Anytime we're driving through Mooresville (we live in NY and travel south a lot), we make a point of stopping at the Blu Star Grill. We ordered online yesterday for takeout and when we got there and saw how nice it was outside we decided to sit outside to eat. The owner gave us our drinks and told us to go sit down and that he would have the food brought out. Between me, my wife, and my daughter, we had the Scallops & Shrimp Pasta, the Strawberry Salad, and the Carolina Crab Cakes. Each dish was excellent! I stopped by with my two young daughters and we had a great meal with great service. I had a Cobb Salad which was very good and the girls got Mac N Cheese and a Grilled Cheese which they really enjoyed. The Brussel Sprout appetizer was also delicious. Even better was the service - very welcoming and kind to the kids. They even gave us some free cookies and a coupon for a free burger on our next visit since it was our first time. Visited for the first time on 3/18/23. Was a phenomenal visit! Nelson, the owner, spoke to us extensively about where he sources his meats from. When we mentioned my wife needing to eat gluten free he explained how they take care to avoid cross contamination in the kitchen. They use a separate fryer for fries, they will use fresh utensils and new pans when preparing your meal. Just ask your server. My wife has Celiac and while all the GF diet fad people have made more restaurants have options, few take enough care to be safe for someone with Celiac. Oh, plus the best GF bun I've ever tasted. We are always warmly greeted upon arrival and genuinely thanked when leaving. They give you a cookie to go! The service is always top notch; even understaffed due to circumstances beyond their control, drinks are topped off and numerous times they check-in to make sure everything is going well. In a place reminiscent of the diners up north, the menu has something for everyone - including GF options that are actually delicious. Food allergies are given serious attention and they have not made a mistake in the several times we visited! The salads and wraps are my go-to and my husband is making his way through all the various sandwiches available. Their fish entrees and burgers get rave reviews as well. We are so happy to have found such a wonderful neighborhood restaurant and they are truly grateful for the support. Lunch with the wife and our first time at Blu. While the people are super nice, the food is at best meh. The fried catfish was soft and "watery". Frozen filet and perhaps not fried long enough? I just wasn't enjoying my food. The white slaw had so much mayonnaise that I just couldn't eat it. The salad only had 4 cucumbers and five tomatoes with nothing else but the lettuce. $17.00 for this? Here's how things breakdown: BluStar focuses on burgers: Angus, Bison, Turkey, Black Bean and Mahi-Mahi. You can build your own w/various rolls and toppings, or you can select one of their specials. They also have nicely done salads and sandwiches. Kiddie options are grilled cheese, burgers and chix strips w/fries. The good: -Bright, clean, friendly, good service. - Owner is attentive and willing to roll up his sleeves & help out. - My boys loved the mac&cheese. It is not typical Kraft/blue box m&c. The notsogood: - Service is VERY attentive - a blessing & a curse. It was very busy on Friday night but we always had someone checking on our table. ALWAYS. It is nice but makes it hard to have a conversation. Of course, I'd rather have too much service than nonexistent so this is forgiven. - I had the special Cowboy Burger and I asked for it medium/medium rare. Even though it was somewhat pink inside, it was dry. My hubby had the same but chose a Bison patty and said it had a nice flavor but, again, dry. The other two burgers at our table were nice, lean, cooked to order. The fries are good but won't blow you away. The bad: - My son's tenders were over-cooked. - The upcharges are out of line. $1.29 for applesauce, fruit or mac&cheese instead of fries w/kiddie meals. $1.29 for applesauce is pretty ridiculous considering a few more cents will buy me a full jar at the store. The really bad: My mom asked if the burgers come w/pickles, the waitress said 'No, only by request.' She then asked if anyone wanted pickles on their burgers my mom and I both said, 'NO! We are both allergic so please make sure we don't get pickles.' Guess what. BIG pickle spears on EVERY plate. We both itch and get hives from pickles. What if we had such severe allergies we went into shock? NOT SO SMART. OVERALL: Five Guys is better for burgers and fries. The salads are nice (hubby had a side salad and it was huge, consisting of mixed greens, spinach and lots of veggies.) Will give them one more try for a non-burger option. read more

Ordered lunch for the staff here today. They have a really awesome online order feature where you can place your order at any time (whether they're open or not) and they notify you 15 mins after they open to confirm your order! Super convenient for busy offices when you need to place a big order and not have to be on the phone for 20 minutes! Placed the order for everyone and at 11:15am got a call regarding some desserts we put on the order. They ran out of the chocolate cake (bummer) and were calling to see if we wanted to switch to something else. We switched a couple to other desserts they had and canceled one. Our drug rep picked the order up and she said that they were very apologetic and threw in a bunch of cookies for us. That was very nice of them and great customer service. The food was done on time and ready for pick up when we needed it. All the orders came out correct and the food was a big hit with the office! Everything tasted fresh and nice big portions of food. I can't stress enough how happy I was that the orders were all correct. You would be surprised how many times we do catering orders with catering companies and they still can't get things correct. Not Blu Star! They got it down! Overall it was a great experience. I may have to stop in sometime and actually have a sit down meal here! Went there again at the insistence of family who never had a bad experience and our service and food was much better than the last time I ate there. I particularly like the fried okra but my chicken salad was also pretty good. Hubs liked his burger. Service was prompt and personable. I was not allowed to be seated in a booth by myself with my service animal because "I would be taking up a whole booth for only 1 guest". We came here around 6:30 on a weeknight. It was surprisingly empty. I would've thought it would've been busier. We were seated promptly and given our drinks soon after. I'll start with the service. Our waitress clearly just did not want to be there. She was rather unpleasant and not friendly whatsoever. That was a rather unfortunate touch to our dinner. The food was just so-so. Nothing really to ride home about. They have a lot of sandwiches and burgers, but they also have a more expensive dinner fare which includes things like fish and pasta. I got the teriyaki chicken with rice, pineapple and vegetables. It was alright. Nothing special. My friend got grilled chicken croissant. She said it was just okay too. Everything on this menu also has a steep price tag. Between this, the sub-par food, and the poor service, I doubt I'll be back.
