I want to like this place but I can't. It has so much potential but alas their service and prices prevent it. I want to support local restaurants but they make it hard to do. As others have mentioned their prices are high. Drinks especially. I don't mind spending when it's worth it, but there is not that much I would go out of my way for. The menu is all over the place and I am not sure what they want to be. Anyhow, We stopped in on our way to Dickens in Dundee at about 5pm. There were people at the bar but maybe only 2 tables occupied in the front room. The staff jumped all over us to tell us they were NOT taking walk ins. We told them we just wanted to stop for a drink on our way to the festivities. They repeated no walk ins and that all tables were reserved and there was no room at the bar. WTH? First off, who turns away people that want to spend money on your overpriced drinks? Secondly, I am certain that all those tables were not reserved that early. Third their space is pretty large, there is a back room and an upper level. If someone wanted to spend money in your establishment wouldn't you take it? read more

Came across this gem after a Sunday morning walk. We were looking for lunch but after reviewing the menus we opted for brunch and weren't disappointed . We had the breakfast panini and the biscuits & gravy which were both tasty & different than the norm. I would agree with other reviews stating that they didn't care for the Bloody Mary - it appeared to me homemade with chunky ingredients and I wouldn't recommend it either. The atmosphere is beautiful and you can have your choice of high tops, booths or the bar. The service is a little laid back so if you're not into a relaxed meal beware. read more

We came here on a Saturday night for a double date night. Our friend was researching restaurants in the area and Bleuroot caught his eye. I have to say that I'm very happy he suggested coming here! We made reservations and were seated almost right away. The atmosphere was amazing and a live pianist was playing this evening. I'm not sure if that's a regular thing but it was a real treat having him play Disney songs throughout dinner. We were all so happy. The menu was impressive. I really appreciate the local approach. It is something I would gladly pay extra to know where my food is coming from. This was not a cheap date night by any means, but I feel like for the quality of food it was reasonable. I had a salad to start and it was a strawberry spinach one with bleu cheese. I loved it so much I almost ordered another one. For dinner I had spinach ravioli with marinara sauce and I was very satisfied. I definitely want to come here again and try more of the menu! read more

Okay I would give Bleuroot 10 stars if I could because my choice of food, the Bleuroot Flatbread on gluten free crust, was SO GOOD!!! Seriously, try this!! It has Fig preserve, caramelized onions, crumbled bleu cheese, arugula & sliced red grapes - so basically all of my favorite toppings. The other people at my table loved their dinners as well! Two of these included the caprese flatbread and one of the specials - the buffalo chicken flatbread. I can't wait to return just to be able to have this flatbread again. I also had a cider on tap, which was a fruity flavor and good as well. The only downside was that we were there at 6:30pm on a Sunday and around 7:50pm, you could tell that our server and the staff were cleaning up and really wanted us to leave. That made it super awkward so we felt obligated to leave and find another business nearby to hangout at. It was weird because online (on the maps app) it is listed that they close at 9pm so we thought we had another hour. And, I just checked their website and the bar is open till 10pm, so it's a big bummer they kicked us out! read more

With a certain level of doubt, I meandered through the streets of West Dundee on a humid Thursday evening with this new restaurant as my destination. It was a very existentialist type of evening for me as I wandered through the maze of beautiful old farmhouses. Just pondering the meaning of life and really looking forward to a great experience for my bored taste buds. Walking through those doors made my millennial hipster senses tingle with excited anticipation. Maybe this would be more than another mediocre, overpriced, hipster joint with snobby bartenders! The atmosphere was just so welcoming and clean. Wood slab floors (check) Bare brick Wall (check) Edison Light fixtures dangling from the ceiling (check) Clean and sleek bar (check) Plopping down at the bar, I received attention from the bartender Brian immediately. He's the kind of attentive and friendly that people used to be. You know...prior to Facebook and Tinder, when we actually had to talk face to face to make friends. I'm really curious... is Brian an octopus-alien (like you would see in Men In Black)? He seemed to be present everywhere. He was waiting all the tables at the same time that he whipped up my drink and made fantastic recommendations. I think one of his magical tentacles was mixing up my masterfully delicious old-fashioned, while another tentacle served the couple on the other end of the bar. Not sure how he works his extraterrestrial magic...but its awesome. In short, he's a great bartender, server, manager or whatever he is! On to the food, I have stopped eating red meat and pigs...personal convictions blah blah blah. But for some reason, I decided to cheat and try the Bao Bao BBQ. It was delicious. The sauce was fantastic but the best part was honestly those soft, pillowy buns. They tasted how I imagined Cumulus Clouds would taste, when I was a child. Anyway, without further ado, here's the bottom line. Although Bleu Root may feel like just another hoity toity, hipster farm-to-table joint, its actually a good restaurant. We started out with the charcuterie board that the bartender so wonderfully told us each and every item on the boards and how he would recommend pairing them. Seriously, the service from him was out of this world and SO appreciated. The goats milk cheese on the board was by far the best cheese I've ever eaten. They also had some sort of cracker thing with nuts and dried fruits in it; sounds gross but it was amazing!!!! I had the spinach ravioli on a bed of short ribs that were so tender and sooooooo juicy I of course joined the clean plate club. My boyfriend got the Siracha pulled pork bonmi tacos.. The bartenders second favorite item on the menu- and mine was the first. The flavors were great, and everything tasted to fresh. We enjoyed the charcuterie and cheese plate very much. The BBQ Pork bao sandwich was unusual but good. (They use bao dough but it's open-faced.) The grilled cheese was tasty. Roasted vegetables were good. Avocado toast was bland and hard to eat - the bread and long cucumber ribbons were too hard to cut through with a table knife but the sandwich was also difficult to pick up and eat. The corn and poblano chowder was too spicy for me. The service was prompt and attentive but a bit odd, beginning with our waitress apologizing profusely for not noticing our table because she'd been in the bathroom. (Not something you really want to think about as a diner.) It's a beautiful room with a lovely view of the river. We're local so we'll be back. One of the best meals I've had in a long while! Love that they have so many vegan options! I opted for the Thai Grain Pilaf with tofu. I asked for some extra spice and it came out perfect! I do want to start off by saying I understand that it was Dundee's unofficial St Patty's Day celebration, but still....my experience here was unacceptable. I came here last night with my boyfriend and another couple. It started with me noticing that my purse seemed "wet" at the top. I looked at it, and I couldn't figure out what would have caused it....then our hummus appetizer arrived (missing the flatbread crackers), and we went to grab a plate, and they were a DIRTY stack of plates!! The first one was clean, but the ones under that were dirty with other peoples' food! Our appetizer flatbread came out shortly after, and it was burnt....the inedible type of burnt. I found the hostess, let her know, and in the meantime found out that my purse was wet because there was still remains on the table from the last people that sat there! My purse had someone else's sauce on it!! Our waiter replaced the flatbread, we got new plates, the waiter brought out the flatbread crackers, and our table got cleaned.... But no one ever even asked us if we wanted to order dinner!! The new flatbread came out probably 20 minutes later, and still nothing.... Our experience ended with us asking for the check...we didn't get charged for the flatbread, didn't receive much of an apology, and then we went and ate dinner at Emmett's down the street. I had the salmon and it was very flavorful. The rice had subtle vegetables in it that really made it pop. The gluten free options seemed decent, as my friend is GF. Her meal looked delicious and the dessert was actually good, as it was also gluten free. Finished the night off with a stroll by the river. So we came for our monthly night out. We made reservations, which were a bit tricky because we had a party of 7 and they didn't do odd numbers. So we had to do 6 and add one more in the comments box. But when we arrived they had seating for 7 ready for us. The food was good. We all ordered different things and two separate appetizers and there have been no complaints. I ordered the drink of the month and a portion of the price is going toward their clean water program in Haiti. Which was nice. The service and our waitress were so very attentive and did a fantastic job on waiting on our party of six. Man what a fresh restaurant! I'm happy Bleuroot is here! I truly feel this restaurant can hip up our little downtown. They are keen on fresh produce and you can definitely believe it for sure! Food is phenomenal and I am unsure what days they have an amazing deal of 1/2 off beer flights but it's a definite must. The interior looks very rustic and pubby and the food comes out beautifully. I really want this place to do well.. I truly do. But it needs to work out some serious kinks. We had a party of 8; we had a round of cocktails standing at the bar while we waited to be seated for about half an hour; the cocktails were fantastic; the head bartender definitely knew his way around the bar. After being seated and placing our entree orders it took over an hour and 15 minutes for the first half of the entrees to come out (we had a party of 8). Then it took another 30 minutes for the second half of the entrees to come out. The manager was extremely apologetic and did comp our meals. However instead of just saying sorry and owning up to the fact that something was wrong and needed to change she tried to say that they had been overrun and there wasn't anything that could have been done about it. The food that came out was very dry and tasteless. Don't order the salmon whatever you do (why is salmon being served at a farm to table restaurant anyways?) We seriously thought the chef had up and left and the wait staff was trying to fill the orders. In conclusion I really hope a change happens because we need restaurants like this in Dundee. read more

To start, our waitress was so knowledgeable and made us feel like a regular from the moment we walked in the door. The ambiance is amazing. From the lights to the woodwork, it's a place you can sit and have drinks for hours. We started with the charcuterie plate. The crispy cinnamon raisin bread paired with the honey glazed blue cheese is to die for and Paired with the black stallion Chardonnay is a must try. I had the sweet pea toast which was out of this world. The sweet pea paired with the olive tapenade was amazing! My husband had the beef tenderloin. I need to start with the "bad", since the rest is great! 1. The hours on their website do not match the hours on their front door. The website says they open from 9am-2pm for brunch on Saturdays. We got there at about 10am, only to see that the 9am sticker on the door had been overlapped by an "11". Not removed and replaced, just plastered over. Please please please be consistent with the hours that you list online. We only drove 30 minutes to get there, but then we had to figure out how to waste an hour in the heat and humidity. (However - bonus to you guys for even being open with how badly that river was flooded. That was nuts.) 2. Our parmesan roasted fingerling potatoes weren't served at first (which was ok, we got a few extra fries I think), but they weren't good at all once we tried them. Very dry with no flavor. I tried putting more salt on them, dipping them in some ketchup for moisture - nothing worked. Perhaps they were hastily made? They could really use some TLC either way! And now for the great! 1. Super friendly staff! Mary was our waitress, and she also had a gentleman training with her. He said he also works at All Grass Farms, which is awesome since we just did a tour there the other week. One of the employees also changed the TV station for us since golf was on (eww) and we wanted to watch Fixer Upper. :) Really, a very friendly and accommodating staff. 2. I love the interior. Modern but cozy, a touch of industrial, bright and airy. Since we were the first patrons there, we got out first pick of seating! 3. We ordered a burger with bacon and blue cheese. The cheese was so creamy and bursting with fresh blue cheese flavor. And the bacon - do they know how to serve it cut thick or what?! Now that stuff was heaven-sent for sure. I haven't had the pleasure of having that awesome of bacon in a while. My fiance had been craving a pretzel bun, and he loved this one. It was toasted perfectly and great all-around. The bibb lettuce and heirloom tomato were both super fresh. My only criticism is that the burger patty was quite a bit smaller than the bun. A couple of extra ounces would really go a long way for that entree, but you could absolutely taste the quality of it all. 4. The french fries were awesome. I know that might be odd to rave about, but they were perfectly cooked and had the perfect amount of salt on them. Really great! 5. The grilled cheese, my new love. It was bursting with so much yummy cheese and so much flavor! The arugula was a great addition, again delicious heirloom tomato, and THAT BACON. The bread was nice and thick, had a great crunch to it, and awesome garlic flavor (but not over-powering). Overall we loved our meal and time spent here. I get that the place is still a little new and things get worked out. I wish I had room for dessert, but we were pleasantly stuffed! Finally made it in today & we were so excited to try this place! We were greeted by the owner or manager-clearly someone high up & he showed us around a bit, so friendly. We picked a booth across from the bar so we could watch the Bears game-perfect! Then it all started to fall apart... One great thing about Bleuroot is they clearly mark anything that is Vegan, Vegetarian or Gluten Free, or can be modified to be such, they have GF buns & flatbread. Our sweet waitress Ashley brings us the brunch menus & I notice they have a Bloody Mary-which I love! So I ask her if she knows if the mix is housemade & if so, is it GF? She doesn't know so she goes to ask, two waiters immediately go upstairs to ask someone. They come back & confirm it's gluten free so I order a Bloody Mary. I take one sip & think "this tastes like it has beer in it." So I ask her, she confirms that they never put beer in their Mary's-okay great. I take another sip-definitely tastes like beer. I let it sit because I'm 99 percent sure it has beer in it but I also don't want to be a B about it. I taste it one last time a few mins later-beer. At this point I look up to catch the bartender Kevin(not one of the guys who went to ask about the mix btw) making a Bloody Mary-guess what? He totally puts a hit of Blue Moon in it! so I'm not crazy-my supposedly GF Mary has beer in it. Ashley comes back & I mention to her "hey I just watched the bartender make a Mary & he definitely put beer in it." She goes right over & says something to him. His response? "We put beer in all our Bloody Mary's-that's why they're not marked GF." Dude-none of the drinks on your menu are marked GF-that's not how drink menus work. Ashley even says to us that the mimosas on the brunch menu aren't marked GF but are so his excuse is a bunch of BS. Especially since a traditional Mary is inherently GF. No apology from him, not even a hint of remorse that he just glutened me. Thanks Kevin! I'll be thinking of you when I'm sick tomorrow. So that was a BIG strike one for me. If you take the time to mark your food items as GF, your waitstaff should be trained. Also-why would I ask if the mix was GF if I wanted beer in it? Training! Onto the food. My husband ordered the crab cake Benedict-had to send it back because the whites on the poached egg were slimy & raw. Strike 2. I ordered the breakfast flatbread (GF of course). What came out was a flatbread with scrambled eggs unevenly spread on 4 pieces, 2 pieces of mushroom on 1 slice & a slimy strawberry as garnish. Clearly no care went into the prep of that dish. Strike 3. Then randomly they put quinoa in their side of hashbrowns(which are clearly cut up fries, actually very tasty!) it was a bit of a surprise. Ashley took my drink back & I ordered something different, I didn't get the right drink but by now I was so done with Bleuroot I didn't care. It was the Bleu Mule, which was tasty-just not what I ordered. We had to hunt her down to get the check, which still had the Bloody Mary on it. Thankfully when she came back she took it off. Overall a huge disappointment both in service & in care of preparing food. The food wasn't anything spectacular & the bartenders attitude about essentially making a customer sick was appalling. Bleuroot is a little gem on the Fox River in West Dundee. This farm to fork restaurant serves up creative and delicious dishes in a comfortable and clean setting. There's ample seating between the two dining spaces and bar, so there's never a wait. We like to pop in for a cocktail and appetizers like flatbread and empanadas, but we've had a full dinner experience that was top notch, too. If you're looking for veg or gluten free, there's menu options that should suit that bill. They bring in musicians on the weekends and are very active in the community which is great around holidays like Christmas and Pride weekend. bleuroot is a brand new restaurant on the river in West Dundee. To start, the location and interior of the restaurant are fantastic. The front of the restaurant features a large bar, high top seating and booths while the rear of the restaurant features tables with fantastic Fox River views and the best deck dinning in the area. The menu is global with an ingredient forward farm to table focus. We had the ceviche, rice noodle bowl and capellini. The capellini was the star of the three with a light but balanced flavors. All of the dishes were reasonably sized and beautifully presented. Deserts included a espresso pane cotta and an amazing berry shortbread on fennel raisin toast special (sounds weird but tastes incredible!). Overall, a great start. I'd love to see another meat dish featuring local beef or pork on the menu and hope the chef is permitted to take advantage of the seasonal fresh vegetables available in the western suburbs. Bleuroot provides options you can't find without driving a half hour South or west. Try them out. If this is how they start - the future is very bright. read more

We REALLY REALLY wanted to love this place but it is just okay. The first time we went, we went with a group of friends and ordered 4 different items: salmon, veggie burger, rice noodles, and mac & cheese. All of them were just average. This was when they first opened so we decided to give them a second shot even though the food was mediocre, under seasoned, and over-priced. The second time we went, I ordered the bleu root flatbread and my husband ordered the rice noodles again (but specifically asked for more seasoning). The waiter had mentioned that everything was made to order so we could substitute anything we desired. I had asked if they could hold the blue cheese on half of the flatbread and substitute it for mozzarella instead. The waiter said that that couldn't be done and I would have to pick between one cheese or the other. I'm not sure why they couldn't sprinkle a different cheese on half the flatbread (even pizza hut can do this) but I decided to go with the mozzarella because I dislike blue cheese (the half with blue cheese was going to be for my husband but too bad for him). I thought the flatbread was delicious and would definitely go back for more of that! The $18 rice noodles were a completely different story. They were somehow even more bland than they were the first time we had them. The noodles were brittle and chalky and sitting in some watery, tasteless soup. It was absolutely inedible. Save your $18 and go drink a cup of water...that would taste better. My husband was ready to give up on this restaurant after the last horrible experience but like I said we REALLY REALLY wanted to love this place. We saw that they had a special brunch menu on the weekends so we tried the restaurant again. I had their brunch flatbread (because I had such a good experience with their flatbread the last time) and my husband had their omelet. Both were huge portions! The omelet came with a side of quinoa and small potatoes cubes which I've never seen before. It was quite delicious. We probably won't be coming back here anytime soon for lunch or dinner but their brunch was decently priced and good. We also sat in the back of the restaurant and had a really nice view of the river. We enjoyed the fact that they have a farm stand on the side of the restaurant on the weekends. The one negative thing is you don't get to try the produce like you might at an actual farm stand but most of their produce is reasonable priced. Bleuroot - 2017 Summer Menu - New American Near Me - West Dundee, Illinois

I went to Bleuroot for an early dinner today with two former colleagues. First of all, the restaurant was incredibly helpful to us. One of our party is confined to a wheelchair, and although most dining tables are the higher ones, the management brought a table to us to accommodate his disability. Second, the menu provided had a nice variety of appealing looking items to select. Our waitress vas very polite and friendly. She took or orders politely and efficiently, and was attentive to us as well. The food was also excellent. Two in our party had beef tenderloin sliders, while one person ordered a dish with pulled pork. We were very satisfied with our selections as well. Although we would have liked to sit outside for our meal, it was not yet warm enough for that, so we decided that we will do that on our next visit there.
