Great staff and very good food. There is currently a shortage on crabs so many of their dishes were altered due to this BUT the substitutions worked. I enjoyed the shrimp bisque, shrimp red curry and the grilled pork belly. My wife enjoyed the crab deviled eggs but found the farfalle a little flat. I am sure the crab would have enhanced this dish tremendously. If you are in Berlin, stop by for a taste. read more

This place was amazing, accept the service left a little to be desired. I found this place on yelp while traveling down to Virginia and OC MD with my girlfriend. We stopped in for dinner since it was about the halfway point. The exterior, interior and back deck are gorgeous. The food was amazing and makes me wish I lived close to here. The waitress, however, was not fully up to par. She was not efficient in waiting on all her tables at once. Instead of checking in with us while passing to go to her other tables or bringing us drinks while passing, she could only do one table at a time. It was not a big deal but did leave us lagging a little more than we had liked. We also had to track her down to get and pay our bill. Another BONUS is that they purchase all there product locally and have a large chalk board listing all of their suppliers. It was a near touch. read more

I have to give them credit - it's rare that restaurants give so much thought to decent vegetable dishes. From the asparagus salad with olives and feta to the vegetable "charcuterie," the veggies made the meal. I could have eaten the beluga lentils and goat cheese all day! And the caponata was really delicious. That said, the Thai meatballs and the pork belly were also good. :) But I was happy to eat at a place that made vegetables an important and interesting part of the meal! Great set-up for outdoor dining, even in the winter! We enjoyed the really nice porch, which is enclosed and has heaters. One of our entrees was a show-stopper, and the other was meh -- not very hot, and bland. The server was delightful, and also had an overcharge on the bill and couldn't be found to fix it. The Mac is SO mediocre, actually just Velvetta from box! Pulled pork just thrown on top, very little flavor no Barbq sauce, I asked for some and that was so nasty do not get their barbecue sauce, if that's what it is, it was orange and taste like some kind of Curie season and mustard! Horrible! The crab cake was great although they sit everything atop of some form of salad!?! That was, as was the Pork Belly app, and that wasn't good, just fried fat, and I LOVE BACON!!! But Not this!!! The burger was ok, nothing to write home about, two party's, melted cheese on both, toasted bun, maybe an 7 or 8 out of 10! This has been our go to place in Berlin for quite a few years. Not that the food is always great but they try at least to have new, different, exciting items. However this past Saturday we arrived and were courteously shown to a table, given menus and the beverage list. And then never saw anyone again. We waited and waited as servers kept passing us by with not so much as a glance. The hostess was busy talking with several other employees near the door and never once checked to see if we were okay. As we were leaving I told them that we had not received any service. They looked shocked but no one made a move to try and get us to stay. I've been coming to Blacksmith since it opened and the past few times we've been in have been underwhelming but I've been willing to give them the benefit of the doubt given my previous experiences had been so exceptional. However, today's experience was abysmal. It started with waiting an hour to be seated as a two top when the hostess told us it would be 20 minutes. I get it - they are under staffed, it's a holiday weekend, the weather is beautiful, etc. Once we were seated we were hangry but hopeful that the meal would more than make up for the long wait, and boy, were we wrong. We orderEd the Bahn Mi and an Oyster Po Boy. The meat on the Bahn Mi tasted like it had been cooked hours ago and the oysters on the Po Boy were tough and Luke warm at best. Still, we tried to stay positive until we waited over 20 minutes for the server to bring the check so we could pay. The servers displayed absolutely no hustle during the rush or while we were being served. Over two hours spent at Blacksmith today and one of the worst dining experiences of my life. We are local and want to support local, but won't be back to the Blacksmith. read more

Ok. I have to be a bit angry here. But first the good stuff. There was a wait and it was crowded but the bartender, didn't catch his name, was great. The drinks were great as well. The atmosphere is cool and so is the ceiling. Now the bad. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner. We ordered the brie eggplant starter and the mushroom pasta and shrimp/crab pasta meals. Sorry I don't remember the names. We watched as people who showed up 10, 15, and 20 minutes after us got seated served and left while we waited for this brie dish. Finally after waiting 40 minutes it arrived. All it was was some brie cheese with some nuts on it, warmed up and served with a side of grapes and what looks to be a small salad. No it wasn't worth the wait. Then we were told that our order must have been over looked. Don't pass blame, you clearly did not check on us because if you did, this wouldn't have happened. Then finally the main corse came out. It wasn't worth the wait. At all. Not even kinda good. $55 of bland pasta. There was nothing memorable about any of it other than the annoying ass wait for food that takes 13 minutes to make. But they did try to make it up to us with a free drink. I went there to have lunch. I ordered burger and fry flounder. The burger was good, not too dry, not too much fat. The fry flounder cooked just right! Both of them came with fries and salad. The food was worth 4 stars. Our server was worth 4 stars. But we waited outside by the "please wait to be seated" sign for at least 10 minutes before anyone came outside to seat us. While dining we saw other people come and wait to be seated to eventually just leave. When we were trying to leave we were told we had to leave through the exit door with no further explanation (from the same person who sat us). She seriously just walked away after barking at us. We had to wander to find said exit door. My husband said (not unkindly) to a male server who was ignoring our plight to leave that marking the exit would be helpful. His comment was ignored. I applaud efforts to stop the spread of Covid; I do not applaud an unmanned hostess station and unspoken, unclear rules for egress that leave me feeling confused and unwelcome. read more

Last night my brother-in-law and his wife, my husband and I ate here once again for about the 5th time since Grill Smith has been open. We were extremely pleased that they are taking EVERY precaution to insure safety during this pandemic. The hostess took our temperatures as soon as we arrived and asked us to sanitize our hands. All waitstaff wore masks and we were required to wear them as we walked to our table. Social distancing is in place , all tables are outside and all laminated menus are sanitized before use. Once again, our meals were delicious! My only complaint is they substituted peas for the butternut squash in the entree I chose without mentioning it. That's a big no no but nonetheless the meal was still delicious! Would highly recommend. read more

It has great food and a great atmosphere to dine in! We ordered off of their lunch menu, and all of us ordered something different; everything was delicious! I had the Crabcake sandwich, which was good. My mom had fish tacos which were excellent, my sister had their burger (which is amazing!!) and also ordered drinks. They are so unique they were so tasty. I even spilled my drink and the waitress got me another replacement free of charge. The only possible downside to their lunch menu is that the almost all of our entrees only came with a sandwich and no side, except for the Crabcake sandwich that came with 5 steak fries. It just needed something else to go with it. Otherwise this place is amazing!! It's also a real short walk to the town of Berlin so walking around afterwards was nice to explore. The crab cake was soggy and undercooked and both it and the fries was EXTREMELY SALTY! And I typically like salt but this was way over the top.
