One of my friends recommended Masago to me and I couldn't have been happier that they did! First of all the price is unbeatable. Salmon avocado rolls are usually at least $7 but here they are $5. The quality of the sushi is also unreal and I could taste the freshness of my salmon and in my shrimp tempura rolls. The restaurant was super clean and the staff were super friendly. We happened to stumble upon this place in Ridgewood for dinner, and really enjoyed it! All we knew is we really wanted sushi. Another gem we've found living in the burbs. We love going out for some AYCE sushi but after discovering Masago, we enjoy just ordering a platter to go. While it's a 20 min drive for us, we find that it's nice to order while heading out and by the time we get there it's ready to go. Service is always excellent smooth ordering and never an issues. Masago is on the smaller side but a very cute place. Decent amount of tables to eat in. When we first started ordering from them it would be 50% off if you paid with cash and now you can pay either way and it's the same price which is nice because we don't always carry cash. If you want average sushi at affordable prices, this is the place to come to. It's a decent size place with a lot of tables spaced out, not too close to each other. The way this place works is a discount on everything, not a huge fan of that but everything is jacked up and most items are 50% off, so I had to actually think about if the prices are reasonable and yes they are. The sushi quality is average, it does the job. Service is actually pretty good here, they make sure you get your order and check up on you. I don't know why this place doesn't have more good reviews! First of all, Masago is extremely reasonably priced. We came here for Father's Day dinner with six people and were shocked at how low our bill was. The place is BYOB and their menu is very large, with a ton of original signature rolls. I started with the sushi special appetizer which was absolutely delicious. They were also able to modify the Naruto Roll for me to replace the cucumber with sushi rice. This has been my go-to sushi place for years. Always delicious, reliable, and definitely the most affordable in the area. I really miss coming here with friends, but ordering takeout has been just as satisfying. Some of my favorites are the Spicy Mango Lobster Roll, Six Flags Roll, Sweet Heart Roll, and the sushi pizza appetizer (it's basically a scallion pancake with sushi & vegetables on top...so so good!). Their simpler rolls are also great, including the vegetable ones -- this is probably my favorite place to order a sweet potato roll. They have a good selection of other entree options as wellI really like the shrimp yaki udon and the tofu teriyaki. And yes, all of the rolls are 50% off the price listed!! Masago is our go-to sushi spot! Not only is it close, but the sushi options are all so tasty. I find the menu a little overwhelming (I get like this when I'm at a sushi restaurant bc I don't want to regret what I ordered). Anyway, when my family and I usually go we order aged tofu to start, a Kani salad and vegetable tempura. The tofu is so soft and hot when served. The kani salad could use a little more crab (it's mostly cucumber) and the tempura is lightly fried. Moving on, depending on what we are craving each of us order around 3 rolls each. The 50% off discount is great! Most sushi restaurants price their sushi at $20 for around 8 pieces. I refrain from ordering an absurd amount bc I don't want to break the bank and end up still being hungry. I appreciate the prices at Masago, it gives me more wiggle room to order more!! I ordered veggie rolls in brown rice that came out to look like purple rice! It's got a deep mauve color & personally I really laaave the texture, kinda "toasty" not squishy like typical sushi rice. Really good sushi at prices that are pretty incredible. Pretty much all of the rolls on the menu are 50% off the listed price. I think it used to be that you have to pay cash to get this deal but that doesn't seem to be a requirement anymore. From what I saw and can remember, that means specialty rolls are $8 - 10 which you very rarely see in this area. Regular rolls are $3 - 4. All of our food was very fresh, I definitely didn't have any concerns about quality whatsoever. Our waitress was a sweetheart. Service was a little slow because it seems that there are a lot of takeout orders and not enough staff, but we weren't really in that much of a rush. Pretty decent deal for sushi since it's only half price if paying cash. My friends, Edgar V. and Ivan P. chose this place because our friend Valbona X. brought her dog with her. I've been busy and haven't taken the time to review this place. This place gets a -5 stars if I had a choice. Here a some *HUGE* problems this establishment has... 1. 50% off if paid by cash. This only applies to rolls and does not include any specials they might have (fair). This advertisement is false as their rolls are double the price of other sushi places. So you're just paying full price thinking you're getting a discount. Tax evasion is not cool. 2. Rude customer service. Extremely rude. I've eaten at my fair share of Japanese places to know that a Sashimi special comes with rice. The lady on the phone decides to tell me that it doesn't and doesn't know what i'm talking about. I've actually called a couple of local sushi places to confirm. Oh and they charged $13 for like 6 slices of fish. 3. The fish is only subpar. If you're going to charge full prices (remember the 50% off is a hoax) at least get some high quality fish. 4. After the no rice incident I found a staple in my fish. I'm sure this was an honest mistake on their end because stuff like this happens from time to time. The lady on the phone though... Rude rude rude. Safe to say I would not be coming back. 50% sushi.. enough said Okay sounds sketch right? Well having moved relatively close to this restaurant I thought I'd give it a try. So my husband and I stopped by this past Friday itching for some sushi. We ordered the yellow tail neck appetizer (very very good, ample meat which is rare) grilled to perfection Rolls: Tiger Roll Crazy Friday Rainbow Roll (i think) and the Sashimi Dinner Special Overall ordered too much but the bill came out to $39 instead of $78 soo that was AWESOME. The quality of the rolls was satisfactory, some of the rice wasn't cooked perfectly but the taste overall was good and presentation was fine as well. The Sashimi platter was not that great in terms of quality so I would reccomend folks ordering rolls instead of the sashimi. I've had excellent sashimi at East in Teaneck,NJ so the quality here in comparison was not that great (not as smooth and silky) PROS: BYOB , 50% Sat/Sunday with cash payment, Variety CONS: staff isn't the most attentive, sashimi wasn't that great, can get very packed so call ahead of time! read more

So, let me begin this review by saying that I've been going to Masago's Great Neck location almost on a weekly basis for the past four years. My trip to Ridgewood was the first Masago I've ever dined at outside my hometown, and I'm pleased to say it's quite comparable! The service, like in Great Neck, varies, but it's pretty standard. The food is more or less the same tastewise. I ordered some of my usual dishes, the sushi pizza and salmon toro tartare (ALWAYS a must), and I threw in a calamari salad to go with it. Though I didn't have any of my usual rolls, my friend ate some and said she was impressed since the sushi is half price! For dessert we had red bean mochi ice cream which was decent, and fried banana because who doesn't love fried things? The differences I noticed at this location were that their menu isn't as large as Great Neck's. They don't offer as many dishes from the kitchen or as many desserts. Also, Great Neck recently introduced an all-you-can-eat menu option, which I guess hasn't hit Jersey yet. HOWEVER...and this is a big however...it's BYOB here. Win! read more
