Bloomindale's is my favorite department store if I had to pick one. What's impressive is when you enter 900 North Michigan from the main entrance you can see the Bloomingdale's signs on every floor and there's 5 or so that you can see all from one particular place in the mall. My wife was looking for shoes but she didn't find what she was looking for but we did get something else while we were there. It's obvious who the anchor of the Shops at 900 is because you can see their name so many times it's crazy. I can't say I've seen another Bloomingdale's with this many floors. They have a nice mix and variety of merchandise all of which isn't necessarily the most expensive highest end stuff like at Neiman or Barney's but some higher end brands than Macy's. read more

But the real treasure is the customer service. They will bend over backwards to make your shopping experience as great as possible. Ashley, who specifically works in the Zadig & Voltaire department, is a special gem. She can help you out with anything you need. I had the absolute worst experience with horrible customer service. I was on the 2nd floor in the men's department looking for a birthday gift. I approach this Bloomingdale's worker in the photo to gain some assistance. He completely ignored my "excuse me sir" several times. When he finally looked up, I kindly asked where am item was located. He was incredibly hostile, and abrasive. Truly awful customer service Bloomingdale's. The Bloomingdale's (900 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago) and @bloomingdale's online failed to provide any service whatsoever and ruined a special purchase. I ordered a piece of fine jewelry online for in-store pickup at Michigan Ave. I waited all day for the email alert that my item was ready, and I needed it yesterday--hence the election to picknit up. With only a couple ours left before the store was to close, I called to check on my order. I spoke with two people who literally could not have cared less than I had a pending order that had not been fulfilled. I received no communication from Bloomingdale's all day after placing my order.The first woman just told me it had not been pulled and made absolutely no offer to help. She passed the phone to a man who told me tho "call .com" because the people who could or should have helped were gone for the day. Then he hung up. No sense of responsibility for helping me or trying to make sure that I got what I paid for. My email confirmation had the Michigan Ave store telephone number as the loint of contact. Nevertheless, I called .com since I had no other option. The person I spoke with eventually ended up contacting the Michigan Ave store to determine of the piece of jewelry was available there. Turns out that it was there and the store had just failed to fulfill my order. I thought, great, I'll be able to go grab it in time to stay on schedule. Then the representative said I'd just need to pay for the jewelry that they were holding for me at the store. Pay for it? I had already paid for it many hours ago. I said that didn't make sense, the jewelry they were now holding is the item I paid for already. He insisted that was somehow different, and I had to pay again--the previous purchase would eventually fall off of my credit card. Even if that were true, why should I be expected to obligate more of my credit (a double hold for a sizable amount) to correct an internal error on the part of Bloomingdale's? The item I ordered was at the store all along, they just didn't do their job to pull it and didn't do their job to try to help when I called, so I have to pay again?? I asked to speak with a manager and was somehow disconnected during the transfer. Certainly not a "luxury" level of service, not even a discount outlet level. I honestly cannot imagine that this would have been my experience at Nordstrom. read more

Bloomingdale's has lost a longtime customer. I placed an online order and 30 minutes later I received an email canceling my order because Bloomingdale's was "unable to verify information provided in connection with this purchase". I have been a longtime loyalist member and never had any issue with placing orders online. The email tells me to call the Consumer Protection Team. I call and the operator places me on a long hold after I provide my order number. She returns and says 1 item is NOW unavailable. It was available 30-40 minutes online!!! Now due to this verification bullcrap delay, it's no longer available??? I asked to speak with a manager/supervisor. Someone else comes on the line and says shes going to check the availability of the item in question...WOW its available again!!! How is this possible? She says, they refresh their system every 30 seconds! It all just rings very much SCAM!!! Maybe I'm paranoid, maybe I'm not but it was a terrible inconvenience and waste of my time. That's why I shop online. If I have to call, and reorder, and verify, and do whatever else, it defeats the purpose of the convenience of the online process. Let's just hope I actually receive the shipped items and the item required for store pickup is actually there!!! I came in close to closing looking to purchase some perfumes. Mayla greeted me as I walked past her section, patiently answered all of my questions, and was very informative about the products offered. She really knows her stuff! I never felt rushed or pressured to buy. Also, when I mentioned that I was from out of state, Mayla gave suggestions for entertainment and things to do in the area. Hi, For years I've been a Bloomingdales customer and loved the store because of the products they sale but more importantly the great customer service employees provide. On April 2, 2016 at 2:20pm I visited your store at 900 N Michigan to purchase some of your products in your fragrances section on the 2nd floor. I remembered the employee from past experiences (Rose) behind the counter. I knew it wasn't going to be a good experience since she is not the most friendly person. I truly believe that the customer is the backbone of any company and should always have a pleasant experience when visiting any business. I've never shopped at Bloomingdale's before this year because I always had the impression that they're too expensive, but as I've grown older and wiser, I've really started appreciating Bloomingdale's for the high quality of both products and service. Not only are the associates knowledgeable about products but they are not pushy. I've come in on several occasions perusing products and associates have taken the time to guide me through different products they thought I might like without any judgement if I walk away without purchasing. When shopping for some nice cashmere scarves for gifts, I found that they have the best selection out of all the department stores. Ordering online was seamless and easy to pick up in store. The holiday season comes with a few perks as there have been 25% off discounts OR cash back for certain amounts of money that you spend. While the prices are a bit higher, it's a much more comfortable shopping experience for higher quality products. Loving this place and my positive experiences here! read more

I ordered something online for curbside pickup at the Medinah Chicago Home store. I called the 1-800 number as instructed to ensure that they were open after all the looting and problems Chicago had. I was told that they were open and confirmed my order was ready for pickup. I drove 35 minutes to find that not only was the store NOT OPEN but there is a for lease sign and the building is completely boarded up. I spent two hours trying to resolve this with someone from the Philippines who absolutely refused to transfer me to the states. There are far too many good stores with Great customer service that I will now use. tearing up my credit card!!!! read more

I have shopped in the regular Bloomingdale's for clothing and Bloomingdale's Home (Chicago) for gifts. The latter has been mixed as the sales help tends to prejudge customers based on how they're dressed (in the spirit of Saks and why this retailer struggles now) or don't seem that interested in engaging. I did find an employee upstairs in the China and gift department who was eager to help me after I shared that the other employee wasn't really interested in helping me. She seemed to know who I was referencing and was very helpful. I am not sure why retailers hire unfriendly and critical sales associates who would rather talk to each other than wait on customers regardless of they dress up to go shopping or prefer to wear casual clothing. Otherwise, the merchandise is displayed well and there is a fine selection and the sales prices are often competitive. read more

NEVER GO THERE FOR JEWELRY AND WATCHES. We had the worst experience of customer services in the watch area 1st floor. We tried two watches but the man served us without saying a word, no introduction, just the face of no expression. We don't like the attitude. We didn't buy it in store but bought the one we like online and went there for picking up the 2nd day. It was that man again and acting like a pain in the ass because we didn't buy from him. He said I showed you this one yesterday, "Bloomingdale's doesn't offer changing the length of watch belt unless you buy in stores", "online and in store are different entities". In my great suit search of '08, this is where Caroline A and I started. The sales people were extremely friendly, very approachable and helpful. This is before we even got to the suit department! When we got there, we were greeted quite quickly by a sales staff member. I told him that I was looking for a black three button suit. Something classic, something that will last me more than a few years. I know the two button was coming back buuuuuuut I hate it on me. I was slightly disappointed to hear that they only carried a few. He came back with a about five for me to try on. He knew exactly where to go, what size to get and seemed almost automatic based on my suggestions. However, he brought back navy blue, (umm... I thought I said black), perhaps to try the sizing on me with the different brands. Yes, the jackets did fit quite spot on. However after trying on his suggestions, I wasn't thoroughly convinced I had found what I was in love with, so we moved on. Wow!! Great store!! My mom was in from out of town and the server from lunch spilled a drink inside my moms new Michael kors bag. They were replacing it but we were so flustered and could not find the exact bag. After two stores we noticed Bloomingdales and thought we would see if they had what we wereooming for. As we walked into the MK section a young lady came over and offered to help. She answered all questions and helped us find the exact bag. She helped cut the tags off so we could use it right away. I said can I buy a new glasses towel to replace this? She went over and got a clean one and put it in the bag for us. We found the perfect MK bag! We asked where we could get a glass of wine and she told us about the restaurant upstairs- perfect! I was searching for an outfit for a special event. I went to Bloomingdales because they usually have a unique selection of contemporary clothes for plus size women. I went after work, and quickly found a couple of great options. The problem was the sales person. She was quite snippy. She also told me things looked great even when I knew they were not a great fit. I left because I needed to think about the two best options. The next day I returned with a friend I put my selection on hold because I was on my lunch hour. When I returned to purchase the outfit I told the original sales person I wanted to purchase the outfit I had on hold. She said, "On hold? Who put it on hold for you?! You'll have to wait for her to get it for you. She went that way..." After searching for the other woman for several minutes, the rude sales woman got my skirt, and explained their commission structure to me. I think this is RIDICULOUS! I work in retail, on commission too. That sort of attitude would not be accepted at my store. Had I not found the perfect outfit, I would have walked out. read more

Another bad experience at Bloomingdale's. It started Saturday a week ago. My daughter and I, we went shopping at the Bloomingdale's at Old Orchard. After spending a nice amount of money and having a good time together, I discovered at home that a coat that I purchased was not only USED, but it also had small damage. It was a nice coat Ralph Lauren (RXL). Next day, I drove all the way back to Old Orchard to return the coat. With the help of a sales associate, we were able to track down the location of the same exact coats at the Bloomingdale's on Michigan Ave. They located a total of 8 coats, in different sized. On Monday, the third day of my "journey for the coat", I ended up at the Bloomingdale's on Michigan Ave. The store was almost empty, at 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon. I spent money on gas, I spent money to park my car, and I spent my time only to find out that they did not have the coat. They checked the computers, their inventory said that they had 8 coat's sales associates were sending me back and forth from the second to the fifth floor. Not even showing any interest to help me. Finally, I got a hold of the fifth floor manager, and after discussing with her my problem, I received very unsatisfactory answer. She told me that they sent all of the coats in the money to the wear-house, and she also said that it takes 72 hours for the computers to be dated. I almost believe it. I left her my information just in case the coats would be found. And I left the store. As I was leaving the store, I received a phone call from the fifth floor manager, (not even five minutes have passed since I have last talked to her), and she told me that the coats were sent out on Thursday, which was 5 days ago (120 hours ago). And there is no way that they could get a hold of the coats, for me. This was enough, for me. I do not like when people test my intelligence. I called the store manager, and I explained the situation and to make the long story short, the coats were found the next day in boxes ready to be shipped. And the following Thursday, finally I got the coat. In the end, it was not about the coat but the principles of how can Bloomingdale's can afford to treat their customers with such great disrespect and in today economical word to not care about additional sales. I had the worst experience here! The sales woman was very rude to me as I was purchasing a fossil watch. Sure, it's not the most expensive item, but they sell them! I was with my mother and she decided to buy it for me as a gift. She put it on her credit card. Less than a week later the watch just totally stopped working. I went back to ask for an exchange and they demanded a receipt. I didn't have one since my mother bought it as a gift and lives out of town. I explained that and the women there looked at me like I was complete trash and told me "too bad, without a receipt nothing we can do." So I went up to customer service to try and see what I could do. All I wanted was an exchange, and every other store I've been to that's sold a defective product is more than helpful, even without a receipt. Well customer service was also rude and again told me "too bad." I decided to go across the street to the Fossil store in Water Tower Place. The guy looked at it, tried to replace the battery and determined that it was a defective watch. I told him I didn't buy it there but he exchanged the watch for me anyway... no problem. I am not a huge fan of this store, but the terrible review is specifically for the shoe department. I spend a lot of money at Bloomingdale's. A lot. But every time I come here, I am treated poorly and forgotten about. In any other department, this is no big deal, but when I need to try on shoes, it basically prevents me from buying anything. There have been numerous occasions where I have requested to try on shoes - on the most recent occasion, a $350 pair of winter boots, and been forced to wait with no word as the shoe salesman helps other customers. The one time someone did actually help me was when I was looking for my wedding shoes. I explained that I wanted comfortable sparkly peep toe pumps. I tried on a pair of Badgely Mishkas which were a tiny bit too small in my regular size. I requested the size up, and he agreed that it might be worth it - until he realized that they were out of stock in the size up. Then he aggressively convinced me that the shoes would stretch and would be fine for my wedding day. He also refused to allow me to try on similar cheaper versions to see if they were more comfortable, basically saying that they were too ugly. Well, I bought the shoes, I tried to stretch them out by wearing them around my apartment, but despite all of my efforts, 3-4 hours into my wedding day, I wanted to cut off my feet. Terrible. They listened to my needs and quickly guided me to perfect items. Additionally, they exceeded my expectations by wrapping my items in cloth bags, sturdy boxes and ribbons so that I could present them as gifts. Their exceptional customer service and friendly dispositions makes me want to explore more of Bloomingdale's than just the jewelry counter when I need to buy gifts for special occasions! read more

HORRIBLE experience in the cosmetics department....Clinique, specifically. I was there on Saturday, 7/19/14 around 4:30-5 pm. I was never greeted by any employee and worst yet, when TWO male employees came over to the area, they both greeted a customer walking by the counter. Whereas, I was actively perusing the products. As I turned to leave (pretty annoyed by lack of customer service), the one male employee walked right past without any form of acknowledgement. I was hoping he would've initiated contact because I wanted to retort "nope, you don't get to get my commission today...next time, DO NOT ignore your customers for more than 5 minutes." I have never had any issues at Bloomingdales in the past, although I was wondering if the poor service might have been because I looked like a very casual shopper...jeans, tee shirt and flip flops (but come on....tourists are in and out of there all day and regardless, if we have money to spend, who cares?!) This experience DID put me off to this Bloomingdales and it very well could cost Clinique a 25 year customer.....since service was so deplorable, I ventured over to Saks where I was greeted warmly by every employee I encountered, two of whom were from Kiehl's. I have fallen in love with this skincare line... So in the words of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman "big mistake! Big! Huge!" The ladies were super helpful, knowledgable on product and had the flawless skin. Estee Lauder compared to other counters gives much more bang for your buck because of all the free samples and products they give you in-addition to your purchase. I left with a free pashmina scarf, full-size makeup remover cleanser, travel nail polish and night repair serum, nail file and a few more freebies. The products at Estee Lauder work very well and are worth the investment. I highly recommend stopping by the EL counter if you are shopping at Bloomingdales. read more

I stood in the MBMJ handbag section for a good 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged my existence. THREE sales associates passed by, looked at me, and kept walking. Hello, did they not see the money burning a hole through my pocket?! I started to wonder if the 20% F&F thing was worth being ignored and was about to walk over to Nordstrom! Beverly, the SA from the Coach department next door finally greeted me and said she would be with me in a moment. I didn't realize she was handling two to three departments. The layout is a bit confusing (nearest register is in the Coach dept), especially since there are SAs coming out of the store room there. I guess they just like to wander around and ignore people. When it was my turn, I received excellent customer service from Beverly. She was very friendly and helpful. It seems they are so short staffed and this poor lady is the only one actually helping people. Get your stuff together, Bloomingdales! I asked for a specific mascara and she took me to the counter where it was but tried to tell me that for me, she thought a lighter black would be good (why? I have pretty much black hair.) I tried it but said that I wanted to go with the one I had originally requested, which is when I found out her true reasoning. She pretended to look in the drawer and then said, "oh, it looks like we're all out of that one." Great. Why couldn't you just be up front? The folks in the shoe department can be a bit snooty at times, too. I recently went in looking for a black clutch and one of the ladies went back into the stockroom and dug up five different ones that were not on display for me to choose from. Sure, they were all $1k+ but a few were 40% off for their post-Thanksgiving sale and they were all beautiful. Score! They also have a fantastic lingerie department. One of the sales associates recently recommended that I try Hanro bras and I am ob-sessed. However dangerous it may be, Bloomingdale's is a weekly must for me. read more
