Wow, what a beautiful little bakery. I have been meaning to stop by for a long time but it's a bit out of the way and I kept forgetting. Today I made a point to go! Parking was easy and plentiful which isn't always the case in the shared business lot. Walking up they have a great patio with umbrellas for shade. I was greeted when I walked in and approached the counter. I instantly recognized the desserts by clement fruits and asked if they were the one and only. They are. Nice to have that option closer. I looked at all the beautiful pastries and cakes but settled on a croissant. I took it to go. When I got home I heated it lightly and throughly enjoyed it with my coffee. Came here back in February for an anniversary brunch with my husband and it did not disappoint. I got the caramel latte for coffee and eggs benedict with tots for my meal. I also picked out a dessert from Desserts by Clements that were available, they were too pretty to eat. My husband got the California omelet, I think? It was really good, especially with the avocados. I love this new location and there were so many amazing pastries to choose from, I plan to come here for all of my dessert needs. Service was great and there were tons of outdoor seating as well as indoor seating, but it was too nice to not sit outside. We stayed in hotel across the street and were heading out of town to drive north and just happened to see this bakery. To satisfy sweet tooth we stopped by around lunchtime. The setup is really nice. You can sit inside or outside on the patio and enjoy the sun. I'm particularly fond of the fruit tarts and the one I picked out was amazing. My wife picked out a fruit gel that was special made. We had to let it thaw for 30 minutes, but it was absolutely delicious. The owner was inside very friendly guy and we sat and chatted with him for a little bit. We were frequent customers at the precious location in Carlsbad Village. We were unhappy to see the cafe relocate. We are wrong! The new location is definitely provides more comfortable outdoor seating, easy parking AND the same delicious fare. The new complex also offers other interesting buildings, and businesses with lovely, unexpected outdoor spaces. The architecture is very industrial, but the overall design speaks of a community gathering center. Give this location a try. We were impressed, especially since this is still a family business and does not have a chain store vibe. read more

This place is SO good. Though initially I was saddened that they took over the business space that used to be an Asian Fusion restaurant, sadness quickly turned to happiness! This is a contemporary-style French bakery that serves breakfast & lunch with coffee or wine and other beverages. We walked up to the register to order our food & beverages and got a number to put on our table. The employees were helpful and friendly. I've always appreciated and enjoyed the open layout of this place. There's really nice outdoor seating but inside is good too, still feels like you're dining al fresco. After ordering, our drinks came first. We had the Pistachio Latte and the Lavender Chai and OMG. The BEST we've had anywhere. Then we tried the Chicken Florentine Crepes and the French Onion Soup, both served with a spring salad. My oh my. It was absolutely delicious! Both were on point! Then, we had to get something sweet. My better half has been picking up pastries here since they opened, and l've been consistently impressed by the quality. I finally stopped in myself this week and was absolutely delighted. The space is spotless, with a lovely outdoor seating area and one of the most beautiful pastry displays I've seen locally. I ordered a generous assortment of both refrigerated and baked pastries, and every single one was exquisite. The service was warm, friendly, and patient as I lingered...oohing and admiring every creation behind the glass. This place already feels like the start of a long, happy weekly ritual. I was looking for a new place to have breakfast and saw this Bakery Cafe next to restaurants we frequent when in town. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. There were so many beautiful pieces of art (pastries) behind the counter that I'm sure we'll be back regularly for coffee and pastry to go. We ordered... Mediterranean omelette with taters. Crepes with Grandmanier infused cream Latte (hot and cold) Everything was delicious. My husband and I shared the food. It was a nice combination of savory and sweet. The decor is modern. This place is a problem for me and my family. Come here at your own risk. If you don't want to eat desserts that you will think about the rest of the week, then avoid this place. If you don't want to have to fight the urge to stop by this bakery every time you get groceries at Bressi Ranch, then stay away. If you don't want culinary joy that will ruin any other dessert experience you have in north county, then do not visit the French Bakery Cafe at all costs. Now I have only had lunch at French Bakery Cafe once, and it was delightful, but we do not come here for savory food. My family and I come here to eat baked treats that make me question why we don't move to France right now. We are also regular patrons of Prager Brothers in Carlsbad and love the breads, sandwiches, and occasional pizza. We also love a good sandwich or brunch at O'Brien's Boulangerie when we find ourselves down in Poway. D'liteful Chocolat in San Marcos is an awesome spot for chocolate treats. These are all awesome bakeries but their desserts aren't even on the same f'ing planet as French Bakery Cafe. FBC's whipped creams, mouses, sponges, fruit fillings, chocolate shells, meringues, custards...you name it...are the things dreams are made of. I don't know where they found the bakers that make the desserts in this place, but they need to be protected at all costs. I dare you to go to this place, look in the glass case of treats, and not be tempted to buy one of every damn thing you see in front of you. Go support good food and ignore any of the bad reviews on Yelp. Those people hate happiness and joy. The staff is amazing, the baked treats are magical, and you can always burn off the calories at the gym later. Go check them out and thank me later. This place is a gem. read more

INCREDIBLE cake! Love their tart too, honestly wanted to try everything. It is tucked away so I wouldn't have noticed it if I wasn't looking for it but it is in a very calm/peaceful area. Walked with a small line but was happily greeted by an awesome young man who gave great suggestions when we were in between choices. Initially came here for the chicken Florentine crepe but added a few things as everything looked delicious. The béchamel is what made the crepe IMO but the chicken also was tender and appropriately portioned. We had fresh just out of the oven almost croissants which were warm and crispy! The almond paste was a perfect blend of spices. Also ordered a spinach feta puff pastry which I took a small bite of and it was really good. I have a pistachio cake waiting to be tried in the fridge. And I had a couple bites of the blueberry lemon cake which was good balance of blueberry and lemon flavors not overly sweet. It was a little more than I usually spend on desserts but the flavor made the cost well worth it. Light, fluffy, and packed with flavor. The employee who was handling payments was unprofessional and appeared to treat customers differently than what I would expect from a business in the Carlsbad area. I was disappointed by the interaction, especially because the rest of the staff were professional, courteous, and provided excellent service. The employees demonstrated a much higher level of customer service and professionalism. We arrived at French Pastry Cafe on a cloudy Sunday morning, and ordered at 10:57am. First one nice guy helped us with our order. Another gal came to help, so we mentioned we were being helped by him. It was unclear that they were both trying to help us. My bf went to sit at a table, to avoid the issues ordering two meals to eat here and two desserts to go. They apparently were both helping us, we finally understood. One gal said my bf stormed off, but he just walked off to get a table. My bf ordered the Orange Grand Marnier sweet crepes. About 10 minutes later, the staff came to us & told us they ran out of the custard to make this crepe and asked him what else he wanted. They did not bring a menu in hand, but he ordered the Banana Nutella Crepes. Another 5 to 8 minutes later, they again came and told us that they didn't have the ingredients to make this crepe, either. So another crepe was ordered. We waited 30 minutes for our food in total. They offered us a free dessert to accommodate our inconvenience. When we got the food, the staff lady said, and this is a quote, "You want us to refund you and take your crepes back? We can do that, too." She was most unpleasant. It is easy to be rude. It takes effort to communicate with customers and seem sympathetic. The one staff gal needs better respect and communication skills. Our food arrived at 11:28am. We will not be ordering food to eat here again. We will probably come for their $8-10 desserts and order them to go. Our food was not hot when served, but warm. read more
