The back patio area is a hidden gem.

Ould Sod is a neighborhood favorite. The best staff, perfect location and chill back patio. Warren is a great guy and outstanding bartender. It's always fun to meet friends and neighbors there. No food but you are welcome to bring your own from other neighboring restaurants. I love bringing food and sitting in the front window.

    Guinness galore!

We made the bold decision of coming here with a big group on St Patrick's day - and the risk paid off! The bar is actually massive fit with a big outdoor patio. We enjoyed a ton of guinesses and the staff was awesome and seriously held it down. The bar was fully decked out with clovers, guinness decor, etc. Would definitely return - it has a ton of character!

Rating this pub 5 stars for various reasons! Their happy hour has all draft beers for $5.50 including Guinness and they have a great selection! The bartender was super friendly and everyone in there was just so welcoming. It definitely gives a local neighborhood bar!

I actually have come to like this bar. Gets really packed. They also have Karoake which is fun. People here a generally nice including the bartenders. Good vibes here overall. I would say parking is as it would be expected; can be hard to find. But if you do manage to find parking you also have the option to go to other local spots on the same street so you can just walk.

    Head on in!

Sometimes you just want to go to a bar. Not interested in food or dancing, just a good bar but not a fancy bar. You want a stool and some booze. The Ould Sod is that kind of bar! It's a good bar because it's well stocked for the classics, not pretentious, the bartenders are friendly, and (most importantly in the summer heat) they have a/c. Sometimes you wanna go where everybody knows it's not cool to have swamp ass and maybe, if you're here frequently enough, they'll know your name. Is The Ould Sod a dive bar? Sure, techincally, but it's a nice dive because as you can see it's an Irish pub which makes it at least 50% nicer than your standard American dive. Might be the accents. I met some friendly regulars, even took one with us to another stop later in the evening on our hunt for post-drink eats. There are plenty of tasty joints around the neighborhood so you can make a whole night of it. Happy hour (M-F 4-6) saves you a couple bucks per drink. Since I'm still touring around all the dives in SD- I was here for an old fashioned, or three to be honest, the spacious patio that's out back if my group needed to spread out, and a bit of that aforementioned a/c. Important bar note- the bathrooms are clean and they even have a spacious handicap accessible bathroom my fat ass appreciates. If you're looking for some weekend fun- Saturday nights (after 9 pm) they have karaoke. As with any bar the later it gets the rowdier it'll be. As for me? I'll be back on another chill Thursday night, early, sipping a house old fashioned, and being happy my friends like this bar as much as I do. Hopefully yours feel the same way. Invite them and find out!

Ask the Community - The Ould Sod

    Do they have food?

They do not serve food, aside from chips. You are welcome to bring in your own food and there are many places nearby with great options!

Do you know if you can rent space for a 40th birthday party?

They have a back patio bar which private parties can rent out and bring catering.

Is there karaoke on Monday nights?

I know they have it on Thursday and Saturday, I don't think so on Monday.

For a bar, that's not always a given, and as someone who doesn't drink as much these days, that immediately stood out to me. I grabbed a lavender leprechaun and it was super refreshing, light, and just a really nice change of pace from the usual soda-or-water options. It didn't feel like an afterthought, it actually felt intentional. For food, I went with the corned beef sandwich and it did not disappoint. Hearty, flavorful, and exactly what you'd want from a proper Irish pub. The whole place has that classic pub vibe but still feels welcoming whether you're drinking or not. That balance is rare, and I really appreciated it. Definitely a spot I'd come back to, especially knowing I've got solid non-alcoholic options to enjoy.

Overview: food was actually really good, loud inside, good price, attentive service…read more ---- First time at McGregor's, but definitely won't be my last! We came in at 9:30pm on a Friday night and it was bustling here. There's four pool tables and all of them were taken. It's open seating and luckily we found a table big enough for our party of 6! There's lots of tv screens around the bar with various sports playing on each one, from baseball to rugby and even a Spanish judge show on one hahaha, so lots of variety to not be bored. ---- Carnitas Tacos Basket $18 - the baskets come with two tacos and your choose of side: fries, black beans, coleslaw or pasta salad - I opted for the coleslaw, it was not bad, I liked the cayenne pepper and the green onions that was sprinkled on top but it was just a pretty standard coleslaw - the tacos were really great - the meat was well seasoned, juicy, tender, and large; very filling and delicious - it was topped with cheese, pico de gallo, shredded lettuce, and jalapeños Corned Beef Sandwich $16 - for $3 make it a combo and add a side french fries, colestaw, pasta salad, or black beans - my boyfriend added the fries and it was so much better than the coleslaw - the fries were seasoned well with a crispy exterior and a soft fluffy interior, probably the best fries I've had in a while - the sandwich was corned beef, Swiss cheese, and rye bread - the sandwich itself was also pretty good, I only had a bite so I could only tell that the bread was nice and crispy and the meat was tasty, but my bf enjoyed it a lot Modelo Boot $15 - the beer comes inside the boot and you get to KEEP THE BOOT - I don't even drink alcohol much but I think that boot is really cute - I'd buy it just for the boot hahahah ---- Notes: - parking is in a shared plaza (lots of other businesses and food spots around!) - also located near a trolley station - very walkable from the nearby condos - pretty loud inside, it was quite hard to hear the people at your table - there's outside and inside seating (outside is wayyyy more quiet) - inside the AC was blasting so it felt great during this heat wave - they have daily specials written on a blackboard with different food and drink options (last night was the Friday special of the Prime Rib Dinner for $30) ---- Overall: I'd honestly come back here for the fries, I was very impressed by the quality of food and am super glad it's not the stereotypical bad bar food

Initially, I was bummed that there was a special menu and I didn't have access to everything, but when I received my fish n chips, all the disappointment went away. They were SO GOOD!
