge and very nice selections, they used to have a pastry chef in the back that made the best deserts, and I don't know if they also changed cook, but nothing tastes the same. The place is always very busy, so I am sure I won't be missed, I won't waste my money here again. The new owners should by now know what they sell, know how to interact with customers better, know the job they took over. The owners before were absolutely wonderful and great to talk to, they would interact with you ask you if everything was ok, great service from the staff. I miss them and the new owners really need to step up, it's time. The place also very dirty on floors, tables, trash cans totally disgusting and filthy.
