I went in on August 18th 2026 to get a lobster dinner for my mother's birthday. I had set this up the week before with a very nice waiter.When I was dining dinner there. I confirmed the day before they said it was set up.I came in that morning.They were working on it. I asked for them to crack it as my mother is in a nursing home, they did that.Everything was with it.They put some extra things.It was terrific. They make sure I had all of the supplis i needed. Welp...another visit - few years later. Not good enough to come back regularly. 8:15 on Saturday evening. Dining room still had a few tables of people eating. Main dining area, many tables were dirty. Cleared off, but dirty. During entire visit, nobody wiped them off. Maybe because it was close to end of night, but still looks bad to diners. Greeted warmly by manager, and our waitress was lovely. Very smiley and very attentive. My husband ordered prime rib and i got marinated NY shell steak, medium with lobster bisque. Their lobster bisque has been a staple for years, but now it's just not good. It was weird. Less creamy and odd taste. My steak...The edges were cooked well, but next cut in..it was mooing. Sent it back to be refired. Came back better. Tasted good, but kinda tough. Very nice offer, the waitress wanted to give me another sweet potato since i ate it all while waiting for my steak. Food was really bad. Steak and coconut shrimp. 35 dollars. Steak size of a hocky puck ...much smaller actually. Taken from back of fridge completely dry and microwaved. Looked terrible. 3 little dry old shrimp tossed on a plate with no presentation. I laughed at the dish and sent back. No macaroni salad before dinner. And the salad that came with dinner was warm..and soggy. My wife's prime rib came with broccoli in a little plastic cup..ice cold. This place needs to regroup. Ill never go here again. So sad to write this because this used to be one of the best restaurants near my home. Haven't been there in a while and decided to go tonight and it was nothing like it used to be! All the quality of the food has gone way down from what it used to be. They used to have the best garlic mashed potatoes when I ordered them tonight I was shocked what came out!!! It was mashed potatoes with a spoonful of jarred minced garlic on top! Everything was just not great, food was over cooked and just not the quality it used to be. Coming here for years with my girls when they were very young. The restaurant had the greatest value for kids meals. We love the marinated steaks. The prime rib is also amazing. Best thing about the restaurant is all the temperature of the meat that are always perfect to order. The dinner comes with soup or salad and variety of side dishes. The service can be hit or miss. Haven't been in years... it was Christmas Eve and we decided last minute to go out. There was no wait even though they were busy. They have lots of tables and plenty of servers. Connor was our server and he was great. Attentive. Friendly. On point all night. I had the marinated NY Strip.Cooked to medium as I asked. My son had the Wild West Burger and enjoyed it. My daughter had the shrimp taco app and wasn't wowed by it - she didn't love the Mac n Cheese either. We also had Calamari and it was def enough for 3 and came out hot and crispy. I would go back and try a special. There were many choices. We usually go to the J&R's in Calverton since it is closer to our house. We enjoy it there and there's always all the locals sitting at the bar. The food is good, and it's a nice atmosphere. Our friends went to the this J&R's since they were in the area of Rocky Point, so my husband and I met them there. I was really surprised at how much I liked this place. I found out that they are independently owned, and their menu, in my opinion was much nicer. They offer healthier selections, and all of the food was delicious! I had the grilled chicken with avocado, and it was awesome! Colin our bartender, made the most delicious drinks, and was really friendly and attentive. He also took our orders since we ordered and sat at the bar. He did an awesome job serving us and talking with us, making our entire experience great! He also ensured all of our food came out on time and was the way we wanted it. He was the only one behind the bar, and took care of everyone! I would definitely come back here. This used to be a J&R's but then changed to another place that did not do well at all. We haven't been back since they reopened to J&R's again, and we're so happy we went back. I think that if more people went to this J&R's, the one in Calverton will definitely have competition, as far as their menu and service. I highly recommend checking this place out! read more

I just had a party at this restaurant. The wait staff was very attentive to all of the guests needs. Their in house catering menu was very diverse. All the selections were tried by our party. Not a single complaint was made to us, but many complaints were given. The portions were huge, many left with to go boxes. The taste was fabulous. Went here on a Sunday night. Their were five of us. We ordered a mixed plate appy for the table. Pretty boring but I ordered it so I blame myself. My grandson had steak and coconut shrimp with mashed potatoes. The potatoes were cold, otherwise he was happy. I had onion soup that had no onions. I ordered fish and chips. Received fish tacos. Sent them back and got battered fish on a pile of potato chips. Expected fries but dealt with it. My daughter and her husband ordered specials of meatloaf with mushroom gravy and the same cold mashed potatoes. The gravy was so thick you could stand a fork in it. Stopped in for lunch - decided to make it today's main meal. Started with manhattan clam chowder - very fresh, alot of clams and veggies. Then on to a greek salad - the separate order to share, and was not disappointed- again, all fresh, even the stuffed grape leaves. As for the main course, Ordered the NY strip, medium - was done perfectly, nice marinade, a bit of char on the outside. They had solid desert offerings as well - we went with a chocolate cake, which was very good and tasted like it was made. Last night we made the mistake of going out to dinner at J&R's in Rocky Point. They were crowded, but we had a reservation. Three of us ordered off the New Year's Eve dinner special, and my son, just ordered on the regular menu. Our experience was HORRIBLE. My meal was completely wrong, ordered a strip steak, was served a Prime Rib. Now the waitress had even asked if I wanted the blue cheese crumble and marinade on my steak. I said yes to both, yet I get a prime rib. Ok, we send it back. Kid comes out some twenty minutes later, a runner, with my steak, now everyone else is almost done eating, but at this point, I was happy to see food. I cut the steak open, it is RAW. I mean, I eat my steaks rare, but this was not cooked, obviously not temped. We send it back and ask for the manager, which is when the fun began. He comes to the table, short, blonde man, if you have ever gone to the Rocky Point location, you have seen "him." He was rude, condescending, obnoxious and arrogant. He says, "Well, what do you want me to do?" I mean if it was my establishment, I would have first apologized for serving someone the wrong meal and then serving a raw steak. That's just me. Next up - the manager comes back a few minutes later, now everyone has finished their meals, thank goodness they shared with me, or I would have been starving. The unpleasant manager comes back with my steak, and says, "cut it open". Trust me, he was saying this with the I'll show you, attitude. Well, guess what???? Yup, still RAW. he practically grabbed the plate out of my hand to run it back to the kitchen. Now what would you do? I am at the point where I could care less to eat anymore, so I call the waitress over, figured we would order dessert, and I would take my dinner home to Bailey. She proceeds to actually SCREAM at my husband Chris Lobenhofer, tells him we are rude, he was like, are you even serious right now? My wife never ate dinner, she's hungry we simply wanted to order dessert. I ask for a different waitress. Seems sensible, right? Now we are sitting uncomfortably waiting for the new waitress. Siting, sitting, sitting....The runner comes over with my TO GO steak. I open up the tin, and you guessed it they never cooked it more, You can literally see it is still RAW inside. I did not even bother to say anything, you see no one asked, no one cared. I left the steak on the table. SILENCE for about 15 minutes and then the manager comes back, he was actually combative at this point. We told him we just wanted to order dessert, and take the steak to go, but it was still not cooked. He asks us to LEAVE! I am still blown away, I mean REALLY? We did not make a scene, we did not yell, we just asked for my dinner, and our dessert. On our way out he hounded my husband, like a child who pesters someone, he kept following us out the door and saying things under his breath to him. I literally had to hold my hubby back, he could have killed him, but this man would be the type to sue. And my husband would have hurt him, if it got physical. There was no comparison in size. We live on an actual island and the calamari was frozen and overcooked.. the prime rib was the way to go, but everything else.. the dogs didn't even want! Very Disappointed.. Service was good, they were out of fried pickles which my husband was looking forward to. I ordered a 16 oz prime rib with the intent on taking half home for my son and my husband ordered the 10 oz filet mignon. I attempted to SAW thru my steak, finally got a piece to bite, and it was unedible. I chewed and chewed, finally had to spit it out. My husband's filet mignon was edible but very tough. The cuts of meat were terrible. When the waitress asked if I wanted it wrapped, I said no thank you and asked for a baked potato to be wrapped up. We haven't been here for a long time and enjoyed a birthday dinner this week. The Owner Jimmy welcomed us with a smile and was enjoyable to talk to. The Dining area is open and comfortable with nicely spaced tables. Our waitress was terrific, extremely accommodating and pleasant. Enjoyed appetizers including crispy calamari, pierogies with onions and a large bavarian pretzel, all were yummy. Wonderful choice of steaks and sides including creamed spinach. Went with a party of 5. Not a single one of our orders were right. Two of us got burgers and the buns were rock hard. My ny strip was cooked well done, I ordered medium. It also lacked any flavor at all. My wife ordered nachos without chili. It came with chili. One of our sides never arrived. The quality of the food overall was poor but it was not disgusting, just not any good. It's a little less than what I would expect if I went to Denny's. They discounted the burgers and nachos from the check, which brought the bill down from a hundred bucks to 60 bucks. They still tried to charge for the side that never arrived until we asked for it to be removed. On the plus side, the waitress was very nice. When the other night for dinner. Ordered the French Onion soup, Mozzarella sticks and Rib eye steak. The French onion soup was meh. The cheese was sunken into the soup and was lackluster. It wasn't bad - just nothing to write home about. The mozzarella stick were nice. Just the right amount of crunch. They tasted fresh and were delicious. The rib eye was cooked just the way I asked. Don't eat here, the food quality has really gone down. Ordered a burger and fries, the burger had no taste and the fries were soggy. My friend ordered a steak and it was such a poor cut of meat, all fat and inedible when she finally got to a piece that she could cut her knife through. Ok, it's Mother's Day, 2020. Covid 19. J&Rs was AMAZING! My husband ordered for me and some friends of ours a few days ago. Today, Mothers' Day, he picked up 4 meals - 2 #8s (steo=ak and scallops), a rib and a swordfish entrée. ALL were terrific! He knew beforehand that he'd be picking it up at 2:00 because they were full from 2:00-6:00 or 6:30. Since we are practicing social distancing and we were eating on the deck, we decided we'd rather go with a 2:00 dinner. What a great decision! All the dishes were fantastic! We ended our meals with key lime pie and pecan pie, and had no leftovers! J&Rs, Rocky Point has figured out how to give the best they can in these times, and what they give is more than more places did in 'normal' times! Honesty we just had the worst dinner Iv had in a very long time. My 24oz Steak was literally complete uncooked. It came out sitting in pink juice. My stomach completely turned as I cut into it. Looks like it was cooled in a microwave for 2 min. My 8 year old son Hot Dog tasted off / freezer burned That even he didn't eat it. My Hoffbrau beer tasted skunky like the taps haven't been cleaned. We've been going to J&Rs for a long time and we were always very happy with our meals. My husband just turned 75 and I wanted to have a celebration for him. I asked if they catered. Jimmy brought me to the back party room...never knew they had one! It was perfect! The back wall is window-lined and overlooks the golf course. The size was perfect for about 40 people. The food was delicious and plentiful...so many people went home with lunch for the next day. Their prime rib was cooked perfectly to everyone's order. Ralph was more than willing to work with me when I wanted to tweak the menu. The prices were more than fair for what we got. He had salad and French onion soup which were both standard. I had lobster bisque and mussels appetizer which looked like a dinner portion! White wine butter sauce was delicious and the garlic bread slice was just the right size for dipping it all up! I was already full from just that! Prime rib was ordered medium rare and it was served medium rare. Took most of it home. Stick with the cheesecake for dessert. Service was friendly and attentive but a bit fast. Disappointed. Went on a weeknight well before closing - the staff just seemed so off. I worked as a server so I'm easy. I don't expect that much, just basic minimums. The place was dead, just a few tables at a reasonable hour. If anything, they were overstaffed. There were actually more servers than guests. But everything went so slowly. Basic things like getting seated when it's not busy, getting table settings, napkins, silverware. Anything took way longer. The staff seemed to act like guests were an afterthought. They were nice and meant well, but guests were just not a priority. I'm writing this because it's a good place I've been going to for years. I tip well regardless - the restaurant and servers are going to lose money if it stays like this. read more
