Blake's Lotaburger is New Mexico's claim to fame in the burger world. Their "New Mexico style burger meal" ($14.29) is their most unique offering. It's simply a double-patty green chile burger with other fixings removed per request. Mine was nice and juicy minus the mustard they usually put on it with the addition of mayonnaise. Their seasoned fries were just okay to me. That was the first time I'd ever tried them - and one of course right out of the bag. I was surpised at how cold it already had gotten even after going up immediately to grab my order when my name was announced. For some reason I graviated towards the locally-pressed and bottled orange juice. It was darn refreshing. Service was very friendly and respectful. Their restroom was mostly clean with piping hot water at the sink. Their drive-thru was packed when I pulled in so I opted to park and walk in. I'm glad I did. This will most likely be at the top of my fast food list when I'm traveling through Espanola, NM. read more

They took our order at 9:16 AM, a carne breakfast burrito and a breakfast sandwich. Two cars ahead of us moved quickly, we sat at the window for more than 30, yes 30 minutes after paying. The place was not busy inside. Several workers, gal at the window was nice but one of the cooks yelled at me when I as the passenger looked over at her. We said nothing, we did nothing to provoke anyone. We had paid as soon as we drove up and nobody came close enough to the window for us to get our money back and just leave. To add insult to injury, both sandwiches were wrong, no green chile on the sandwich (as stated on the menu) and the burrito was bacon. Ridiculous excuse for a fast food place and rude lady yelling at me. Never again, and I do strive to support local, but not here. Awful, I even called to see if I could be hired and they said they're not hiring at the moment, if they have a full staff it shouldn't take you 15 minutes to take the order and 25 minutes to make the order and it's pretty simple to make, I looked inside and saw 3 people standing there talking (not helping) and the others were going so slow, and if someone is going to take orders on the headset at least train them right, he sounded like he didn't know what he was doing. He kept asking people to help him with simple orders, I have worked in fast food before multiple times and I'm surprised this place isn't shut down. This also isn't my first bad experience with this specific Lotaburger it's always the same. I owned a fast food restaurant and worked 100 hour weeks. Just wanted to say that so this review has some teeth. We waited 22 minutes for our 2 burgers at 2:00 with only one person in the restaurant. He went up with his ticket and asked what was up with his order. About 5 minutes later we got our order. A bit after that some folks that had come in after us asked what was up with their order. They served 5 people in 30 minutes. There were 6 employees goofing around the whole time. There was no ice. The bathroom doors were locked. There were no napkins out. My husband went up to ask for napkins and no one came to the register. We had to salt and pepper the burgers. There's multiple places with great reviews in Española where you can get a great green Chile cheeseburger. Don't let nostalgia fool you. It takes 5 minutes to cook a burger and fries. These employees were just hanging out in the back. I've NEVER seen anything that bad. Every one that works there should be fired, including whatever irresponsible manager that replies to this review. read more

I stopped in at the Española Lotaburger on Wednesday morning. I couldn't believe it. It was an amazing sandwich. Best thing I've ever tasted shocked. It's coming from this location. They're known for horrible service and not about the product that they put out. So I thought maybe they've finally changed. Today on Sunday I decided to go back and have that breakfast sandwich. It was the most disgusting sandwich I've ever eaten in my life. My stomach is turning as I'm posting was stale and hard as a rock. Couldn't even tell what it was you're looking at it really looked horrible and it tasted just as bad. Nothing like the sandwich I had at this same location on Wednesday. These people should just shut down for good they hire people that don't give a crap or show pride in their work. Horrible place stay away. UPDATE! I ended up getting very sick after eating the breakfast sandwich I reviewed above. Second time in several months I got sick after eating here at Espanola location. I'm done. Española Blake's reopened. It has a drive-thru. The fries were cold, half filled, burger patties are new, (see edges) and low quality meat. Every bite is a different flavor. It's a different vibe. Those burgers have been consistent for most of my life. Too much change everywhere. I won't be back. Going out to eat is just not worth it any longer. read more

Blake's Lotaburger, terrible service soda was flat, forgot the cheese on my burger and got angry at me for asking for it, fries were mid, lettuce was soggy, forgot to give us our shakes and we had to go back up to ask for those too. The ice was excellent.... It's the "good kind", but unfortunately there was only ONE cube left in the machine. The employees seemed to be in a hurry to close. Although we left before closing, as we and some other customers were exiting, the lady with the green hair shouted "just close the door on them as soon as they get out". Music was decent. I've never had a green chili cheeseburger prior to visiting here, so I gave it a go and was pretty impressed. Burgers here are made to order and this location is only offering takeout so the wait was longer than your typical fast food joint. I'm glad it was fresh and put together nicely with a good serving of chili's. I had seasoned fries on the side and I enjoyed those too. It started with me sitting in the drive thru for 5 minutes with no answer, so I parked and walked inside, not another person in the place. Then I stood there for who knows how long when I finally asked the workers behind the counter if they were open, he said yes, and went back to cleaning. I guess me standing there staring at him he came to the counter and took my order. The food came in a timely manner, but when I checked the order they had left something out. Blake's is a New Mexico staple. Their green chile cheeseburgers are the stuff of New Mexico legends. The seasoned fries are amazing and they have some of the best breakfast burritos you'll ever eat. My dad gets breakfast here multiple times per week. The brownies are really good too. They recently had a biscochito milkshake that was incredible. Best thing about this was the seasoned fries. They didn't have 1/2 of their fountain drinks, no ketchup, and apparently no manners or how to address someone when they are at the counter with an issue with their order. My mom ordered frito pie, the cheese was not even melted... so I knew already it wasn't even warm. She took a bite and yeah correct not even warm... she went to the counter and while she waited patiently no one addressed her while 2 kids watching burgers had their backs to her, the young woman taking orders was swamped and yet some young girl came to meet a friend in the lobby. Someone finally addressed my mom, got her a new cup- no charge. This cup was also cold, not even warm in the slightest. I went to the counter, waited 10 minutes, with the original cup of frito pie still on the counter. I finally asked a larger man in an apron in the opposite corner of the kitchen, if I could borrow his pen to leave a note on the back of my receipt since anyone was way too busy to address yet another customer at the counter. The man lent me his pen, but said that he would need it back AND THEN asked me if anyone had helped me. I returned his pen and said not since I had been waiting, I told him that both frito pies were cold and that I didn't even care for my $5.25 back. What a DIVE and not in a good way. This place is so dirty and the cooks/managers yell at customers as was the case I witnessed today. I think this will be the last visit here. Floors are NEVER clean. My last three visits have consisted of a heroine addict sporting his needles behind his ear, to a fight and tonight unsanitary conditions for beginners. None of the workers had hair nets, the girls all had really long hair, the side doors were locked, they refused to make me tea---it was only 7 and they close at 10. I never saw them wash their hands despite walking in and out of the kitchen and no one seemed to be running the register. I will not be returning to this particular Lotaburger. For a fast food restaurant, the service was quite slow. From the time I placed my order until the food was in my hand was at least 15 minutes. Having a 15 minutes wait for fast food I feel is rather sad. The burger meat itself was well seasoned, and was a good blend of meat. This making it juicy and tender. However, the bun on the burger was stale and thick. It was the first time eating a burger where I felt the bun was detracting from the burger. I ordered the seasoned fries, and they were not that impressive. They were incredibly over cooked, and I could not taste any special seasoning. Overall if you are going to spend more than $8.00 on a meal do not go to Lota Burger. The food and wait time are not worth it. read more

Used to eat here on a regular basis coming back-and-forth from Albuquerque. Was always my favorite place to eat. Stopped to eat here for the first time in probably five or six years and the food is horrible. The cashier that took our order has no customer service skills whatsoever. She was taking orders and piling the orders on top of the tray in no order whatsoever. The two cooks were trying to sort them out as well as keeping up with the grill.. The two guys that are doing the grill are doing the best that they can under the condition . Our hamburgers were overcooked and tasteless. The buns were old and dry. Blake's in Espanola has become synonymous with "What's wrong with my order". Case in point: twice this week, at my workplace we ordered from Blake's Lotaburger and both times there is something wrong. Its has turned into a game to see what is wrong with everyone's order. It feels like staff is struggling to keep up, disorganized, lack leadership and disheveled in appearance. The online ordering has make the experience better because at least you don't have to call and hearing a busy signal for 10 minutes, finally get through and get placed on hold again for 5-10 more minutes. Food was very good for a fast food burger place. The place is somewhat clean. Tamara the female working the register was rude and acted as though she hated life. I asked to have plain burgers while ordering and you would have thought I asked her to run a marathon.
