I've been to other locations of Blu Jam over the years and always loved it, but this recent visit (which was also my first visit to the Atwater location) was lackluster at best. You walk in, get seated, order off a QR code or at the register, someone brings you your food. Sangria - 4 stars. Best item at this spot, and a great deal at $5 when we went for Saturday brunch. Eggs Florentine - 3 stars. The English muffin was soggy, and overall this wasn't that great. The side salad was nice and fresh though. Crunchy French Toast - 3 stars. This is the reason that we came here, this dish used to always be so delicious. It wasn't crisp at all, in fact I'd say it was a bit soggy and lacked flavor. Additionally, we had to ask for syrup for it. Service fail right there. Breakfast Pasta - 4 stars. This was pretty good after we adjusted it with seasoning. The ambiance is very casual, similar to a diner. What did bother me is that a server dropped a shot glass which shattered everywhere and didn't sweep it up. After about 5 minutes I got up, picked up the two largest shards of glass and handed it to a server so no one got injured, only to find more glass right by my table when I was walking back. It was at that point that someone grabbed a broom to remove the rest of the freshly broken glass. This is a HUGE fail for me, someone could have been injured. I've been on a chilaquiles kick, so when I saw it on the menu for brunch, I was like, yes + margarita! Sadly they were out of tequila, so I subbed a Tropical Mimosa, which was okay. Honestly I really liked this chilaquiles - it was super saucy and the crema was great and just salty enough. It came with chicken tinga, which was perfect. I do prefer a saucy chilaquiles which means the chips get soggier faster, but I'm okay with that because I never finish all the chips anyway. The service was okay - they were out of a handful of things. they forgot my friend's order and then brought the wrong coffee - so it definitely felt like not the A-game, but the food was good and the location is great, so I'll probably come back. read more

This location is horrible! The French toast was nothing like it is in the Sherman Oaks location. It was very dry, not crunchy and tastes old. Even the vanilla bean sauce was off. Everything came out cold. Even my kids noticed and complained how the potatoes were cold. Place is dirty not clean. Really liked this place for a quick, yummy brunch. Love that you can just scab the QR code on the table and get to ordering. No fuss, and the food came out pretty quick. I tried the Burgundy omelette which came with spinach mushrooms goat cheese sundried tomatoes and more! We sat down where we liked and of course I checked Yelp for reviews and recommendations prior to ordering via QR code. It was easy ordering since it was brunch and we'd split the check anyway. I have gone to the Encino/Tarzana location before. I do remember ordering the same chicken sandwich but this time it was shredded chicken bs an entire piece. They brought out each of our food separately so by the time one of us would eat something, the other persons would come out. Love it! We were a group of 3 ( 2 Adults, and 1 child) for a Saturday morning brunch. There were a lot of people inside and a few outside and decided to enjoy the fresh air outside. What we did: Check in for the join list, either do it here on Yelp or their tablet in front. Then, we scanned their menu, the server told us to either order online then send it to our table or go up front to order which she said would be faster. Despite being busy, the restaurant had both outdoor and indoor seating available with no wait. Was surprise to see a Blu Jam opened up in my childhood neighborhood and relived I no longer needed to fight the traffic on the 101 to go the Valley location. I don't know if it was because it was delivered but the food was just ho hum. To me it was lacking in flavor and that comfort feeling you get when having a wholesome breakfast. The sandwich was just plain, I've had better tasting elsewhere, the potatoes however where not soggy and had a nice crispy on the outside. I wasn't able to enjoy the iced coffee even tho it was made with oak milk for my dairy restrictions, it was actually to strong, the kind of hurt my stomach strong. That was extremely disappointing for this coffee whore. A good note my picky eater son enjoyed the French toast I definitely considered that a win. Food is very bland. We ordered the chilaquiles and the huevos rancheros and it was the most boring dishes. The huevos rancheros had cold day old pico de gallo, with warm over cooked eggs, cold cheddar cheese, and cold refrigerated avocado, over warm beans and maybe 4 cups of warm potatoes to try and compensate for the plate. Something about taking a bite that has really cold and warm ingredients is awful. The chilaquiles didn't have any chile.... Part of the main dish. The salsa on the chilaquiles was really watery almost like a chicken soup. The chilaquiles didn't have a good amount of chicken which was good.
