We had an exceptional night at this restaurant last night. Dinners out are hard to come by as parents of small children and this was made even more special by having friends in for the evening. Service was wonderful, the food was great and the overall ambiance was warm and welcoming. No pictures of the food because we enjoyed too quickly but the Oyster app, filet mignon, salmon and pot roast & pasta sheet entrees were stand outs. S'mores martinis with bread pudding and apple crisp finished the evening off perfectly. Our entrees included the corn beef and cabbage special, the outstanding Codfish special and I always get their filet mignon as its ALWAYS exceptional and I get Filet at most of the high end restaurants and here it's cooked to perfection. My wife and I met friends for an after work dinner. We arrived at our reservation time and were promptly seated. We had a corner table on the outside deck. Shortly after our entire party arrived, our waitress came to the table to take drink orders. Since one of our colleagues had been to The restaurant before she made ordering easy. The appetizers arrived promptly and we all shared. I throughly enjoyed the meatball sliders and the lightly seasoned, Asian wings. The meatballs were made with a mixture of veal, beef and pork bathed in a light marinara sauce. They were delicious. The Asian wings had a slight zing, just enough for me. This appetizer was equally as delicious. Just an aside, the bread brought to the table is made in house and very tasty. The entrees arrived nice and hot. I ordered the rigatoni bolognese. A bit disappointing. Not because the entree was not tasty, it is more because, I am not accustomed to the way the bolognese sauce was made. As I said, it was tasty but it may take getting used to. For desert, I ordered an apple crisp and a cappuccino. The cappuccino was good, regrettably, the apple crisp was not. To drink, I recommended a delightful red wine for the table: Elsa Bianchi Malbec from San Rafael Mendoza, Argentina. It was very good. The Takeaways: 1. Ample parking 2. The food experience blew me away! The freshness, presentation, taste, quality of the dishes are raised to another level. I started off with the S'mores Martini. It was beautiful and delicious ...a must try! We ordered Oysters Rockefeller and Thai calamari as appetizers. Now, I've never been a fan of Oysters Rockefeller but these were sublime. I'm drooling just thinking about how good they were! The Thai calamari were cooked perfect. They were light and had the perfect balance of sweetness and heat. Highly recommend. Entrees ordered: Chicken pot pie, Asian BBQ Spare Ribs (special of the day), pork chops, chilean sea bass, skirt steak, mushroom ravioli. Where do I begin? The presentation of each of these dishes was so pleasing to the eye. Now that they wowed me, our tastebuds went on a trip to another dimension. ALL the meat dishes were tender and melt-in-your-mouth. The crust on the chicken pot pie was awesome and all the veggies inside were fresh. The sea bass was on point, fresh, seasoned to perfection. The raviolis are homemade! Thin and decadent with a sauce that could make you cry. Desserts were all yummy ...nutella gelato, NY cheesecake, creme brulee - all AMAZING. The staff are all attentive and friendly. I give it a 2 because the service was nice and we had one good dish out of 4. It is the kind of place where you are literally sitting on top of everyone else table-wise. No space or privacy of conversation. But that was not why I am so unhappy writing this. The burrata salad - eww. Not warm or creamy just a few pieces of cold arugula and some raisin sized cold beets with a little bit of cold cheese. Don't do it. The chicken pot pie appetizer was the BEST thing we had - and the crispy top was divine. For that, I say great job! Short Ribs were so salty that I could not even complete a bite of it - I was bloating from the brackishness before I even finished the bite! I dared not to take another. The Chilean sea bass was overcooked and chewy. OMG - for $40 per entrée this is the furthest thing from a joyful meal. I did tell the server nicely that is was not tasty but did not send anything back (what is the point if that is how they cook?). She said she would pass along the info. I had a scheduled reservation here on Friday. Didn't specify on the reservation indoor or outdoor. Got there and felt I was interrupting the two 15 year olds at the host stand. Was pouting rain and they were about to sit us outside underneath a tiny umbrella. We asked to go inside. They said they had nothing but go up to the bar and sit it fills up fast. So the restaurant obviously had no care for the people that were outside. People were leaving. The steak was terrible and the calamari was terrible. Chef, if you're going to charge $27 for a hanger steak, it better be kick ass. I order this dish, What the HELL are you thinking when plating, Close Encounters? Just pile everything on top of mashed potatoes. ewww... My grandfather used to say, I don't like nor trust salted butter. I now understand why. I knew I shouldn't have ordered Balsamic Vinegar Hanger Steak. It doesn't go well together and why hid all the flavors or the meat with a vinegar? Is this even a marinade for meat? Nasty.. My wife ordered the Red Snapper, Just covered in fruit and veggies. She said it was ok, it tasted like frozen fish to me. $9 glasses of wine, a little high priced but not bad. So I grab my waitress (who was great) and tell her I can't finish my meal, the steak is horrible. She takes away my $27 unfinished meal and brings me a free dessert from the chef. This place is interesting; it's styled beautifully to look like a fancy dining car as part of an old styled passenger train, which makes for a truly unique dining experience. You may not be ready to dine in such a unique environment, so I made a small list of items that other Yelpers should consider bringing before they dine here: Salt and pepper - cause there's none on the table. Hearing aid- it's so loud in here that you can't hear who you're eating with. Can opener- they pack you in here like you're sardines. In addition you'll be to sure enjoy chatting up your fellow diners sitting at their tables while you stand in the line for the restaurants solitary bathroom. I'm being a jerk about this, but honestly one bathroom with a line that jets directly into the dining room is just a terrible design flaw. read more

Had an anniversary dinner at Bliss on Sunday. We got there early and enjoyed the quiet, intimate atmosphere. She loved the sweet potato bisque. I had the bliss salad and it was very good. I had the beef short ribs, both tender an tasty. She had the red snapper, both light and flaky. For desert, she had the chocolate mousse, which she said was delicious. Steve, our very attentive server, suggested the blueberry napoleon. It was also delicious too. (Thanks, Steve). The owner was also over to see us a number of times. Very good experience. Minor complaints are that the bread was late and the mousse was garnished with a very, very tart strawberry. The small, uni-sex bathroom was odd. We will definitely be back. read more

Yesterday we celebrated Valentine's Day at Bliss in East Setauket. Always enjoy the food here and was not disappointed with the Chilean Sea bass or any of the appetizers or desserts. This was a special fixed price menu for Valentine's Day. It was the most expensive of any of the local specials. No one seemed to know what the price was. Waitress said one thing, ad on line said something else, and the bill was an itemized bill of each item we ordered. Twenty dollars for cauliflower bisque! Really? A delicious meal was spoiled by feeling we had been taken advantage of and had experienced price gouging. read more

First impression NOISY it was noisy calling to make a reservation it was noisy when I called back many hours later to adjust dining time and it was noisy when we arrived for dinner and could barely get to our table because people were dancing near the entrance. Waitress was pleasant but she was missing more than she was around. When you asked her about the food she offered very general responses which really wasn't helpful. Food took a long time to come out and when it did presentation was lovely. We had the shrimp and pasta with crab in tarragon sauce. Tasty and the Shrimp were a nice size. Great place and wonderful atmosphere. They had live music. It was my first time here and i was pleasantly surprised. It is small and quaint. The staff were very attentive and so nice. Tonight my boyfriend and I went to Bliss for our Valentine's Day dinner. Our reservation was at 4 o'clock. We pulled into the parking lot at 3:55. We get out of the car and both realized we didn't have any way of paying for our dinner. We get back in the car and call them to cancel. Conversation goes like this ... ME : Hi, I have a reservation today at 4 for two and unfortunately I have to cancel. Ron : As in today, like in 3 mins? ME : Yeaaa, we actually forgot our wallets so we have no way of paying. He then asked me if this was our Valentine's Day dinner. I of course said yes. He then proceeded to have us come in because he didn't want our Valentine's Day dinner ruined. I said no no. He still kept insisting we come in. He has trust in us that we called later in the night or tomorrow to pay them. We felt horrible, but we took the offer. The food, the atmosphere, and the service was amazing. This was our second time coming. But tonight was just one for the books. Beyond thankful! I honestly can't put into words what you did for us. Belly up to the bar and experience a truly blissful bar experience, and a good chat with a friendly bar tender. The place has it's regulars but they welcome everyone. Excellent Service and Wonderful Dining experience in heated outdoor tent. We are still hesitant to dine indoors during these times but wanted to celebrate an over due Birthday so made a reservation for the outdoor tent. Decorated beautifully and equipped with several heaters we found it very cozy even on a chilly night especially after being provided with blankets for our legs. The service could not have been more friendly or accommodating. The food was excellent as it always is. Love the pesto hummus they serve with the bread. Try the Thai Calamari appetizer or the mushroom ravioli. Delicious. Very reasonable wine list as well. Can't wait to return again. read more

We've been here several times, and the food never seems to disappoint. It's not an overly large restaurant, so reservations are a must...especially on a Friday or Saturday during peak dining hours. There's an outdoor eating area too on a balcony, which is always nice if the weather permits. The house appetizer is bread with hummus, which is very tasty. Highly recommend the calamari, served in a white cream sauce, as an appetizer. The short ribs with mashed potatoes are incredible, as the ribs fall apart with a twist of the fork. My wife got the lobster risotto and had great things to say about it. She's also super critical about creme brûlée, and when she ordered it, I almost cringed thinking about the impending critiques and disappointment. I was wrong. It was prepared perfectly, from the consistency of the actual custard to the topping.
