Visited this restaurant because I had a $20 gift certificate. I absolutely enjoyed my burger and my steamed broccoli. And ended my meal with a free homemade cookie. I have to state that my burger will served with a gluten-free bun that was out of this world. The menu is diverse but not overwhelming. From the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out. The entire experience was amazing! Nelson the owner greeted us at the door, seated us, and explained the menu to us, was very genuine and kind. Our server was amazing and she answered all of our questions. This is truly a diamond in the rough restaurant. I can't believe I've been in Denver for three years and hadn't tried it yet. I am so glad that we went there yesterday to have our delicious lunch! We started with the Brussels, which were absolutely delicious. My husband had the chicken marsala, and I had the mahi which is wild, caught. Everything is farm to table. They offered us three different types of homemade breads to choose from and at the end gave us complementary cookies, which were absolutely fantastic. The service at Blu Star Grill is so welcoming and friendly. I came during lunchtime during the weekday, and was greeted by the friendly host. The ambiance is casual, but still nice. This is the place to get dinner with family or coworkers. It feels like there is something on the menu for everyone. You could order anything from a sandwich, burger, salad or wrap. I was especially impressed by the fresh fish offerings. I ordered the Ahi Tuna wrap with fries. The portions were large and I left very full. I was looking forward to returning to Blu Star Grill following a three year hiatus; however, I was rather disappointed with my entree this time around, and I was not the only one in my party to feel this way. Eight of us dined here on a Monday evening. The space is small, so I would not recommend arriving with this many sans reservations on the weekend. We were immediately seated and graciously taken care of throughout the evening by two different female servers. One of which, Brittany, was new and did a fantastic job so props to her! Last visit I ordered a bison burger and loved it. I decided on this visit to go with the strawberry balsamic glazed Wild Alaskan salmon (2 pieces of Grilled Salmon with a Strawberry Balsamic Glaze served with Roasted Broccoli and Wild Rice). I substituted the wild rice for sauteed veggies, a mix of yellow squash, zucchini, carrots, and red peppers, for a $1.50 upcharge. The dish was visually appealing; however, it lacked flavor when actually tasted. The salmon was very dry and had barely a hint of strawberry. I wish they would have added more glaze in order to mask the dryness of the salmon. The roasted broccoli was actually quite charred and burned with most of it being inedible. The roasted veggies were a well-prepared mix with a slight lemon flavor. Needless to say, I left a great deal of the dish behind. My Aunt also ordered a salmon dish, the Wild Alaskan salmon (2 pieces of Grilled Salmon over Herbed Wild Rice and Greens Beans topped with Charred Tomato Fondue & Smoked Bacon Bits) and had similar feelings. Mac and cheese at the end of my table was sent back and removed from the check as it was more oily than cheesy. My mom ordered the BBQ meatloaf (2 pieces of Meatloaf topped with Onion Straws Served with Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes & Chef's Vegetables) and was thoroughly unimpressed given that her meal was served ice cold. I did not hear from a couple other people, but the remaining food on their plates spoke for itself. My husband, however, ordered a bison burger (BYO) and really enjoyed it with added jalapenos and blue cheese. Perhaps that is the item to order since I loved it before, and it still seems to be a winner. Monday was $4 wine night, and it is worth mentioning that the wine pours were more than generous for both my mom and dad who ordered glasses. My mom, who loves her wine, let my husband drink about 1/4 of the glass because she said it was just too much for her with eating so little. I would not rule out coming here again; however, I think I would stick to the bison burger or try another sandwich or a salad. Those seem to be the items that get the most accolades from diners, and I can definitely confirm the bison burger is A+! read more

Veterans beware!! I'm a veteran with a service animal, the minute I walked in the hostess looked at me funny, I sat at the bar so my dog had room to lay down instantly the owner approached and gave me some song and dance about the health department and dogs...I had one beer and left because all of the staff did nothing but stare as my dog laid on the ground...On the way out I told the owner he should really learn the ADA rules cause him and his staff made me feel uncomfortable the whole time...he proceeded to tell me to leave and take my non-service animal with me, as he made references to people lying, I get that the emotional support animals has made it tough for true Service animals but he was straight out rude and dismissive. sad to think you can fight for this country and have PTSD and need a service animal but people are still ignorant. I will never go back and true patriot Americans should avoid this establishment at all costs! read more

This restaurant is definitely one not to pass by! They use grass fed/finished meats and wild caught fish and local foods when possible. I had the Flounder stuffed with crab over fresh homemade mashed potatoes and it was the evenings special. It exceeded my expectations! They also have gluten free, and vegetarian selections. Absolutely wonderful. A cute little corner place that looks unassuming but one peak at the menu shows the extensive variety. Only thing I didn't like was that they didn't serve dinner items like pasta before 4pm but that's only because they can't get reliable help in the kitchen which is understandable. However my boyfriend and I walked in around 2pm and each got burgers. He got elk and I got bison. Our orders were actually wrong which the hostess asked us "what we were asking for" as we explained that they were switched around but the owner I assume stepped in and said they would be remade. They have Pepsi products on the drink machine but coke products in cans. We ordered fried pickles as a starter. They were good. My husband ordered the elk burger with fries. I order buffalo chicken wrap with fries. The fries were a thick spirals. I wasn't expecting that, but they were good! Overall we enjoyed our meal. MLB was here a week or so ago with friends and was quite pleased so it was just a matter of time before we wound up here for dinner; can't say I was disappointed. Came in late Thursday to a warm greeting. Got a table and the owner stopped by to chat us up a bit and get our drink order. Started with fried green tomato and after considering the State of the Burger promo I decided on the BBQ Angus Meatloaf plus masheds and veggies and MLB had Napa Salmon plus herbed rice and squash. Tomato came out nicely plated with a good back-and-forth-and-back-again of lightly peppered aoli; breading was evenly crisped and golden brown on both sides, tomato was hot and firm underneath and separated with a little gentle forking. Five slices of meat loaf came out atop grilled squash and mashed yukon golds with a spoon of brown gravy. Squash were done well, wilted but still firm. BBQ adds an odd but not unpleasant note to the meatloaf, I am still not sure that it enhances the flavor but there it is; I typically take my meatloaf plain with ketchup so BBQ is a foreign element to me... the loaf was cooked through and firm and still forkably moist so complaints. MLB tucked into her fish with some zeal and not a bad word about it, if she's ever got a question about it I am the second person to know followed immediately by our server. Instead, she offered me a taste and it seemed alright to me. Will most likely be back sooner rather than later. read more

I went to blue star with my grandmother for lunch. Their prices were a bit high for a casual lunch but all in all the food was good. I has the strawberry salad and subbed my mixed greens for organic kale which took my salad to the next level. Wow. This place was a breath of fresh air. The food quality is superb, the atmosphere is inviting, and the service was friendly. The woman who took care of us was sweet as pie and really made us feel extremely welcome the entire time. We sat by the sunny window and enjoyed a fresh lunch made with excellent quality ingredients. We got the blackened chicken club and the honey buffalo sandwich. Both were amazing and generous portion sizes. We got the chef's vegetables and the green beans as sides and they were roasted and seasoned perfectly. The owner stopped by and answered our questions about an upcoming 6 course experience they are having which sounded awesome. He also just gave us a great small conversation. I also loved the free cookies they give at the end of the meal. The white chocolate macadamia nut cookie was absolutely delicious. I'm so happy that I walked out of a different restaurant (it was dirty) to come here because not only was the restaurant spotless and clean, but it was just absolutely amazing in every way. Super nice,I had a salad., The second time my food wasn't great and today I ordered a GRILLED chicken breast on a croissant with everything on the side because I wanted it plain., what they brought was a chicken breast dripping in olive oil and dark with powered herbs ..... plus whatever else they put in it., I asked why it wasn't grilled and was told they would fix it., again I was brought the same thing. I took ONE bite of the first one and one bite of the second and left everything! I was charged $14.00 for something that I left!!! Didn't even bother to ask if I wanted something else.... and the cookies they so gallantly provide ..... she didn't bring one at all! Concept is simple in that everything is fresh, as Gluten Free and non-GMO as possible and prepared in a manner when as much of the flavor and character are preserved. My wife and friends went to see Porgie and Bess in Charlotte and I was told to find diner where I liked. In my case, that place was Blu Star. For an appetizer, I order the Chipolte Ranch Mushrooms which were excellent. For my main, I ordered the Catfish with Fries, homemade Coleslaw and a Cornbread Muffin. Aside from the Muffin being a bit hard, everything was perfect. Our servers were excellent. The use a buddy system where one get's busy, the others cover her tables for her to insure that no patron is left unattended. We came here actually as a backup since our other restaurant was closed and we were VERY pleasantly surprised! The food was excellent, on time, and delicious! We got take out for 8 people and our entire order was correct, small substitutions and changes included.
