I've only been to Petit Madeline twice. Once before we moved to Oceanside and once more recently, a 10 year gap. And when I had a taste of their food a couple of days ago, I'm not sure why I didn't come back sooner. Service was very pleasant. Plenty of seating. Had the chicken and waffles and it was really good. The savory crepes could use less onions but the meat had a lot of flavor. Good locatin also, close (ish) walk to the pier if you want to burn off the calories. Not waiting 10 years to go here again. read more

Five stars all the way! We have found our new favorite breakfast place in Oceanside. We picked up a large order to go which took ~15 to 20 minutes on a weekday around 8 AM. One of the best items is the Chicken and Waffles Benedict ($19). It worked extremely well together with the sweetness of the Belgian waffle and the savory notes of the chicken. It included small containers of maple syrup. The hashbrowns were the best! They really killed it with the super crispy outside. Loved it! However, DH liked the Savory Crêpe ($15) even more! This one just had such a great flavor combination: the little bits of chicken, mushrooms, and classic Provence seasoning. The avocado toast ($8.50) with an over-easy egg ($3) was amazing. It features a multigrain bread and just had some great toasty flavors and topped with a little bit of micro greens. Everything worked so well together. The ham and cheese croissant sandwich ($9.25) is a rectangular shaped one. There is an omelette "patty", tomato, and bacon on the inside. This one was also surprisingly good, even when deconstructed and reheated the next day. The kids really enjoyed sharing a sweet crêpe ($14) with four toppings: strawberry, banana, chocolate, and real whipped cream. We tried a cappuccino ($5.25) and a soy latte ($5.25 + $1 for milk substitution). They were really good, not bitter, but I wish it was a little bit more concentrated. Maybe I'll try oatmilk next time. All of the pastries were amazing. We got a bunch to share and enjoy throughout our vacation. We tried two scones ($3.85 each), blueberry and raspberry pecan. The scones were nicely crunchy on the outside, yet soft and tender on the inside. Wow! We froze these for eating the next day and slowly thawed them in the oven and they were still wonderful. The brown butter chocolate chip cookie ($2.95) had a rich buttery taste. The texture is right in the middle and it's pretty large. Holiday Christmas tree cookie ($4.50) is a delicious buttery sugar cookie with a multitude of sprinkles. This one is not very big, but you can tell it required a lot of work to make it. Get more than one! The Chocolatine ($4.75) was a favorite. So flaky and it has a good amount of chocolate in the middle. Cheese Danish ($4.75) and All Day Bun ($3.75) are saved for later so we haven't tried them yet. Overall, an amazing place for a high-quality breakfast. We will be back! read more

Visited for a sit down breakfast in their cafe this time. Its an "order-at-the-counter" and then "find-a-seat" place. They welcome you in and help you at the register once you're ready. They offer menu suggestions if you ask. Their pastry case is beautiful and it's hard to skip out on a pastry! You won't be sorry you did. My mom and her husband joined us and everyone loved their order. The over easy eggs were prepared to perfection, the avocado toast hit the spot, the half order chicken and waffle Benedict was just enough, and the Greek bowl had everything I love in one bowl. Their blueberry cheese danish was our choice this time and it was delicious with the hot coffee. They serve Vigilante coffee. Service was wonderful. Checked our listing for breakfast on a rainy Saturday morning and found this sweet recommended bakery in the heart of Oceanside. What a great find! Upon entering this location off the corner, we were able to place our order fairly quickly while observing the glass case of various bakery items. We chose to have breakfast of french toast & half order of eggs Benedict with Latte and coffee. I also ordered a cinnamon swirl and an apple cinnamon crumb cake. Everything was delicious and the staff came around a few times to ck our coffee and see how we liked it. There was booth and some chair tables near the windows. I normally stay with proteins but gave in and was not disappointed. The service was awesome as well. Didn't catch our servers name or I'd give her a shoutout. This is a nice little place for breakfast, or pastries. I end up getting th pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon and coffee. When you enter you order and pay first, then find a table. Silverware, napkins, and water is self serve. They bring your food and drink to your table. Everything was g except the bacon. It tasted like it wasn't pork. I almost didn't finish it. My wife and I with our friends (who recommended this place) visited this casual, quaint and uniquely decorated cafe and bakery. You order your food at the walk up counter and they bring it out to you. We ordered Eggs Benedict, crêpes with strawberry, no Nutella and a side of turkey and a fried egg. I rarely order eggs Benedict because other restaurants do not serve the eggs on an English muffin nor do they use Canadian bacon. This restaurant does. I ordered my hollandaise sauce on the side because it can get a little too buttery and I like to control that taste so if you are like me, it would be a good idea to order the sauce on the side. The potatoes were delicious. They are not frozen, but our hand cut and fried. My wife tried their crêpes with strawberries. She found the creeps We're prepared very well and the strawberries were sweet. She did not want the Nutella although I would recommend that you do because it just adds to the sweetness of this breakfast entrée. For the last year or so, my husband has been in search of the ultimate croissant. There aren't too many French bakeries near our home so it really was a hit and miss. Surprisingly, we thought we had found a pretty decent croissant at a local donut and pastry shop. Then we went to France again. We had forgotten how delicate and decadent a true croissant could be. Maybe better because we were able to enjoy them beachside. They were flaky and buttery. Baked perfectly. In addition to freshly baked items, they serve a variety of breakfast meals. I didn't have any so am unable to comment. I can say however there was another woman who arrived shortly after me who said she had driven in from San Diego to eat breakfast. I arrived at the bakery about 10 minutes before they opened. I was invited in so I could sit at one of the tables until they officially opened. They were still setting up the tables for the day. The restaurant has a somewhat eclectic vibe, very comfy. I look forward to a return visit to try more items on their menu (plus maybe another croissant). read more

I recently went to go vacation in Oceanside and saw this bakery and was very intrigued to try some pastries or breakfast. I thought I was only going to be visiting once on my week vacation but found myself back three more times. I'm a sucker for a good avocado toast and a fresh fruit tart so as soon as I saw that fruit tart, I knew I had to try it. I believe they change out their baked goods throughout the week so you might not see the same pastries, I went back for the fruit tart and sadly did not see any. The croissant has the best crunch through each layer & just the right amount of chocolate to satisfy the palate. Hands down the freshest croissant I've ever had, from coast to coast. The lunch experience is excellent. I had the Fried Chicken Sando (with vinaigrette salad) & wifey had the Turkey Honey-Chipotle (with their home fries). Cute Restaurant with a diner like atmosphere. I live in San Diego but wanted to explore Oceanside so took the train up (apprx 30 min from downtown San Diego). Even though it was after 12:00 pm on a Sunday, I still wanted breakfast. So I looked up breakfast spots and Petite Madeline Bakery came up. It did not disappoint. The staff was very friendly, but it did take a little while to get my food (even though it wasn't that busy. That's the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars. I ordered the egg croissant sandwich with spinach, feta cheese, & tomatoes. It was reasonably priced at $11 for the area. I also ordered a side of their "lemon creama" which tasted and looked like lemon butter to put on my croissant sandwich. It was delicious and very filling for me. We've been here a handful of times with parties of 2-3, and it's always been a decent experience. The food is mostly good, pastries hit or miss, and the service is calm and efficient. You order at the counter and they give you a number to set at your table. It's looks to be self seating, but they will take your party number when you're in line to order and reserve a table for you if any are open. There is a water, utensil, and napkin station to help yourself. Don't try to come here if you have more than 4 in your party. We recently came with a party of 7, and discovered that they do not accommodate combining tables, so it was very awkward squeezing our party on a square 4-top + round 2-top near each other. There were other square tables that opened up next to each other that could have been combined to create more logical seating, but they refused, even as the 4-top tables sat empty, and then much later filled by parties of 2. The only explanations I got for the refusal to accommodate was from a gentlemen who told me to trust him that it's the best they can do because he has worked there for 5 years, and they have to keep tables open for other customers in this small restaurant. In retrospect, I now realize that they were unhappy with us taking up tables before we ordered. I stopped trying to make sense of it when I realized they weren't interested in accommodating us, but just wanted us to move along. Lesson learned to not come here with a large party or linger too long, their business model is built on getting people in and out efficiently, which I can appreciate. read more

We've started going to Petite years ago when they offered table service. Now the experience is quite different. You grab a menu when you walk in, and line up to place your order. This place is small, so you'll see people scoping out a table almost immediately. Once you're seated you almost don't get service. There were times we got our food before getting our drinks (water and black coffee). There were times we had to ask for drinks, even after waiting for 10 minutes. Now water is self serve, which is good. Food. * Smoked Salmon Benedict. Nothing to write home about for this one. It was pretty basic, but they used to make the hash browns extra crispy! Mmmmmm those hash browns were cooked perfectly! Now they're way flat, and not crispy at all. Please bring back the crispy has browns, even people next to me would ask "do they always make them like that" because they use to be so good! Even my boys would eat them up. Pastries. This is where they hit home. Almost every pastry I've had has been top notch! The bear claw is the best I've had in a very long time. Even the savory ones such as the ham and cheese croissant are memorable. They make their croissants in house and specialize in a lot of their pastries, I can't even remember them all! So definitely try a pastry if you're in the area! Drink. The chai latte with oat milk is divine!!! It's creamy goodness in a cup so perfect, and a new fave! They make special pies around the holidays. We had the banana one last year and it was gone within minutes! Street parking can be tricky, even early mornings. Petite has my heart, but boy I wish they'd bring back those hash browns and some of the previous staff. Everyone used to be so friendly and personable. We drove in from Orange County and ordered sandwiches and sweets for take out on our trip to Mission San Luis Rey. I appreciated the prompt service and attention to detail with confirming our order and making sure everything was packaged nicely for our picnic. When we arrived at the mission, we started off by sharing a yummy ham and cheese croissant and breaking off bits of peanut butter and chocolate chips cookies. This gave us the energy we needed to get started on our visit. After mass, we enjoyed a picnic on the lawn with our Fried Chicken, Chicken Pesto, and Turkey-Honey Chipotle sandwiches.
