First time trying this place and honestly disappointed. I ordered the Queso Fundido and it came out in like 2 minutes. Pretty fast but okay cool. It was pretty good, I'll give it that but when it was dropped off, he took my order. They literally brought out my Top Shelf Enchiladas 2 minutes later, I had maybe two bites of my appetizer. I for one don't like all of my food coming out at once, but what made it worse the shrimp tasted cold. I concur with another review that it's mostly shrimp, little lobster in the dish. We actually stoped here on a whim and I will say my tummy was happy about it. I believe we visited Blue Agave around 1 and it was not busy. We were seated pretty fast. Blue agave is a fusion restaurant, between Mexican and Asian cuisine. Looking at the menu there are a ton of gluten free options and items that can be modified to be gluten free. I decided to go with the Adobo burrito. I will say it was delicious, but looking at the menu I now see it was not gluten free. I asked my waitress if it was and she said yes. I will say double check your menu and ask you waiters. That could be a no no for someone with an allergy. We also ordered the grilled Lime chicken tacos, which are definitely gluten free. The grilled lime tacos came on a corn tortilla. The avocado tacos were good, and were more enjoyable then the the lime chicken tacos. I really wanted to give more stars to the restaurant, but the whole thinking something is gluten free and being told it is by staff is not fun. read more

Definitely more of a sit-down, modern type of restaurant. I used the Yelp check-in offer and got the $5 margarita which was decent. For the entree, I got the blackened yellow-fin tuna. Portion is not big, but the presentation and taste were pretty good. I liked the sauce they used. My friend got the salmon and also liked it. I started off with the blue agave margarita and I was pleasantly surprised that it was only $5. I am guessing this is a late night special. Their drink menu is extensive and tequila is their speciality. I ordered the mango fish tacos with the romaine lettuce. The tacos were very delicious and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a great combination of sweet and spicy. My friend saw my plate and even ordered one for herself to go. The good thing is both of our dishes looked the same. With the late time that we came in, the staff was pretty accommodating and the kitchen made the food as if it was in the middle of the day. My girlfriend made reservations for her and I to have my birthday dinner at this restaurant and I was unable to make it past the appetizer since the waiter made it his duty to point out that this establishment is a "Whites Only" place of business. When I demanded that I receive the same service as the other patrons who were all Caucasian, he exclaimed that he was not obligated to do so and if I felt as though I was entitled to such service I should visit another restaurant. When I exclaimed it was my birthday and that we made prior reservations but the website did not state that we would not be treated fairly, the waiter insisted that we find another place to eat if our expectations had not been met. I requested to speak with a supervisor who came to our table and explained how his employee felt uncomfortable with waiting on me and we were asked to leave immediately. I attempted to explain the matter to the supervisor who told me I was drunk and didn't know what I was talking about. We paid for our appetizer and left gratuity. I continued to try and explain and the manager told me that it doesn't matter and he claimed to be calling the police as he picked up the phone. As I began to exit and express how wrong this was, other guests began to shout things such as "GET UR ASS OUT!" And "Scam artist" I was so embarrassed and out numbered. I had a mojito and everyone else had one of the margaritas. They have a lot of different options and the waiter was great with accommodating everyone's wishes. I then started with the black and white nachos. These were tasty but I was a little disappointed that there weren't more chips. Its definitely not your typical nachos. For the main meal I had the Tacos en Fuego with steak which were fun cause they come light them on fire at tableside. These were also very tasty. As far as the service our waiter was very nice but it did take a long time for the food to come. And then also for us to get the check. So happy to be dining in again! Due to it's 16th Street Mall location, Blue Agave's vibe is expectedly touristy with prices higher than they should be. But the food is good and I appreciate the gluten-free and vegan options. Portions are small, so feel free to fill up on the free chips and salsa or some draft beer. We had the Fried Avocado tacos and Walnut "chorizo" crumble enchiladas. Both made vegan by omitting cheese. You get two tacos and two enchiladas with each order, with a side of rice and beans or rice and grilled veggies. Portions are quite small for the $14 price but flavors are on point.
