One of New Jersey's oldest breweries, founded in 1996. In 2007 it came under new ownership, and in…read more2013 it moved to its current facility in an industrial park in Ewing, NJ. They recently acquired MD brewery DuClaw as well and continue to brew their beers and distribute under the same name. They distribute widely across NJ, PA, NY so it's pretty easy to find at liquor stores and restaurants, and I've had their beers many times over the years. Their beer is pretty solid with some fun and inventive offerings. My girlfriend and I stopped into their taproom for the first time on a Sunday afternoon and it was quite possibly the worst taproom we've ever been to out of 80+ NJ breweries we have visited together. It looks like they concentrate all of their time and effort on production and distribution and have not spent any time creating a decent place to hang out. Almost no decor. All plastic cups (a personal pet peeve of mine in breweries). Not even a permanent bar of any kind. There were only four other people the whole time we were there so the atmosphere was pretty dead. We ordered flights, and the names of the beers were written in abbreviations right on the cups which made it impossible to read on the darker beers. But the beer was very good! We really enjoyed our flights and bought a six pack of the imperial pumpkin ale to bring home with us. We'll continue to drink their beer, but I don't recommend coming to the taproom at all.

Some of the beers are passable but nothing seems to be great. The atmosphere of the place is…read moreunfortunately run down and tired looking. In fact, there's really no atmosphere at all. I will stop in on occasion to fill a growler or grab some cans to go but would not want to spend any time here. A basic remodel would change the game or at a minimum a cleaning and fresh coat of paint wouldn't hurt either.

In my opinion, it is the best gym around and it is truly a lifestyle beyond anything. The Escape is the perfect place to do exactly that. The bartenders admittedly spike the drinks with extra alcohol, and God knows what else ;)

Friends who were NAC members invited me to Escape Resort as their guest before Covid. Although I…read morehad been inside the facility several times over the years, I had never seen the new outdoor pools and water park theme up close. Have to say that while it appears to be an amusement park from beyond the fence with massive water slides and multiple aquamarine pools for various uses; from within it makes more sense and is actually quite attractive in a hyperactive way. Happy Hour with half price drinks was a good deal, and the bar food offerings were also well designed to complement the alcoholic drinks, if not all that tasty, nor compelling in their own right. So many people in a relatively small space around the bar, that conversation was a bit challenging. Plenty of alternative distractions among the many "beautiful" folks who enjoy being the center of attention, and know how to do it right, especially when encouraged with beverage. With music playing in the background the experience was a mixed bag. Clearly, the plan is a bit over the top, and made for people with kids or those who like this glitterati experience. Yet, there was a full house that evening, and business was booming. Covid put an end to the crowds for the last year, but I suspect the club will be back in action full tilt come vaccinations and reduced mask wearing. I'm the more cautious type, and will wait a while before accepting my next invitation.

I couldn't stay long, so I didn't get to try the food, but I saw that they seemed to have a pretty good happy hour food deal on a burger for Thursdays. Pretty clean inside, and overall it's a nice spot, but the bathroom is quite a walk from the main bar! Looks like they have a lot of room in there potentially for private parties and such too, which is cool. We had a table in the corner near the front door, which wasn't in very clear view of the waitstaff, so it was a bit hard to get their attention, though once they had our attention, the server was very friendly and helpful. I'd return for another try, and might plan a future happy hour after work there! It's only about ten minutes from the office.

This was formerly yet another of their restaurants called Union Boil which we weren't a fan of. The name Pennytown pays homage to the original name of the town. There is an English Pub motif and a cozy feel inside. We came to try their happy hour and it far exceeded our expectations. We tried the white bean hummus, the fried cauliflower, and the zucchini Frite. These were not frozen typical bar food apps. They were definitely hand cut from fresh veggies and so delicious. We must have said wow with every bite. During happy hour, weekdays between 4-6 there's a nice selection of apps for half price and drinks and wines were only $5. Service was also great and the appetizer portions were so big, two of us ended up not being able to even finish them. Our bill was $30 for 3 giant and delicious apps, and 3 drinks. Where can you get that these days? We will definitely be frequenting this happy hour and trying some other things on the menu as well. The bar pies looked delicious and they had some nice specials posted on the blackboard too.
