I noticed that the negative reviews of Block focus largely on service rather than food. Some reviewers seem particularly annoyed at having to wait for 10 minutes, for example, to order dessert or to be seated. I reserved in advance and had zero wait. As for waiting to order or to get food, this isn't fast food it's a night out, presumably with someone you want to be with and talk to. So do that while waiting. Now on to the food. Portions are perfect, flavors are strong but complex, ingredients are well sourced, and plating is aesthetically pleasing without being overwrought. We had an artichoke starter with a delicious tomato jam, a beetroot salad, gnocchi, pork loin, and the popcorn panna cotta. The variety of flavors was a delight. This may become a new go-to for a nice meal out and for visitors who want some local cuisine that proves we're not all about fry sauce and funeral potatoes. Finally, atmosphere is nice but the open layout can lead to a noisier atmosphere than you might desire for intimate dinners (for that, try to sit tucked in toward a corner or wall). A gem in Provo - boozy brunch open on Sunday's! Our food was great and theres live music. My only complaint is that with my party of 6, there was quite a bit of confusion with our bills (items being placed on the wrong checks and cards given to the wrong person). However, not a big deal at all considering our waitress was so nice and welcoming, and we were able to work it out quickly. Can't wait to be back! read more

Completely blown away! Food, service, overall vibe, everything was spot on. Started with the charcuterie of course, the honey comb, prosciutto and all the other items were incredible. Got the curry cauliflower soup, everyone at our table tried some and were all extremely impressed, it's some of the best soup I've had in my life and I'm not exaggerating. The wagyu ribeye was cooked perfectly and paired very well with the polenta, highly recommend. Very good price for a wagyu steak and the portions were generous. Dinner ended on a high note with the blueberry dessert, the pastry was buttery and flakey. The waitress found out it was my birthday and brought out a personally signed card from all the employees and a free dessert of my choice, very thoughtful and nice! Provo is lucky to have such a great restaurant here. Will definitely be my choice for a nice dinner spot, I want to also come back and try the brunch I've heard so much about. 10/10 food and great overall experience! read more

Relaxed fine dining. Interior design was on point. We got the wedge salad. More of a Caesar dressing, a little kick to it and really good! We tried the pan seared chicken and gnocchi (I realize they change the menu regularly so take that into account). Everything was good, but half way through the meal my husband and I switched entrees because neither of us loved what we got. We may go back, but we'd order different entrees. The meet was cooked perfect! Tender, crispy, moist. I think I was expecting a creamier sauce for the gnocchi and the flavor was closer to beef stew. My wife and I enjoyed a beautiful meal here for our anniversary. The arugula spicy cheese toast appetizer was our favorite bite. I ordered the gnoche with short rib and it was yummy. Nice and balanced. My wife ordered the trout. We felt tomato they put under the fish was overpowering to that nice delicate trout. It was busy and loud. The space amplifies sound. Incredible food. New favorite. All the dishes were unique and every aspect of the dish was delicious in its own, and even better combined together. We enjoyed the roasted artichoke appetizer, seared Mediterranean chicken, and braised lamb shank. I'm usually not a huge fan of lamb, but this lamb entree was delicious and I enjoyed it very much. The Mediterranean chicken was divine and paired so nicely with the veggies and baba ganoush. Desserts rounded out the evening perfectly. The caramel apple galette is a thing of dreams - apples caramelized in the oven and added to a lovely, buttery pastry. The poached pear was also tasty - not too sweet, but so tasty. Being a seasonal menu with local ingredients is also a highlight. The ingredients are great quality and fresh... The servers are well informed with where the ingredients are from. They even bring in the trout twice weekly from Payson. We didn't order the trout, but plan to next time as it looked amazing and was a recommendation from our fantastic server who gave us great recommendations all night. We've had both brunch and dinner here. Brunch was good and that brought us back for dinner. Different experiences, different vibes, but dinner wins out for us. The ambiance was chill, but nice. The servers were all lovely, very personable, helpful with their recommendations, passionate about food and the restaurant, and they added to the overall experience. Brunch at block with my mother and sister this afternoon was delicious. My only complaint would be the over cooked Rosemary potatoes. Everything else was spot on. I tried their unicorn syrup with the French toast and thought it was something special. Not overly sweet but packing flavor. I also really like the Avocado Benedict. The restaurant is small and quaint. Great quotes and decorations. It was rusty c but yet industrial. The food was amazing with its own special flare. We had the gnocchi short rib that was phenomenal, the hanger Steak was cooked perfectly served with an amazing charred green onion aioli, and the duck sweet polenta. The Block has the best burger in Utah and I will fight anyone who disagrees. Always perfectly composed, regardless of which seasonal menu it comes from. Juicy, nuanced, and perfectly centered on the flavor of thick-ground, loosely-packed, properly charred beef. That's what a hamburger is about. Period. You can't go wrong here, though. Each dish is simple yet inventive, familiar yet intriguing. The chef has an awesome palate and nails the fundamentals, so whatever you eat will be cooked just right and well-flavored. The manager told me that this restaurant gives people familiar food that stretches them a little bit. I love that about this restaurant because I feel I had a real cultural, Celtic dining experience. Went here on a birthday date night recently and it was fabulous. I felt a bit bad for them because with the recent COVID restrictions, most of their reservations fell through. They are definitely feeling the pinch. However, we had a wonderful time, a very romantic dinner. I love the atmosphere and our servers were foodies so that was fun. We had some seasonal drinks which were fabulous. We also had the charcuterie board, the scallops and the gnocchi. The gnocchi is a great value! Lots of food. What a pleasant surprise and great find! We found this place on Open Table, and since we love trying new restaurants, we gave this place a shot for my wife's birthday this week. GREAT choice! The food is fresh and well prepared. The flavors are amazing, with complimenting ingredients that create that unique 'pop' when done right. We had a special appetizer, grilled scallops on a carrot based purée. The only complaint was that there were only three scallops. Too good to limit to just 3 :) My wife ordered the Block Wedge Salad and the Howse Made Potato Gnocchi with braised short ribs. The salad dressing had just a bit of kick to it that added a nice dimension to a traditional dish. The pickled red onion and bacon chunks were a perfect match. The Gnocchi was like eating Sunday Roast at home with mom, in every bite. AMAZING! I had the Beets Salad and the Clifford Farms Pork Loin. The combination of roasted and pickled beets were fantastic. Not what I would have chosen myself, (I let the server choose my meal), but it was a great selection. Wonderfully surprised. The Pork Loin was very different than my wife' gnocchi. The gnocchi is the definition of comfort food with its rich flavors, while my Pork Loin exploded with a light and herb based pallet. The Pork Loin had a ton of flavors to enjoy. I've been here multiple times as it's convenient when I'm staying in Utah. The food is great and the drinks are amazing. I appreciate being able to get a craft cocktail when drinks are measured, and they have really done an amazing job with this. As far as ambience, they do the best w/ the hand they were dealt. You're so close to feeling like you're not in a shopping mall. Bar is pretty much non existent but they pull it together. Staff seems cool, like not super happy you're there but not stuffy. This is a 4-5 stars for small town/Utah. Definitely a good place to hit if you're visiting regularly. Pro Tip: If they are booked and you don't have reservation the hostess will turn you away (as she tried w myself) but you can eat at the make shift bar in the corner ... I know common sense but again we're in Utah so bless her heart ;) read more

So sweet, kind, accommodating and efficient! After a frustrating day of travel she totally turned our day around! Summary: I have been excited to each brunch here for a while, and since the decided to start serving weekday brunch, the wife and I finally made it in to give it a try. Atmosphere: (4 stars) - The interior is nice, and well appointed. They have plenty of space between you and other diners, so you can feel confident that you will not be squeezed into a situation that you do not want to be in. Food: (3.5 Stars) - The food was good, but for the price I expected a bit more. My brussel sprouts were a bit underdone, and eggs were a bit overdone, other than that the heavenly syrup they have for their pancakes, as well as the high quality meats made up for the previous items I mentioned. Service (4 stars) - Our server was very attentive, made great suggestions, and was easy to work with. Value (3 Stars) - This is a restaurant where you will for sure pay more than you would otherwise, especially for brunch. Well that was not the case this time when I paid $40.00 for my stake and it was so poorly presented at first with a dried meat and very very salty, with chips from the bags you can find at your grocery store. This was another place that I had fully anticipated giving 5 stars, but unfortunately I just don't feel like I can. The food itself was pretty delicious. It tasted so fresh and full of flavor. We went for lunch and shared a few different things. The best root hummus was so tasty. I'm not even a huge fan or hummus, but this stuff was good. (One complaint is that they don't give you enough carrots/peas/crackers to finish it all.) The chicken on my strawberry spinach salad was so tender and juicy. And the lemon vinaigrette added to much flavor! I really loved it. Honestly, it was my overall experience that is taking away a few stars. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was very underwhelmed. Our waitress was friendly, but our food took an extremely long time. And it was a very slow afternoon too so there really shouldn't have been any problems. My sister ordered the avocado Cobb salad and they forgot to actually put the avocado on it. What is up with that haha? The atmosphere is fun, but honestly I don't feel like it is nice enough for the kind of money they are charging for food. It is much too casual to be serving a $36 dinner. We just had dinner here for the first time. The atmosphere was nice. The service was ok. When we looked over the one-page menu most of the items look nice and yummy. The pricing was that of a high-end restaurant. I don't mind paying a high price for a meal if the qualities are there in the dishes. I had to order a slice of bread separately from my meals, ok. My meal was ok. My pork chop was cooked great it was over sweet potatoes very bland with poorly cooked asparagus. When I pay $40 just for one pork chop and $30 for a salad the flavor profile better be there. Overall, we paid $140 for a that I would never order again.
