Colorado Blvd. and Eagle Rock in general has an embarrassment of great places to eat, grab a cup of coffee, or just hang out. Four Cafe is just one of the latest examples of a place that I've often overlooked, but am now a believer. I searched Yelp for a local recommendation for a hearty salad, and Four Cafe's Warm Fall Salad jumped off the page for me. The tasty proteins, with the steak in particular, made the salad featuring seasonal veggies, goat cheese, and a tasty vinaigrette even more enticing! Service was very friendly and the dining area was clean and organized. Serving sizes are very generous and I highly recommend this place if you are looking for something healthy and maybe something hearty as well! Now that it's Fall, do not miss out on the Warm Fall Salad. I was told that menus rotate every season, so try it while you can! The salad with the steak as an addition cost about $21 before tax. Next time, I may opt for their lunch special which includes a half sandwich and soup for $15! read more

This review is for Four Cafe catering whom we hired for our wedding- Meridith, chef Michelle, and Richard were quick to respond and super helpful in getting our menu to meet our needs before the event. During the event service from staff was seamless and we've received dozens of compliments on the food! Guests have even asked us for recipes. The polenta bites and brie truffle phyllo cups were a favorite at cocktail hour and people raved about the steak with chimichurri, chicken (with an amazing salad on top), the summer greens salad, and mac and cheese with toppings bar at the dinner buffet. We had met Michelle and Meridith at an open house, and trusted we didn't need a tasting- a bit of a risk, but their samples were our favorite, and they really delivered! Eagle Rock itself is pretty chill and quiet. In my opinion, Four Cafe captures this essence well. It's never too busy and there's seating outdoor and indoors. I got the grilled salmon plate but in my opinion the star of the show here was the grilled zucchini. The picked onions were a refreshing bite and paired well with the salmon. This is my first visit to this establishment. Didn't really know what to expect. When you get greeted as you entered it's a for sure good sign. Ordered a BBQ Chickpea Salad with Chicken and a bowl of Spiced Red Lentil Soup. On a cold day like today it was a perfect combo. Let's just say I really enjoyed both and sent me off with a smile. Just ordered an inedible "Waldorf" salad. 1. Don't call something a Waldorf salad if it absolutely bears no resemblance to a Waldorf salad. 2. The vinaigrette was bitter and had kind of a lavender or rose floral flavor. Truly awful. The salad was 95% lettuce; it had some walnut fragments. And some not good tiny slivers of Apple. I had about four bites. It's a shame, because this place used to be good. If you do find yourself here, for goodness sake do not get the "Waldorf salad." read more

Let's start with the ambiance it's very chill and homey. I like the layout and how spacious it is. As for service it's simple you order at the counter you get your number and they serve you the food. The wait time is average. As for food it is very good. My ratings: *Tortilla Soup - 8/10 - sometimes a little too spicy but it's great. *The Short Rib Grilled Cheese Sandwich - 9/10 - very delicious was very surprised first bite in your like wow. *The Cubano Sandwich - 6/10 - not bad not great. Meat was a bit dry. It's definitely a skip for me. *The Mexican Chocolate Cookie - 9/10 very tasty, and I love the crunch. I order almost every time. *Brown Sugar Pop Tart - 8/10 - it's very fresh, very heavy but definitely worth it to try at least one time. Looking for salad and this what popped up in Eagle Rock area. Salad itself is $13 and if you add protein additional $4-6. Salad is a lot and I added salmon. Salmon was grilled but it taste burnt and under seasoned. However I still enjoyed it. Also, tried the chicken sandwich it was really good. I was disappointed to find that, while you can build your own salads, there's no option to build your own bowls. None of the bowls as advertised would have worked with my allergies, so I opted for the more indulgent short rib grilled cheese with side salad. The side salad was nice, crisp with a lovely sweet dressing, maybe poppyseed? The short rib, however, was peppered so heavily that my mouth and tongue were completely burning. The meat seemed to be cooked well, but I couldn't even taste it over the overwhelming black pepper. I could only finish half of the sandwich and my stomach rebelled horribly about half an hour after eating. I wanted to like this place, but the seasoning was much much too aggressive. My lunch partner had the cauliflower sando and said her sandwich was uncomfortably aggressively seasoned as well. The word of the day here is balance, which Four Cafe seemed not to understand. I've been here twice and it was delicious both times. You can get something healthy or not so healthy (ie brisket with Mac and cheese) but the bowls are really the best thing here. My husband got the portabello Bahn Mi sandwich and I got the portabello bowl. The sandwich was a crispy baguette with a little mushroom and carrots and he was still hungry afterwards. The filling was the same as what was in my bowl but the bowl had a lot more volume . It also had marinated spinach, brown rice, and cabbage with a side or siracha mayo. It tasted so fresh, light and healthy. Super flavorful. Highly recommend this place but avoid the sandwiches. read more

When Four Cafe is good, it's outstanding. However consistency and quality control need much improvement- and this is speaking as someone who orders from them regularly via doordash for years so finally posting about it. I'm not too concerned that sometimes the soup is thin or sometimes it's thick. But I do care when lettuce that seems past its prime isn't weeded out of the mix. For example the chopped kale salad can be amazing 2x in a row, but then the next time ordering tons of wilted yellow & brown leaves enter the mix... That shouldn't happen. If they could train their kitchen to really pay attention to QC, they would be unstoppable. Separately, Four cafe has a seasonally changing menu, but it seems crazy not to have the Caesar as a year round option-- or at least a plain romaine or little gem base option year round. (The rest of the year all romaine is mixed w/ arugula and there's no option to remove it as the bases are pre-made. I love arugula but not with romaine, and many people, like my husband, don't like arugula at all). Spring at least has a plain little gem base option! It's always seemed a bit short sighted to assume everyone loves spicier or more bitter lettuces like arugula or mixed greens- we just stop ordering during certain seasons. I have passed this place numerous times in the 3 years I've lived in area but tried it for the first time a month ago. The smash burger was perfect and really the best I have ever had. Returned today and had the Mahi Mahi rice bowl: can't eat beans or cabbage and GM offered to substitute sautéed kale and double brown rice. I ate the whole thing! Food was straight up basura. Jerk chicken had absolutely NOTHING to do with what jerk chicken is supposed to be other than coincidentally being chicken. It was shredded like pulled pork and covered in a sickly sweet sauce with no spice at all. All dead (and even live) jamaicans are rolling in their graves at the mere existence of this trash they call jerk chicken. Bonus, the black beans had zero spice or flavor to them and likewise the grilled vegetable they served with it. That said, the fried plantain was ok. Additionally, the server was rude af from the get go taking our order. When I finally mentioned something about the food and asked for a refund after literally taking 2 bites they "graciously" refunded 50% of the bill and threw out the food. Everything about this experience was terrible save for the plantains, the salted chocolate chip cookie, and the company I was with. Decided to meet up with some friends for lunch on a trip to the LA area, and found this vegan friendly spot in Glendale not far from my hotel. We placed our orders and then sat outside. They brought out our drinks and quickly followed that with our meals. I had the vegan burrito bowl and the jackfruit crab cake appetizer. The food was delicious and the portions were a healthy size. My friends had the cheeseburger, the pea soup, Brussels sprouts and the tempeh reuben, and they really enjoyed their food as well. The servers were even gracious to provide sliced apples for my friends' dog. We had a nice long visit and never felt pressured to clear out. I hate to leave this review, especially since I already voiced it to staff before I left and said I didn't want to, but upon coming home, here goes. We ordered kids Mac and cheese for my 4 yr old and chili for me. When the Mac and cheese was brought out we were told the bowl was hot (it was on another plate) but it wasn't just hot-it was scalding. I had to grab a few napkins to serve it to my kid on the plate. He accidentally touched it and said his hand was burning and cried, so I had him hold a cup of ice I had and we tried to finish the meal. The Mac was super dry inside, clearly over-microwaved. The cornbread with the chili was cold (fine, whatever) but super super dry. Once we left and got in the car my kid kept crying saying his hand hurt from the hot bowl (he was no longer holding the ice cup). I'm confused as to why they would serve the kids food in a bowl so hot, not even the adult can handle it, and, I get it's for a kid but it should still be good and not so dried out it comes out without sauce and in little dried bits. In all honestly, I've tried to like this place for the 9 years I've lived in Eagle Rock but today has to be the last time I come.
