After a day of being a tour guide with my father who was visiting NYC after leaving here some years ago, we were rather hungry and decided to pop into the Blaggard's Restaurant and Bar for a bite to eat. I had never been here before so was excited about the chance to try a new place in my dining and photo adventures. It was early in the afternoon and not quite Happy Hour yet so there was no real crowd to contend with. The bar is rather spacious with the bar on the left side of the space and sizable booths on the right side with other tables in between them. The bar goes from close to the entrance to almost the full end of the space. There are plenty of seats there if you like sitting at the bar and several televisions offering up the latest sports happenings. They even had televisions over the booths which was nice in the event you wish to have something else broadcast on the set while you and friends are there. As this was an eating mission more than a drinking one we sat in one of the booths and ordered up. Pop had a Shepard's Pie which he said he hasn't seen yet down south while I had a buffalo chicken sandwich. We started with an order of sausage quesadillas which were very nice. He liked the SP and I did like the buffalo chicken sandwich which I was surprised was not breaded like most places serve it up. Just a nice piece of chicken with the spices and the bleu cheese. It came with fries which there could have been more of but it wasn't a large issue at the end of the day. For dessert we shared an order of a tiramasu since it came out like a piece of pie as opposed to being in a cup or bowl. Overall quite satisfying and I'd go there again if nearby and looking for a place to hang. Pricewise this was on point with the overall region but won't break the wallet. I don't know how the higher end spirits at the bar would be if that's what you stop in for but they are likely the same as other places like this in the immediate region. Friday night and the lights are low / Looking out for a place to go. Is Blaggard's that place? But what do you like? Dim lighting. Old-world charming architecture. Bros lining the bar stools. Extremely loud inside. Currency from all over taped along the liquor shelves. Profanity etched into the restroom glass. TVs showing American Ninja Warrior. Makes you want to push the onion rings aside and do curls under the bar. Off to our left an older dude with a lady companion 1/3 his age giggling while drumming her fingernails on his arm. He jokes that he is JP Morgan and the bartender who genuinely believed him (bless his heart), unaware of Mr. Morgan's death now nearly 100 years ago. I wanted a bar menu. My friend said this isn't the kind of place that has such. I later did see one, but it was a cheaply made list generated in Notepad and slid into a plastic table tent. The bartender was savvy, cooler than himself and fortunately handsome with a flair for making drinks strong and appetizing. My rum & pineapple was a whole lot of rum and a drizzle of pineapple--got me to the place I needed to be fast on a Friday night. He didn't offer a goodbye but another, taller, clean-shaven bartender took over with half the panache as bartender uno but twice the coverage. It was easy to get his attention to give us our check, and just as easy to get the card rung. There must be a correlation between speed of credit card being run and higher tips. Our hotel gave us drink vouchers for Blaggards Pub so we came two nights in a row. The pub itself is quite nice, lots of seating, and very quaint. Service the first night was pretty much terrible. It was like once the girls realized we had drink vouchers they couldn't be bothered with us, even though we had planned on ordering dinner. We'd have to flag them down to get service and we eventually said screw it and started ordering drinks directly from the bartender. We shared an order of the calamari which was pretty good but again we couldn't get any service so after that we ended up leaving to get food elsewhere. Second night (Sunday) we came in around 7:50 sat at the bar & ordered 2 drinks and asked to see the menu. A minute or two later the bartender came up and said the kitchen was closed, they close at 8 pm Sunday nights...that was so bizarre to me since the pub itself was open until 4 a.m. so we ended up having our few drink vouchers and leaving. Terrible service for the bar tender. I was not satisfied with rose wine so asked for something different. Told him I would pay for both. He told me to leave and not come back since this was the second time I was not happy with the wine. Meanwhile I was a consistent customer pre covid and would try to support after when they open even when it was always empty. Not sure long this place will stay in business but it looks not long, went next door to the westbury and got great service and decent wine. Not sure why the bar tender takes feedback so personal. Found myself in this Irish pub for a little lunch and ended up having 2 beers! I sat at the bar area because it had a "Cheers" feeling to it! I'm glad that I did. Music was jamming throughout the speakers - not too loud where you couldn't have a conversation but just loud enough to sing along if you wanted to. Blaggard's is a spacious Irish pub that is a nice spot to meet for a drink after work. I met a friend here around 6:00 on a Wednesday evening and we were able to grab seats at the bar. There were plenty of long tables and smaller tables available when I arrived. By the time we left a few hours later, many of the tables were full but it wasn't obnoxiously packed by any means. Overall it was a pretty standard bar experience, with mostly standard beers on tap. Prices are what you'd expect for the area at $7 per beer. read more

Super unsanitary. My friends and I came in the other night for a beer and food. We ordered the beer and I checked in on Yelp. That's when I saw two stars and was like 'uh uh. We ain't orderin food'! So, we sat there drinking our beers when I noticed a bottle of windex on display near the sitting area (I posted a pic in this post). Not only is it a poor display of care it's also unsanitary to have cleaning products sitting within view of patrons. Needless to say we didn't order food but we did finish our drinks. But hold on! The best is to come! While signing the check a waitress walked by the windex and rag, she picked up the rag, wipes her shoe with it and put it back. She didn't even take it with her!!!!!! I highly recommend the truffle mushroom flatbread (but only if you're a fan of goat cheese and spinach as those are the main ingredients). The house nachos were amazing too! I been meaning to come to Blaggards Pub for free poker through the New York Free Poker group. I read all the reviews including one from a member of the group who gave the establishment a negative review due through issues with service, food and Management. I came to the bar with an open mind and I found the bar to be charming in decor and overall design. I like the long high top tables by the front door which are good for people watching and have a beer. It had some nooks and spaces to the side with tables which I found very private and appealing. The bar was long with plenty of HD TVs a big plus with me. I like long bars. I like to sit with some space between guests at the bar area when I watch sports. This is a good thing. Since I was there to play poker, I did not sit at the bar, but at the poker tables. As time when by, I did not find this gin joint to be as cozy or quaint as Irish Bars that I frequent. I found the place to be bright with lights on high. Now the poker event was held in the back of the restaurant. I am sure they have different dimmers or switches for lights in different parts of the restaurant. The brightness made the place feel cold in appearance. The warm feeling that decent lighting makes just misses the mark at Blaggards Pub. Food. One of the girls at my table ordered penne ala vodka. Simple dish to make but when asked "how was it" she stated that it tasted like Mac & Cheese. She did not say it was bad or good just that it tasted like Mac & Cheese. Made me not want to order food. Drinks. Someone at the table had several Chocolate Martini's and they commented after each one and stated that each tasted differently. One better than the other and they were not all consistent in flavor. I had a Bud Light. When I ordered, the Bartender told me we don't sell Bud Light. Before I could say "that's strange" he realize that they did. I think he was new. No biggie, but when I gave him my card to pay, he quickly stated I can't do this for one beer and one water. This annoyed me. When I come to these events I drink several beers and buy some friends a couple more. I like running bar tabs unfortunately. After I smooth things over, that I was going to spent money, he became a happy camper. Management. I saw some Management personnel walk in with some letters or mail into the Bar. He definitely was in charged as he was giving orders and walking around the place like he own the place. He probably did. I was not expecting Barry Fitzgerald in The Quiet Man but have a smile on your face dude. He walked around this gin joint with a puss on his face like why I'm I here. The first thing I learned in Restaurant Management 101 was the place takes on the energy and feeling of Leadership. If you walk around in a bad mood it rubs off on your employees and guests. Making guests feel uncomfortable makes guests not want to come back. Sorry dude. Overall. This place was just an ahhhh I seen better. If this was the only place in town, you have no choice. Fortunately, I do have choices and can go somewhere else. Running a business is hard work, but when I don't feel comfortable in a place or made to feel uncomfortable in a place it is Leaderships responsibility to fix. Read your reviews. A couple friends and I just wandered in last Friday. It wasn't overly crowded or loud. The waitress let us sit where ever we liked. It's a bar so they had a pretty large assortment of beers. They had some solid food options, we got a burger, calamari, nachos, and jalapeno poppers. All of it came out fast and at the same time. I'm pulling a star or two because the service was slightly inattentive. We were missing condiments and it took a while to flag a waitress down. Also, at the end of the night our tab was slightly incorrect. No big deal. We explained the discrepancy to the waitress and were on our way after a solid meal and great conversation. Stopped in the Sunday before St. Patrick's Day for a beer and a bite. The place is really large and I bet it's really hopping today (now being St. Patty's). There are quite a few TVs and it is really good spot to watch just about any game. I ordered the popcorn chicken, which was quite good. I really enjoyed the chipotle dipping sauce. The beer selection isn't terribly vast, but there is a decent variety. They seem to take care of their lines because none of the beers we had were skunk as they often are in so many bars. We sat at the bar and were taken care of by Mike. Really friendly guy and very attentive. I was early for my volunteer shift covering a reception desk even after running errands and grabbing a second lunch. Rather than go to a bar that I was familiar with, I decided to go to one that was on the same block as the place I volunteer at, which was a place I had never tried even though I passed it weekly. The front windows were open on to the sidewalk as it is a beautiful day, not too hot, not too cold. Since it was nearing the end of lunch, the bar wasn't too packed or too noisy but still had a decent amount of people for the time of day. I get in and take a seat at the bar. After about 5 minutes I get the bartender to notice me. I order a Bacardi and Coke. The drink was served in a wine glass but it had a good amount of alcohol in it. $7.50 I know they used to have a lunch special of certain lunch deals with two drinks but i no longer see that posted. read more

Came for lunch on the Friday after xmas, so the place was dead. Bar service was average to below average (took a bit to get menus and took even longer to get ketchup. Mayo never showed despite asking twice). Shepards pie needs improvement. Way too soupy. The group I was with said their chicken burger and steak were both delicious. Like most NYC restaurants the service was slow, 2 wait staff in a mostly empty place. I was really worried when we got our calamari appetizer. Obviously frozen, tough, chewy, barely battered, soggy and awful. Luckily they did a much better job with the entrees. I never expected the door man of an Irish Pub to be so picky of whom he let in - but this was the case. My party was let in immediately as we approached; to the disappointment of the far more served party in front of us. We were promptly seated and I must say that as I didn't like the atmosphere nor the décor of this place - it had great service. The food was quite bland and overpriced, and servings were huge but again the staff made up for it. They were super nice and served with a smile. If I lived in the area, I'm pretty sure this place would be my hangout. The pricing was good, but it was our bartender, Tommy, who made my wife and I feel like we were regulars. When he heard that it was my wife's birthday, he mixed us up a complementary "strawberry cheesecake" shot, which was pretty tasty. We had eaten an excessive amount of pizza earlier in the day, so we just had a snack here -- onion rings made with sweet Vidalia onions, which were yummy. We were here on St Patrick's. We got seated on the back. It was pretty crowded there We had a few pints of Guinness, Irish car bombs and a corn beef with cabbage, loaded fries (were very tasty). The amazing thin is they have a juke box, we put on our fav songs and kept the party going. The waitress was very helpful and nice, she got us green bids, said we deserved it. This is an update to my previous 1-star review - which you should read. I basically wrote that there is absolutely nothing 5-star about Blaggards (in March 2009). Today (August 2009), I received a Yelp message from an Eamonn L. saying "As a reviewer, you're an idiot." Yes, I was shocked, too. So, I looked up Eamonn's profile and of course, no picture, 2 5-star reviews of Blaggard's and 1 negative 1-star review of Galway Hooker (located across the street from Blaggards). Clearly, this guy works or owns Blaggard's. Maybe instead of harassing Yelpers, he should focus his energy on his bar and customer service training. The guy at the door charged me $10 bucks to get in because I got there 5 minutes after 10pm. I asked why and he said because there's a party in there from 10-whenever. It was super quiet and dead inside but I paid anyway because my friends were in there already and I didn't want to be a party pooper. We decided to leave and go somewhere else so I asked the guy to give me a refund considering I was in there for literally 15 minutes and he denied me, just being an asshole about it. DON'T COME TO THIS LAME ASS BAR!! Don't ever come here. It's a wack and lame ass bar that tries to charge you $10. Even cool bars won't charge you a cover to get in. read more
