The back patio area is a hidden gem.

Ould Sod is a neighborhood favorite. The best staff, perfect location and chill back patio. Warren is a great guy and outstanding bartender. It's always fun to meet friends and neighbors there. No food but you are welcome to bring your own from other neighboring restaurants. I love bringing food and sitting in the front window.

Rating this pub 5 stars for various reasons! Their happy hour has all draft beers for $5.50 including Guinness and they have a great selection! The bartender was super friendly and everyone in there was just so welcoming. It definitely gives a local neighborhood bar!

I actually have come to like this bar. Gets really packed. They also have Karoake which is fun. People here a generally nice including the bartenders. Good vibes here overall. I would say parking is as it would be expected; can be hard to find. But if you do manage to find parking you also have the option to go to other local spots on the same street so you can just walk.

    Head on in!

Sometimes you just want to go to a bar. Not interested in food or dancing, just a good bar but not a fancy bar. You want a stool and some booze. The Ould Sod is that kind of bar! It's a good bar because it's well stocked for the classics, not pretentious, the bartenders are friendly, and (most importantly in the summer heat) they have a/c. Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows it's not cool to have swamp ass and maybe, if you're here frequently enough, they'll know your name. Is The Ould Sod a dive bar? Sure, techincally, but it's a nice dive because as you can see it's an Irish pub which makes it at least 50% nicer than your standard American dive. Might be the accents. I met some friendly regulars, even took one with us to another stop later in the evening on our hunt for post-drink eats. There are plenty of tasty joints around the neighborhood so you can make a whole night of it. Happy hour (M-F 4-6) saves you a couple bucks per drink. Since I'm still touring around all the dives in SD- I was here for an old fashioned, or three to be honest, the spacious patio that's out back if my group needed to spread out, and a bit of that aforementioned a/c. Important bar note- the bathrooms are clean and they even have a spacious handicap accessible bathroom my fat ass appreciates. If you're looking for some weekend fun- Saturday nights (after 9 pm) they have karaoke. As with any bar the later it gets the rowdier it'll be. As for me? I'll be back on another chill Thursday night, early, sipping a house old fashioned, and being happy my friends like this bar as much as I do. Hopefully yours feel the same way. Invite them and find out!

Old bartender was rude and rascist. Most unbecoming old sod himself. Also smells like piss once entering.

Ask the Community - The Ould Sod

    Do they have food?

They do not serve food, aside from chips. You are welcome to bring in your own food and there are many places nearby with great options!

Do you know if you can rent space for a 40th birthday party?

They have a back patio bar which private parties can rent out and bring catering.

Is there karaoke on Monday nights?

I know they have it on Thursday and Saturday, I don't think so on Monday.

For a bar, that's not always a given, and as someone who doesn't drink as much these days, that immediately stood out to me. I grabbed a lavender leprechaun and it was super refreshing, light, and just a really nice change of pace from the usual soda-or-water options. It didn't feel like an afterthought, it actually felt intentional. For food, I went with the corned beef sandwich and it did not disappoint. Hearty, flavorful, and exactly what you'd want from a proper Irish pub. The whole place has that classic pub vibe but still feels welcoming whether you're drinking or not. That balance is rare, and I really appreciated it. Definitely a spot I'd come back to, especially knowing I've got solid non-alcoholic options to enjoy.

I ordered the sampler that came with smaller portions of the beef stew, chicken boxty, shepherd's pie, and corned beef and cabbage.i think the stew was one of the ones i liked the best, it was hearty, the meat was tender, and the flavor was good. The chicken boxty could have used a little bit more flavor to the sauce, it tasted kind of bland. The shepherd's pie was the beef version, it was not the best I've had but still good. I feel like it also could have used just a bit more flavor or some salt. The corned beef and cabbage tasted like they added nothing to it to give it flavor, so i was a bit disappointed with it. However, the corned beef was pretty tender and i liked the taste. We also ordered the house burger which we liked. I liked the flavor the irish cheddar gave it. It came with fries, which tasted fresh and we enjoyed. It's pretty dark inside, and it definitely looks older, but that's the vibe they are going for. You almost feel transported to another time for sure. Yeah everything was in there The upstairs looks a little bit brighter, and in hindsight I wish we would have sat up there. I feel like downstairs is more for when you just want to have a drink and watch the game.

There were 10 of us celebrating a birthday. We ambled into Rosie's and there happened to be three empty four-tops just inside the door. We took them over then headed to the bar. John W. was the barkeep slinging drinks and keeping up admirably with the demand. The place is rather small. Some tables against the wall and a pretty good-sized bar. There is a kitchen in the back with a window for ordering should you want some bar grub, which we did. We ordered the Crispy Fries - $10 (Topped with Oaxaca cheese, crispy chicharrónes, and house dipping sauce) They were excellent fries. Nice and crispy outside, perfectly soft inside. Piping hot and they held up very well to the ample cheese melted on top. There was also a drizzle of something on them that was really good. The house aioli provided for dipping was really good too, but honestly the fries were perfectly delicious without it. The kitchen is a one-man show back there. On the counter is a little wooden house. Lift the roof and toss a few bucks in there for the cook! Rosie O'Grady's is a fun spot. If you are a Chicago sports fan, it is definitely your destination. They are a Cubs, Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks bar. Sorry White Sox fans, the south side gets no love from O'Grady's.
