Blu changes the menu so many times I can't keep up. Just when I fall in love with a couple of menu items... poof they are gone. The management is less than desirable. Attitude and personal reminds me bread minus the yeast. I requested 3 times information on hosting a small gathering of 8, leaving my phone number and I have never heard a response. I live across the street and go in often. The espresso martini was made to perfection with Christopher and now, it's blah, basic. had very high hopes for this place, maybe that's why i was disappointed. We ordered the brussels sprouts, margarita pizza and the seafood penne. We might of messed up as well, since we asked for everything to come out at the same time, but i figured they would coordinate the timing of everything to be ready at the same time, my mistake. the brussels sprouts were tasty, but burnt and some were more salty then others. Hidden little gem in the Bella Bottega shopping center. The menu options are limited but most are very tasty. We started with the fried calamari (2 out of 5 stars), grilled octopus (3 out of 5 stars), pana rustica (4 out of 5 stars). A pretty nice place! Been a here a few times-- an inviting ambience and the customer service is always very pleasant. Not your typical Italian food. For appetizers, the grilled octopus is awesome and was a family fav. Perfectly cooked and flavorful with a unique twist of purple potatoes. I think this appetizer is the most worth the price, especially for sharing. The cauliflower is never a miss as well-- light, fluffy, and crispy beer batter accompanied by an aioli. Calamari is also good-- the sauce is delicious, but the portion is pretty small. The Curugiones stuffed braised beef dumplings are great-- although the portions may seem relatively small, the brown butter sauce and filling is enough to sate my appetite, especially after a couple of appetizers. The sauce is on the sweeter side, but it compliments the flavor of the beef well. The special for this night was seared scallops with vegetables and a delightful turnip purée. Perfectly cooked scallops The purée had a sort of pumpkin-y sweet potato (?) flavor, which I enjoyed, especially for the autumn season. I remember in the past that there was once a seared duck on a bed of lemon risotto and some sort of currant berry sauce with oranges. I literally DREAM of this dish. I hope they bring it back!! Came here for dessert after dinner, the service is really nice and I enjoyed their Torta Caprese Bianca lemon cake that comes with a bit of lemon gelato. The cake is flourless and divine! With a cup of tea it was amazing. My husband had the affogato and said it was lovely although pretty pricey. The interior is nicely decorated but the tables are positioned tightly and so close that we inadvertently heard our neighbors' private conversations. The upstairs is reserved for private dining so might be a good option for a corporate event or birthday. We basically ordered the whole happy hour menu and nothing I would want to come back for. Meatballs eh okay, pasta had no flavor and the shape was not very appetizing reminded me of maggots or something. Salad was bland and too lightly dressed. Pork belly was dry and need something acidic? The mustard was a weird flavor profile for the pork belly. Calamari was okay but had a good sauce. Drinks were great, sat at the bar... bartender was okay personality didn't seem too interested in describing dishes when we asked about them. There are things that are really great about Blu and I wish there were 1/2 stars but at some point you have to decide go up or go down. The service was solid - did have to ask for refills on ice tea - otherwise five stars The portion sizes were lacking - when our Calimari arrived it was about half of what I expected - literally paid more than $1 per piece. Similarly with our entrees - the prawn linguini and chicken caprese - the amount of noodles was below average. It would seem that should never be the case - it is noodles after all. The taste of both entrees did not stand out. The star of the meal was the extra side we ordered - the Brussels sprouts and the accoutrements were addicting. Love the interiors of the place, a quiet and elegant place with friendly service. We had the tagliatelle and salmone. However, they cooked the pork perfectly - it was SO tender! The wine in the Marsala was a little stronger than I would have liked, but it complemented the pork well. We got the Zuppa Del Giorno (some type of beef stew soup?) with Malloreddus Bolognese and Tiramisu and Gamberi Torta Risotto with Chicken Parmesean and Panna Cotta. I thought the soup was just okay, a bit salty, but the risotto, bolognese and chicken parm are delicious. Dessert was pretty good too, but a bit too sweet for me. Blu Sardinia lured me and my friends in with a BOGO Prime card deal late one Friday night after work. It's more of an upscale restaurant and in my sweats, I definitely felt underdressed (hadn't come prepared). The server told us the dining area was full but we could sit at the bar. The atmosphere is classy and pleasing; we could see an upstairs area that was marvelously decorated. In our humble bar seats, we looked over the menu waiting for the last friend to arrive while the server brought complimentary bread. No complaints about the soft bread. It pairs well with the olive oil and I liked the texture. The flatbread didn't appeal much to me personally and I found it was annoyingly placed on top of the soft bread, making it awkward every time we wanted to reach for the soft bread underneath. We ordered some calamari as an appetizer for the table, which also tasted okay. I liked the dipping sauce a lot but the breading on the calamari was a bit sparse. For entrees, we ordered seafood pasta, the bolognese, and the beef short rib ravioli. My bolognese was filling but definitely not worth full price. The noodles all stuck together in a dry, large clump in the middle. I thought my friend's beef short rib ravioli was the most delicious entree of the group. The plating is beautiful and while there isn't as much food, the ravioli is flavorful, savory, and juicy. It is quite pricey so thank goodness for the BOGO. I was glad none of the entrees were overly salty. Overall, I thought the place was worth a try because we had a BOGO deal. The sauce was a bit watery, the seafood tasted like it wasn't fresh, and the pasta was just ... okay? I expected a bit more since I've had really good seafood pasta in Washington, and this place just wasn't up to standards. With most of the region shut down, there aren't a lot of dining choices that don't involve drive-thru's, and that was really not going to work for my fiance's 50th birthday. I asked what he wanted for dinner, and his choice was Italian, so I reached out to Blu Sardinia as they seemed to have takeaway. We were both thrilled with the choice! There weren't too many menu options, as they hadn't fully adapted to the takeout-only situation, but the options they did have were executed really well. I got a chicken dish which came with a light pepper sauce and a side of crispy fingerling potatoes that were sooooo delicious. My fiance got a more traditional pasta dish that he also enjoyed. The restaurant had decided to improvise a lemon tiramisu as they were temporarily unable to make espresso - we liked it so much that we hope it becomes a permanent menu item. We liked the whole dinner so much that we ordered takeaway from them again two weeks later, and were similarly pleased with our meal. I can't comment on the atmosphere or service because all we had was the food, but we dealt with the owner (I believe) when picking up our orders and she was super nice, spoke honestly about the restaurant and the situation with the staff during the pandemic, and got our orders quickly and correctly each time. I haven't tried going actually to the restaurant, but delivery standouts continue to be the Pane di Casa, any salad, the meatballs (!!!!!!), and the pasta dishes.
