If you're just looking for a coffee to-go, you can also order at the counter like you would at any other coffee shop. The food was really enjoyable. they have small, crispy potatoes and really fresh avocado along with fluffy eggs and a nice presentation. The French toast was delicious, but they ran out of syrup, which was disappointing. The restaurant also seemed understaffed. On top of that, I noticed a cook handling food with bare hands. It's also great to share since its 8 pieces with 2 of the vanilla bean sauce, which I felt was more bland than I remember. Compared to the other Blu Jam cafes I've visited, this location has a more self sufficient setup as you can either order ahead at the counter or via their mobile site. Your order of then delivered by a courteous server when it's ready. I particularly like their self service shelf in the corner. Grab all the napkins, utensils, sauce containers, take-out boxes, crayons, etc. that you need without having to wait for a busy server. There is a series of tables along their outside wall for outdoor seating as well as a spacious indoor dining room. 4/5 - For drinks, we went for their Strawberry Mint Lemonade ($5.50). It's a refreshing combination of sweet strawberries, cool mint, and slightly citrusy and tart lemonade. *Don't forget, you can get complimentary BJC Ginger Shot for your entire party with a Yelp check-in. This shot will definitely cleanse and warm your body and palate with a potent combination of ginger, cayenne pepper, and lemon juice. I liked that it was crispy (corn flakes crust) and not soggy. But I didn't think it had a lot of great flavor, nor did the sauce that came with it. Delicious spot in Atwater Village! (Free) Parking available in rear. However during farmers market sundays it may be tougher to find spots and park in the neighborhoods. They have Yelp check in but you can also just check how busy with the staff too. We came before the rush and did the mobile check in but it turned out it wasn't that busy yet. You can order at the counter and pay, or order via QR at your table. It does require some sort of login, even for guest, which sucks. I just want to pay and don't need to give extra info. The servers really pushed for the crunchy French toast. They were actually good! (Though we did see another patron just left their entire plate of crunchy French toast behind; so wasteful). It came with vanilla sauce. We also wanted chilaquiles to have a savory option. You can customize a little like adding extra sauce on the side or other sides but we went with the standard. It took a little longer than expected (we were hungry!) but we did notice several tables ahead of us didn't have their meals yet. No rush really just the expectation of counter/QR order means a step in the fulfillment process is removed and theoretically should reduce transaction times. Food came out looking great and tasted great! Crunchy French toast was as advertised with berries and glaze sauce on the side. Chilaquiles had the pico on the side with chicken tingas on one side of the plate and sunny side eggs on top of the chips. Only thing I didn't like was it seemed the chips were more soggy probably from the chicken juices. Ended up eating chilaquiles with knife and fork instead of hands like nachos. We have cutlery and lemon/mint water at the table. We can see self service stations to get more cutlery, to go boxes and ramekins. I tried adding salsa or ketchup and nothing helped the bland food. Second red flag was that we had to order and PAY for our order BEFORE we got the food. It felt like a scam. The waitress didn't check in with us. Just gave us the rundown on how to order and left us water and napkins. Spent over $100 for awful food that my party of 5 and I didn't finish or enjoy. We actually left and decided to make food at home. I've been to other locations where the food is actually flavorful and worth the cost. After this experience, I'm never going to any location again. This location ruined the experience for my party and I. Edit - The hard boiled eggs on my Benedict was my fault as I had accidentally ordered it as such. You have to get their signature crispy French toast!!! It is served with some sort of vanilla custard as the sauce and not with maple syrup which is different but it works. Crispy and crunchy on the outside because of the corn flakes and moist and fluffy on the outside. I loved every bite. Honestly the portion serves like four to six people. I also got my favorite- the burgundy omelette. It's a veggie option and not vegan as it comes with goat cheese but let me tell you the sun dried tomatoes make the dish!!! It comes with three eggs, spinach, sun dried tomatoes, mushrooms, tarragon and chives apart from the goat cheese. I do wish the goat cheese was more than a teaspoon worth but its still good without goat cheese in every bite. Eggy and healthy in every bite. Love that it comes with grilled seasoned potatoes and sourdough toast. The potatoes are the best because they're chopped into the smallest cubes ever. I'm sad that this location does not serve their guava mimosas like the downtown location but hopefully they get their liquor license soon. I'm glad I ordered the Spicy Vegan Tex Mex Tofu Hash because I liked how the combination of beans, tofu, scrambled egg, tomatoes, and potatoes came to produce such a savory dish. I truly enjoyed it! What made it special was the iced vanilla latte for how my coffee was strong based on my request (additional 0.95) for an extra espresso shot. Enjoyed brunch here a few weeks ago with some friends! The atmosphere was very cozy and inviting and allowed us to catch up comfortably. The food was excellent in terms of quality and selection. We had a lovely brunch here today at Blu Jam Cafe. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We went during the week at noonish and it was really easy to just sit right down. I hear that weekend brunch is very popular here so allow for extra time. When you sit down your server will bring you a signature Blue Jam orange ginger juice shot. I had the smoked salmon eggs Benedict. It features two expertly poached eggs over smoked salmon on a bed of fresh spinach. It is served on an English muffin with hollandaise sauce. We also had the crispy french toast which was also outstanding and served with a tasty sweet creme sauce on the side. On the side of the eggs came the potatoes. Not just any ordinary hash browns or home fries. Oh no my friends... these were a generous helping of delicious little cubes of double xtra crispy potato goodness. I would come here and just eat these potatoes. They are that good. Spend your carbs on them its so worth it. Now while the eggs Benedict are great... if you don't order the potatoes with them then you are doing your immortal soul an injustice and will likely have some explaining to do on judgement day. So went on Saturday morning and it's self seating. It's completely different from other location. On the table there QR code you can scan and order online. They don't bring you extra plate or utensil, you Grabe everything yourself. Even water they didn't serve us, I have to ask for it. We ordered thru QR code I think that's why no one gave us anything, except they delivered our food on our table. I love the food. The breakfast pasta macaroni is my husband and I favorite. The French toast is very crispy, how I like it. Chilaquiles was good too, prefer to have more of the chips crispy. If you're first time here highly suggest to get the French toast which is what they're known for. Also, get the breakfast pasta and chilaquiles. Quesadillas is very heavy and I really enjoyed it. I decided to make a reservation, but then i waited almost another hour on top of my initial time. The app gave me an opening of 1015am and this was reflected at around 930am. I didn't start heading out until I noticed 4 parties ahead of me. When I arrived, it was still stuck at 4 even though there were a slew of open tables, however, they were shortstaffed. We ordered the french toast sticks I believe and they were brought out cold. We ordered an English breakfast tea and the water was lukewarm at best. I then ordered a scramble which I believe comes with a salad, so that was delicious. I opted to not order an OJ because it was $6 per small glass, so I drank water instead. Finally made it here for a weekday lunch after walking out of yoga for months wondering if it's worth crossing the street. If you've read any of my reviews, you would know that I rarely write about a place after one visit. Generally, it's the cumulation of many in all fairness to the food establishment. Ordered the breakfast burger medium rare. The burger was cooked perfectly, although not a high quality beef nor ground in-house. At least I hope not. If so, it's a miss. More importantly, I felt like I was eating food that was made yesterday. Or at least, much earlier in the day. Thinking breakfast. The hamburger bun was borderline stale. The bacon, extremely dry and tasteless. The crisp lettuce and sunny side up egg, however, are what salvaged this first time experience. Although the yolk dropped right onto the plate. TIP: Please replace the sliced grape tomatoes with a porterhouse or beef steak tomato. As is, this burger is stacked like a house of cards. Virtually impossible to eat without it collapsing. If that's your intention, call it the morning sickness burger I.e all over the place. Aside from the above, why am I posting? 1. The ordering system is confusing. 2. I did not appreciate showing up at noon and walking into a place with only 12 people dining and over half the tables full of dirty dishes. It's as if someone screamed ROACH and there was a mass exodus. 3. At some point, my second server started bussing tables. Great. But why is it necessary for servers to slam dishes into a tub? It's jarring. I'm posting all of this because there are super simple fixes available. 1. Par-cook the bacon for the lunch crowd. Finish it with the burger so it's juicy and fresh. 2. Consider building this burger bottom up: egg, burger, lettuce, tomato. Will make all the difference in the world. 3. Adjust scheduling or assign someone specifically to bussing during peak times. 4. Make a decision about ordering. Is it paper menu, QR code, on-line or at the register. Your inability to commit is causing customer frustration. The last thing anyone wants to deal with on a lunch break. IMPORTANT The person who waited on me made every effort to clarify many things, primarily how to order. While I appreciated the road map, I'm thinking that's a lot of misspent time if he does that for every customer. That time would have better spent on dictating a clear and decisive way to order via the appropriate way finding and signage, finding a supplier to deliver fresh baked buns daily and training the staff on how to gently place dirty dishes in a tub immediately after the customers leave. This negligence is a sign of mismanagement. Will I be back? Likely. Will I RUSH back?Not sure. What I do know is you can't judge a book by a burger. Especially a non-burger joint. While this review may or may not assist anyone in deciding whether or not to go here, I hope it sends a message to the team behind the counter. There is tremendous potential here and I would hate to see it squandered. Why? Because I love food. And I love the people who bring it to life. And I love this neighborhood despite living in Glendale. LA is full of incredibly gifted culinary wizards and supportive service staff. I hope anyone who reads this knows how deeply challenging it is to survive in the food industry. The question is... will this place be a part of LA's legacy? Today? We were a party of six, arrived at 9:30AM on a saturday morning, and luckily we were able to be seated immediately. Good spot for light breakfast meals. Their crunchy toast is good for sharing for a party of 3-4 people. Would definitely come back! read more
