Customer service on the first floor of Bloomingdale's on Michigan Avenue is pathetic. On August 11, 2022, I wanted to return a tote that I had purchased in the store and was told by four salespersons to go to someone else. First, I asked a sales clerk named Olga in the Cosmetics Dept. if she would process the return. She told me to go to the purse department even though she had no clients at that time. The clerk in the purse department told me he was in the middle of processing a return and sent me to the jewelry and accessories department. The sales clerk there told me to go to the online sales and return department. The sales clerk in the online sales department told me that they only process online sales returns even though I was the only one there at that time. After being shuffled around by 4 sales clerks, I asked to speak to a manager. At that point, the clerk in the online sales department said he would process my return and said there was no need to call a manager. The return process took less than one minute. I eventually was able to speak to Christina, a manager in the furniture department. The manager for the first floor was on vacation. She apologized and told me that any sales clerk on the floor, regardless of which department they worked in, can process a return. What an unpleasant experience. read more

I think they had better customer service at Sears than at this Bloomingdale's location. Unbelievably rude and lazy women work at the Jo Malone counter. Four employees chose to either stand around talking to each other or reach around me as if I was not even there. After being nearly stepped on by one of them, she rudely asked if I was being helped. This review is for the Gucci store in Bloomingdale's. I was not impressed with their customer service. There was this young lady on her cell phone the whole time we were in the store, she wasn't very enthusiastic or made us feel welcomed. We were the only ones in the store. So, not impressed. I am not a Bloomingdale's shopper...never have been...and most likely never will be. My husBAND received a Christmas gift from his sister for Christmas 2010 which was purchased at a Bloomingdale's in Boston. In January of 2011, we went to exchange the gift for a different size and they no longer had any of this item in his size available. So, we opted for a gift card and would just try back later. We completely forgot about this gift card as we are not Bloomingdale's shoppers. That was until we discovered it while cleaning out a drawer in August 2011. We logged on to the Bloomingdale's site and proceeded to spend an hour or so shopping. Upon checking out, we received an error message that our gift card was not valid. Weird. We called the 800 number on the back of the card and it stated this card was not valid. So, we spoke with a live person who explained that we would need to physically go into the store to rectify. Uggggh. A couple more months go by and we finally decide to make the trek downtown. First, however, we call over to the location and speak with the manager. The manager stated they understood our problem and to come in and go to Guest Services and we would be helped. Well, we got swamped with the holidays and FINALLY made it in last week. We explained our situation. The customer service representative was nice enough, but you could tell that either a) she felt we were at fault for this somehow or b) she could care less. Perhaps this is because she asked us if we mistakenly used the gift card and just forgot about it. Then suggested the card that has no expiry date had expired. Eh??? However, she was nice. No lie...45 minutes go by...we are listening to her talk back and forth to her manager over several phone calls. We are then told there is nothing they can do and that we should have kept our receipt. Excuse me...a receipt for a return...who keeps a receipt for a return. Nope, we aren't accepting that answer. More time passes. Eventually we are told that the manager would need to do further research, but we could leave our phone number and name and account number to be credited once researched. Leave my account number??? Hello...you guys couldn't even load a gift card properly...I am not leaving any account information with you!!! So, $10.99 in parking wasted and 1 plus hour of our lives we will never get back. Four days later we get a call from someone in their NY operations. She asked a few questions and said she would call back. Wow, within 10 minutes she did just that. However, it was to tell us that the amount of the gift had been credited back to my husBAND's sister's Bloomingdales card in July of 2011 instead of being loaded on the gift card. Two things wrong with this: 1) What? 2) July??? We returned this in January!!! We gave up. We called my husBAND's sister and told her the story and asked her to verify that she received the credit so we could close this case. She did and they had. Embarrassing!!! We had to tell someone that we returned their gift all because an employee made a bizarre oopsy. However, there was no way we were going to possibly let this company keep free money...so we had to ask her. So, yeah...not impressed and not a fan of Bloomingdale's. read more

For a long time I've been buying on line, but I wanted to test the NARS eye pencil , that I couldn't find in another store and I didnt want to buy on line because I wanted to try it . I had so much fun today buying there , Corey who works there is one of the best makeup artist I've ever seen! He is so knowledgeable, charismatic and with tons of patience that I enjoyed the feeling of going and buying at the store, feeling that you can not get buying on line. Used 2ND floor mens room today great! No soap in all 3 sinks. That's really sanitary. Also mens dept only good for wispy,skinny men. Except for polo ,all brands carried here are cut for very skinny men. Nothing for guys a little on heavy side. No large size shoes either. Perfect selection for the manorexic gentleman. Obviously bloomingdales has determined that their customer is an urban customer,possibly an aspiring or current hip hop artist judging g by branding and type of music played in mens department. Not a place for a traditional,conservative gentleman,that's for sure. And it doesn't look like this branding strategy is a successful one because presumably if there were more sales being made,bloomingdales could afford to fill the soap dispensers. I think that Bloomingdale's does the best job of presenting visual eye candy to us shoppers - their outfits, displays and designer sections are just killer. However, I am a department store sale shopper at heart, so it saddens me to say that while it is beautiful, Bloomie's doesn't offer the best discounts around - I'd say it comes in fourth behind Lord & Taylor, Macy's and Nordstrom. That said, this location has a few unique things going for it where sales are concerned. Its shoe section is awesome - plenty of Stuart Weitzman, Tory Burch and other high-end brands for 65% off. Wonderful. And a few floors up, you can find brands like Theory and BCBG Max Azria for 50% off. Equally wonderful. The only drawback is the customer service - I think they discriminate majorly against sale shoppers here. You're pretty much ignored in favor of the Real Housewives of Chicago who are browsing the $700 shoes. But hey, these are salespeople with quotas to fill... can we really blame them? read more

So you will occasionally find me working here...for the discount. Bloomie's has some really great sales, if you know when to shop. Secret tip: ALWAYS ask your salesperson if there is an upcoming pre-sale! We don't advertise everything, but they will usually be happy to tell you about the next big sale because they have a pre-sale goal to meet. Sales typically run Thursday-Sunday and you may get an extra discount with a Bloomie's card. Pros: cosmetics department is pretty extensive (see Grace at the Dior counter if you want to look like a supermodel), 5th floor contemporary department, good array of petite and plus size apparel Cons: women's shoe department is very small, turnover is high so employees aren't always informed about products, not a good selection of basics (white blouses, t-shirts) UPDATE: This is the place to go if you want to spot celebs. Their shoe department has gotten a lot better. They carry a lot of mid-range designers, and have had some fantastic shoe sales. However, I was terribly disappointed in their cosmetic counter yesterday. There were a lot of out of stocks of my favorite items, and the lady at the Lancome counter was less than helpful. But I did get a free gift with purchase, so I was pleased. Unlike other free gifts with purchase, I got to choose seven out of 11 items. This is fantastic because now I don't have 20 pairs of lipstick that I will never use. The woman at Chanel was absolutely fantastic in helping me pick out the perfect shade of red lipstick. It looks great. Overall, I really like shopping here because I can park my car for six dollars. read more

I stopped in here the other day to check out some rain boots. I was very thrilled when I saw the exact pair that has caught my eye online sitting on the shelf. I stood there waiting for assistance from the many slacking employees that chitchatted over in the corner. Finally, an older man asked "what do you want". I initially brushed off his rude approach and showed him the boots that caught my eye. All he said was "you know those are wide calf boots right" and told me they dont have my size. Meanwhile, still trying to ignore his attitude, I asked about a sign that was near the display at the time, mentioning a 40% off sale. I asked if the particular style that I wanted was in stock and he simply said "no" and then just turned and walked away. I was shocked. Never will i return to this location. read more

I used to shop Bloomies regularly (at least 1X/week), however the declining customer service has effectively done what all my husband's threats could not...& cured me of my Bloomies habit. I would rather spend my money where sales staff are helpful & invested in their jobs. I actually had a sour, passive-aggressive sales associate in the kids department yesterday give me attitude (snide comments about me questioning a price difference between 2 identical pieces in different colors & snooty shaking of her hideous mop of a head as I changed my mind about a piece). For the first time in my life I walked away mid purchase. I told that COW of a salesperson that I refuse to buy anything from her due to the "nice" attitude she had displayed. Why are these people working in sales?? To the management at Bloomingdales: stop hiring these sour, frumpy women in their 40's/50's who don't have any idea what customer service really means(particularly in the kids dept). They obviously resent having to work; and that resentment is poured out onto your customers. I have tolerated the recent decline in customer service as I have been loyal to your store for years. No longer! I will spend my money where I, the customer, will be appreciated. read more

Really love the Contemporary section in this store! The selection of designer denim is fabulous! Found the cutest pairs of Citizens of Humanity jeans there a few months back! They also carry DVF, Milly, James Perse, Splendid, and Susanna Monaco, who I adore! They get one star knocked off because the store is in disrepair. The casual/contemporary department at Bloomingdales is potentially fantastic -- I especially like the organization and selection in the Theory area. The other areas of the contemporary wear, though containing a large depth of selection, are disorganized. I lack the patience to dig through racks, and sales people are not easily available (except in Theory, where there are several helpful girls). Their formal wear for women is good -- they even carry high-end petite dresses (short girls like to wear designer labels, too!), and their shoes and cosmetics departments are great! read more

Hadn't been to Bloomingdale's since I work there and up there in 1998. What else up on North Michigan Avenue and I decided to go in and see how it looked. They did a lot of remodeling and they moved certain areas from where I remember them from. Some departments were really busy and then others were not busy at all. I was looking for the restroom and ask when associate where was the ladies room. He just pointed it said over there. Then I saw another associate and I asked her where was the ladies room and she told me the direction to go to. Afterwards I really didn't do any shopping I was hungry so I decided to go to the restaurant on the 6th floor. Well they change the name of it since I work there it is now known as 40 carats. It is Bloomingdale's and they have changed some of the names of places that reflect the Chicago or Midwestern average fear which is good. read more

The store overall is fine, the people who work here seem gracious and ready to help. The low star rating is for the Chanel counter people especially one woman in particular. She couldn't have been more rude, I was prepared to buy a few things and she just didn't want to help me. I asked to look at an eye liner and she handed it to me with a mirror and walked away. What a shame, I know it's not Bloomingdales but she works there and made this a terrible experience. I'm beyond disappointed. I occasionally head down Michigan Avenue for some shopping and decided to go inside Bloomingdale's to purchase shoes for work. I certainly do not mind spending a couple hundred on quality shoes, therefore, I know that you can't spend less than $100 on shoes here. I work inside of Bloomingdales but my paycheck doesn't come from them, so just keep that in mind. My broke ass never thought it could be considered a Bloomingdale's shopper, but their sales and bargains are pretty awesome. Ever since Marshall Fields disappeared I think this is the next best place to get some higher end fashion deals for a remarkable price. Their "juniors/Y.E.S." department has a good assortment of marc jacobs, dvf, french connection and bcbg brands. On weekends there is usually an additional discount on the clearance stuff. Be sure to check out the david yurman boutique and the handbags department to make you wish you won the lotto. read more

This review was almost going to be a negative 1 star review. However it is how upper managements involvement in a really poor experience in the men's Hugo Boss section turned it around. The store was having one of its sales and I am a good customer to this location as well as NY and LA...I was in Chicago on business and they work with some hotels that allow you to get a coupon for an additional 10-15% off. I was looking at a leather jacket in the Hugo Boss section, it was hanging with others on the 40% off rack. I asked Joey B. ( an extremely helpful sakes associate ) if they had my size and he checked and the manican was wearing my 38r size. Before he went to take it off I asked him for the price. He was having difficulty in the computer with thus item when another sales person, out of kindness I will not state his name other than it does start with a J., approached and asked if he could assist Joey. His very aggressive response was to tell us that that us not part of the sale and that the hotel coupon would also not work for this item. Never said hello, only brought his whirlwind of horrible salesmanship and negativity. Never do you approach via customer with what you cannot do for him, rather what you can/ will do. I told this person that it was on the sale rack with others and he should move them off the rack if that's true. He never spoke another word to us, just went on about his morning. Joey tried to assist me but the moment was ruined and I felt like I had been assaulted by the other hostile sales person J. I left the store and was so bothered by this experience I called and spoke with Emily a manager. She was delighted to hear my feedback and stated that if its in a sale rack that price should be honored ( which I thought originally ) and if I wanted to try it on she would be able to honor the price. I told her of the wonderful Joey that was attempting to help. When I returned I found Joey, he called Emily and other than my discomfort about waiting in another area so i didn't have to feel this other persons hostile behavior. I bought the jacket, and yes the hotel coupon also scanned in very easily. Thank you Joey and Emily..I truly hope you bring J up to your level or suggest he find a job not dealing with people. If I could live and die in Bloomie's, I would. That's just how much I love that store. I can ALWAYS find what I'm looking for there, and even stuff I never knew I needed! They always have awesome sales, so you can get high quality stuff for good prices. They're always less expensive than Nordstrom from what I've found. And they also have a better selection of contemporary women's clothing. They have these sales where you can use coupons on top of the sale price and I've been able to get in season stuf for like 70% off! read more

This review is for the Sunglasses Department. I spent a good thirty minutes trying to be-speckle myself with some aviators. This entire process proved so much more difficult than my usual eyewear shopping. One of the associates in the department proverbially held my hand throughout the entire process and even suggested some wrap around aviator styles that worked beautifully on my odd-shaped mug. I left, after about thirty minutes, with a new pair of Marc Jacobs rimless aviators that I adore. And, I adore you, Bloomies. read more

Tried to return a purchase from online that I received as a gift. Despite bringing everything I received in the package including the packaging itself that wasn't sufficient. They offered me the lowest sale price on the item. It was the worst experience with a return. They tried to give me a $0.01 for an item bought 2 weeks stating it that is the price for really old merchandise. Then when they located the dress they double the price that was paid and tried to get me to sign off on that. I just want what I spent and not a hassle. The kicker was that the register faced a mirror and when I had my back to the register I could see the staff whispering behind me in the mirror. I was going to purchase a new Marc by Marc handbag and still am - not at bloomingdale's. I thought bloomingdales was supposed to be known for superior customer service. Bloomingdale's remains my favorite department store in Chicago. Actually if I had unlimited funds I'd probably choose Neimans, but Bloomies is within in my price range. They have a great shoe department, which has really good sales. The makeup department is also good, although I wish they'd get Trish McEvoy (my favorite) already! When it comes to clothes I spend most of my time on the 5th floor where they have a great selection of trendy brands. I looked on the 3rd floor today for some dresses for upcoming weddings and I was very impressed with the selection. read more

The purchasing experience at the store was pleasant but if you have any issues, don't expect any service going forward. I bought (what we thought was) a very nice sofa in May and after a mere 4 months the cushions were failing and I'm not sure why, couldn't be my 110 lb body! I called the store, lots of back and forth and they sent a specialist out to take a look. He surveyed it and agreed it was defective. Offered to insert foam to help support them but being such a new sofa I was concerned about the overall quality of the piece. I requested a refund based on the defectiveness (sofa had been discontinued) and it was agreed to but in that process of arranging that, mgmt changed their mind and only offered foam inserts. I'm not sure why they went against their word. Many sofas offer a manuf warranty of a year for fabric and foam which I am looking into. I just don't understand the unwillingness of help from the store, thanks for taking my money Evelyn (sales assoc). This isnt value city and the reason why I shop at higher end stores, for service if it's needed! Would've been better off at value city. What a waste of money. read more

Ordered a very nice wedding gift from the Bloomingdales registry April 29 for a June 2nd wedding. A few days before the wedding realized my card had not been charged. Called and was told the item was on back order until July 22. Why wasn't I notified? July 24 I called and was told the item is now on back order until October! Again, why wasn't I notified? I will never order from Bloomingdales again. Matter of fact I'm so upset I don't think I'll ever shop there again. What so hard about sending an order update Bloomingdales? The sales people at this location are not professional and need better training. I bought a pair of boots online and when they didn't fit, I brought them into the store to return. The salesman claimed that I "wore the boots" and I had to to tell him that I simply tried them on. Not only is that a rude question but maybe the salesman should have been sure before he accused me of returning worn merchandise. He let me make the return but that still doesn't excuse the behavior. I will definitely be thinking twice before coming back to this location again. read more

After falling in love with my friend's Anne Klein raincoat, I rushed out to 900 North to see if I could find something similar. Go figure, Bloomingdale's was just the right stop. They had an excellent selection of winter coats and beyond, all ready for me to take them home. How do I choose! OMG. The sales people there were ready to take on the challenge. Giving honest (at least I hope!) compliments and criticism, I find my gem and absolutely love it. The store is clean ad so well lit, my eyes did not know where to focus next. While the clothing areas weren't as heavily staffed, the shoe department had quite a few smiling faces ready to assist. OK OK, so what they carry is fantastic, don't get me wrong!!! BUT who works there - not so much. Cosmetics personnel is nice and attentive, playful and approachable. But I feel like as higher up you go in the store floors, as less of professionalism is going on. Unfortunately. As me and my mom approached dress department on a third floor I have noticed 3 sales associates. NONE of them said hello or acknowledged us in any way. You could tell it is a beginning of a prom season because the only people who was taken care of nicely were moms or dads with teen daughters. As I was piling up dresses I wanted to try on and walking around - again, NONE of associates asked if I need fitting room and helped me with the load. And mind you I ran into couple of them face to face. So I had to find a fitting room myself to at least to ease my hand holding multiple items, it was getting heavy. While I was trying on dresses later, no one checked on me and asked if I need more sizes and other options. Overall it was disappointing. It used to be a luxe store where I would have pleasure of going and treating myself with something very special, which used to include experience of shopping itself. Nowadays its just a beautiful clothes that I still love, though not the service. Maybe I should try online shopping? read more

My wife and I came in as lowly tourists from Texas (and wore it on our sleeves) and were treated like honored guests. true life:: i'm a bloomie's girl. prior to 2oo6, it was a tie between bloomie's and marshall field's, but once macy's took over, there was no question (and i have since refused to shop there). of all the department stores on the avenue, you won't find a better selection of high-end denim or dresses for any occasion. they also excel in having multiple sizes, not just the 00s you see everywhere else. i needed a dress for a black tie event and i thought i'd be fair and shop at the other *big three* on the avenue. i put dresses on hold at the other stores, but i found the *perfect* dress at the last stop:: bloomie's. of course. chloe is a breath of fresh air and not only offered her opinions on the dresses i tried on, but she even left her department and walked with me to intimates to pick up a few more items and rang me up at an empty register. service from start to finish - that's what i'm talking about. but it goes beyond apparel. the makeup and accessories departments are loaded with experts and the shoe department has gotten much better over the years as well. shopping here is just all-around pleasant. therapeutic, even. i will forever be loyal to bloomingdale's. read more

A chicago staple, this is the place where my first bra was purchased, and I have loved it ever since. Sometimes the shoe department can have crap service, but I try to only buy shoes there during non-peak hours! Huge selection and they offer nothing but the best. Their sales are good too! read more
