My granddaughters wedding shower was held here this week and the ambiance was wonderful for such an event. It was located on the 3rd floor with an open deck facing the water. The service was impeccable from start to finish. I was met at the elevator with offers of help to carry in the decorations, run for tape,scissors or whatever was necessary to help pull this event together. The 3 women were experts at making it known we could count on them for anything at all. The food was stupendously tasty and the portions were generous to say the least.and we were pleasantly surprised when the servers cleared our plates from the table as we finished. Two nights in a row! With our kitchen being remodeled, we needed an excuse to try this new venue. I hate to give this place 5-Stars---Bleuroot is going to become 2017's Hit. In only 3 weeks I see this business doing extremely well. A very nice vibe amongst the patrons and the Bleuroot Team. Night 1: Charlie hit it out of the park with his recommendations. The charcuterie & cheese tray was a hit. Had to zap a photo and send to our Chef-Nephew. We finished the night w/the beef tenderloin sandwich and the grilled chicken breast. Mouth watering. Tonight: Laura helped us with our choices. Skirt steak & the halibut special. Oops, started w/the Caprese Flatbread. A huge portion (boxed half so we could enjoy main courses. Kevin and Nikki (the bartenders) are attentive, kind, they always have great recommendations, and truly make you feel at home ! Kevin will create unique cocktails using unique flavors from matcha green tea to homemade blueberry syrup. The food is locally sourced from farmers in the area. There are specials which change depending on the season since the food is farm to table. Pasta purses are amazing! Bao buns are delicious! Rosemary portobello frites are splendid with a side of chipotle mayo, yum! The various flatbreads are cooked to perfection! Soooooooo disappointing. Our server was Julie and she was informed three times that I have to avoid wheat, therefore am gluten-free. I ordered an entree, soup, and a beverage. The person I dined with ordered his food as well. After eatting the soup, the reaction in the body was painful (& also threw up). I said to Julie that the soup was supposed to be gluten-free but it must not be because of the reaction I was having. THEN she checked and said it DID have wheat in it, was NOT gluten-free, and that she had told the chef to make ONLY my entree gluten-free. Why would she think that a dietary requirement was only necessary in SOME of the food? Hmm. It is serious business when a customer tells the server about dietary requirements, & I told her so. Julie seemed unphased by that fact...almost a cold reaction, and it seemed that not informing the chef was done intentionally to cause the wheat/gluten reaction. Certainly I could not eat my entree or drink my beverage. So what was the response after numerous conversations with Julie and then the bartender playing manager for the day? "We'll comp the soup." Needless to say, I argued with them multiple times. Free soup after harming me? Unbelievable. Then he starting asking questions about the health reasons for being gluten-free. I informed him that I would not divulge my health history to him...it's none of his business. The cost of ones' health and the dollars necessary to spend for bringing it back into balance, was unimportant to Julie, and perhaps the bartender-manager. There was no offer to reimburse for that. They have lost valuable customers because of our recent experience and multiple mess-ups of the past visits. read more

We love this restaurant. Great food at surprisingly good prices. Servers are very friendly and beyond accommodating. More specifically, Niko is one of the best servers we ever had, if not the best. I'm always open to try new places and this is one of them I tried this evening. The ambience is very nice, my lemoncello martini was very good and same with the chicken tenders as an appetizer was very fresh, tender and flavorful. For dinner my friend and I had the spinach ravioli that came with braised short ribs. There is a lemon sauce on top that was a great compliment. The banana split for dessert with gelato was very good but a bit small. That's ok because the portions were moderately sized. The service was excellent as well. My man-friend ordered the beef tenderloin. Redemption! Redemption! We decided to go back here and give this place a second chance. The place was packed and we were told the wait was two hours (it was not) but we decided to fend for ourselves and find a spot at the bar. The bartender was delightful. A good mix of funny and not apologetic of not knowing particular answers to questions but quick to locate someone who did know the answer, which I appreciated (he mumbled "shit, I didn't go to the meeting" which I snickered at because I'd been there too man). He knew the beers and info on the local liquor. We made comments on what we didn't like on our last visit and he knew right away what we had. He directed us to what we should order on the menu and we were both very happy we took his suggestions. My boyfriend had the signature burger and added the bacon which comes from Wisconsin and has great flavor. Simple- but done well and cooked correctly. I had what sounds odd but tasted great. It was the seasonal sweet pea toast. It's an open-faced fresh panini bread w/ smashed sweet peas, tahini, olive tapenade, crumbled feta cheese & cracked black pepper. What made it even better is the secret that you add oil and chicken. So. Good. The ONLY thing I would change would be cutting the toast as it's a bit hard to maneuver the Sandal-esque pieces you're presented with. read more

This was our spontaneous and random choice off of Google maps since we were in the area yesterday for lunchtime. The menu online intrigued me especially when I saw shrimp avocado ceviche which my husband loves. I was delighted at seeing Farm to Table which in my opinion will be a higher quality protein for my money. The hostess quickly sat us at a quaint wrought iron table on the upper balcony overlooking the beautiful river walk. We were provided the drink list as well as food menus. The mixed speciality drinks were a bit steep starting at $12 and up. So we opted for a White Claw and Corona priced right on par with other restaurants. As an appetizer we ordered the ceviche of course, an entree of the Bleuroot Signature Burger, and a create your own chicken sandwich. The sandwiches all come with a side which is a variety of options and we both agreed we needed the mac and cheese to satisfy our tastebuds. The ceviche was ordered and devoured as fast as it was handed to us. The sweet and fresh assortment of chopped shrimp, lime juice, onions, minced peppers, and avocado delivered with 3 small crackers was decadent! My only complaint that for $12 more chips should have been plated when you're sharing with another person. My burger was a perfect medium rare as requested and topped with a gooey blue cheese and carmelized onions on a brioche bun. I could seriously go for another right now and I'm not a big beef person!! He received his fresh chicken sandwich with cheddar cheese, jalapenos, and something else but couldn't tell you what. It came nestled in a focaccia bun and when asked how it was with a mouth full of food he said "absolutely delicious"! Score!!! So for a random search on the internet this was a prize!!! Do yourself a favor and go outside the box once in a while because you might just come across a gem. It's nice to eat outside the area once in a while and this is a perfect example of why we may do it just a tad bit more. They've got my vote!!! read more

I was so excited about this restaurant and wanted so badly to love it. But I didn't. Here's my breakdown: Pro's: Ambiance - The restaurant is gorgeous. Beautifully decorated, very rustic and clean Staff - The staff was very accommodating. Joe was our waiter and even though in the beginning he was quite absent, he definitely made up for it at the end. Even the waiter next to us, Kevin, came over and talked to us for a minute. Cons: They sat us at a table that was literally right by the waiter station/computer (picture attached). When we first sat down, my friends chair was a foot from the computer. Two waiters came by and we're truly reaching over/behind her to punch in their order on the computer. We got up and moved the table down at least 3 feet, but it was still very annoying that someone came over every few mins to punch in their order. Don't put a table there! Put a proper station if you must! There was tin foil in my cocktail. Mistake, I know. The food was just ok. The best part of our meal was the Kale salad and corn chowder we each had prior to our meal. But my friends burger and my salmon were just ok. Not bad, not great. I felt like we could have gotten a better meal at a cheap franchise restaurant. We waited a looooooooong time. We got to the restaurant early for our reservation and they sat us right away. But we then waited over an hour for food. Joe kindly offered gelato as an apology, but after all this, we really just wanted to leave. For the money we paid, it was absolutely not worth it. I normally do not eat dishes like this but the way it is prepare it is just a treat. The best part of going to bleuroot is the bartender! The pasta and filet that was ordered in our party was ok but not at the price point. Overall, most disappointing was the service. I went here at lunch time and I was disappointed all together. Seemed like a new restaurant so here is my breakdown of my experience. Ambience: The place is very aesthetically nice. It had wood paneling around and felt very comfortable. Service: unfortunately, the service was slow. There were only 2 other tables in the restaurant but the whole dining experience took 2 and 1/2 hours. I can't be really blame the service due to the fact that it might be the kitchen that was holding up the service itself. The server did seem to be disgruntled as the time passed. One thing I must say, was that the server kept a full bottle of water on the table so we did not have to keep waiting for water. Food: The dishes came out looking nice. Other than that, not sure what happened here... the food was not that good. We ordered the sliders. The sliders was basically a sliced meat with a pickle between a bun. The meat did not taste anything special, slightly dry for my tastes. Adding the horseradish or bacon jam did give it some flavor but it was not that impressive. Maybe include some jus which hopeful can give it more flavor. The French fries were soggy. It did not have a crunch to them so it was also dissapointing. Comparing these sliders to other places like Chili's or Houlihan's, this dish fell flat for me. Speaking of flat, the flat bread was disappointing as well. It was nothing special from what I had from other places. The flat bread portion seemed disproportionate when I was eating which had me taking bites of just bread. Maybe, cutting the bread into triangles which can help with not getting those areas where you just eat flat bread by itself. The sea bass was bland. The only thing on that dish that had some taste was the greens. It needed salt and the marinade did not really come through. Also, not sure if the fish was over marinated but the filet looked kind of chewed up. The color of the dish was very beige, other than the greens that came with it. Recommendation would be to either to order the salmon (which should have a natural salmon taste or... salt. The mac n cheese was good. I would probably say it was the best thing ordered from the food. It wasn't mind blowing but it was done pretty well, especially compared to the other food. The last was the salad. Oddly enough it was the opposite spectrum in terms of flavor. Unfortuantely it did not taste good for the table. For the most part it tasted off especially when you had some of the smashed/minced olives that were everywehre. It got worse when we took a bite of a suspicious lemon looking piece and sort of plague our taste buds for a bit. We did order dessert and it came out after 30 min of ordering it. The dessert was good. The cake itself was moist so atleast it was an up for the end of the meal. Overall: It was a disappointing meal that took too long. This is not meant be mean, but when it takes about 3 hours for a meal, it is hard not to get critical. This seems like this restaurant is a new restaurant, so there are plenty of time to improve, but for me, I would not recommend this restaurant for at least a month to get settled if they improve their cook time, food, and service. read more

I'm going with 5 stars because I really appreciate what they are doing, beautifully crafted dishes with local ingredients and delicious cocktails! They get everything locally and change the menu seasonally because they are only using the freshest ingredients. I had the hummus platter and was shocked at the giant portion of fresh veggies like broccoli and jicama(my favorite was the jalapeño lime hummus). I also asked them to give me half potato chips half flat bread points (think pita chips not toasted pita) and the chips are delicious!!! I also indulged in the grilled cheese... WOW!! The sandwich was on huge slices of buttery, toasted, sourdough with tons of cheese, so much bacon not one inch was left uncovered, and yummy arugula. Great space, good bar, subpar food and mismanaged service. After our food came out we sat for 15 minutes without silverware or napkins. Apparently they didn't have enough forks and knives to spread out among a not even half full restaurant. Felt bad for the server because he was a nice guy and it wasn't his fault. Once we finally ate the food was cold and bland. Manager lady came around to touch tables at the end of our experience and when I told her about the issues we had she apologized and said they would roll up more silverware for service next time. We didn't ask for a comp but an offer to do something would have been nice I suppose. Idk but it seems like every time we come here hoping it'll live up to their good branding but the food usually falls flat. Will return eventually but most likely only for drinks. read more

Everything about this place -- from the aesthetic to the "farm-to-table" designation to the prices -- say "fine dining" ... except the food. Everything was fine, but missing that something extra/special that we'd hoped to find in this new addition to Dundee. The charcuterie board was great. It's hard to mess up a cheese tray, but I will say this one included the only blue cheese Husband has ever enjoyed. I usually get it all to myself, but not this time. We thought it was a sign of great things to come, but were soon set straight. Husband's noodle bowl was fine, but bland. The apricot horseradish-glazed chicken was dull as well (as was the couscous that came with it, which was still more than I can say for the "seasonal vegetables" which were ... missing). I was skeptical of flourless chocolate lava cake, but it was really great. May have been the best part of the meal. The service was lacking, which I can forgive for a new place, but it was just one more thing by the end of the evening. Our server was nice enough, but we'd decided on an appetizer, drinks, and meals before anyone even brought water to the table. I ordered coffee with dessert, but - even though the server made a point to mention that the flourless cake takes longer - it came out immediately. I put the saucer on top of the mug to try to keep it warm until dessert came out. There is definitely potential here. I really hope we come back in a few years and they've either attracted a skilled chef, or the head chef here has taken continuing ed seriously. A+ for effort. I hope this place comes into its own in a year or two. For now, pretty standard fare, and not worth the fine-dining prices. read more
