We settled on this place after having no luck finding a bbq spot in the area. We left feeling very satisfied! The staff was very friendly and so patient with our rowdy little children. :) Ordered blackened chicken sandwiches with fries. The sandwich buns were good with a really nice texture. The fries were yummy too. The kids got BLT's and ham and mashed potatoes. All were very good. My daughter especially liked the gravy. Service was inadequate except for tea refills. No thought of condiments by the staff, he didn't come back after serving plates (at disparate times). Strangely flavored food. I'm guessing the only reason they are in business is they are the only restaurant around the area. We came in and sat down. 10 minutes later, a young guy brought us some menus and said they were understaffed. It wasn't even 10am and he brought us lunch menus. We sat for another 5-10 minutes and a group of people came in that knew the other people who worked there. They were immediately given drinks and their order was taken. All while we have been sitting for 20 minutes with no drinks, no waitress, nothing. We got up and left, so I can't comment on the food. If you're understaffed, I can understand slow service, but to immediately serve people you know over people who have been waiting for 20 minutes is ridiculous. read more

When you find yourself out in the middle of nowhere and you find an actual diner and don't have to go to McDonald's or Taco Bell or Bojangles, take the side of independent businesses, take a chance on the unknown. Blake appears to be a family owned and operated business that has been here for decades. More happen stance than by design, we ended up here and very hungry. The only other place in town was a chain hamburger place not on my preferred list. When we saw Southern Fried Chicken on the menu, my long quest was answered. The chicken was cooked to order hence took a wee bit to arrive but was cooked to a light crunchy perfection. The mashed potatoes featured their "beef gravy" and while I am not a willy-nilly gravy person, my instincts said thrust this place. The gravy was outstanding. The Cole slaw must be among the best anywhere in NC. The yeast muffins were freshly made and the mini-corn bread round was hot from the oven. We both had the lemon meringue pie, which was excellent even if the crust was a bit soft. Overall, this is worth going out of your way to seek. I highly recommend Blake's! read more

I have noticed Blake's Restaurant a number of times as we travelled down 220 heading to the beach just before Thanksgiving and always was impressed by the trucks in the parking lot. You know what they say about a truck stop dine. This time we were passing by shortly after lunch and decided to have lunch. I did notice that their were no trucks around, and only one table was occupied. And when we got inside there were only a few tables that had been cleaned up after the lunch crowd. We got seated immediately and our drink order was taken. We both ordered burgers and fries. They were prepared in a timely manner and delivered immediately. Nothing exceptional about the burgers, but the fries were hot so they must have been made for us. The highlight of the stop was the Coconut Cream Pie, my dessert of choice when available. And Mary had the Chocolate Cream Pie, which she said was good. Not sure if I will plan to stop here on future trips, but if we got here when were hungry I would stop in. read more

Food is good southern home cooking. Service is hit or miss. My husband and I have stopped here several times. Service is typically a bit slow but went there yesterday for lunch and sat there for 15 min and never even saw a wait person come through the dining room. Only go if you are a local. We stopped for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. After being hidden in a corner of a dark back room we had to wait 20 min before a waiter took our order. Meanwhile we could see other groups being seated and served food before us. Food was mediocre and not worth the wait. Not once were we asked for refills of drinks or asked if we wanted desert. It was obvious that we were not welcomed because we didn't look like the locals. Wendy's would have been a better choice. read more

Had breakfast there this Saturday morning, and was very disappointed. The service was incredibly slow and the food was lukewarm when we go it, and no awareness or remorse on the part of the plate-toters ( wait staff). I've been there once before for a late lunch, and had a good experience. I think somebody slept in today. I won't go back for breakfast. read more

We arrived just after the lunch crowd - nice clean basic home style place. Small and cozy, like a family members home. The Burgers and Reuben were excellent!!! As was the service and prices! Can't wait to go back and try breakfast. Just wish it was closer to my home. read more

This resturant was awful! Slow to even come to our table, then the food was COLD! My mashed potatoes and my husband's pinto beans were stone cold! I ordered the scallops and they were even barely warm when brought to the table! How do you manage that? We all got food poisoning from this nasty food! My son was sooooo sick that night...and the price for what we got,,,could have went to Golden Corral and been happy and NOT sick!! We will NEVER stop at Blake's again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Blake Restaurant is a good home cook, Ma and Pop dinner. It has a good menu with a variety of home cooked meals to chose from. They have good specials at least two to three times a week. The Blake family is always there to greet there customers with smiles, and make you feel like your at home. I love there breakfast there, in some words you could say "Man that's almost good as Momma's cooking". The deserts are awesome, the pie's but my favorite is the chocolate cake. The restaurant is in a great location, it's right off the highway on 220. Take the Candor exit on 220 south, make right at stop sing and you cant miss it.
