Stopped by before the SDFC vs LAFC game with my group of friends...I'm a LAFC fan, my friends are SDFC fans. The security guard at the door said it was a locals only bar, but he then laughed and let me in. I was literally the only LAFC fan inside, but the vibe was very chill. Very much enjoyed the st. Patrick event here, as it offered musical entertainment and different food options such as corn beef and Irish stew, which I had alongside some magical and delicious pale ale from local brewery Fall. They offer a nice selection of craft beers. The establishment had extra servers to accommodate for how busy it was. There was a line outside when we left about 7 pm. One of my favorite menu items is only sold on Thursdays, the Irish nachos and we add carnitas. So so so so good!!!!! The Irish nachos give the meat and cheese a nice touch of salt. Come for drinks but you stay for the food. Which isn't the reason you come to your neighborhood sports bar. Normally you find a spot for drinks and then leave to go get food elsewhere. McGregor's does it all - drinks, food, TVs, pool tables, darts, and patio space. Keep trying new things on their food menu as everything has been tasty. If you haven't tried it yet, their clam chowder and fish and chips hit the spot. They have daily specials for food and drinks written on a board where you'd order food. So don't forget to check that out. If you come for a SDFC or Padres game, they have themed drink specials for the night. It can get packed during game days. Parking lot is small. I don't find myself in the area too often but when I am in search of a bite and a drink while circling the neighborhood, McGregor's is a fun little pitstop, always has been. The food/drinks are on par with bar food and bar prices. Nothing is going to blow you away and this really isn't a place you'd take a date for dinner, but rather some drinks, snacks, and a few games of pool. The jukebox always seems to be kicking out some good tunes and the staff when sitting at the bar has always been very attentive. We have come to McGregor a couple of time after a San Diego Legion rugby match. The place has a nice atmosphere, offers lots of parking, and the service is great. I used to love this place. They advertise being open til 2am. It's 1:12 on a Saturday. Gabriel, informs us of last call. That's totally normal. I'm mid game of a pool match. He comes up and tells us to leave at 1:22. Doesn't let us finish, people still sitting at the bar drinking. He singles us out and informs us to leave. Bad services. Save yourself the trip and go down the street to stadium club. We ended up leaving and going to stadium club who allowed us a pool match and also last call at a later time. The padres punch was good and frozen. A bit on the sweet side for me so opted for the kombucha for my second drink and liked it much better. The clam chowder wasn't too fishy tasting and good. I got the carnitas taco. I wasn't that impressed with it and probably wouldn't get tacos here again. I really liked the spinach salad. It was fresh and flavorful. The garlic bread that was served with it was perfectly crunchy. The Bavarian pretzel with cheese sauce was also good. It was buttery and delicious. The calamari was just ok. I like it better when its rings as they tend to be crunchier I didn't try the mahi mahi but the fries were good. Their tartar sauce didn't have a lot of flavor. I like mahi mahi but not this one. Ev tartar sauce was off. My friend also didn't like the mahi mahi on his taco. The pretzel was the best things we ordered. So buttery. My partner said the spinach salad was good but the carnitas taco he added was not good at all. Our other friend got the calm chowder and she loved it. The calamari strips were alright. Has more fries than calamari. Calamari wasn't crunchy as I would have liked. Lastly the fried ice cream was awful. I didn't like the oily taste to it and there was a ton of coconut flakes. Becky and I met some friends at McGregor's Ale House prior to attending the Aztecs home opener at Snapdragon Stadium. We hadn't been to McGregor's in several years. I checked out the menu online and was happy to see that the Calamari Sandwich was still offered. That was my go-to back in the day. Upon arrival we found our friend on the patio. We were introduced to our server Corinne. We were handed menus, the "Game Day" menu. A paired down menu not listed on the website. A paired down menu that did not offer the Calamari Sando. Bummer! I'd have to switch to Plan B, which I didn't have. We ended up ordering the giant pretzel ($10) for the table. The giant pretzel found on the game day menu, but not the regular menu. We ordered an extra cup of the Jalapeño White Cheese Sauce for $3. The pretzel was huge and plenty for all four of us to share. The jalapeño cheese sauce was devine. Pretty solid snack for 13 bucks. Pints of beer were $8 as were 12 oz. cans of Quirk Seltzer. Service from Corrine was on point. Good times can be found at McGregor's! read more
