This restaurant is so good we came two days in a row! Their patio is dog-friendly; they even bring a water bowl for your furry friend! The atmosphere of their patios is great. Functional and whimsical, with a variety of table sizes. The food is so so good. The small plates are well and truly small, but so worth it!! The short rib empanada and vegetable samosa are both served over a small salad and are to die for, though each order is only one of each (though the one you get is HUGE). The drink list is expansive, with unique cocktails and a great beer list. Definitely listen to the specials, today there was a short rib sandwich that was phenomenal and yesterday my wife had a special soft shell crab BLT that she gave rave reviews. A quest for wood fired pizza proved fruitless and we ended up at the Blacksmith with 2! small people in tow on a Saturday afternoon. While not having a "kids" menu- the server explained how certain plates get kidified. We opted for the steak frites and a cheeseburger and both were perfect. Our carnivorous savages ate their body weight leaving us forlorn that they didn't leave much for our "clean up crew" aka "Daddy". We enjoyed a local brew and a peach margarita which was very on point (made us wonder why we don't make more at home). The crab cake sandwich was noteworthy as was the curry chicken salad sandwich. Ordered a burger/fries ($17) and the deviled lump crab eggs ($17). The French fries were great - just like Thrashers. Everything else was fair. The eggs had little taste. Not sure what was wrong. Perhaps under seasoned. Same with burger. It just didn't have the char-grilled taste that I like and the cheese had no flavor. It was tender and cooked to a perfect medium but tasteless. This is a really kewl restaurant. From the outside it is very unassuming, which is the over all take on every thing Berlin. I always feel like I left Queens NY to lunch in the Village. The restaurant is a small footprint and if you blink, you might miss it. The crab soup is delicious. Went there during the day when they weren't crowded. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. The menu is very eclectic, but keep in mind, the place is a bit hipster, so there are thirty-seven different variations of Mac and cheese. All delicious I might add. Had a great cocktail. Probably the best gin and tonic of my life. Do ask the bartender for special drinks. Went back the next day and had another fantastic meal. First of a lifetime expierience this evening concerning negative issues encountered while dining at this establishment which I shared on social media. Upon leaving owner confronted us in an extremely defensive manner completely disregarding my request to contact me at a latter date as I did not want to make my evening worse then it already was. I'll be honest - I really wanted to love this place. Locavore, craft beers, family friendly. Unfortunately the food was a disappointment. I went here for 2 meals, and neither was much good. On the first meal I ordered a Maryland Mule as a cocktail, Caesar salad as starter, and Curry coconut shrimp over rice. The mule was not tasty at all, and I am a lover of these drinks. The Caesar sald was overly dressed, and almost tasted like a mayonnaise based salad dressing. The shrimp dish, priced at $24 was the biggest disappointment. When I picked up the fork to eat, it was literally dripping with oil. My wife said " no way"- put a drop of that on your fingers and see if it is water based sauce, vs oil. It was indeed oil. I couldn't eat much of this dish, as I didn't want to get sick. Kids had grilled cheese, which was burned on the exterior. The steak fries were too thick, and undercooked. On my second visit (like I said, I really wanted to like this place), I ordered their crab cake sandwich. really beautiful and tasty bun. Unfortunately filled with a mushy, overly tartar sauced crab cake that was ruined by the accoutrements. Not sure if it would have been that much better if it were left alone on the plate. We were happy you allowed outdoor seating and the appetizer (crispy lump crab deviled eggs) was delicious! Those are the only two things that I can say complimentary about our experience. We were seated quickly, but waited over an hour for our food. The most shocking thing was that one of the meals had a very long black hair within all of the fries! On two separate occasions, I have ordered dishes on the menu that came out missing major ingredients. Once they sent out the missing ingredient (limp asparagus that was claimed to be local, when it was completely out of season). The second time we were told the chef had chosen to not incorporate the ingredient (butternut squash) because the produce was seasonal and sub par when delivered that day. The dish was not at all what I expected and I tried to send it back to the kitchen. Our server was extremely accommodating and apologized, asking if I wanted to see a menu and pick a replacement. Unfortunately she was rebuffed by the kitchen and I was told that the squash was actually incorporated in the sauce, not "missing" like she had first been told, and as such they would not refund my order or replace it. I couldn't order anything else "unless I paid for it". Ridiculous. One way or the other we were lied to, and this put our kind server in a very awkward position, and me without dinner. So the girlfriend and I went this place based on yelp reviews. We were not disappointed. The drinks were the absolute best ive ever had bar none. I appreciate a finely made cocktail that I can not make at home. (Yes they average between 10 and 15 dollars, but they are well worth the price) (I despise paying 15 dollars for a gin and tonic that I could easily make myself.) We had two mules, which are served in solid copper mugs. They were well mixed perfectly balanced drinks that were a welcome refreshment on a hot summer day. The food lived up to the shadow of the drinks. We had the housemade burger and old bay infused brats... both of which were so amazing and mouthwatering, I had to catch a little drool.
