Three stars might even be a little generous but I have nothing but respect for people who open up restaurants and bakeries like this. The reason I gave it three stars is the bread was disappointing. I purchased several croissants, chocolate croissants, mini crumb cakes, and bread. I thought the croissants were good, nothing special but definitely good. The crumb cakes were the best thing I ate by far. Very sweet and delicious. The bread was too hard and not nearly flavorful enough. I've had bread from bakeries on Arthur ave in the Bronx and it was amazing. This was not that. I would def give another chance but was def unimpressed with the first visit. Also didn't like that there weren't prices on the items. I like to know how much everything is and not play guessing games or even have to ask. read more

Blacksmith Bread's is such a great addition to the local neighborhood. I have been there several times and tried a variety of their items including their chocolate croissant, plain croissant, brioche, muffins and sandwiches. Everything is incredibly fresh and I have yet to taste something there I didn't thoroughly enjoy. The staff is super friendly, especially the owner who always remembers me when I go in there and takes time to say hello even when he is busy. Blink and you may miss the store, however. I drove by it and then finally just parked my car and walked to find it. It's next to a store called "Reign" which is highly visible. The place can be jam packed though, so be warned that you may have to wait a little while at peak hours. read more

Fantastic bread!!! The best! I took off one star due to the excessive wait being not busy & not packaging all of my individual brown bagged items into one large carry bag. It was a balancing act with various items and a hot coffee in tow. Hopefully when i return they will have some nice brown bags with handles for specific situations. read more

People who won't touch gluten* with a ten-foot pole have been known to risk it all for a bite (often several bites...or even ALL THE BITES!) of whatever Blacksmith's is serving that day. THAT'S how good this place is. LOVE the Hummus Sandwich (oops is that drool on my screen?) and my son loves every pastry possible plus "the flat water in the blue bottle." Superb croissants and baguette! So delighted to have a great bakery and cafe on our island. Hands down the best bread and baked goods. I just wish they would separate the line for food orders and bakery. Some really tasty offerings in the West End! The menu is always different and there is way more to this place than just bread. The savory dishes are complex and super flavorful. It's great for breakfast or lunch so give it a try. Though I am loyal to the bacon egg and cheese on the best homemade English muffin you will ever have, try out any specials on offer--you won't be disappointed. The setting is also super cute and tre "Brooklyn" I guess. The best part though is the front of the house here can handle crowds (taco pop up!) and the unexpected without becoming condescending or confused. I guess they can go off script better than some other places that just don't know what to do if you come in on the fly. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the croissants as they were a bit too decadent for my liking in the a.m. (and I know croissants are just decadent bc well they're croissants, but for me in the a.m. these were a bit much on the butter dense factor).
