Love this place. The block burger is juicy and delicious. Upscale prices but nice for a date night

If you remember one thing from this review: charred snow peas. Order them, share them, eat the entire plate. Block is a new kid on the... Oh, you know what I was going to say. There's nothing kitschy or nostalgic about this restaurant though. It's upscale without being uncomfortable, with a locally sourced seasonal menu. Plus beautifully plated food and an absolutely lovely staff. Late night dinner at Block means I didn't go all out and order a full entree, as foodmares are a real thing. However, the small plates I had - beet and goat cheese salad plus the aforementioned snow peas were light, tasty and left me feeling full but not overly so. Plus a glass of white wine did the trick. Save room for desserts! They're rich and made for sharing as well. The pot de crème with popcorn could be devoured by one but that's not nearly as fun... let someone else have a taste. Prices are totally reasonable given the caliber of ingredients along with the hospitable vibes. If I lived closer, this would be a date night destination in the bookmark collection. read more

Guys THIS PLACE OMG! If the pictures of the food and interior decor doesn't already entice you to jump in your car to try it, let me just give you some more reasons why you should. Block is the quintessential locally owned restaurant with local and fresh ingredients. It doesn't get more "support local" than this place. We were looking on a Wednesday night for a late dinner spot and were so glad they're open until 10 PM so people can have quality food past 9 PM in Utah County. Kelsey was a fantastic host, bartender, and server. She is a co-owner and you can tell she is just so passionate about this place and that passion reflects greatly on the quality of this place. I got the Peach Pom cocktail and it was delicious and pleasing to the eye. Our table shared the Charred Snow Peas, which was the perfect fresh appetizer to a great dinner. I got the Braised Short Rib, my dinner companions got the Pork Loin and the Roasted Beet Salad. I enjoyed my short rib but it was a bit heavy for me, I think it was a bit saltier than I prefer, so the longer I ate it, the heavier it got. I think a bright or fresh element would lift the dish even more. The polenta cake was perfectly cooked though, that was delicious. The salad looked amazing and refreshing and a generous size for a salad. I got to try a bite of the Pork Loin and it was AMAZING, fork up the pork with the apple chutney and yam puree, and you've got yourself the perfect bite. We were sooooo full after our entrees but couldn't pass up trying the Panna Cotta. Like Rod, a chocolate cake also appeared with our ordered dessert and I'm so glad for it. This was the best panna cotta I have ever had. The combination of the sweetness and crunchiness of the popcorn with the light and creamy panna cotta was heavenly. The chocolate cake was perfectly moist (sorry moist-haters), creamy, chocolatey, and perfectly complemented by the raspberry and vanilla buttercream. The menu is seasonal and ever changing which gives you a great excuse to return regularly to try new things. I highly recommend this place as a less crowded, reasonably priced, support local, perfect date night spot. read more

It looks like Utah Valley now has a new king when it comes to dining. It brings in a chef and front of house manager that have serious credentials with this type of restaurant. It looks great, even though it's obvious this restaurant was built out on a budget. The food is not done on a low budget, however. I started with their Manhattan. It's a simple drink that is regularly screwed up all over SLC, including top places charging a LOT more than the price here. They are not only using top shelf Rye with the High West, they are using ulta-premium sweet vermouth as well. It's served "up", and wasn't mixed with so much ice as to be watered down. Bravo. A truly excellent version. The wife's drink was also well done. We started with the fig tapenade with goat cheese. It's the only quibble of the evening. The large amount of tapenade overpowers the dish. After scraping off 2/3rds of the tapenade, it was an excellent, balanced, dish. The kitchen was nice enough to send out another appetizer of snap peas, tendrils with house made aioli. The peas were al dente, and aioli perfect. It had no overpowering raw garlic flavor. This was probably the best dish of food I've had in the valley -- ever. There are two things I will never order at almost all restaurants. Pork chops, and Chicken breast. They will both be over cooked and dry. We've learned we can trust Kelcee's judgement. We've known each other from previous restaurants she's been at. We get tired of always getting the standard beef and fish dishes. The chicken and pork looked really good. She said to trust her. The wife's chicken was delicious, and moist. My double cut pork chop was cooked medium rare as asked. Being that it's heritage pork, it had fat, and flavor. Bravo again. I've included a picture, that while not pretty, it shows it was cooked as asked, and was moist. Finally, we were talked into deserts. It didn't take a lot of talking. We ordered the panna cotta with kettle corn. It was very nice. A piece of chocolate cake also appeared. I'm not normally much of a cake person, but this was delicious. In the end we pretty much waddled out. In rebuttal to a number of other reviews, the drinks and wine list are very inexpensive. We brought wine. Having a well stocked walk in cellar provides me better options than they supply, but I'd be happy to purchase their wine at the price they charge. The corkage is a reasonable $15. The courses were well sized, and prices at similar price, or less, than the places in SLC with the same ingredients. If they can keep the quality up when the place is busy, this place matches nearly anything available in SLC. We were able to visit briefly with Adam. He's a modest guy with solid cooking chops I won't bring up here. Utah County has needed a nice restaurant for many years. Communal can be very good, but it fills a different niche. Restaurant Roy, and Chef's table were always expensive, mediocre food. Nearly, everything else is casual in nature. Asado, and Black Sheep, fill a different niche, but are worth your patronage as well. read more

So so excited about Block Restaurant. Brunch is a Sunday tradition in our household, and the fact that we no longer have to trek to Salt Lake every weekend has me over the moon. They have all the basics you'd expect to see on a brunch menu, plus a few house specials. In all honesty, their hollandaise will make you do a happy dance. This is a fancy restaurant. Provo/Orem doesn't have many such options, so it is a good addition. It is always good to have more choices. I have a few niggling complaints, but it is only because the Block is quite expensive, so naturally my expectations are high. The ambience of the restaurant isn't bad, but the style of the chairs (cheap looking) leads you to expect lower prices than they are asking. Worse, if you get the wrong table, you may feel a draft from the door--an unhappy experience in cold weather. Bring a sweater. One thing I really appreciated were the acoustics of the restaurant. It is quiet enough that it is a great setting for conversation and the lighting was just right. Naturally, there are no televisions, which helps elevate the atmosphere. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and eager to serve. Although very kind, the servers need just a little fine tuning to their training. People weren't waiting for tables and it is a nice restaurant, so there should be no rush. They brought our entrees before I had finished my salad course. They were in a bit too much of a hurry to serve! We ordered the fig tapenade as an appetizer. It was beautifully presented and extremely tasty! The bread was a bit too thick and hard though, making it messy and difficult to eat. For the salad course, my husband got the pear pecan salad and I got the quinoa medley. The pear pecan salad was a disappointment in that there was nothing special about it--you could get the same thing or better anywhere. The quinoa medley was nothing to look at, but it was a surprise. Really delicious! I'd love to know how to make that at home. Tasty and satisfying. For an entree (this restaurant is similar to Communal in that each part of the meal is al a carte and incurs a separate charge), my husband ordered the pork loin and I ordered the butternut ravioli in a sage butter sauce. The ravioli portion was quite small, but it was served at exactly the correct temperature, so it was pleasant and comforting, although not a wow type experience. I couldn't taste the sage. My husband loved the deep meaty flavor of the pork loin--I was surprised how fatty it was. We shared the caramel popcorn panna cotta--a fun dessert just because it is something that not everyone serves. It was well done. The total bill for the two of us (drinking only water) was $80 before the tip. The seating and noise volume is much better than Communal. Communal's food may be better, but they are in the same ballpark, aiming for the same high standard. Both ambience and food are better at Sundance. Naturally, the Block is worlds above the experience at La Jolla Grove. Most weeks I will probably prefer to eat at Carrabba's as it is substantially cheaper, yet still a nice experience (despite the TVs, ugh), but I will happily return to the Block to try it again for some special occasion in the future. read more

We were invited to the opening and were not disappointed. I wish I'd gotten a picture of the steak before I dug in because the herb butter was so lovely and pulled the potatoes into the dish and it was cooked so well...yum. I think my favorite, besides the steak, (and the charcuteries) were the fun and comforting desserts. You wouldn't think caramel popcorn could be that much better than it already is but I wanted to have a whole bag of it. The chai creme brulé had a great complex taste and nice crunchy crust...hate soggy brulé. It's a little pricey but there are so few great places to go for food like this in Utah County that I didn't mind the splurge. read more

First time here. Absolutely loved it. It was definitely a great capital-R Restaurant experience with well-crafted seasonal entrees and servers who cared about their job. I loved the ambiance - a comfortable rumble of conversation but without having to yell. My wife is pregnant and we're being a touch COVID cautious, but they were very accommodating and got a table for us that was tucked in the corner away from other parties and our waiter offered to wear a mask as well. The food was great - I had the Elk Steak which was good, but not as good as my wife's gnocchi & short rib. They even offered us a complimentary dessert since we were celebrating our anniversary. The menu at block changes seasonally and while I'm sad to see favorites go off-menu, I am continually pleased with new items. The beef stroganoff is amazing, anything with the romesco sauce is delightful, the salmon and trout are always cooked perfectly, salads are creative but not uninviting, the pork belly is to die for, desserts are comforting yet innovative. I can not say enough good things about this restaurant. If you like amazing food like Handle in Salt Lake City, you will love this gem in Utah County. This place has a great atmosphere. The staff is so knowledgeable and so nice. The owner even mixed our drinks which was a nice treat. The food, ahhhhh the food was amazing! Still thinking about it. Amazing food! The heavy crowd speaks for itself... Loved the atmosphere, the friendly staff and the brunch options.

It's been a few months since I've been back here and like always, I make reservations through open table because it's always busy for Sunday brunch. This week happen to be even busier than usual because they recently opened a bar on the other side of the building. The service was subpar, they came to the table to place the order for drink and food, but after dropping off the food the server returned only once to drop off the rest of the lemon aids and top off the coffee. It at least 30 minutes later when our food finally arrived and only at that time did the server check and ask if we needed anything else. Keep in mind we were seated at 12:45 and the food arrived just before 2pm. The food was tasty, but this is not what I expected when you make reservations to a nice restaurant, leaving the table empty with a long wait. I understand if you wait for food, but at least keep your table happy refilling drinks and at least checking in on them from time to time. read more

I'm all about restaurants doing things right. And let me tell you, Block is doing that. Seasonal menu's. Local produce. Great staff. I was impressed before I ever took my first bite. My cousin and I had dinner together one evening. I started with the brussels sprouts and she had the butternut squash soup. Both were very delicious and portion sizes were definitely shareable. For our main dishes I had the short rib gnocchi (two of my favorite foods in one dish, thank you very much!) and she had a pasta with squash. Her whole meal tasted delectably of Fall. It was perfect. Everything was cooked properly, nothing cold or soggy. I would definitely highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Wow!!!! AMAZING!!! We came here for brunch on Sunday morning and we fell in love! The coffee here is amazing!!!! The Biscuits were house made and DELICIOUS!!! Unicorn Syrup was Magical gooey goodness! The Brioche French Toast was perfect and exactly what French toast should be! The eggs Benedict came with absolutely perfectly poached eggs! The Hollandaise sauce was perfect and the ham was quality! The Bacon was thick cut, Smokey, perfectly cooked and was the bacon you dream about! You need to experience this place, at least one time. This place had the perfect environment for brunch. Laid back, cozy, elevated feel. They put time and effort into all they do, and the food reflects that. Locally sourced goodness that meets or exceeds expectations. I ordered the house made biscuits and gravy. My oh my!! It was phenomenal and downright tasty. No shortage of taste and even the presentation of the food made me feel a little guilty cutting into it to eat. Cute place for date night & the ambience is five-stars! The chicken plate and the block salad were beautifully presented. My favorite was the dressing of the salad, I cleaned up the plate! My husband got the burger and the sweet potato fries were a bit too dark to our liking. Overall, I'd have liked a little more flavor in the dishes. It's not like it was bad food, it was just not as exciting for me but you might love it. One awesome thing and the main reason I tried this place is because it's a local business and it seems like they're trying to source from local farmers, my salad came from a local farm which I think is super cool. read more

Block is a cool little brunch spot in Provo. Their drinks are very strong just a heads up. I ordered their breakfast burrito which at the time was a special so it may or may not still be there. While it's on the smaller side, it packs a punch of flavor. Their normal pancake breakfast is good too, I recommend the unicorn sauce. Nice to see a brunch spot with actual cocktails in Utah county. This was very refreshing to find in Utah county. We came to try it from Pleasant Grove not far but worth the trip. We ordered the Pork Belly for appetizers and they were great, small portion but still very good. I had the pork loin plate and my wife had the steak and both of us enjoyed the food. My wife ordered the tequila tamarind and absolutely loved it. All of the staff was great, friendly, helpful and all seemed very happy being there. Our waitress was super friendly. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star is that we had reservations for 7:30, we showed up at 7:25 - 7:30, they were not packed several empty tables and no one left while we waited and did not get a seat until after 7:50. I am sure that was for the kitchen staff but, it was Friday night and they were not packed so they missed out on a round of drinks (i guess I did as well) Appetizers, 2 dinner plates, 1 beer, 2 tequila drinks and tip we spent $137.40. This place was incredible. I'm not a super high end eater, and usually feel a bit out of place when I can't pronounce half the words on the menu, but we had a great time at Block. Our server was super nice and every dish was great. I had the burger which could literally not have been better. I LOVE brunch so I decided to try this place after reading the amazing reviews... sadly I was very disappointed. I got the Eggs Benedict and a side of French Toast with Unicorn syrup. It took a really long time to get both but I don't mind waiting for something great so no big deal! Once I finally got my food it all tasted good but unfortunately - it was cold. The sauce on top of the ham on the Benedict was dried up it had sat there so long. Had anyone asked me how my food was I would have told them but no one talked to me after my order was taken... I wasn't even offered another drink after mine was empty (I was sitting at the bar so the empty glass was right in front of them). The vibe here is very cool and the food does taste good but the that fact they brought it out cold and the customer service was poor really ruined the experience. Wait. We're in Provo? Seriously? We were visiting my mom and wanted to treat her to dinner, so I pull out Yelp and here's a farm-to-table restaurant a few miles from Mom's place. We're Midwesterners and we're pretty accustomed to farm-to-table cuisine, so it was a surprise and a delight to find Block. Decor: Spartan and tasteful. Hip but not pretentious. Well-done. Charcuterie plate: impressive! Some good cheeses (not super local but Utah isn't Wisconsin) and nice meats. Well-done! Entrees: Everyone loved theirs. Mom had a lovely beet salad and it was a good portion size. I had the rib-eye and it was a fine cut of meat cooked very well. Sister had the burger and it was fantastic.
