We had a bit of a small wait and there's some benches out front to wait but not too much shade. Unfortunately, there's no way to go explore or sit in your car since they don't text you to notify you. They only come out the waiting area to call your name. Small draft list but they do have cocktails which it seemed like most people ordered. We had the Crispy Lump Crab Deviled Eggs which were very good but they do only come with 3 so quite pricey for the quantity. For our entrees, we ordered the Famous Plany X Crab Cake Sandwich and the Eastern Shore Bahn Mi. Both were very good and great flavors. The fries that came with the Crab cake sandwich were alright, they weren't crispy at all. My Bahn mi came with old bag chips which were good. Overral good food and decent service. I just need to say that the crab cakes here are A MA Z I M G. WOW. Chunks and flashes of crab throughout. WOW. Okay so back to the full review... The staff was friendly and welcoming which I loved. As far as covid, outside seating is permitted only and ask staff are wearing masks and gloves. The menu is a bit pricey but worth it. The food was really good, yes I raved about the crab cakes in the first line lol but honestly the red curry was surprisingly tasty and the sea bass and crab large plate was super flavorful and juicy. The only reason I won't give a full 5-star is because there are limited options fir those who don't eat dairy. I really wanted some of the signature dishes but they all had some type of cream or cheese. There are a couple of options for vegans but they're randomly paired with creamy grits for example which ya know, vegans can't eat lol. Delicious meal for dinner consisting of Short Ribs with Grits, Steak Frites & House Cheeseburger. Our waitress, though busy, treated us with importance, she explained all the evening specials with great details and everything sounded wonderful. I inquired about two items & decided on the short ribs, but the waitress honestly revealed there would be a little fatty spot, but her favorite meal. I did find a couple fatty spots which I easily removed & had plenty of tender meat that was very filling & delicious. We were seated in the tented outdoor deck which was nice atmosphere, but could have been little warmer. We ordered the nashville chicken appetizer, curried chicken salad, and a daily special of soft shell BLT with fries. Our favorite was the nashville chicken- it was juicy and not too spicy. The chicken salad was good, although personally it became a little one toned with the curried flavor halfway through. The soft shell BLT was delicious but the fries were a miss- too few of them and not crispy. Overall this was still a great meal. Service was fine, vibes are chill for a weekday lunch. This was our second visit to Blacksmith and probably our last. The server was excellent and very knowledgeable. The crab bisque was very good as were the deviled eggs. However it went downhill from there. My husband ordered the steak frites, which was little more than flank steak on a bed of French fries. Very disappointing. We were hoping for a quiet anniversary dinner but not long into our meal a mother and a 4 year old was seated right next to us in a mostly empty restaurant. That was followed by another family with several small children right on the other side of us. With this it was time for us to leave without coffee and dessert. Very disappointing. read more

I can give Blacksmith 5 stars they deserve! I Had lunch at Blacksmith today. Everything was perfect and they have definitely redeemed themselves since my visit in January. The 'famous house burger" on the toasted brioche bun, with house sauce, and homemade pickles rocked!! The fresh beach fries tasted of summer with a splash of malted vinegar. The service was outstanding. My friend got the cod fish tacos, they were out of rockfish, and kept saying how fresh the fish, cilantro, and crema tasted. A wonderful experience from start to finish. Jeanette seated us and within 5 minutes we were great pals. She is so warm and personable, and readily picked up on my husbands accent ! First time here was for lunch. We enjoyed our food! We returned a second time for dinner and were very disappointed. The crab bisque soup was gray in color and so thick it wouldn't fall off the spoon. We ordered crab stuffed rock fish. The fish was over cooked and luke to stone cold in temperature. The asparagus underneath looked old. The braised shirt ribs with shrimp also was over cooked and luke warm. We ordered bread that you pay extra for and it was so salty with old tasting garlic seasoning couldn't eat it. Wait staff was good and apologetic for our food. Without prompting the waitress took the soup off our bill and only charged us 50% discount on both entrees after manager approval. We will think twice before we return. read more

The blacksmith restaurant in Berlin is one of our Ocean City area favorites. They have something for everyone ,including a very nice vegetarian menu. It's a great place to take visitors because everyone will have a nice selection of items to choose from, and they be very happy with their meal there. We usually order their vegetarian selections, but I've also had their crabcake, which is the best restaurant crabcake that I've had in Ocean City. I pretty much rate that crabcake up with the Captains Galley, which is my go to favorite carryout crabcake in Ocean City. The food was really good, we had different dishes, of which are worth recommending the Cheesesteak, the samosa and the Empanada. We also Tried local beers, we really liked the coffee milk stout. Prices were reasonable and in line with the food quality. What a great find on an unassuming road in an unassuming part of the bay area. One things that a good seafood restaurant needs to be on the water, but if you are in the Bay Area, there is always water not too far a drive away. After seeing some good reviews on Yelp I brought the family here for Mother's Day! My family, being originally from "the South" really enjoy a good fried fish. We were very pleased with the MASSIVE fish tacos (you need a fork....they are no joke)! We also split the Cioppino, because, one must, and an assortment of oysters (grilled and raw), grilled oysters and a grilled white fish. Everything came out piping hot and wonderfully fresh. The place was packed (another good sign) but it also gets a bit loud and crowded so don't come her for an intimate conversation, service needs to be flagged down since they are very busy, and there are too few bathrooms. An eclectic menu with a varied selection for almost any palette. I usually just get a burger, if I have never been to a restaurant. But today went right in for the Scrapple and Pork Belly Bahn Mi.....it wasn't a hard decision. Unique and delicious! Pork was cooked perfectly and they made the fat...delicious! Scrapple was superb...yes, superb! Neither got lost in the sandwich and retained their own flavors! My better half went for the Fried Chicken Sandwich. It was perfectly fried and the chicken was moist and delicious. Only thing we felt lacking was some flavor. The chicken was very "bland", not even a chicken flavor. Kinda weird, right? My boyfriend and I were visiting Ocean City and read about checking out nearby Berlin while we were there (it was also on the way back from Assateague Island where we saw the horses!). Downtown Berlin is pretty small, but we were looking for a place with outdoor seating and a good menu. Blacksmith was perfect! It has its own parking lot and a very cute roofed outdoor deck. We waited for about 5 minutes since it was pretty popular (Saturday afternoon). It's clear that they take COVID and sanitation seriously, requiring masks and also have sanitizer for everyone to use upon entrance. And they take your temperature as well. The deck seemed relatively newly built (not sure if it was because of COVID), but it was chic with cute decor. The menu looked really tasty with more things that we wanted to try than we could physically eat. The specials were also enticing! They had a pretty unique list of drinks, and I loved that they had virgin mojitos. Perfect for a refreshing Saturday afternoon. I pegged this place as having traditional American food, but I loved seeing some Asian inspiration on the menu! We started with pork belly Killer Tacos as an appetizer (great price for these). Delicious! Then my boyfriend got the soft-shell crab burger special (never had anything like this before, so it was fun to try something new). I had to go for the Eastern Short banh-mi, which I loved. It was a large portion, so I had enough to bring home for the next day's lunch. We sat outdoors on their spacious deck. Even though 75% indoor dining has been approved Blacksmith has decided to offer outdoor only. I assume that will change with the advent of colder weather. Not being real hungry I decided on getting the small plate version of their crab cakes. It was a single crab cake served with a sauce over a bed of salad greens. The cake was loaded with fresh sweet crab meat. Delicious. Prices are fair with a double hamburger going for $11. More innovative fare of course the price increases. We planned a trip to see the horses at both Chincoteague and Assateague state park and found that Berlin was a nice home base. As my previous review indicated we really enjoyed Blacksmith and nothing has changed that. We actually ended up eating here for three of the nights we stayed in Berlin. The first night, my wife and I both got the soft shell crab special. Fried soft shell crab over I nice tomato based broth with lots of vegetables. We both enjoyed it. The crab wasn't overly fried and tasted delicious. The broth was a great compliment to the crab and surprisingly didn't make it soggy. On the second night, I had the vegetarian sausage sandwich. Don't find that too often so I gave it a try. It was really good. Excellent sauce and grilled vegetables on top. Fries were good. My wife had the shrimp risotto. Large shrimp over a basil and cheese risotto. Normally my wife doesn't like risotto, but she loved this. I was able to sample her dish and it indeed was delicious. The shrimp were large and cook perfectly and the risotto was nice and creamy. On the third night I had the Seabass special and my wife had the Hand-cut Pappardelle Pasta with Jumbo Shrimp. The bass had an interesting thin cut potato base with asparagus in a Beurre Blanc sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly and I couldn't get enough of the sauce. I was such a delicious meal. My wife again loved her meal also. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the shrimp was once again great. I did sample hers again and saw why she liked it so much. The service was again top notch. The servers we had were extremely pleasant and helpful. I'm not sure when, if ever, I'll get back to Berlin and Blacksmith, but I hope some day to do so. read more
