Their shoe department has some great sales. I've scored some great deals on shoes that I couldn't find anywhere else (even Coach!) I do agree that some departments have condescending sales staff in other departments but the shoes are what I go there for. read more

I'm very unsatisfied that the home store on Wabash was closed an hr earlier than they said. I paid for parking for no reason. Then I had to go to the Michigan store and pay again just to return some stuff. I'm glad I found another store with the brands I like so I won't have to go thru this again. read more

Great fashion and new items all the time. Staff are easy to work with and personable. However, the best place to check is the clearance. I've gotten some super deals - I actually have never bought anything here that wasn't on sale. What is wrong with this Bloomingdale's? How do their salespeople make money? Isn't the word "sales" part of the job description? Seems that all that the employees in Bloomingdale's do is size up their potential customers, decide that we somehow do not meet some unstated, invisible standard for service and then ignore us. Which makes us leave and shop elsewhere. Hence - no "sales." Perfect example last night - I stopped in to buy a fresh tube of mascara. I don't need a lot of help with this - I knew exactly what brand I needed, as well as the color and the type. Simple purchase. Stopped in after work, on my way to the Equinox in the building. I stood and stood at the Trish McEvoy counter. Yes, I know cosmetics people are representing "their" line and heaven forbid that they walk out from behind "their" counter and deign to touch the inferior products from another brand. I get that part of their pay comes from the company they represent. But how hard would it have been to say hello, ask if I needed some help and try to find someone who could open up a drawer, pull out a tube of mascara and ring it up for me? This must be why I don't work for Bloomingdale's (and why my Nordstrom credit card is always so high while I never have a balance on my Bloomingdale's account.) - I have common sense and try to treat people with courtesy. All people. That said, I do love the Forty Carrots restaurant on the top floor - mainly because the staff there actually acknowledges my existence on the face of the planet - and they give me good, friendly service. So it's back to Nordstrom where I know I'll be greeted with a smile and where their commissioned sales staff is only too happy to provide me with basic service. read more

I am extremely disappointed in the service I received from Bloomingdales! We purchased a Kooples Emily Purse from Bloomingdales which after minimal use, was clearly defective. The brass plate became discolored and worn after a few uses. We have gone back and forth for several months between Kooples and Bloomingdales - emails/photos/visits - only to be told today that Bloomingdales cannot replace it because they can only accept returns for items that are in "saleable" condition. ah, bloomies. where grownups shop. i love their makeup counters; the girls at smashbox are particularly helpful and they have this one product that is super: the photo finish cream really does fill in your complexion and makes your look very 'finished.' i'd use smashbox every day except i'm allergic to SPF. dangit. i love their men's department: i shop for my dad here all the time. he's in his 60s but he still likes to look current and i like shopping for the urban/preppie thing he likes so much. love their women's section: as more stores forget that not all women are size 0 18 year olds, bloomies is the only one that still considers working women over size 14 to be very important to them. they've introduced some newer, younger lines and while INC is still their mainstay, they've offset it nicely with more higher end lines. they've expanded their selection, adding very wearable evening wear and of course, eileen fisher and sigrid olsen are still there. their sales are great and they have enough of a selection that shopping for work is easy here. two of the sales women on this floor know me by sight and they make me feel welcome (always a plus for retail - Macy's should take a note.) anyway, if you're not a teenybopper or a mad hipster - if you're just a woman who likes quality in her shopping, then thank goodness Bloomies is here. read more

I felt comfortable as I developed preference during my tour of designed smells, though I was previously unfamiliar with many of the bouquets. Bloomingdale's now features the ultra-premium Sisley skincare line and I highly recommend a visit to this first-floor counter. I had the most welcoming and wonderful experience, working with Cynthia and Jeffery. They had me try a wide variety of advanced serums and anti-age products -- all of which I loved. These are extremely high-potency bio-based products with a great deal of science behind them. The company's global aesthetician, Kim, happened to be working in Chicago that day and she spent time with me also. She made recommendations for my skin and even gave me a mini Shiatsu scalp massage. (She had not one line on her face, btw!) Of course the products are very expensive but the team gave me a game plan. They start you off with one or two products and "fill in" with samples, which is very considerate. Don't hesitate to walk up and see what Sisley is all about. I'm not one to normally give reviews, but I was so satisfied by the customer service at this location that I wanted to give them a little bit of recognition. I have been having trouble locating 7 bridesmaids dresses for my sister's wedding all in the correct sizes, but Shaina in the dress department made this all possible for me. She was so extremely helpful and super friendly (even though I felt as if I was being a pain) and did everything she could to make sure I was completely satisfied. Mary Lee in the DKNY department was extremely rude! I had to call numerous times to attempt to get in touch with her about a skirt I wanted to order over the phone (that she claims she released from hold because she did not hear back from me)! Such a disappointment after I asked her to hold it for two days--and followed up with someone in the department every day to assure it was being held. She eventually told me someone else can handle it for me as she would be off the next day, it was too late to go look for it again because she had closed her register and the store was about to close. The merchandise selection is nice so I keep coming back. However, the store is a mess and hard to shop in. The employees on 2 of women's clothing floors are either rude to customers or can be heard from the fitting rooms as they argue who is going to take the commission. I thought the first situation was a one-off but this has become consistent with each one of my shopping experiences. A girl on the first make up floor today was incredibly rude and tried to educate me on something/prove me wrong while being very rude on a subject matter that I'm well informed on because my skin is so sensitive. i used to be the personal shopper there, so i know the ENTIRE store!! the contemporary floor....(i forget what they call it....b-style or something)....is terrific! great nanette lepore and tracey reese....not to mention the denim for as far as the eye can see....the cosmetics area is another favorite....i LOVE laura mercier and la prarie....the shoe area is newly upgraded with more upscale lines....yippie! and bloomies has the best sales!!!! you only have to spend something in the neighborhood of $2000 a year to make ultimate premier if you use the bloomies card and then you get free shipping and wrapping and stuff.....so if you go....ask for Rachel in the DKNY area or Sandal in the Dana Buchman area....they are my good friends and the most excellent of sales people! p.s. the B Cafe has really good lunches....and the owner of the cafe is sweet....it's on the top floor of the store! read more

I echo all the reviews regarding horrible customer service. The last time I was here, I walked by five or six sales associates (all of whom definitely looked me in the eye)--all so absurdly done up but couldn't be bothered to acknowledge me or offer assistance. The one employee who finally said something sounded absolutely bored. They need to get off the pedestals that they imagine themselves to be on. If they work on commission, then they are all gigantic morons who need to rethink their professions. Go to Nordstrom or Neiman Marcus for infinitely better service. Bloomingdale's needs some major work on its hiring decisions. read more

Great store and merchandise. HUGE caution on the salespeople in the Men's Suits area. Mary is a fine salesperson but lied and misled me about alterations. After committing to a great Hugo Boss suit for $975 and $170 in alterations she told me they would be lifetime alterations. Upon trying to exercise that, the store will not honor what she promised. I hate their shoe department, and I rate department stores based on their shoe department. I feel like people have such a personal connection to specific department stores based on things like personal connections, growing up being taken to certain department stores over others by your mom, where you shopped as a teenager with your girlfriends, just to name a few...for me, my three go to department stores in Chicago are Neiman Marcus, Barney's, and Nordstrom. But my best friend loves Bloomingdale's! It's a personal choice that I gotta respect. For me, in addition to my dislike of the shoe department, I don't like the layout of their clothing floors either...like I said, it's such a specific, personal choice, especially for women! Great lunch counter, and you can actually buy Petrossian caviar here, a holiday staple. Great settings for both the dept. store and the home store. This NY classic fits well here in the Windy City. Luckily, the unwashed masses are afraid of all things East Coast and therefore you can usually shop without crowds. Hopefully they stay profitable enough to remain here. At 900 N. Mich, Great array of merchandise, always classic styles among the newest trends. Gleaming cosmetics dept, on the first floor, Great sunglasses, home furnishings, apparel, shoes, though men's shoes could have a bigger selection. Fifth floor (or is it fourth) of the 900 N Michigan store is a cool designer boutique for men and women, featuring the latest casual wear from both coasts. Chicago needs Bloomie's, so the astute, tasteful crowd has a place to shop. read more

Sorry but for as long as I have been shopping at the Mich Ave Bloomies, I really feel like the customer service sucks, particularly in cosmetics. About two years ago, I stopped by the Laura Mercier counter for some specific items I'd read about. It was a very steamy hot August Saturday and there were not many people shopping. In any case, the woman behind the counter seemed rather frazzled and didn't know how to handle two customers at once. But I cut her some slack since she was very nice. I bought a bunch of stuff and then she asked me if I wanted to be on her e-mail list. I agreed. Never got anything from her, ever. About a year later, I went back (I know, I'm a glutton for punishment) and she could not find the product I'd come to buy. I asked about the mailing list and she seemed confused but then said she was having some trouble getting it started. She did offer to call Saks to see if they had the product (they did and I bought it there). Cut to last week, when I stopped by the same counter for a product I'd just read about in the NY Times. There were two men there this time- one was on the phone. The other guy offered to help me but then didn't seem to know anything about the Laura Mercier line. He said we had to wait until the other guy was off the phone. Well, that guy also had no idea what I was talking about but took down my name and phone number "so that the actual rep" could talk to me about it. I asked when she was coming in and he said, "Sometime soon." I mean, really? Why bother even opening if you are staffed with people who can't sell anything? Needless to say, it's been almost a week and I've received no phone call. Meanwhile, that night, I went online and purchased the product directly from the Laura Mercier web site- free shipping, and free samples. Third strike and you're out, Bloomie's! I like some of your products but I'd rather buy online than deal with your clueless, helpless employees. read more

I usually enjoy shopping at Bloomingdales but this last experience was awful. I wanted to buy a Halston Heritage Skirt and asked for alterations since I wanted to fix it a bit. The woman from alterations was extremely rude, saying that she did not want to change the shape of the skirt and that it was a complicated job. First if I buy the skirt I can do with it whatever I want. Second she wanted to fix the skirt without giving me a quote. What was I supposed to just buy it without knowing what the total was going to be. She got pissed because I wanted to take my decision of purchase depending on the price on alteration. I left disappointed but the sales person contacted me and I went back to purchase it without the alteration. At night I log into bloomingdales online and I just not only noticed that she charged me $325 for a skirt that online marks as $245 with a current sale of $177. I would expect this to happen in another establishment but not in Bloomingdales. Disappointed for how I was treated and also for charging me more than it really costs.! read more

My daughter was trying on dresses and her diamond necklace was stolen from neck at Bloomingdales!!!! The Chicago Police department was called and an investigation was opened but since no cameras are in the fitting rooms nothing else could be done. Hate this store, was a 2ct hearts on fire diamond pendant, funny thing is that the sales associate that was helping us left sick asap once done with us...Ag..can't Recall her European name. read more

I'm torn on how many stars to give Bloomingdale's. They have some really great stuff like, cosmetics, shoes, clothes, clothes and also clothes. I will say that they are expensive (as if you didn't know), but the quality is there and the store is well organized. The torn on stars comes from me being in the store close to closing time...30 minutes prior. I was lugging around a batch of clothing and couldn't get the attention of any of the associates (I needed a fitting room and was trying to locate a specific denim). They were all too busy "walking with purpose" and putting clothes away to be bothered by me. I finally stalked one of them down, but it was kind of annoying especially since I was there to drop $400 on 2 pairs of jeans. As of today, I can safely say I prefer Nordstrom. It was even steven before. Nordstrom has great customer service and is much less pretentious even though the carry the same stuff. read more

This is a very nice Bloomingdale's. The 2nd floor is devoted entirely to menswear and they do quite a good job, although the lack a lot of brands that one can find at the San Francisco and New York flagship stores. There's a great selection of underwear and socks from all brands, a huge Ralph Lauren section, John Varvatos, Michael Kors, Hugo Boss Red, Black and Orange Labels and they carry the new mens Tahari as well. Best to come here during sale time when one can rack up. The mens jeans and some contemporary sportswear is located on the 5th floor (sorta like a Barneys Co-op). You can find most of the designer jeans here as well as a large Theory selection. There's a very nice David Yurman section on the main floor, and the 6th floor Cafe is a great spot to grab a quick bite to eat. read more
