Another gem on the west side of Cayuga lake for your wine tasting tour. This is a smaller winery that has been around since 1999. It is run by a couple passionate about wine as you will be able to tell when you walk in to do your tasting. They do work and manage their own vines as well. The tastings are limited dates/times so do check before going (gotta tend the grapes too). The wines were very nice and a good variety of NY grapes. We tasted rieslings, Chardonnay, Pinot noir, and a gewürztraminer. You'll enjoy the stories and explanations while you taste your wines. The tasting house is also very cute and allows you to look out over the vines while still feeling like you are in a intimate setting. Great stop!!! read more

Kim and Debra make amazing wines. Their small winery and tasting room is small but their wines are excellent. Each varietal shines, and he really doesnt have any BAD wines. Many tasting rooms just serve whatever is around because people come to just taste free wine samples. But Kim has a way of speaking about his wines that is so enticing. I went on a Sunday afternoon, and there was only one other visitor tasting, but Kim himself was pouring and hosting. What a humble, generous and awesome guy, I love the wines as much as the winemaker. I'm a fan! read more

A new friend, Jim Biddle, introduced Shirley and I to a new winery. One with a great theory of how the winemakers think wine should be made. And with great results. They do a "their hands on job" of making wine, right from growing the grapes thru bottling, labeling and running the tasting room. As I understand it they only use occasional heavy lifting help. How they can do all that nearly alone is beyond me. And she is a known Artist beyond all that. From listening at the tasting I think they make wine the "old fashioned way" ... for instance without trying to make the same tasting wine every year by fiddling with the process. I think that's normally done commercialy so folks will buy next years wine, knowing it will be very similar to this years wine they know they like. Instead they seem to lean toward letting the season, weather, and other of natures fancies dictate a lot of the finished wines taste. I love that idea. They sampled (and sell of course) a bottle of unfined and unfiltered wine. A ridiculous thing to do (it's unfinished wine!!) but it tasted nicely different, with foggy trails of wine products drifting about in the bottle. I knew the taste well because decades ago I was a ( not very good) amateur winemaker. But what a free spirit thing to think of doing. If they are tasting that wine be sure you enjoy that trip a little deeper into winemaking. I wish I hadn't gone on so, and I dearly wish they were a lot closer. read more

Bloomer Creek is the first winery that I've visited in the finger lakes region with red wines that can compete with their counterparts from more well known wine regions. The winery seemed like a one man shop with a well decorated cozy interior. We had a complimentary tasting of preselected wines. Since the actual winemaker gave the tasting, we were mercifully spared much of the BS that usually goes with wine tasting. Definitely stop here. read more

I brought in 8 of my friends over Memorial Day weekend and Kim was a fantastic host. Although busy, he took the time to explain their winemaking process and provide details about each of our tastings. Kim and Debra have put a lot of TLC into their operation and its paying off big time as several of their wines can be found in many notable Manhattan restaurants. Disgusted. We tried to make it here couple of times, given all the positive media coverage, but they were always closed. This time they were open. Unfortunately. The sign on the door said "No parties over 6". When we came in, the tasting station was hugged by a group of 12 people. They were all middle aged, well mannered, and very responsive, though. My problem is with the way that the tasting was conducted. Young lady was lecturing this large group about origins of wine production. Between the time we came in and the time we tried the first wine took good 10 minutes. Why are you treating the people that come through your door as complete novices? Some of us come to the Finger Lakes to experience wines and wineries as connoisseurs, wine drinkers, and even potential commercial purchasers. You charge $5 a person for a chance to try terrible, poorly made, underperforming wines. Isn't it enough of the insult? Do you need to make us suffer through the half an hour of completely illiterate tirade full of some ill-conceived wine legends? When Bloomer Creek became "The It" winery of the Finger Lakes in the eyes of unscrupulous wine media couple of years ago, I was surprised. Given a fact that such serious wineries as McGregor, Shaw, Shalestone, etc. don't receive any recognition at all. But I figured that the angle of an artist from New York marrying a farmer-turned-wine-maker was enough of a draw to justify all of the attention. And, of course, I assumed that the wine was good enough for all this media attention not to be in vain. Obviously, there is no integrity left in this wine peddling, points-driven business. Wines are good to very good, and the winery's philosophy is interesting. So from that perspective this place earns 3.5 stars. But this afternoon the owner blew it for us. When I mentioned to a fellow patron, who is a winemaker from Virginia, that Shaw Vineyards on west side of Seneca is well worth a visit, the Bloomer Creek owner rolled her eyes and chided me for making the suggestion, something about how one should discover places on one's own or by kismet or whatever. (She seems to want to be "cool," so much so that she basically suggested that word of mouth for a small business is bad. Wow.) My reply, delivered matter of factly: That I will be sure not to tell anyone about Bloomer Creek. read more

We are always pleased with the wines from Bloomer Creek. The Chardonnay is outstanding, but really all of the wines are fantastic. Your wine tasting experience can't get any better than having the winemaker/owners, Kim and Deb, pour for you and talk about their winemaking techniques. This vineyard is fantastic, definitely my top favorite (next to Lameroux Landing and Hermann Wiemer). I think the two highly critical reviews are dead wrong. It's very clear this is a small operation who cater to serious wine enthusiasts, not the large bachelorette parties that seem to run all over the Finger Lake wineries to get wasted. The wines here are unusual, complex, and even disruptive to try. It's not predictable (like Shaw, as mentioned below), and if you really consider yourself a wine connoisseur, then you would agree. I was enamored by each wine I tried, and loved their method of going against the traditional grain of winemaking by some of their fellow wineries, by going back to the basics. The finger lakes need a winery like Bloomers to give it some credibility (in my humble opinion), a lot of the other places are pretty basic and wouldn't hold a small flame against places like Napa Valley or France. read more

I tried to visit the vineyard today - opening hours started at noon, and I arrived at 12:30 with two friends. (Coincidentally, another car of people arrived at the same time.) When we walked in to the tasting room, Debra was doing some ironing and said they weren't open yet. When my husband apologized and said that he thought they opened at noon, Kim explained that their hours did begin at noon, but they got a late start and offered to pour for us, but Debra very brusquely said she didn't want us tasting when she had things out, and that we could come back in an hour. After such curt and frankly rude service, we certainly weren't going to come back in an hour to check if she had decided that she was ready to be open by that point! read more

The owners were extremely rude to my group and I. Told us we were taking up space, because we had two separate groups for a tasting. The owners also told us it was gaming the system because we were all together in a group. It was rude and embarassing the way these owners treated us. Will never return!!!! read more

One word....incredible! Great wine, great atmosphere and a very knowledgeable staff. Torah was a lot of fun to work with and really takes her time to explain the wine. Learning more about their wine making process made the experience . Make this a stop on your finger lake wine tour! read more

They produce some of the best Riesling in the area. Really nice people, great tasting experience.
