Best place for custom sandwiches and salads. My favorite is the truffle Sando and the kale Ceasar salad with grilled chicken. Fresh ingredients. Fairly quick service (between 10-15 minutes usually to get your order). I usually call and place my order ahead of time and I'll eat it in their back patio area. I would give this place a 5 star rating but they lose a star because every time I go there, not one of the workers/staff are smiling when they greet you. I've been wanting to try this place for quite some time. I hear nothing but good things about it. So today was the day we tried it. I really liked it. The only reason why I gave it a four star was because I thought it was a little too pricey for lunch. We are on a budget so we have to watch where we eat and how much we spend. But if you compare it to the cost, too how good it tastes, no question, the taste wins out! We both ordered sandwiches and could not finish them. My husband had the Clubber( club sandwich) and I had the steak sandwich. Delicious!!!! What I look for in a sandwich place is how they make the sandwich so that whatever meat you have in there stays in your sandwich as you butt into it. And they did not disappoint. I actually can't wait to go back there and get another one! The service is self-serve. You order your sandwich and you go pick it up. But they have great dining options whether you want to eat inside or outside. Out in the back they really went all out to make you comfortable wherever you sit and there are plenty of places to sit out there and enjoy the sun. I look forward to going back. read more

Customer service is horrible. Why does the staff get irritatated when you don't order from their stupid app? Everytime i order from Uber Eats the staff gets snarky because i didn't use the Blue Barn app. Their latest mishap is they no longer take group orders on the Uber Eats App and they cancelled my order even though I've placed multiple group orders in the past. Thanks to the horrible customer service from the Novato location, I will no longer be supporting ANY Blue Barns across the Bay Area. You are the absolute worst, Blue Barns Novato. read more

I was here for lunch and I got the Spicy Tuna Salad while my friend got the Winter Salad. They were made quickly and we fetched them from the building then we ate outside in back. The salads were ginormous. My friend loved hers and ate every last bit. I was disappointed in mine: the tuna wasn't at all spicy and there were just little slivers of mango and not many crispy soba noodles, all things that I was really looking forward to. This new gourmet sandwich/salad spot is a wonderful addition to downtown Novato's burgeoning culinary scene, And judging by the long lines they seem to have after only a few months since their opening, it's clearly a hit with the locals! Although I'm a huge fan of their salads (particularly their Tostada and their Fattoush), I keep coming back for their BLT. Mouthwatering smoked bacon, goat cheese, heirloom tomato, mixed greens & pesto aioli on sliced country levain. This hearty sandwich is the stuff food comas are made of. Now if you've never been to a Blue Barn before (they have locations in SF and Corte Madera), you might be initially alarmed by the prices. I ain't gonna lie - this place ain't cheap. For example, the Barn BLT will run you about $14 after tax. Other sandwiches like their Skirt Steak and their Kickin' Chicken are in the $15 - $16 range. So if you order a beverage and leave tip, your lunch bill will be close to 20 bucks. But man oh man, a terrific sandwich is sometimes worth the splurge! read more

I've only been to the Blue Barn in Corte Madera once and it was so packed and cramped. The service was great, so was the food. But I work in Novato 3 days a week and we already had limited options as it was and then we lost Perry's & my beloved Tags!! Me and my co-workers were so excited to hear that we were getting a Blue Barn in Novato and eagerly awaited its opening. I went there last Monday only to find it closed temporarily on Mondays. (The owner told me they will open on Mondays mid-February ) So, I went back on Thursday. The store-front is so beautiful, but upon walking inside, I was blown away by the beauty of the decor, the clean lines, & the openness of the dining room. I got there at 11:30, just in time, because there was only one party ahead of me but when I finished ordering I saw that the line was out the front door! I ordered 4 salads to go: 2 Fattoush w/steak & 2 Tostada. It was pricey, but my boss likes to treat us to fresh, locally sourced, healthy lunches and he says it's worth it. Lucky us! I waited at the beautiful bar for my order and noticed that they have not only beer and wine but gin, vodka, tequila, & rum ON TAP!! Anyway, we all enjoyed our salads so much that I was sent back again on Friday for the same salads. I look forward to trying their sandwiches in the near future. I just very much enjoyed the "chill", relaxed vibe at this location. The owner, manager, FOH & BOH staff were friendly and efficient....and relaxed, not stressed out! Overall Great Restaurant. I go to this place a couple times a year and it is not disappointing. There is ample seating all around and their outdoor seating in the back is beautiful. The inside is beautiful too. The food and drinks are great and my kids love their ice cream. The staff are always kind and the wait is not long. Really great for lunch. Limited menu but each selection is fabulous by itself. I had the BLT and it's the best. Grilled sourdough bread. Big slices. Guacamole, goat cheese, smoked bacon, redleaf lettuce, tomato slices, grilled with olive oil. Everything is from local sources including the smoked bacon. Such a satisfying flavor, crisp, perfect. I can only eat half the sandwich. And that barely. The sandwich is so thick I can hardly get my mouth on it. I really need to try something else. Everything looks good, I can't decide. We ordered a side of French fries. Wow, cooked evenly, hot and fresh. I had an ice cold draft beer. It was hot out today. My daughter had a grapefruit Kombucha which was really large. Take-out cardboard cartons are available with the napkins, water, glasses (jars) and cutlery on the sidebar. Huge patio with umbrellas, music at night. Novato is undergoing something of a deli sandwich revolution. Out are Perry's (for the time being), Tagliaferri's, and a couple of Subways. In their stead (so far) are Checkers and Blue Barn. On today, a cold Saturday, I was sauntering down Grant when I saw this new establishment and thought "Why The Heck Not?". Unable to convince myself otherwise, I went in. Certainly the place is modern. No handout menus with poor grammar. No corporate logo-polluted hard options on the wall. Instead we have a chalkboard, a move I always support (let's face it, one of life's biggest bummers is to order something off the menu only to find it not available). I chose the Kickin' Chicken, with a Marin Kombucha to wash it down. My one regret about this place is the cost - over $21 for this, with the coerced upfront tip at buy-in. That being said, the meal was scrumptious and filling - certainly I don't feel any need to have a followup meal anytime soon. Yum!!! So happy this is open in Novato now. Went on the second day and waited in a huge line, but it was worth it. Slightly different menu than Corte Madera but they have burgers here! (They sold out by 1pm on Fri and they looked delicious!) The other difference we noticed was the kid's chicken tenders here - while the same price as CM - were only 2 pieces of chicken, rather than 3. (Wasn't thrilled about that.) They also should have had two registers open at lunchtime rather than just one considering how busy they were. But it was day two so they'll figure it out. Otherwise we liked everything and love Blue Barn! We will be regulars. read more

Food is good, service is good BUT do not go here anywhere near 8 pm. Not even 7 pm as they will harass you every 10 minutes about how they are closing soon. Ordered about ten items for a company lunch. Everybody loves BB. I had the steak sandwich which was good. They chop the steak into little pieces which makes it easy to eat. Good smoky flavor. I really like the food they serve. I appreciate the quality ingredients and think the location is a welcome addition to Novato. Yes, the prices are on the high end for Novato which is to be expected given the quality of the ingredients. I am ok with that and I can appreciate it. That said, they seem to be shrinking the size of the sandwiches while keeping the prices the same. I don't need a massive glutenous sandwich that screams middle 'Merica but the above average prices need to be balanced with what I am being served. This is a salad and sandwich place after all. Ok, I've reviewed this spot before, but I'm compelled to add another now that I've branched out and tried a few other things on the menu. The tostada salad is so delicious, but in my opinion it is even tastier with the Ranch dressing rather than the chipotle/ agave. I've added the fried chicken as well as the salmon based on my mood; both were amazing and nicely portioned! I just enjoyed probably the most perfectly cooked/ flavorful salmon I've had in a very long time. Price of the salad may seem a bit high but the portion is HUGE and honestly the flavor and freshness quickly convince you it's worth every penny. The only suggestion I would give to the restaurant is to work a bit on the online ordering site- you're not able to change the salad dressing without paying for a $1 side of dressing and you can't put in notes on the order. Oh a P.S.- do yourself a favor and try their soft serve. It's made with buffalo milk and is hands down the creamiest, most flavorful soft serve I've ever had. Don't even both with a topping because it just hides the flavor of the soft serve which is the real star of the show. read more

Was walking around grant around 4 and noticed this spot and as it wasn't busy decided to give it a try. I got the tater tots just to see how they handle the basics. Man was I happy I didn't get anything else because the tater tots where the worst I have ever tried. I could only taste the oil they cooked them in, not to mention the oil was pooling out of the bag. I've heard good things about Blue Barn so I had to check it out. I had just ended a juice cleanse so I was happy to see all of the healthy choices! I ordered the Detox salad and my friend had the Summer salad. The Detox salad has kale, greens, carrots, cucumbers, Quinoa, apples and a really nice dressing. We both enjoyed our meals. The servings are so big I ate it for lunch and dinner. All of the containers/silverware etc are either compostable or recyclable. The outdoor area is beautiful and comfortable. I hear they have a nice cocktail selection so I look forward to coming back when I'm ready for that! read more
