Forget the VTM or LVTM, unless you're just there for the caffeine. Dirty Chai is my go-to with soy milk, and even their lattes are usually great. The hot dirty chai is near-velvety smooth, a little on the sweeter side if you add one espresso and gives out a hint of earthiness that complements the spices in the chai. The soy milk adds a bold creaminess to the mix as a highlight, but still lets the other flavors to shine well. The only place so far that has a better dirty chai with more velvet, bodied texture would be Mantra Coffee in Azusa; but BLKdot Coffee still does this very right. read more

I've been wanting to try BLKdot Coffee for a while now, so when they opened another location at the Irvine Spectrum I was thrilled! Located next to Target, the new 85 Bakery, & Falasophy, BLKdot offers strong & delicious Vietnamese iced coffee and a variety of other caffeinated and non-caffeinated drinks. I tried their iced VTM, a hot latte, and one of their teas with chia seeds. Not a huge fan of the tea, but their coffee is great. I love the interior of the cafe, but I wish it were a little bigger. For its location in the Spectrum, it would have been nice to have more seating, because the decor is really nice (& photoworthy). But since foot traffic is heavy around this area, I think it will be hard to stay for long - or even if you are lucky enough to grab a spot, it would be uncomfortable with all the people around you. Came here for the first time and ordered a Green Tiger out of curiosity. I asked the cashier how sweet the drink is because I prefer my drinks less sweet. Cashier seems like he is new (which is fine) or he has never tasted the drink before and responds saying it tastes "normal". Not really sure what that means but I end up ordering a Green Tiger with less ice. Barista brings me out a Green Tea. It is a plain green tea with no sugar. Wrong drink, but no problem; I'll ask for them to remake the right drink. What I ended up getting is the absolute sweetest drink imaginable. Seriously, you really think this tastes "normal"??? What part of this drink is Uji matcha??? This is straight up water + milk + syrup. I am very curious what the recipe for this is because I would not be surprised if it was 10 pumps of syrup, since that is the only thing you can taste. Also, the only "matcha" part about this is maybe the color, which is green. The worst $6 + 15% tip drink I have ever tasted. Trust me, if I wanted diabetes, I would not have ordered the Green Tiger for $7. P.S. I asked for less ice, but the barista doesn't even look at my first cup to see "ez ice". A coworker brought me here after lunch. Place is towards the back of the Spectrum. It's cute, modern a bit on the small side in terms of store. Seating is available outside and inside. I ordered the iced coffee latte. The second I took a sip of the coffee I can feel the rush of the caffeine and the syrup. Very good but had to drink slowly. Came here late night located in the Irvine spectrum. Ordered the hot matcha latte and husband ordered cappuccino. The cappuccino was good, however doesn't have a rich, depth of flavor compared to the coffee shops that have the special roasting machines and equipment that takes time and does latte art. I got the matcha latte and had light sugar added and it was good and more on the bitter side which I didn't mind. This place is convenient for those that need a quick run and therefore, you can't expect the coffee to be amazing. However, I wouldn't mind coming back for a quick pick me up. Been here a few times when I'm in Irvine or passing through. We normally get the Vietnamese coffee. Yesterday I tried the mojito cold form iced drink. I don't exactly remember the name. But it was good to me. My family didn't like it. I thought it was interesting to mix the minty flavor with coffee. Service here is always good. Definitely less sweet and matcha-y than Starbucks (and tastes SO similar to Shaved N Boba's Matcha drink (which costs less I believe)) you can also replace milk w non-dairy options, addtl .80! Overall had a good experience, but couldn't justify that an Iced Matcha latte (w/ almond milk and TONS of ice) costs almost $6. It was more milky than matcha-y too. Big fan of the food and drinks here but just a small caveat. Been really busy with work recently so I've been ordering through grubhub (through Yelp) and on the online menu there, they don't offer the Spanish latte as an iced drink but when you go in to order, it's offered in their store menu. So I threw in a little memo when I ordered the latte if they can make it iced and they did. Ordering it the next 3 times with memos, it continually arrives as not disregarding my memo and it's a bit frustrating because I know they can make it iced. I understand it's not the end of the world but I have a very high standing body temperature so it's not something I really enjoy hot. Still rating it three stars because it's a 1st world issue and I'm sure some people are trying their best. Great new spot at the Spectrum. Got the iced light Vietnamese coffee. It was so delicious. Was there at 9 for breakfast and had the Farmers Toast also. They make it fresh and it tasted yummy as well. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. This is a nice treat away from the typical Starbucks and Coffee Bean. It was great to sit outside and watch my daughter play on the outdoor structure they have at the Spectrum. I think they found a new regular. read more

They sell Vietnamese coffee which I'm told is stronger than regular but since I am finally caffeine free I tried the decaf latte with hazelnut and coconut milk. It was the best I've had ever!! I normally enjoyed my experiences at blkdot but today I had a terrible experience. I ordered a mango delight green tea with less ice and no toppings like I normally do. But out comes a drink half empty. I've gotten this same order multiple times recently and never has this happened. The employee explained that this was a new recipe change and they would have to charge me more if I want more tea added. Well why do you still charge me the full price of the tea when I asked for the toppings and ice to be removed then?? I appreciate that this place is still open!! They have great coffee although my favorite is the matcha latte! It really packs the caffeine without making me jittery or anxious. One large matcha latte will last me the full day. I've never had an order made incorrectly which is another plus. It's located at the Irvine Spectrum which is also still open and it's nice to have somewhere to walk around outdoors. Their food is also pretty good, especially the avocado toast! I'm not a fan of paying $10 for an avocado's worth of food but I do love that they dress up their toast so that it's a small meal. I'll usually get this as a quick bite. I love the house Vietnamese Sea Salt coffee. It was sweet and creamy. I wouldn't recommend the Mojito coffee. I guess it does taste like mojito. Only complaint that I have was their service. Yesterday was my first time enjoying a beverage from BLKdot. It was a pretty solid experience. The employees were all very nice and even though I usually see a pretty long line of customers, I was actually able to walk right up and order. After I ordered, I walked over to the pick up area and my drink was ready! It was honestly so fast I didn't even get to look around first. The drink was good, but definitely pricey. I add soy milk and that's almost a whole dollar extra, which can add up so I'm not sure how often I'll be able buy something at this cafe. I will say I enjoyed the drink. It was not my favorite chai latte I've had, but it was solid. However, be careful with the paper straw. My straw was already closing up on me just 25 minutes after getting my drink. I don't chug drinks thought, so I'm sure others would finish their drink sooner. I'm sure anyone would enjoy this place. The vibes are good :) read more
