Visited 2/23/26. Had a blast at John Sullivan's! Came here the day after a major blizzard and being from out of state we were so relieved that it was open. Our waiter was super flexible and took our random asks (side of carrots and celery to go with our chicken tenders, side of mashed potatoes and gravy) in stride. Okay this place is all sorts of interesting. The good thing is that the food is amazing and affordable. It also at a great location, far away enough from Times Square / Penn Station that you aren't in the thick of it, but still accessible. I also really like the vibes of this place being kind of a cop bar. However, they really need to invest in some upgrades. 3 of the TVs don't seem to work all the time, and some of them are just grainy, so not the best for watching sports. I also don't know what is it about this place, but I have seen 2 bar fights break out here. I don't know why people would start fight with so many off duty cops around (and they clean up and get rid of the problem), but it just happens. read more

Without a doubt, one of my favorite places to stop at for food and drink before I go catch a game at the garden. There's plenty of parking at the garages up and down the street and with enough time you might be able to find an off street parking spot. You just have to be patient and circle the. Service is great here but some of the familiar faces behind the bar have been since moved on, but the new folks I have just picked up and kept moving forward. Really clean, spot, good music, and plenty of sports on the TVs if you want to catch some soccer or anything else that's going on. Definitely appreciate the food here, it's not a massive menu but what they do they do it well. Not super greasy but just hits the spot. Went there before a Springsteen concert as it's close to MSG. Less Irish Pub than dive bar for our visit. Food was pretty good and reasonably priced. Beer was good, but my wife's cocktail (Cosmo) was from a mix and pretty bad. Bartender/Waitress was friendly and very attentive. Definitely not up to the standard of most of the other Irish bars I've been to in the city. We'll probably opt for giving a different one a try next time. read more

I came to get a drink but was only able to use Apple Pay and my phone battery had died. So Upon arriving I greeted the bartender and asked if they would be able to help me with charging my phone. The bartender was incredibly rude and proceeded to tell me I was rude for asking for a charger and left. Even if they had one, I was no longer interested in being served by him. We all have our bad days but this bartender and encounter overall was very unnecessary. read more

The service here is terrible, and the bartender is cold-hearted. As a person in distress tonight, sympathy and empathy are not expected, but reasonable understanding to help within the parameters is not that much of an ask. Coming into the pub, I had a severe stomachache that required immediate bathroom usage. A paying customer-only policy is perfectly reasonable for an operating restaurant to have. That's not a problem. Can I buy a drink after I use the bathroom? The answer was no, which is also what I suppose I can understand if they are afraid that I just don't end up paying for anything afterward. That is not a problem. What is a problem is that the bartender tried to draw out this process as long as possible. A simple "how about a beer? X dollars" would have been a short and sweet conversation that meets the rules of the house and allowed a distressed person to seek comfort as soon as possible. But instead, we had a completely unnecessary unproductive dialogue that was drawn out for several minutes. As an individual with Yelp reviews biased positively to support local restaurants, it is rare (less than 5%) that I give strictly negative reviews. House rules are understandable and I would not be leaving this review in that case, but it is the fact that the bartender actively made the situation more miserable that I feel the need to write this. Four of us stopped in here for a beer before going to a broadway show. We went downstairs to the pub and found a table. It was fairly crowded but we got served fairly quickly. It is a pretty cool place. We didn't eat there so I cannot comment on the food. It is a very touristy spot but that is to be expected as it is right off from Times square. Back in town on business and dropped in at John Sullivan's as it is near my hotel (Renaissance Mid-town). Sat down at the bar and the bartender (don't know his name) walked up and greeted me by name. He could not remember the exact beer, but knew it was a local IPA. I am not a regular, but have been to this bar three times in as many months. Anytime a bartender is on the job like that, I will be a repeat customer. The beer was cold. The place was clean. The prices were fair...for NYC. Highly recommend. read more

Solid option for lunch in NYC. My NYC office is right across the street and we came here for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. Nice lunch menu with about 10 choices for $10 which is a good deal for the city. I got the cheeseburger which came with fries. Tasty burger and decent fries. My co-worker got the Coffee Rub Burger which he said was okay. Service downstairs around bar was... average at best. The server legit walked away from table as my friend was finishing his order. The waiter that worked here last night was crazy rude, at first I thought it was me but the people around us said the same thing. I always try to imagine someone else's point of view, so maybe his whole family was murdered and he decided to brave and still come into work, and the shock is what made him so rude, or maybe this was one of those themed bars where the staff is rude to you on purpose. We were heading to the U2 concert at Madison Square Garden, and were looking for a place nearby to have a casual dinner and a couple of drinks before the concert. We saw the 4 star Yelp listing, and decided to give it a try. It was fairly empty late Saturday afternoon, and we were seated at a small table near the front. It was extremely hot outside, and the A/C was working well enough to keep it cool inside. We noted the list of all-day drink specials outside and on the blackboard near the bar, so we ordered a couple of Founders IPAs for $4 each. They were pretty good. We ordered burgers - he ordered a burger with cheddar and mushrooms, medium, and I ordered a burger with blue cheese - well done. When the burgers came out about 10 minutes later, they were both cooked to medium, but since I didn't notice until I took a bite, it tasted pretty good (and was not too red inside) so I ate it anyway. Had I noticed before I bit into it, I would have sent it back. (For strictly food safety issues, I normally NEVER eat burgers cooked less than well done.) Fries were pretty good - just your average fries, but hot and fresh. Lettuce, tomato, onion and a pickle wedge topped off the plate - and it was just exactly what we expected from a burger. Buns were slightly toasted and substantial enough to not fall apart with the juicy, cheesy burger. Service was very good - they checked on us and were quick to notice when we were just about ready for another drink. Food was good, I had the grill chicken sandwich which tasted good and had a nice sauce. It was kind of tall though so it kept falling apart. They had an okay selection of beer. The service is good. We come here for a football game as the restaurant says this is penn state bar. However, they keep switching the channel says there are Arizona state fans downstair. If the restaurant wants to serve as many customers as possible, please don't label themself as Penn State Bar. All second floor is PSU alumni and we have to fight for watching our game. Some monitors are not functioning at all, Audio is on and off from time to time. Also food here is not good, wings are soggy and sandwich has no flavor at all. Not recommend read more

The two floor setup is a nice benefit to have and it seems like the 2nd floor (where we had the event) is large enough to entertain a lot of people. I don't normally leave one star reviews, but this place was just that bad. Some of my friends and I came to NY and wanted to try out a pub. We saw this place on yelp and despite the negative reviews about poor service, we still tried to give it a shot. From the moment we walked in, the bartender gave us so much attitude. When he carded us, he questioned that we had just turned 21 and was very rude about it. After ordering, we definitely contemplated just leaving because we felt unwanted and super uncomfortable, but we decided to just stay because we saw him making the drinks already. Overall, the food was mediocre and drinks were okay. I am just disappointed that the only pub we went to in NY was probably the worst one we could have possibly stepped into!
