I had been thinking about this meal for an entire week and was SO excited to come here and try something new, so I was really disappointed by the experience. The service was genuinely some of the worst I've ever experienced. There were two women alternating throughout the meal. When the first woman took my order, I explained that I did not want to know what kind of meat came with the dish. She completely understood, respected it, and took my order without making it weird. The second woman came out and started to tell me what kind of meat it was, so I stopped her and again said that I didn't want to know. I thanked her, thinking that would be the end of it. Instead, she came back in the middle of our meal and asked if I had found out what the meat was. I said again that I hadn't and that I didn't want to know, and she proceeded to tell me what it was then just stared at me before walking away. It was incredibly uncomfortable and honestly just rude. Then, despite the restaurant not being busy or rushed, she came back and basically pushed us out. She didn't ask if we wanted another drink, didn't mention dessert, or give us any indication that we were welcome to stay. She simply asked if we were ready for the check. I completely understand that my request is unusual, but it's really not complicated. I don't want to know what meat I'm eating because if I know, I won't eat it and I'm trying to explore outside of my comfort zone. The first woman understood that perfectly fine. The second girl went out of her way to make it into a thing. I wasn't expecting an apology but it would've been nice for her to acknowledge it since I repeated it a few times and I didn't get to finish my meal. When I heard that they were voted the #1 Sports Bar in America by Yelp, I had to check it out for myself. I came for the World Cup, and the place was literally shoulder to shoulder. However, the staff did a great job, especially Nicole who has a great attitude! The Fish & Chips here is legit, and so are the European Beers. Karlsberg, Weissensteffaner, and all the other favorites are on tap. Also, they managed the crowds very well, because people were lining up as early as 10:00 a.m. to watch matches that were scheduled to kick off at 12:00 p.m. Overall, I would say that it was a positive experience, but I couldn't crown it as the #1 Sports Bar in America. I was a little lost because I came in through a side door. Got a seat on the patio with a view of India st. The waitress came over and got our order. Super sweet and didn't rush us. This was like option three of a list of three restaurants I wanted to go eat at on a Saturday afternoon. Nothing here screamed yum. But I was overruled and ended up here around 7pm. Not gonna lie... the place kinda smacked. It ended up being a lot better than what I was expecting. I mean, it won't change your life but I can definitely see myself coming back here to try something else off the menu. There were two in my party, and we went with the classic fish and chips and a Reuben sandwich with no sides since the waitress mentioned that there's a huge amount of fries that comes with the fish. She was right. I ordered it with slaw and honestly that was my only regret. It was sooooo much mayonnaise and tasted as such. Ended up adding it to the Reuben and that was the only way it was able to be eaten. The fish wasn't too bready and the oil they used to fry it was a good quality / still pretty fresh because you could taste the fish and not all the other things that were fried in the oil throughout the day. We had a dog with us so we sat outside on the patio. The front part of the patio is for smokers and the other half is for non smokers. There's a ton of seats and even more inside. Inside was a bit dark but I guess that was the vibe they were going for. Bathrooms were pretty bad which is to be expected at a pub and both are unisex. We went with some classic London and Scottish beers. A Black and Tan and a flight of beer. You get four 5is pour. I used to live in London and the different beers definitely took me back. I appreciated that it only cost me 12 bucks which is pretty good for a taster. Parking is tough. It sits basically in the middle of a short block. There's an entrance to the highway right there so it comes with a ton of traffic and a good amount of noise. There's a lot across from the restaurant for parking. Some street. And a residential street behind it. Plan for at least 10 minutes of frustratingly looking for a place to park especially during high foot and car traffic times. My last review from 12 years ago is FAR from how I feel about Shakespeare Pub & Grille nowadays. The staff goes above and beyond and are some of the friendliest around. The food is delicious and the portions are huge. This is the only place I've ever seen my father *not* be able to clean his plate. The fish and chips are the best around. I recommend getting a side of curry sauce to dip your chips in. Their specials are great too and they ALWAYS offer a vegetarian option. Portion sizes are fit for a king - a single serving of Chicken Tikka Masala (served with basmati rice, chips or a bit of both and Naan bread) will fill you right up with all that carb-y goodness to soak up the curry. My only (minor) complaint is with service - despite plenty of available seating both inside and on the patio, there was quite a long wait to be accommodated on my recent visit. Longing for the days in England and Scotland, we decided to eat out for a Full English instead of cooking at home. I normally make a Full English breakfast myself, but my hubby had been wanting to come here to try one. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. She said it should be about 30 min, basically once the race finishes. We decided to wait and get a drink. The place is packed, I'm pretty sure beyond capacity. Tables of people with empty plates of food just watching the race, girlfriends and wives perusing ig. We stand in a tight corner with our elbows tucked trying to raise our drinks to our mouths. You get the picture. We got seated about 30 min after our second check-in. After 5min of being seated the bf went and got us some menus. About 15 min after that a waitress showed up at our table. On to business: Drinks were good. I had the Original Pimms Cup and a Harry Potter's Butterbeer. He had a draught hefeweizen and a custom flight. The food was excellent! He ordered the Steak and Ale pot pie and a side of fish. I ordered the Sunday Roast Beef. The roast was tender and flavorful, the yorkshire pudding was perfect. Customer service was terrible the day we came! There were at least 5 waitresses we saw circling our patio dining area but seemed almost impossible to grab their attention for service! We asked for more lemons and refills on our drinks and had to ask a second time as we never got them the first time we asked. We came for their famous fish n chips $10 Fridays! I WAS NOT A FAN...fish was flavorless, chips were steak fries that had absolutely no crisp and just limp, nor did I care for the slaw, and to top it off the coke I ordered did not even taste right! We started off with a flight of beer and I tried an alcoholic ginger beer which was great. For food, we got the fish & chips and shepherd pie. I've been here twice now to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, and I have to say the food is great. This place really comes alive on St. Patrick's Day. Service, on the other hand, has been 50/50 in my experience. During my last visit back in 2023, we celebrated the day of, so the establishment was understandably PACKED, with the wait time being around an hour or so. At that time, their was a staff member redirecting traffic from the front of the restaurant to the back where a hostess was actively adding peoples' names to a waitlist and inviting us to hang out in the beer garden outback while we waited for a table to open up. The atmosphere was great, and the service throughout our meal was also attentive. This year, 2025, we visited the Sunday before St. Patrick's, and the place was nowhere near as packed, with many tables still vacant. It was then that we were told that we could sit anywhere. Although the service this time around was lacking despite the fact that there were considerably less people, and the energy was nowhere near what we remembered from our first time here, granted we did visit the day before the actual holiday. Our server wasn't particularly friendly, and took awhile to come back after taking our drink order. Towards the end of our meal, a different server started helping us out. Both times, we ordered the "Beer Battered Pickles," which were extremely tasty as they seemed like they were fried-to-order! Paired with the chipotle mayo, they were delicious. The jalapeno aioli was good as well, with a hint of sweetness, but I much preferred the chipotle mayo. Pickles were well-seasoned with a nice crisp exterior without being dry on the inside. The "Fresh Cut 'Proper' Chips" paired with curry sauce was simple but tasty! However, after opting for the gravy this time around, I noticed that it was very watery and lacked flavor because of it. Of the two sauces, I'd recommend the curry. The "Chicken Tikka Masala" is a solid dish, with a generous portion. The chicken was tender and coated in a flavorful curry. The first time I ordered this, I opted to get half naan and chips, and everything was delicious. This time around, I tried their "Shepherd's Pie," which was delicious and was served in a hearty-sized platter. The potatoes were nice and fluffy, and the ground beef was well-seasoned. However, the chips that came with the entree were not properly salted and tasted very bland. As for drinks, I wasn't a fan of their "Harry Potter's Butter Beer," but I'll reason that it might be an accustomed taste. I also thought their "Triple Expresso Martini" was just ok. Parking is difficult, as the metered spots out front are usually taken, leaving you with no other option but to park on one of the many hills in the area. read more
