I've also tried the Halvsie was pretty good. I then tried the Pastrami Bomb and that was alright. I did it with no jalapeños because I don't do spicy. Maybe it would've been better with it. Though I am unsure if I could order what's on their website at the store because the inside menu was missing some sandwiches compared to the online menu. Love LJ's! It's such a quaint local deli that has super friendly staff, a decent menu selection, and good food! Also, you can order online and save tons of time! It's a little tough to find if you don't know exactly where it is. It's in an office park off Redwood Hwy, so I typically park across the street from Westamerica Back. Every time I walk in, I am greeted with a smile. Many times they remember me from a prior order and have a good guess about what I ordered or am about to order. They have a pretty great selection for breakfast, too. There just isn't a lot in the area in terms of quick, cheap (and tasty) breakfast, but you can get a pretty amazing breakfast sandwich or croissant at LJ's. It's a pretty big sandwich, so come hungry. read more

I work walking distance away (across the street) from LJ's Deli, so I really want to love LJ's! But for me, the sandwiches are too small for the price. Good, but too small. For example, Michael's Sourdough in Novato has similarly priced sandwiches (they're both around $9-10), but they're big enough that I eat half for lunch one day and save the 2nd half for the next day's lunch. It's a few miles' drive, but I actually go out of my way to go there instead of walking across the street to LJ's Deli when I want a sandwich for lunch. That's a bummer, right? I mean it when I say I wish LJ's did it differently! (So I'm trying to give thoughtful feedback.) My boss agrees, and he's buying us lunch today--at the "somewhere else." I made my first visit to L.J.'s Deli San Rafael to cash in a free sandwich card (handed out to businesses in the neighborhood). I ordered the Subhut which the owner, Kaity (very pleasant), said they had been serving for 50 years(!). Once I tasted it, I understood why - layers of flavor and texture that you can almost experience just by looking at it. Too bad I missed out for 46 years (my whole life in Marin), but I hope to enjoy it for the next half century. LJ's is secluded within an office park (like other hidden gems in Marin), but there are signs to direct customers. I will definitely be back to try more offerings from their extensive sandwich menu with economical prices. It will be hard not to order the Subhut again...will bring my husband (he's actually the one who works nearby) and order two sandwiches to share on a lunch break date. read more
