The food is your standard sushi spot food. We started with the vegetable tempura and it was solid but nothing to it. I wish they had more of an assortment of vegetables. They only had broccoli, eggplant, and a sweet potato. The edamame needed some more seasoning. The sushi was fresh and you could tell. The spicy tuna roll and salmon avocado were spot on. They also had specialty rolls that hit the spot. You can't beat the lunch special though with 3 rolls for $16 or 2 rolls for $12 I believe. This place lived up to my expectations and I would come back to try more of the sushi items. My advice is stick to the sushi... it is what they do best! read more

My family had been raving about Blu Sushi for months and insisted that they introduce me to the small, cozy Japanese restaurant. They made a reservation for a Saturday evening, which was clearly a wise idea, since the place was packed! As they had mentioned, the service was beyond sweet, friendly, and efficient. The food was also largely delightful. We each began the experience with a bowl of Miso Soup, which included a generous amount of bold miso paste, tofu, seaweed, and scallions. Speaking of scallions, we also shared the Beef Negimaki appetizer, which consisted of thinly-sliced, but tough, beef wrapped around long strips of scallion and pan-fried. As I said, the meat was a bit chewy, but the side of teriyaki dipping sauce helped to soften it up a bit, making it easier to consume. We also split an order of Fish Tacos, an odd, yet intriguing, offering for an Asian restaurant. The soft tortillas contained wild mahi mahi, which we found a bit dry. Like with the beef, the addition of the chef's special sauce and Asian slaw improved the dish. The taco's side salad with spicy aioli dressing was fabulous, though. Lastly, we could not go to Blu without ordering some of their sushi. While the Eel Avocado Roll was rather straightforward, their 10-piece Golden Billie roll included tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and avocado wrapped with soy paper and topped with tobiko and the chef's special sauce. The 6-piece Iso Maki roll was a similarly interesting blend of tuna, yellowtail, salmon, avocado and caviar in white seaweed and served with a side of spicy dipping sauce. The sushi was all fresh and tasty, though I think my preference of substituting brown rice for the white made the rolls a bit mushy. Blu was BYO, so we were able to enjoy a bottle of prosecco while we appreciated the quaint dining area, gracious service, and good food. read more

Great local sushi spot! After being underwhelmed with my usual sushi spot in town I was looking to change things up. I chose Blu off of yelp reviews and was so happy I did. First off, they take reservations which is a huge deal for Ridgewood. The restaurant is small, 8-10 tables inside and a few outside, and the decor is very comfortable. An exposed brick wall, blue and white clothed chairs and nature inspired art makes the atmosphere very inviting. After being seated we were greeted by a very friendly waitress. Throughout the meal she was so accommodating and checked on us a couple times to make sure we were ok. The food came out in a timely manner and everything was so fresh. We got a couple appetizers to share, an order of stir fry with udon noodles and 6 specialty rolls. All the food was so delicious. Overall I am so happy with my decision to give Blu a shot and will definitely be back. They also offer take out and delivery in town which is super accommodating. Blu sushi in the town of Ridgewood NJ is an intimate, sophisticated and romantic sushi venue. We decided to visit Blu to celebrate my wife's birthday. Upon arrival we were greeted by Xaio, Yo-yo who introduced us to sushi chef Masa. We requested that our dishes be chosen by the chef Masa. We began our Asian feast with a plate of Yellowtail jalapeño with a beautiful edible flower on the top of the plate. Delicious! Next on our special menu we were served Fried oysters, and dancing scallops. Both plates were perfectly prepared and totally delightful. At this point two beautifully arranged plates arrived: Shrimp tempura roll and spicy tuna roll Both accompanied with ginger slices and wasabi! The individual pieces of each roll were so beautiful that it seemed almost sinful to desecrate them by actually devouring them. I guess we were sinners as these rolls disappeared rapidly. After a short break another two platters arrived: A delicately sliced plate of sashimi. And a plate of tuna delight. These plates were also quickly consumed. The tuna and sashimi were simply awesome in appearance and in taste! We finished our mini feast with some refreshing tea. Blu Sushi is everything you could possibly want for lunch or dinner . I wasn't even sitting down yet before they asked me what I wanted to drink. I asked if I could have a water because I had no idea what they had. Once I looked and saw they had Honest Green Tea I ordered that. They came back with 3 different Honest Tea brands and told me that they only have Hot Green Tea. So why did you put on your take out menu under the Honest Tea section Green Tea? My steamed Pork Gyoza came out and it was good. My spicy crunch salmon was good as well. My mom ordered two spicy crab with mango rolls and only received one of them. But she was pleased with her roll as well. Not once did they ask how our food was. They brought the check as I was still chewing my last piece of sushi. Was the food good? Definitely. Was the service good?
