This place is located right next door to the Asian food grocery store Hong Kong Trading Co. Blue Bamboo is really good when the country they fuse with complements the Asian dishes. The first time I ate here, it was a really good fusion, but the second time was not so good. I went here yesterday with a few friends and it was really good. I guess this month's theme "Southern Comfort Throwdown" suited the food well. We had the edamame spread with the crackers (I really like that edamame dip), and BBQ Duck Wonton Crisps, which tasted OK, but have a little too much sauce for me. For the main course, I ordered Thai Red Curry Chicken with Mixed Vegetables and Jasmine Rice. It was actually really, really good, but very filling, so most likely you'll be bringing half of it home. And of course, I saved room for dessert. For $6 you get a sampling of 3 of their desserts, which is great, but the "serving" of each dessert is only about 2 bitefuls. It's kind of like a tease. Lol. Service was excellent and luckily there were 3 of us for dinner that night so the food and bill were split evenly. They also have martinis here and a private wine bar in the back (with bottles on the wall as decor). I ordered a martini which was really chocolatey and good. If I was just a tad more tipsy I might have licked the glass clean. They've got sushi here, which I haven't tried yet. And they also have cooking classes one Saturday a month at 10 am but I haven't tried those either. read more

This is seriously over priced Chinese food. It's just decent. I've had better more flavorful Singapore curry noodles at my neighborhood Chinese restaurant for half the price. I'm not sure how else to start besides, WOW! In my excitement to eat, I forgot to take any pictures of our delicious food!! My husband and I tried this place with another couple. It was suggested from a friend and definitely outside of our usual area to eat. Our server, was awesome. She was very attentive to us and had great suggestions. We tried the Dragon Whiskers (lightly fried zucchini fries) as an appetizer at our servers suggestion. They came with a ranch style dip and they were soooo good! My husband had the Red Curry Chicken Stir Fry while I had the Honey Garlic Shrimp with noodles (instead of rice like it comes with). Our friends tried the Panko Sweet n Sour Chicken & General Tso Chicken. We also shared some egg rolls. All plates were wiped clean! Besides being absolutely fresh and delicious, I remember even the guys saying "wow the presentation is really cool" (which is why I'm so mad I didn't get pics!!). We were way too full to get dessert, but that too looked delish. I'm sure COVID played a part, but they weren't super busy for a Saturday evening (although it was a little late for dinner). We ordered the Half Canton Roast Duck and Red Curry Chicken Stir-fry. We were served some flax seed crackers and edamame paste, which were okay. The edamame paste is like Asian guacamole. Another cool thing is that the ice cubes of their ice tea were made up tea, so it won't dilute your tea when your ice melts. The duck was good but not great, and it came with very little sauce and very little rice. I ran out of sauce and rice before I was able to finish half of the duck. The duck also didn't taste very fresh to me, and it was a little tough. For a $27 dish, I expect something more flavorful. At other restaurants, a whole fresh delicious Peking duck costs $25-$30. The Red Curry Chicken Stir-fry was recommended to us as the hottest dish, but it wasn't even a "mild" on a spicy meter. It was very bland and unflavorful. This was one of our least favorite curry in Jacksonville, and we've tasted many different curry from Thai and Indian restaurants in Jax. The curry my wife cooks at home using curry powder and coconut milk from the local Asian market tastes better than this. We came here tonight to celebrate 10 years as a family! We loved the new decor and the staff were very attentive! Each of us ordered something different and were pleased with our meals! The menu has changed a bit since our last visit but my daughter and I were able to get our favorites while my husband and son chose meals from the current menu! I had the green curry shrimp and salmon and my daughter had (ok I call it chicken on a stick ... ) and my husband had sweet and sour chicken and my son had the new noodle and beef dish that was divine. Every plate was clean at the end of the meal!! And then... we had dessert!! My daughter opted for vanilla ice cream until she tried the Mandarin Orange Cake and had to have her own! Excellent atmosphere, elegant surroundings, truly a wonderful overall experience. We started with the LA Tacos and the Five Dumpling Sampler. And I cannot make enough compliments to both. I'm planning to be there for the Tacos as a lunch entree and a big batch of spring rolls and potstickers! The spring rolls were simply exquisite in balance and crunch - the potsticker was my favorite potsticker of all time. The dough was perfect - not too thick which is a problem for many establishments - and seared just enough to provide a perfect blanket for an expertly balanced pork filling with an oniony profile. I had the Basil Miso Salmon WiFi was very good, although not med rare as I was told to expect. It was a tail piece of salmon which is nearly impossible to prepare med rare, so it's ok. I did want a more miso glaze and more basil oil. But the salmon was tender and flavorful even at a well The accompaniment vegetables were incredible- and I am a tough sell where carrots are involved. My SO had the Sichuan stir fry with beef which was delicious ... maybe more heat would have been nice. Overall we were extremely pleased with the experience at Blue Bamboo. read more

This was my first time dining at Blue Bamboo. My husband and I stopped in for lunch yesterday. The decor is contemporary. It's a small place but well appointed. I loved the grey color pallet throughout the restaurant. It was clean and had a relaxing vibe. After looking over the menu we decided to get the wok lunch specials. You pick your choice of meat, starch and three vegetables. There are also about five different cooking sauces ranging from mild to spicy. I'm a huge fan of food that leaves the kitchen piping hot. You're almost guaranteed that result when you order food prepared in a wok. Lol. It was steaming hot just the way I like it. The presentation was lovely. I really liked the bowls they used to showcase the food. I choose the Shrimp wok with fried rice and Mongolian chili sauce. My choice of vegetables were broccoli, baby bok choy and spinach. The sauce was delicious and the vegetables and shrimp were cooked perfectly. My only complaint was the fried rice. It was bland and more like plain white rice. There really wasn't enough rice in the dish to offset the sauce. It was swimming in sauce and just got lost in the bottom of the dish. I feel this dish would present itself better if the rice was served separately. My husband choose the beef with rice noodles and a garlic, ginger sauce. His dish had plenty of noodles and the beef was very tender. He also enjoyed the garlic ginger sauce very much. The service was good and the entire staff was friendly. This was our first visit to the new blue bamboo location on San Jose, we had visited the old location once before for dim sum and the dinner is much the same, only okay. The best parts of the meal was the appetizers. We ordered pan fried dumplings that were served with a delicious sauce and "dragon whiskers" which are zucchini fries, both were delicious. The entree on the other hand were a let down. The spare ribs were so tough and chewy that they were inedible. They're going to make a great chew toy for the dog. They seem to boil their chicken and it's some weird texture for their other dishes. The seared ahi tuna on the other hand was delicious. All in all, not a fan. read more

Our waiter, Jacob, took time to explain and recommend things on the extensive menu and, following some of his suggestions, we had a wonderful meal. We finally had a chance to visit Blue Bamboo. It has been on my to-do list for a long time now. The food was good but we probably won't visit here again. The portions were small and although it tasted good, I still did not feel it was worth the amount of money we paid for it. My favorite entree was the lamb chops. They were mini chop well seasoned and cooked to perfection!! If they lamb chops were bigger or there were more lamb chops on the plate, I would have been okay with the amount we paid for it. The vegetable samosas were also very good. This appetizer was worth the price and I would definitely go there just to pick them up. The shrimp and grits were different. We were a little concerned about whether the shrimp were actually fully cooked or not but there was no way to be sure. So we used lemons to squeeze over the shrimp to make me feel better. The sauce that was used on the shrimp and grits with the peppers and onions was very flavorful. I believe we liked the peppers and onions the most on this dish. My son had the sweet & sour chicken, which he devoured but was still hungry after he finished the plate. For my family, this place will not get a 2nd visit because their appetites are not normal. If it was for myself, things would be different but they eat a lot more than I do. read more

Never again. Our OpenTable reservation was not credited. The Jackfruit appetiser tasted like breaded artichoke. They don't know why. The food was OK. The portions were small and a little tasteless. We kept the sauce from our appetiser, which helped to flavor the entrees! The service was OK. Twice our table was completely out of water, but my mom wouldn't let me grab the pitcher from the counter AND the pacing was off. The restaurant was mostly empty, but noisy! An extra charge was added without being mentioned (check your bill!), but was removed when I mentioned it. The Basil Miso Salmon was undercooked. It was seared with a note about not eating undercooked food. After all the hype, it was absolutely not worth the cost. We're heading home where we're going to make Dad more food. Due to the pandemic, this was my first time in the new Blue Bamboo location on San Jose Blvd. I had been closely monitoring the building and decorating on social media until it was safe enough for me to go in person. We decided to go on the Saturday evening before Mother's Day. There were hand sanitizer stations at the door and all of the staff was masked and so were most patrons until food arrived. If you have never been to Blue Bamboo before, please do your tastebuds a favor and go. It is the perfect combination of Asian Fusion with some southern recipes. We started our meal with an appetizer of Dragon Whiskers, a fried zucchini dish that never disappoints, as we were trying to decide on our main course. I finally decided on Chop Chop Salad with panko-crusted chicken slices. My friend Maura had the truly southern inspired Shrimp & Grits in a curry sauce. The portions are more than generous and I had enough for two meals. We followed our main courses with dessert - the award winning Florida Citrus Crunch Cake for me, and a slice of a freshly made peanut butter pie for Maura. To say we were in a food coma on the way home would be putting it mildly. Chef Dennis never disappoints and tonight was no exception. Plus, if you order a flavored iced tea they make ice cubes in those flavors to keep your glass chilled - simple, cute & your tea never dilutes...genius!!! Starters? How about the crispy duck wontons. Oh yeah, totally worth it! The chef combines a tangy, sweet, yet bold sauce with some duck & extras on a few crispy wontons. Crab Rangoon, spring rolls & egg rolls are all great (sadly I've tried them all), but if you are going for fusion you have to sample the fried dragon whiskers! Simple concept, but executed well & a great fried appetizer option (plus its zucchini so you can feel good your getting a vegetable serving). Room for a lunch entree? Light solution - the peanut-lime chicken salad or seared ahi salad, both favorites. For more filling, hands-down absolutely the best lunch item LA SHORTRIB TACOS!!! Wraps are also a good choice, plus many of the entrees you have some flexibility on a side which is always fun. The wife and I decided for a lunch date! Blue bamboo was our selection and we couldn't have selected a more appropriate place! The interior is simple but open, bright, but not blinding, and feels "welcoming". The lunch menu was full of fresh and colorful choices. Chef Dennis came to our table and chat with us before our meal and gave us some nice insight on his menu. He has a pleasant demeanor, genuine and kind personality, and we both felt he had a true passion for his craft! My wife and I were very impressed by him! We started our meal with a refreshing flax seed crackers and edamame spread! Delicious! Our appetizer was the BBQ duck wonton crisps!!! A nice compliment of flavor, however, we felt there could've been more duck meat. But full of flavor with the right amount of spice! My wife decided on the chicken katsu sandwich that my wife loved!!! She even got an extra side of the wasabi aioli, which complimented the fries perfectly!!! I chose the Sichuan beef over white jasmine rice and was very satisfied!!!! I have a huge plate of absolute deliciousness!!! I left extremely full! Happy husband! Our overall bill was a little high, $40 for the two of us, however it was worth every penny. We enjoyed our meal and left satisfied! I have been driving by this place for the last year and have been curious, because it remains open and seems to have really good reviews. But I never see many cars parked there when I was driving by after work at 5pm. I finally decided to check it out and I realized they are just opening up for their dinner service at 5pm. There is also a lunch service, and I am curious to stop and get some of their lunch only dishes. Anyways I ordered their Korean short-rib Tacos and the Panko-cheese Tomatoes. The Korean tacos I assumed are derive from the Kogi Trucks (Los Angeles, CA - Roy Choi) and flavor was great and are worth coming back for, though the chew on the short ribs could have been less chew (the quality of beef here in Jacksonville is mediocre, unless you want to pay ultra premium prices). But either way I will be back for more of these. The Panko-Cheese tomatoes, upon first bite I was thinking should have used green tomatoes, because this is the south... But it had a sweet succulent red ripe tomato inside. Upon the second bite I got a sharp saltiness from the cheese and realized that balanced with the sweetness of the tomato, made this a really nice bite. Though inconsistencies with the saltiness across each bite of the tomato made this stroke of genious like a police light... on. off. on. off. I wonder if they have tried this with really flavorful heirloom tomatoes and toned down the saltiness. Anyways, I will come back again to try their other items. Blue Bamboo just opened its new place on San Jose Blvd, Food and service were outstanding for a restaurant that just opened!! The wine list and cocktails were on point and well priced. Crab Ragoon was perfectly cooked and the sauce was perfect for it. My wife had the Ahi Tuna and I had the pork steak both were cooked perfectly and tasted great. We had a bottle of the La Crema Pinot Noir that was a perfect pairing for our dishes. I'm looking forward to making this restaurant a regular staple on the rotation. In addition, had the ribs to go and earlier reviews were misleading they were some of the best ribs I have had from a Chinese restaurant, so not sure what they experienced but I can't wait to have them again read more

Started with the whiskers appetizer good starter dish while waiting on entree lite and crisp flashed fry zucchini shavings. For my entree I had the lamb which is a dish not many places can make work, but here they outdid them selfs simply superb accompanied with a potato patty crab cake like . My wife decided on the Trat fish another hit, fork tender white filet encrusted in some type of batter seasoned just right, big portions too I may add! try the cucumber cocktails a treat! for desert we shared the cheese cake, flown in from New York and brûlée right before serving it topped with raspberry chocolate shavings. I read the reviews, and decided to try Blue Bamboo for myself. Don't get me wrong, the food isn't bad. But it's just not worth the inflated price or the hype that surrounds it. We de used to try four of the appetizers to get a sampling of their flavors. What we found was that every appetizer had sugar in one form or another. I'm just into sweet Asian food. We went to blue Bamboo on a busy night, but our waitress was not the best. She barely checked on us during our meal, and when it came time to get a box and the check she was moving even slower. The manager, or owner, not sure who he was just stood around and didn't help out when he set up one waitress to serve a huge party. While I can almost excuse the fact that the service was subpar because of the party, that doesn't explain the food. I'm not sure if it's just what my boyfriend and I ordered but our entrees were so bland and boring that I didn't even want to keep my leftovers when we got home. The entrees were so disappointing, since they were being described as having robust flavor and spice and they were so bland the only flavor that my dish had was from the egg noodles. What made it so much more disappointing was the fact that the appetizers had so much flavor and were delicious! So I was set up to believe that it would all be good.. unfortunately the main course was just so bland, boring and overpriced. read more
