What ruins it for me are the obnoxious perfume pushers and ladies trying to make you up. I can't stand walking through that make-up floor! The managers in the men's department are the most incompetent people I've ever met. I returned a pair of pajamas that I purchased a week prior through our bloomingdales loyalist account. The woman couldn't find the purchase through the account, couldn't find the purchase using the card used and proceeded to tell me it had to be through another card even though I had the transaction on the card pulled up on my bank account showing it to her, she said I had to get a check sent to me in the mail I said okay as long as I get a check of my money back I'm fine with that. Bloomingdale is always a fun place to get lost in.. The sales people are not overly aggressive and will gives you the space you need to browse around without feeling hassled or being watched. Their selection and price are a bit overwhelming but interesting and always fun to look at. I like that their store is always clean and spacious. My only qualm about Bloomingdale is that their price online and at the store seems different when it comes to sales. But I guess that's minor because with cell phones, I can always double check before making any purchase. read more

The last time I shopped here I was on my honeymoon, which was a few years ago. When you walk in here you get pretty clear visual as to why these kind of stores are dying. People don't want to pay exorbitant prices to be in a huge shiny building with fancy displays. they also had this set up so it was hard to find our way in and out. I needed a pair of gloves because it was colder in NY that I was anticipating for a Spring trip but there was no way I was going to pay $130 for the one pair they were able to scrounge up. Target, Outlet Malls and even Walmart are doing this so much better now. These guys need to watch the news and make adjustments so they don't end up like their competitors. read more

I really like this Bloomingdale's but recently had been going to the Soho location because there are more stores that area that interest me. I went to the shoe salon to look for some boots and the sales associates were so helpful. The SA that I had picked out a ton of different styles for me to try on and didn't look the least bit bothered by helping me. Unfortunately other shoe stores seem to be bothered that I want to try on more than 2 pairs of shoes or just tell me that they everything I try on looks great even when I know that it doesn't. When I went I was able to use a loyalist rewards card and got $75 off my shoes that I had earned on a purchase earlier this year and was able to stack that with their promotion of $25 off of every $100. This doesn't work on all brands but you do earn rewards cards on those purchases and may use them for future purchases. If you shop here and don't have one, I encourage you to sign up for one - it's free (I wouldn't get their credit card though). read more

I have been coming to Bloomindale's for years; since I was a child. I even found an old receipt in my father's desk for the purchase of furniture for his then-new home. The year: 1963 (!). So, I want to like the store. One thing remains true, in my opinion: service by the employees who work on the floors is excellent. Really they are well trained and helpful, willing to go out of the way to help find or advise on what you may need. But I am giving Bloomingdale's two stars these days, and here is why: One of the features of the clothing store has always been their own in-house brand(s). Particularly high quality clothing that had some name like 'the Men's Store at Bloomingdales' or 'Metropolitan View' or 'Joseph and Lyman.' I've come to rely on it for a fair price point and quality that surpasses even most high-tier name brands -even within the store. I always buy my socks, undershirts and boxers from them. (But also: overcoats, dress shirts, pants, etc.) And today I went down to purchase some of these. Well, what did I learn?, that they seem to be phasing these out in favor of simply having name brands. At the high end, these are found in the many stalls leased to the brand luxury labels. But for the underwear, it is the same 'dreck' you can get anywhere: Calvin Klein, Polo, Jockey, etc. The salesman looked at me wistfully and said 'It must be nine months since we had an order of our own brand in.' He was unsure whether they were gone forever; for example, their fine quality undershirts of supima cotton. I am left to believe that they are gone. I remember when this happened to Lord & Taylor -they stopped their in-house labels, too. Perhaps it's costly to produce these items under your own labels, and they compete with other products for sale from the companies leasing space. But it is a shame this is surrendered and was the sign of a quality store that had it's own products; not just a bazaar of high-tier stalls. It seems to me to be a possible indicator of the future -following in the steps of Lord & Taylor (and B. Altman's, and Bonwit Teller). Macy's anyone? Or WeWork? read more

Terrible experience buying a gift certificate: I ordered $1000 gift certificate online for my brother. Got an email hours later that there was "a security problem" What security problem?" She couldn't tell me what it was because that would alert others to commit fraud. They told me to go to the store in person to buy the gift card. I told them that if I could go to the store I wouldn't have ordered it online. The lady said "I understand how you feel." Then I checked my credit card and they had already withdrawn $1000. I have been on with them now for an hour - twice the system hung up on me - and all for a gift certificate I didn't get. The lady from customer service kept saying, "I understand how you feel." Had lunch at 40 carrots yesterday. The editor was mean and aggressive when we explained to him how awful the iced coffee and regular coffee tasted. He belligerently offered an other coffee and aggressively grabbed it off the table. Further more it took him a good 25 minutes to even bring it to us. The tuna salad sandwich was not editable but Iwas actually afraid to tell the waiter. I literally took $40 and threw it away. I will not be returning!!! Due to COVID you need to wear mask in order to enter the store, hand sanitizers are all over the store so no excuse to clean and disinfect your hands. Inventory is a bit limited but staff help you and order items for home delivery if the store doesn't have it available. If you want to dine at Forty Carrots your temperature is checked and you wait to be seated 6 FT apart. 2020 Christmas shop is set and open.I love Forty Carrots's coffee froyo so I got my order to go. What I thought would be stress free was completely opposite. I placed an online order to pick up same day at the store. It is now taking 2 hours to confirm the order. I called to check the status and they told me they do not have the shoes in stock that I ordered. Why say SAME DAY pick up if I cannot get them SAME DAY! I ordered a bag with it and they told me that it is in stock and can pick up once the order is processed. I called the billing and was told that my card was already processed. I then call the store back and was told it will take about 2-4 hours till I can pick the items up. It has now been 4 hours since I place the order and still no word back. This was the first and last time ordering online with Bloomingdale's. I even got a loyalty card from them which told me I would get a 10% coupon with my first purchase. I never received the email or text from it. I really expected them to be a great and easy company to work with but I was wrong. read more

This review is for Laurie at Gucci accessories on the 1st floor. I've never received (or lack thereof) service from any store as I did this one. I stood by the wallet counter for 20 mns waiting for help. Some older woman walked in and Laurie ran up to her asking her if she needed help. I am disgusted. I told her I've been waiting for her and she proceeded to tell me I have to wait and she's helping that woman. I had just spent $1000 on Gucci shoes upstairs. She was social class profiling, and age profiling. I wonder what would've happened if I was black. She needs to be fired. I assure you, you are being judged here - what you wear matters, how you talk matters, how rich you LOOK matters - on my first visit here I was dressed average and treated poorly - on this visit I was dressed in Boss Black and was treated quite nicely. Appropriate, no. Understandable, I guess - there are a lot of friggin tourists. Picked up a pair of fantastic To Boot New York hand stitched wingtips for 66% off at the holiday sale and the clerk couldn't have been more helpful, professional, or excellent. Bloomingdale's on 3rd Ave is the mothership, it is their Macy's Herald Square. It is huge, it has a massive selection, and on weekends, it can be a nut house. They have several cafes and restaurants in addition to the shopping. Although, most of the store is women's stuff, they have a pretty good men's department, on part of the first floor, the entire lower level and part of a sub-basement. If you can't find what you are looking for at your local suburban Bloomie's, come to this store, they will probably have it. I find most of their brands to be nothing special (Ralph Lauren, Burberry, Hugo Boss, Canali, etc.). However, they are one of the only stores anywhere that carries Turnbull & Asser. I am a big fan of T&A shirts and ties. The staff here is ok, a mixed bag. Some staff members could really care less while others are excellent. I went in to buy a belt as they had a good selection from the brand I wanted. The salesperson was helpful, but accidentally charged me for the wrong belt - $80 dollars more. I asked about it, but he insisted the price was correct. I doubt there were any sinister intentions, he just wasn't paying attention. I went home and checked online and I was right about the price. I had to go back to the store and do an exchange to be charged the right amount. Annoying. read more

1* for customer service, sorry edit that, there is ZERO service! In there yesterday with my wife for over one hour. We were not acknowledged even once! I am astounded at a store like Bloomingdales does not know about their lackluster staff. Monday afternoon at 3 pm and store relatively empty, why would you not smile or greet customers or when they are touching/looking at merchandise ask if they need assistance? I have been in this industry for over 20 years and I am a believer in customer service at every level. We were on 4 different floors and the same vibe on each one. Looking at handbags on ground floor no one batted an eyelid when we picked up to look. Designer collection floor sales associates just standing around looking thoroughly bored out of their minds! Even saw 3 of the sales associates while we were there visibly yawning and 2 chewing gum like cows chewing their cuds! We were also in both shoe departments designer and contemporary and not even a nod so we knew we existed! I wouldn't mind, but we were both well dressed and looking to possibly make a purchase. Also on the contemporary women's clothing floor we were also invisible. We did not make it to the men's as I was already amazed at the sub par vibe we were Getting. Sorry for intruding on you Bloomingdales! If I was rating the clothing and shoes I would give 4 stars as the selection is really good and comprehensive. Lovely merchandise deserves capable staff. They are lucky to be employed and should take more pride in their positions and give SOME service. Will not be back to 59th st location. read more

I think this is why I shop online. Although I pass Bloomingdale's at least 3 times a week, I hardly ever venture inside. Now that their renovation is complete, the floors look like a mini mall, something akin to malls in Korea or Japan, with little stores next to each other. The place is huge, so sometimes it's hard to navigate that the shoe section is just past those 18 mini stores. This particular day I went to the intimate apparel section, looking for bras. As several employees passed by me (note: there were way more employees than customers) I kept shopping. I knew just what I wanted, but couldn't find my size. I must say that even though it's smaller, Lord and Taylor's lingerie section is much better about sizes, with a better selection. Anyway, I kept searching for bras until someone finally asked if I needed help. We chatted about what I was looking for and she put me in a room. I must say Chanel (that's her name) was really helpful. She brought me bras that I might like in my size, but unfortunately I owned most of them already! They didn't have the bras I wanted in stock, so in the end I walked out empty handed. I tried to drown my sorrows in the shoe section downstairs, but was a little disappointed. It was a little crowded, with salespeople measuring you up to see if you might buy anything. I think now I remember why I shop online (which I did, because they had my size and everything was on sale). read more

We chose Bloomies as our destination for Black Friday because we were looking for a black formal gown and it just seemed like this was a good choice to find one on Black Friday...and find one we did! The Size Zero collegiate found her dress in less than thirty minutes with the help of a remarkable saleslady named Stacy. We purchased and were told if we took our receipt downstairs, for Black Friday we would receive a $30 gift card for every $100 we spent. So we collected $90, and I went off to perfumes. We then collected $60 and British Boyfriend found himself a scarf. We opted to break the cycle, and pushed our way outdoors where we were free! Free, and loaded with bags full of DEALS! I have mixed reviews of Bloomingdale's at 59th St. in New York. I registered there for my wedding and received excellent service from the Registry Department. I felt like they took their time to walk me around the department on multiple occasions and are very helpful with returns, exchanges and answering questions. However, on a few other occasions when I have been in the store shopping, it is SO difficult to find someone to help you. I was there this past Sunday and one of the sales people was very rude to a woman who was just trying to find someone to help her purchase something. I found my experiences at both the Soho and midtown Bloomingdale's to be excellent. Great selection, and super attentive staff. In fact, there is such a huge selection, I was overwhelmed. Personal shopper, Kristin B, was especially helpful. The jeans and tops I was picking out just weren't flattering and, after showing her some Pinterest images of the look I was going for, she brought me the pieces I needed - and I love them! Preview day for a big sale and the hubby was buying a ton of housewares (he is the chef of the family) and a sales person took pity on him - he had our 3 year old with him. Bloomingdales is crowded. It's overwhelming. Truly. If you know what you want, go directly to that department. Don't delay and don't dawdle. You'll regret it later. (Ok, this is coming from someone who tends to hate to shop.) Anyway, at the same time, every salesperson we worked with was very helpful. We were guided to the microwave section -- they only sell one microwave model -- and quickly paid in the sheets department. No matter how many times I visit this store I always find the layout confusing. They do have a solid, broad selection of classics and on-trend items, so that's great. I get mailers and emails about sales and such but there are always so many small print exclusions to those sales that every time I've tried to take advantage of those events the item I'm trying to purchase is inevitably excluded so that I don't even bother with those sales anymore. I'm a mostly independent shopper and seldom feel the need to request help or interact with the sales staff, so I can't really speak to others customer service issues, but if you know what you want/are looking for, it's a solid option. read more

This is Bloomingdales' #1 store in the chain; it is their founding, landmark store, and the Deco façade on Lexington avenue is well-known. What many people don't realize is it's a complex of attached buildings; the original store was a few attached townhouses on East 60th street which still bear the legend "Bloomingdale Brothers." [ETA: Actually, the very first, original store was on East 56th street.] This store housed the first "sky carriage" [elevator] in the city. Bloomingdale Brothers, incidentally, was originally a 19th-century store specializing in hoop skirts; when hoop skirts fell out of fashion, they needed to diversify or die. At that time, the Upper East Side was a working-class neighborhood; Park Avenue was called Fourth Avenue and a coal-powered train ran up it above ground. When the train was brought underground, Fourth Avenue became Park Avenue--with a real park between the lanes--and the rest is history. Some of their stuff is pricey and exclusive, some is affordable and some of it is just crappy department-store $#!t, because several years ago they were acquired by Federated Department Stores; now they're actually owned by Macy*s, Inc.--who naturally don't want to change the name to Macy*s #2. (Their slogan would end up being something like, "There's no other store like it...except the other one.") It's probably a matter of time before Wal*Mart acquires Macy*s. One of the neater aspects of Bloomingdale's is that you can bring your dog in; when I'm walking dogs in the neighborhood--or if I'm taking my dog to one of the animal hospitals within a few-block radius--I like to take advantage of that. Have I ever bought anything at Bloomie's? Of course--I used to drag my mother here in the 70s when we came into New York so I could see a diet doctor on East 64th street. My mother preferred the budget-priced Alexander's on 58th street--which has been since demolished and replaced by Bloomberg News headquarters--but I always wanted to go to Bloomingdale's; at the time, they hadn't become a "mall store" yet, so it had real cachet to go back to school the next day wearing a sweater I had gotten at Bloomie's. read more

It took me awhile to realize the "small/medium/large brown bags" I saw practically every day on the subway were from Bloomies, a place I had never visited until after I moved to NY. The department store is almost a work of art, it's the kind of shopping people see in the movies (a la Pretty Woman) but with more sophistication and attention to detail in making the brand out of the garment, rather than the other way around. Only the most fashion conscious or disposable income hustlers tend to shop here, as do the fashionista / metrosexual wannabes, who instead of shopping, spend their time attempting to learn styles / brands without actually wearing them. It's the kind of window shopping that reminds each and every once of us a promotion in the workplace sounds like a great thing. But Bloomies represents another end of the shopping spectrum, just as there is a need for budget / thrift shopping, also merited is the need for "the good stuff." High end shopping has never been so well put together, with collections that are so scintillatingly presented, that even associates who work in the store are (presumably) at the top of their game. Most of the staff of whom I've encountered have better manners and are more efficient than any of the folks I've seen at Sak's or Barney's or even Macy's. It may be apples vs oranges, but it's also quite true. My favorite time to be here is like any other store - huge sales. Black Friday tends to have a good selection of marked down material and none of this stuff is "clearance" worthy either. In comparison to other Bloomies around the nation, the New York store has by far the best selection. read more

It's a HUGE location. Browsed here with a friend recently. It's clean & the store staff is definitely a presence. The location itself is also nice and not the least bit boring; I also like that they had seating right near the escalator so I could take a phone call without having to stand around in an aisle or wander around. However, my big gripe is that things here cost too damn much. My friend was browsing for items and even after sale prices on things, stuff was too much money. If you don't have money to throw away or have an ounce of frugality in you, try a discount website for designer items, a consignment shop, sample sales, ANYTHING but paying full price here. The Magnolia Bakery here might be worth a stop but otherwise save your money. read more
