Overview: food was actually really good, loud inside, good price, attentive service ---- First time at McGregor's, but definitely won't be my last! We came in at 9:30pm on a Friday night and it was bustling here. There's four pool tables and all of them were taken. It's open seating and luckily we found a table big enough for our party of 6! There's lots of tv screens around the bar with various sports playing on each one, from baseball to rugby and even a Spanish judge show on one hahaha, so lots of variety to not be bored. ---- Carnitas Tacos Basket $18 - the baskets come with two tacos and your choose of side: fries, black beans, coleslaw or pasta salad - I opted for the coleslaw, it was not bad, I liked the cayenne pepper and the green onions that was sprinkled on top but it was just a pretty standard coleslaw - the tacos were really great - the meat was well seasoned, juicy, tender, and large; very filling and delicious - it was topped with cheese, pico de gallo, shredded lettuce, and jalapeños Corned Beef Sandwich $16 - for $3 make it a combo and add a side french fries, colestaw, pasta salad, or black beans - my boyfriend added the fries and it was so much better than the coleslaw - the fries were seasoned well with a crispy exterior and a soft fluffy interior, probably the best fries I've had in a while - the sandwich was corned beef, Swiss cheese, and rye bread - the sandwich itself was also pretty good, I only had a bite so I could only tell that the bread was nice and crispy and the meat was tasty, but my bf enjoyed it a lot Modelo Boot $15 - the beer comes inside the boot and you get to KEEP THE BOOT - I don't even drink alcohol much but I think that boot is really cute - I'd buy it just for the boot hahahah ---- Notes: - parking is in a shared plaza (lots of other businesses and food spots around!) - also located near a trolley station - very walkable from the nearby condos - pretty loud inside, it was quite hard to hear the people at your table - there's outside and inside seating (outside is wayyyy more quiet) - inside the AC was blasting so it felt great during this heat wave - they have daily specials written on a blackboard with different food and drink options (last night was the Friday special of the Prime Rib Dinner for $30) ---- Overall: I'd honestly come back here for the fries, I was very impressed by the quality of food and am super glad it's not the stereotypical bad bar food read more

I was new to the neighborhood when I first started coming to McGregor's, and it quickly became one of my favorite spots. I've met soooo many wonderful people here, and it has that rare neighborhood feel where everyone makes you feel welcome and at home! The chicken Caesar wrap is amazinggggg, the fries are the best, and you can tell they put real thought and care into the food. I've also had the chance to meet the owner, Ian, and he's as genuine and down to earth as they come. I've seen firsthand how he takes the time to talk with customers and genuinely wants everyone to have a great experience. And they host several fundraisers for wonderful local orgs! My husband and I came here on a Thursday night to grab some dinner and beers unaware until too late that the Thursday special was $5 off pitchers and burgers... I wish the bar tender had mentioned when he gave us the menu. They did tell us there were no servers working that night so that could be the reason no one mentioned. We got a decent amount of food for 2 people, a bowl of chili, potato skins, corned beef sliders and onion rings. All the food was good and decent sized portions. Special call out to the onion rings which had a really good batter - I'm used to onion rings falling apart upon first bite and these held up. The establishment is pretty cool as it has a patio/smoking area, pool tables, pinball machine and darts. The crowd at the bar when we were sitting there had a few obnoxious patrons- they were being overly rowdy and loud and just wasn't giving the best of vibes. Had the rowdy crowd not been there to affect the experience and someone mentioned the specials or gave us a menu that contained the specials- I would have given this place 4 stars. read more

This place is a ton of fun! The food is good, the drinks are great and the people watching....even better! One of my favorite menu items is only sold on Thursdays, the Irish nachos and we add carnitas. So so so so good!!!!! The Irish nachos give the meat and cheese a nice touch of salt. We've also had it with regular chips and it's still pretty good! Fries are always good! Drink are always perfect! Very much enjoyed the st. Patrick event here, as it offered musical entertainment and different food options such as corn beef and Irish stew, which I had alongside some magical and delicious pale ale from local brewery Fall. They offer a nice selection of craft beers. The establishment had extra servers to accommodate for how busy it was. There was a line outside when we left about 7 pm. Next year I will come to the event earlier in order to get the corned beef dinner, as they had run out. read more

Stopped by before the SDFC vs LAFC game with my group of friends...I'm a LAFC fan, my friends are SDFC fans. The security guard at the door said it was a locals only bar, but he then laughed and let me in. I was literally the only LAFC fan inside, but the vibe was very chill. The service at the entrance was kind of weird, but after e entering to pick up my food it was ok. I didn't really enjoy the food, so I wouldn't recommend. Love this place! Great food, cocktails and atmosphere. The service is amazing and the staff make you feel like you're a regular from the moment you arrived. This a place worth visiting for lunch and dinner. Oh and they also have plenty of TV screens you can catch whatever game you want. Come for drinks but you stay for the food. Which isn't the reason you come to your neighborhood sports bar. Normally you find a spot for drinks and then leave to go get food elsewhere. McGregor's does it all - drinks, food, TVs, pool tables, darts, and patio space. Keep trying new things on their food menu as everything has been tasty. If you haven't tried it yet, their clam chowder and fish and chips hit the spot. They have daily specials for food and drinks written on a board where you'd order food. So don't forget to check that out. If you come for a SDFC or Padres game, they have themed drink specials for the night. It can get packed during game days. Parking lot is small. Great place to go for St. Patrick's Day! They had live music all day and a special menu for the holiday. All of the servers and bartenders were so nice and friendly, as were the other people in the bar. Good vibes and a good time celebrating. I had a couple of drinks and some fries, all of which I got very quickly even though the bar was absolutely packed. It was my fourth time coming here. Loved it the first couple of times the bartenders were great, but tonight we went after a concert, the door guy (already rude when asking for our IDs) checked all our IDs and then asked my friend how many drinks he had and he only had two the whole night ( we walked there from snapdragon and it's like a 15 minute walk) so we're a little sweaty from it but then tells my friend right away you can't come in so of course us girls were not going to go in without him. Friend was not stumbling, not swaying, not rude or didn't even talk until asked the question about how many drinks and he spoke very clearly.I will not return and will not recommend based on this encounter.Never felt this way before at an establishment...not the first time I've heard of the door guy acting like this either. read more

One of my fave spots in San Diego. Mcgregors is fantastic. I literally cannot go into this spot without ordering their chicken strips tossed in their kickin sauce. I don't find myself in the area too often but when I am in search of a bite and a drink while circling the neighborhood, McGregor's is a fun little pitstop, always has been. The food/drinks are on par with bar food and bar prices. Nothing is going to blow you away and this really isn't a place you'd take a date for dinner, but rather some drinks, snacks, and a few games of pool. The jukebox always seems to be kicking out some good tunes and the staff when sitting at the bar has always been very attentive. Hey, SD has a new soccer team that is making a big splash and this is definitely the place to be for the the games, especially the home games as people gather before heading just a few blocks away to catch the action live. read more

We have come to McGregor a couple of time after a San Diego Legion rugby match. The place has a nice atmosphere, offers lots of parking, and the service is great. They have great beer offerings and the food menu has ample choices to please most patrons. We've enjoyed the fish and chips on out past visits. We're sure to make another stop soon. I used to love this place. They advertise being open til 2am. It's 1:12 on a Saturday. Gabriel, informs us of last call. That's totally normal. I'm mid game of a pool match. He comes up and tells us to leave at 1:22. Doesn't let us finish, people still sitting at the bar drinking. He singles us out and informs us to leave. Bad services. Save yourself the trip and go down the street to stadium club. We ended up leaving and going to stadium club who allowed us a pool match and also last call at a later time. This place was good. Enjoyed it. They had live music. It was good. Karaokeish but I enjoyed it. Loved the songs he played and sang. Better than I can sing so entertaining for sure. The padres punch was good and frozen. A bit on the sweet side for me so opted for the kombucha for my second drink and liked it much better. The clam chowder wasn't too fishy tasting and good. I got the carnitas taco. I wasn't that impressed with it and probably wouldn't get tacos here again. I really liked the spinach salad. It was fresh and flavorful. The garlic bread that was served with it was perfectly crunchy. The Bavarian pretzel with cheese sauce was also good. It was buttery and delicious. The calamari was just ok. I like it better when its rings as they tend to be crunchier I didn't try the mahi mahi but the fries were good. Their tartar sauce didn't have a lot of flavor.
