It is such a nice and airy space, it almost feels like you're going to an event not just dinner. We had the special clams and they were excellent, so fresh and clean. I had the chicken parm vodka sandwich and it was the best chicken parm sandwich I've ever had. My husband had the braised beef short ribs and.... No words. Fall apart, tender, farm to table good. Wonderful atmosphere and excellent service from all of the staff. They have one of the best steaks around and the food is always great. We ordered a pierogi appetizer to share and some holiday cocktails to start. For entrees we had pork chops that were cooked to perfection and served over a sweet potato purée with a blackberry gastric. We also had the 7 fishes over linguine offered in red, white, hot or hot. I chose red hot. It was delicious with calamari, shrimp, lobster, mussels, clams, and fish. The penne vodka with sausage and peas was also delicious and a generous portion. The salmon dish was also excellent but had barely any risotto and 6 string beans. Overall, Blooming Grove is a favorite of our extended family and we visit fairly often. The only room for improvement is the portion size of some of the dishes in comparison to others. read more

Dinner was very good. Our table had the salmon, prime rib and a pasta. Everyone enjoyed their entrees and we found the outdoor patio to be one of the prettiest in the area. Our service was excellent. Our server, Dawn was a rare mix of professional attention and service and a very peppy and sunny personality. We noticed that everyone seemed really happy to be working there. We can be high maintenance but she never skipped a beat with a big serving of "happy you're here" !! We spent a bit of time at the bar and found it to be a really fun kind of bar. After passing the restaurant many times, and seeing the neat outside area and mansion like setting I decided to give it a try. The inside has a few dining areas and a nice bar and bar area (which was packed). We were seated by a faux fireplace on the cold night so that was nice. The menu is pretty straight forward. The night we went they had all you can eat prime rib! Drinks were good. The lobster bisque was velvety and delicious. The shrimp cocktail could have had more or larger shrimp for the $18 price tag. The tuna was ok. The prime rib was very good and perfectly cooked. The piece was big (10 or 12oz). That along with a salad, baked potato and veg, I did not have a second portion. Service was good. Could have had water and drinks filled a few more times...but overall fine. May go back for the happy hours and the outside patio. 3.5 to 4 would be my rating. read more

With the food options, you might think it would be a more romantic or refined environment prior to entering, but the experience can be described as fine dining at your local pub. Weird and strangely off-putting. The overhead lighting was overbearing and way too bright to really enjoy and be fully immersed in the meal. Tables were basically dressed with no candles or ancillary light source. The dessert menu was printed on a piece of cut computer paper and handed to us. Decor was all over the place in terms of theme. It was not very crowded for a Saturday night. And they didn't remove the additional settings at our table. The food overall was very good. I wish they used the ingredients a bit more thoughtfully. Too much broccoli rabe in the octopus appetizer which overpowered the dish. Saffron was way overused in the papardelle. And lobster mashed were a bit watery. Steak was well cooked and tender and the pasta was perfectly cooked. Seafood chowder and Cobb salad were delicious, and the food came out very fast. Overall, Id say if atmosphere means nothing to you in terms of your dining out experience, the food here is worth a visit. I would not recommend for a date night or romantic evening. read more

My husband, son and I had our Christmas Eve dinner at the Inn - it was our first time dining here. The restaurant and bar are beautiful, service was excellent. We even met Santa Claus! The menu was nice as a special holiday menu. My son ordered the big meatballs as an appetizer. He's very picky and he loved them (he just got meatballs without a bed of broccoli rabe). My husband and I had the New England Clam Chowder which was very tasty with a good amount of clams. I like my chowder creamier, but their version was enjoyable. I ordered the lamb chops, my husband ordered the lobster ravioli and my son had the steak. My lamb chops and my son's steak were overcooked but tasty. My meal was cold which I could not really understand why. My husband said his ravioli was pretty good. Sadly none of us were wowed which was disappointing especially because it was pretty pricey. Based on reviews and recommendations I was a little surprised at how lackluster the meals were. We did not complain because it was Christmas Eve and these poor people had to work and the food was fine. Just not as wonderful as we anticipated. read more

I was at Blooming grove for a holiday work party, with a large crowd so we had pre-ordered food being served buffet-style. The place itself is quaintly located in Ewing surrounded by mostly homes on either side, in a Victorian style building. Since it was a buffet, got to sample a few things, garlic bread, bacon wrapped scallops, grilled shrimp, meat balls penne pasta and cheese cake. Everything was well made and was flavorful, but the garlic bread was awful (soaked up and felt like eating oil), the cheesecake though was perfect, not too heavy, yet deliciously satisfying. I've been to Blooming Grove Inn quite a few times recently and I've become a really big fan. I love the ambiance which is warm and welcoming with just a touch of upscale and the food is routinely excellent as well. I've actually not had a bad meal here. My current favorites are the smoked pork belly appetizer and the chili, garlic and ginger marinated ahi tuna entree, both of which are absolutely delicious. They also do delicious steaks for a non-steakhouse establishment! Service here is outstanding and there's always plenty of parking in their massive parking lot. Another great thing about Blooming Grove Inn is that they frequently offer Groupons and Open Table reservation opportunities, so you can save a few bucks on your meal. In the end, this is a great spot for lunch and dinner. Four solid stars from me. read more

On a Saturday night at 6:30, it took 90 minutes before our main course was served. We had to ask where our food was. Our waiter was Chas, who never bothered to update us as we sat and sat waiting. Kinda a prima donna. It wasn't that busy - the inside was completely empty and only the the outdoor tables were being served. You know something is off when the wait staff is standing around laughing and lounging on the porch and you've been sitting with no food for 30 minutes with no explanation. When the mains came, they came with the "careful, hot plate" and we laughed as all our plates were ice cold. Food was way over peppered. Who does that. The tables outside are flimsy and rocky and not big enough to hold all the plates and silverware and glasses that arrive without something being cleared. We won't be going back considering the prices and the inattentiveness. read more

This was my first time dining at the Blooming Grove Inn; it was my sister's birthday and Christmas Eve. We could not have picked a better place. First, the service was exceptional. Attentive without being obsequious. The staff took our orders without question and offered good suggestions when asked. I ordered a Side Car cocktail. I got one of the best I've ever had. This is not a complex cocktail but I think getting the proportions right is tricky. Our appetizers came quickly: duck potstickers, Brussels sprouts, and bacon-wrapped scallops. Excellent. What a cute, little quaint restaurant in Ewing, Nj. It appears that they are still only hosting outdoor seating, but we didn't mind! It was set up quite well- the tent had several fire pits that kept us warm on a 60 degree night. The service was immaculate- Cole was a really nice server. They also had a young lady clearing everyone's dishes and bringing bread. She was also very sweet! We ordered two appetizers (the Brussels sprouts and crab dip). Both excellent, fresh, and full of flavor. For dinner we ordered the scallops in blush cream sauce with lobster mashed potato's (yes. You're reading that correctly) and short ribs. Both amazing. We came as a party of four for lunch and were immediately seated at a table near the bar. Our waitress came and poured glasses of water from a carafe. Since the water was so cold and refreshing, we opted to keep it as our sole beverage. I ordered the grilled chicken with provolone, sautéed spinach and red peppers on a brioche bun. The sandwich was delicious and very filling. I had to take half of it home with me. My sandwich also came with macaroni salad which was quite bland. Two other members in my party ordered mom's salad that had shrimp and chicken in it. They loved the presentation and all the delightful ingredients in it. The fourth person in my party ordered the Italian hoagie special and she said that it was very good. We decided to share the apple cobbler for dessert. Although the cobbler was not baked on site, it was a real treat! You could taste the cinnamon sprinkled on nice apple slices with a crumbled crust topped with whipped cream and a generous scoop of ice cream. This restaurant is a cute little hidden gem. Nice bar and outside seating. My only complaint is that I felt like they were rushing us to eat and move on. The waitress was prematurely removed plates from the table and quickly gave us containers for leftovers. The restaurant wasn't extremely crowded so I wondered why she was so hasty. read more

We were a party of 4, and they sat us at a table for 6, making conversation very difficult given how loud the restaurant is. It was assumed this would be acceptable. My question is, why take a reservation when you don't have the proper seating? Secondly, our waitress definitely did not want to be bothered. She seemed annoyed when we wanted to order appetizers first, and her attitude was one of overall indifference. Speaking of appetizers, the bacon wrapped scallops came out dry and tasteless. After today's dinner I have to bump this up into the 3 star range. I opted for the easiest dish on the menu, baked pasta with slices of sausage and meatball. My only worry was the ball o meat, but it was stellar. One of the best I've ever received in a restaurant. My aunt's choice of halibut with a pumpkin risotto was nicely executed as well. Our server Alicia was a sweetheart, and offered half portions of 2 desserts when she saw we were having trouble deciding. We had the banana cream before and it was as good as we remembered. But the pumpkin bread pudding stole the show. If you have a chance, try it. This place for me was truly a three and a half Star for the food. The extra bump up to a full four was for the service (love our waitress Jaime) and the ambience. You walk in and you're greeted by a sweet smiling server and she seated us quickly to a cozy spot perfect for date night. After reviewing their menu, hubby and I settled for the following: appetizers consisted of meatballs and the other, brussel sprouts. Entrees chosen were braised short ribs and the other grilled ahi tuna. Our appetizers were both right on the mark. They were amazing and are definitely sharable for two. Our entrees are also very generous but only one was a hit with us. Hubby ordered the maple Brown sugar braised beef short ribs. The braised beef was extremely tender and juicy, the white asparagus still had their snap and their vegetable ragout was just plain missing. Yes, you've read correctly. The menu clearly stated, includes vegetable ragout. Where are they? We arrived at 5:00 pm when you opened for dinner. You couldn't have ran out of them. S'mish. Rolling eyes over here. My choice was grilled ahi tuna. It comes with garlic flavored bamboo infused sticky rice (short grain) - (was that what it was?), soy Brown sugar, multi colored baby carrots (too sweet), wasabi white wine garlic sauce. Sometimes the simpler, the better to showcase the grilled ahi tuna. The wasabi white wine garlic sauce dominated the sticky rice and all I tasted was the wasabi sauce. ...smushy wasabi rice. Not great. While the tuna was grade A tuna, had they just had a simplistic wasabi sauce, it would have paired better. They did however plate all the dishes beautifully. Nice comes the question, would we come back? Yes, but I'd sit by the bar and order a drink and a couple appetizers. read more

Ordered several drinks from a very knowledgeable server and they were excellent. My date ordered Filet mignon and crab cake. The steak was perfectly prepared and the crab cake was lousy. No lump crab, mostly filler and minced crab. I ordered Rib eye, truffle mashed and spinach. The mash potatoes were good, the spinach perfect but the steak was mostly waist. Gristle, fat, and reminiscing select grade meat rather than choice or prime. Dessert was creme brulee cheesecake for both of us. It was excellent. We were looking for a cocktail bar in the area and happened upon Blooming Grove Inn. We weren't there to eat but the food being served to other patrons looked great. We had a few different drinks and the bartender was on point, all of our drinks (Gin Mule, Manhattan, Pear 75 Spritz, and a custom mixed drink) were perfectly balanced and in the end we wound up ordering a crab, artichoke and spinach dip appetizer to split which was fantastic. We ordered oysters off the HH menu. I would not recommend them, they were tasteless. Ordered a caprese salad which was fine, but my arugula salad was not up to par. For our entrees we ordered the Teriyaki salmon & Ahi tuna. Both were good, Ahi tuna was cooked to just the right doneness & flavor was great. For desert, ordered banana cream pie & chocolate moose cake. They were both very good. The servers were attentive & the ambiance was quaint. My recent experience was horrific. I reserved a private room for thirteen people. First of all it was set for twelve guest (no big deal) the main issue was the size of the room - it was seriously the size of a walk-in closet. My first reaction was to turn around and leave, it was my guest who said we'll try and make the best of it. One end of the table was butted up against the heater (that guest was pressed up against it) the opposite end of the table was two feet from the kitchen door (that guest was practically in the kitchen) - the entire room was very claustrophobic! The owner squeezed us in like sardines - it was disastrous! Can't say anything great about the service either- we were rushed through the entire meal which was nothing to write home about (mediocre). And the waiter took it upon himself to bring the birthday cake out (it was a milestone birthday) without asking when it should come out and who it was for...how rude! He obviously placed it in front of the wrong guest. Plus there were a few guest away from the table at that time (can't blame them ...they needed air). I discussed all these concerns about the room prior to booking and there was no music either! One of my guest used her phone for music. Absolutely no ambiance whatsoever! We opted to sit outside in the porch area, which is lovely. The atmosphere of the restaurant itself is sophisticated and quaint, but being right on a road and near the airport take away a bit from the ambience. Okay, I already said I was excited so perhaps my expectations got the better of me this time. I was disappointed in the food; there was just nothing special. The fried calamari appetizer was basic and equivalent to what you would get at any chain. I ordered the chicken, which was okay. The side of gnocchi (which I normally love) with homemade marinara was totally flavorless. My boyfriend ordered the filet mignon sandwich on garlic bread which was the best thing we ate there. The garlic bread was a nice touch for that. There was a long list of dessert options, two of which were homemade, and we settled on the traditional tartufo (since you can't go wrong with that). I recently visited West Trenton and was taken to this place on a high recommendation. I was not disappointed. It was so good I had to visit Blooming Grove Inn a second time in the same week. Both visits were for lunch. The first time I had the grilled roast pork sandwich which is roast pork with provolone and spinach on grilled rye bread. The second visit I had one of my favorite dishes, chicken piccata with mashed potatoes and string beans. No exaggeration, this was the best example of chicken piccata I've ever had. The chicken breast was cooked to perfection with an outstanding lemon sauce and of course the traditional capers. I can't close out this review without mentioning their desserts. On my second visit, I had their chocolate bourbon pecan pie. On a scale of 1 to 10, this was a 9, only to be outdone by the dessert I had on my first visit, their signature banana cream pie drizzled with butterscotch sauce. If you find a better version of this, it's only because you're in Heaven, because Lord knows you're not getting a better rendition of banana cream pie here on earth. Finally there was the service, everyone was extremely courteous and quick to respond to patrons. Plus the two waitresses I saw were super hot, Karissa and then I forgot the other woman's name. I know, probably not a selling point for some but it all added to two exceptional lunch visits to the very well run Blooming Grove Inn. My only complaint is that it's two states away from me.
