The best key lime crush all trip. The playground was a huge hit with my kids. They can play while you eat and it's nice to sit in the sand out back. The inside was pretty good. At the end of the meal, kids get to go in and pick their ice cream out of the freezer which they loved. Our server was great too, he gave suggestions and was super busy yet attentive. The venue has an outstanding menu with some traditional favorites, but also a lot of creative and delicious preparations. We liked that they have an outdoor playground that is fully enclosed. We had the kids eat and then they were able to go outside to play while we could stay longer inside. My daughter and I were in OC at our beach house and wanted a yummy dinner. Tailchasers is one of our fave spots. Be prepared to wait, we waited about 45 minutes but there is a cute store next door so we did some shopping. The hostess asked if we preferred inside or outside, outside of course. I had the tuna special of the night. It advertised having a charred corn and jalapeño salsa but did not come with that and although it would have benefited from the spice and acid it was still fresh and tasty. Our waiter mentioned they could do a watermelon crush and I was all about it. Our server was attentive and kind, as were all who worked here. Had about a twenty minute wait during busy season. We were seated on the deck which is dog friendly! We started off with the crab dip and kettle chips. The crab dip was really good and I couldn't get enough of the old bay kettle chips. For entrees, we ordered the nacho mama grilled cheese, soft crab BLT, smashburger, and jerk chicken sandwich. I haven't stopped thinking about the grilled cheese since I had it. One of my favorite sandwiches! My fiancé really enjoyed the soft shell crab sandwich- said it's one of the only soft shell's he's had that was properly seasoned. Everyone else in our party enjoyed their food. Our waitress, Isabella, was so sweet. The bacon on the soft crab BLT was missing but she quickly got us a plate of bacon and made sure our drink glasses were full throughout dinner. Friday evening, Labor Day Weekend Edition: We needed food fast and I was really wanting to grub on seafood since naturally, we're at the beach. With little ones, we knew we couldn't go anywhere quickly, so we ordered takeout. Calamari - Decent Cioppino - The base was well done. They did not skimp on the seafood, a little on the crostini they provided, but several pieces tasted extra "ammonia-y." I didn't finish after the second ammonia bite because I did not want to be hugging the toilet the rest of the trip (better safe than sorry). We asked to sub pesto fries instead of regular fries with our burger, but got charged for pesto fries on the side. The pesto fries were disappointing because it was (oily) pesto sauce over fries. Hubs burger was overcooked. Truffle Smashed Potatoes were not good: they were oily and had zero truffle taste and too much horseradish. I couldn't stomach finishing it. Standard pricing with other similar seafood restaurants in the area. If you're craving seafood, this isn't great, but it's not terrible either. read more

When in Maryland you have to find an authentic crab cake, of some sort. I was in north OC on July 16 and was looking for such. The hotel recommended a few spots, but the reviews weren't good. I did some more searching and found this place. It was a pretty hot day outside and I had already decided I was going to sit at the bar. But, I didn't realize the bar was outside. So, yeah, it was pretty miserable. But not the restaurants fault. I definitely had to drink my cold beer(s) fast, as they would get warm, quickly. I arrived during happy hour. $3 Yuenglings. That's a great deal. For an appetizer I got the Corn & Crab Bisque. Unfortunately, I had to send it back as it was barely warm. The air temperature was hotter than the soup. But, the problem was resolved at they re-heated it. It was good. Perfect consistency one would expect from a chowder. My main entree was the Crabcake sandwich. This was as authentic as it gets, with hardly any filler. The flavor was a little bland, though. Could have used some Old Bay or something similar. But, it was a good choice. Been going here for years. Quality of the food changed this year to absolute garbage. I know it's the common trend everywhere trying to cut corners but Tailchasers always did better and that's one of the reasons we loved it. On another note they did get rid of happy hour at the playground area. No problems there if that's what they wanted to do to help control cost but the fact that they sat us there without saying something (given this is the first year they have done this) is not right. We popped in at 2 on Sunday so I think we were between busy shifts since a bunch of staff rolled in as we were getting ready to depart, but they seemed a little short before then. It's laidback definitely. It was brutally hot so we sat inside, so not exactly great views, but nothing wrong with them either. Overall, I loved the Chicken Tacos (Los Pollos Hermanos) which had cabbage and onions that were crunchy (I appreciated the texture!) he got the smashburger. The fries were hot and salted just right. Service was a tad bit slow, then again, laid back atmosphere and between shifts on a slow Sunday afternoon, and honestly we didn't wait too long for anything. My qualms: There is a photographer who asks if you want your picture taken for a free postcard, which is super cute and nice. Our friends, a straight couple, were asked to hug and then kiss in a picture. Myself and my fiancé, a gay couple, were asked if we were brothers. When we said that we were a couple, he responded "ahh." The photographer also did not ask us to pose with a kiss like our straight friends. Which I found to be frustrating and offensive. After he printed off the pictures, he brought other prints and asked us if we wanted to purchase them for $50. They were nice pictures, but we only said yes to the pictures because it was said to be a free postcard. He then pressed us when we initially said no thank you. Odd experience. On the other hand, what really bothered us was observing two of the line cooks eating and drinking while actively preparing food. As two restaurant managers, this was highly concerning. One of them was eating a sandwich of some type and was actively eating it while preparing food. The other one was drinking and had their cup over the prep surface and was also chewing something while cooking. Not only did they eat over prepared food, they dropped crumbs onto what I assume to be a prep surface. They also never changed their gloves while eating. Eating while preparing food is already highly unsanitary, let alone to not even have the decency to change their gloves. Other than these issues, the food was good. But definitely doesn't taste as good knowing all of these things. Team members have to be held to standards or you cannot ensure safety for your guests. read more

I asked for bread but the server said they didn't have any bread... for $18 it was truly a waste of money My husband got the fish tacos and he said it was OK. We've def had better but for $13 it was a nice size of fish I got the sesame shrimp bowl and what a waste of $28. I can get a better shrimp poke bowl from a poke bowl place for $15. This is not our first time visiting Tailchasers but it's my first review with photos. We went for dinner with friends while vacationing in the area. It is a large restaurant right on the bay from the Hooked franchise. This particular restaurant has a great family area with a playground in the restaurant on the sand and large family style wooden picnic tables set around it. They really do a stellar job catering to families with kids! The kids meals come with a wide selection of ice cream pops they can end their meal with. This is always a hit and such a smart idea!! You will see many kids running around the playground with blue and red lips from their ice pops! This allows the adults to relax and enjoy our food and drinks which we did. Love the crushed ice touch but felt while fresh juice for sure, the cocktails lacked any true taste of liquor which was a disappointment to me. We got a range of food- from raw oysters (so fresh) to soups, appetizers, and entrees. Most of us enjoyed our food. Their cream of crab is quite good! My husband felt they were heavy handed on the cumin in his beans for his salmon entree. Overall a solid choice for lunch or dinner with a great kids area to play on. read more

ATMOSPHERE: The two-level restaurant has a few indoor seats but the majority are outdoor on their spacious patios. They also have a "beach" area with a sand floor and kids playground. All offer nice views of the inlet the restaurant sits along. MENU: Bar-style apps, salads, seafood, burgers, ribs, fish, raw bar and desserts. BEVERAGE: Classic OC Crush - $9.00 I've seen these on other menus and apparently the drink was created in Ocean City, so when in Rome... But you don't have to twist my arm when it comes to a vodka-based cocktail! Crushed ice, orange juice or soda and vodka made for the perfect lunch quencher. FOOD: Crab Bisque - $9.00 Thick, creamy and actually with detectable crab meat. Only one size was available but it's a generously-sized cup. Highly recommended! Fish & Chips - $24.00 I was craving this so it hit the spot and then some. The two big pieces of fish were moist and deep-fried perfectly. Fries were plentiful and seasoned with Old Bay but could've been a bit crispier. The tartar sauce was one of the best I've had. DESSERT: Key Lime Pie - $9.00 I'm not a dessert person but the spouse is. Intense lime-flavor, buttery crust but too sweet for me. The spouse commented that it was better than Kermit's in Key West. SERVICE: We walked in at off-peak time (Monday around 1:30pm) and were greeted and seated immediately to a high top on the patio. I tend to have higher expectations with restaurants with good Yelp reviews. This restaurant didn't disappoint. The staff was friendly and helpful the entire time we were there. We sat upstairs overlooking the water ( canal inlet) We did have an amazing view! We did eat around 5pm and they did have a happy hour menu. The prices were a few dollars less than the regular menu. Happy hours were 3pm-6pm. Our server was very knowledgeable and helped me make some good food selections. They did have a menu that was coded with gluten friendly options that made it so easy to order. They even had a gluten friendly brownie dessert. I ordered the bisque soup and nachos. Holy moly the nachos portions were huge! The chorizo had an amazing sweet taste and the chips were lightweight and so tasty. I felt the prices were reasonable. I realized after I got back to the resort that I had left my visor at the restaurant. It has a ton of sentimental value. I called but the young lady that answered the phone said she looked but couldn't find it. I decided to go to the restaurant and our server remembered finding the hat. They did find it and I was so happy and grateful. Kudus to the staff for helping me retrieve. They did say they looked through the garbage too.
